Hello food poisoning! The delicious salad, apps, and martini here were so not worth the project rule vomiting the ensued about 6 hours later. Did I like the atmosphere, service, and taste of the good? Sure I did. However, When i called to tell them the next day that I contracted some sort of nasty bug from their food they couldn't have cared less and acted like they didn't believe me. I wasn't calling for any reason other than i wanted them to figure out what got me sick so others didn't have to suffer like i did. Â Well, needless to say I won't be returning.
Review Source:Cuvee always delivers. Great food (stuffed portobello burger was redunkulous, the lobster rolls was very fresh and the Salted Caramel Creme Puff with nutella was nirvana) and had a nice glass of Sangiovese. Excellent and extensive wine and champagne list as well as cocktails and beers. When they offer Au Fin du Monde by Unibroue, this place had me at "Quebecois beer". When your house wine is Cono Sur, you know that this place elevates their wine menu.
It's a great place to go with a group. It is a little loud in there but that's the point. It's a big loungey open space where you can bring your crew. We saw two birthday parties, and we sang happy birthday to the lady at the next table over.
Overall, just an fun, jovial, upbeat vibe.
Jean-Paul our server was really good. Cuvee kept my water glass full and right there I think is the cherry on top of the service for me.
I'm not really one to bar hop in West Hartford, but it was my birthday, so my best friend and I figured we'd take a walk on the wild side. Luckily we dressed up for dinner before hand, as plainly posted on the door was a dress code warning. As off putting as that was, we were drawn in by the lush seating every where, only to be seated at an uninviting table in the bar area. My friend asked if we could move to a cozier set of chairs and without hesitation, the hostess moved us. As far as the crowd, maybe we were a bit early (10pm) but the vibe was lonely mixed with a will to fit in. Lots of wannabe socialites and West Hartford business people looking for a good time. We both ordered an obscenely over priced drink, and was tossed the bill once our waiter realized we were only staying for one drink. I doubt we'll be back as our visit failed to meet our high expectations. We've both been to better places with better drinks and fewer snobs.
Review Source:The only time I will go to Cuvee is during their half off everything happy hour, which is pretty awesome.  I can't think of a place that offers a better deal- half off food, drinks, bottles of wine, literally everything. The waitstaff are friendly and the seating is comfortable.  Some of the food is pretty good, some of it straight up sucks (thats what I get for ordering from someone who is not a sushi chef) but none of it is worth paying full price for. I've made the mistake of going on a Friday and Saturday night and its quite a different animal.  Throw in a dj playing loud, douchey techno music and, as another reviewer so brilliantly called them, the Real Housewives of WeHa.  There is no dance floor, so it's a high possibility that the skankish dancing will occur within your personal space.  Without that happy hour discount, everything is crazy overpriced.  Cuvée wants to be exclusive and fancy pants, but its not.
Review Source:Great place on Thursday-Saturday nights. I come here most often for their Happy Hour specials which is 50% off everything (you won't find that anywhere else in this area) Staff and service is generally decent (they always knew when I was thirsty)
Food is hit or miss, I would personally recommend the 3-cheese arugula flatbread or portabella stack.
Wine and drink selection are impeccable, I'm in my happy place here :)
Absolutely wonderful. Â Amazingly relevant. Â Went to Cuvee with a friend for the first time tonight with 6:30pm reservations, and it was a really good experience. Â When you first walk in we were immediately greeted by the host who looked up our reservation and seated us quickly. Â (Just an aside...when you make a reservation at Cuvee, if you leave your mobile phone number, they send you a text before - as a reminder AND after - as a Thank You.) Â
Inside, the decor is very relevant, fresh, and original. Â I'm not a fan drapery but here the few that they have serve a functional (as well as aesthetic) purpose...to help dampen the sound, and help define the space, so here they work. Â Love the blacks and reds. Â Love the high open ceiling. Â Love the youthful energy of the place. Â It's very upscale casual, and by that I am referring to the dining space. Â There are couch benches and comfy chairs with dining height tables, but there are also little seating areas where small groups can hang out and eat and drink. Â It was really cool.
But besides all of that other good stuff, the FOOD IS WONDERFUL.  I kid you not...I'm talking really inventive and creative offerings that  are very modestly priced.  But BONUS!!!! We were there during Happy Hour when EVERYTHING is 50% off.  I asked our server about the special because it struck me as such a strong ploy, but his answer made sense.  Cuvee is a very busy night spot so they they are trying to build the earlier service up a bit.  WORKS FOR ME!  50% off?  Everything??  That's a no-brainer.
Back to the food. Â So my friend and I started by sharing the Surf and Turf Roll and the Tuna Tartare. Â Both were really tasty, especially the Tuna Tartare which was bright and flavorful. Â Just delicious.
Next we had the Margherita Fatbread which was really tasty (I loved the tangy tomato base) but the Lobster Mac and Cheese was just absolutely lucious, creamy and loaded with lobster. Â You know sometimes Lobster mac and cheese can be dry and a bit fishy...this was none of that. Â What a wonderful dish.
Then we stopped sharing and had  our own dinners.  I had the Cuvee burger.  Juicy, flavorful and perfectly cooked as I requested.  My friend had the cheese platter (served on a really cool piece of slate) which included a house made jam.  I did try the jam and some cheese...really tasty, nice selection.  The only thing I might suggest is...the cheese platter is served with some Nan bread.  It was very soft and very fresh, but it was just kind of cut into wedges and served on a plate.  Perhaps baking or quickly frying the Nan so it's crispy and then season with something interesting might be more in keeping with the unique nature of this very unique place.  But that's just me.
For dessert I had the Chocolate Trio Parfait, topped with fresh seasonal berries. Â It was really a nice balance between the chocoates and the sweetness, without one overpowering the other.
I would like to point out that the menu  (as of the writing of this review) is not the same as the one on the website.  We had the pleasure of selecting offerings from Cuvee's new Chef de Cuisine.  This guy is young, fresh, relevant and very talented.  The food was great, and even if you are NOT a drinker like me,  you have to put Cuvee on your must-visit list of local restaurants.
In the interest of fair and balanced reporting, however, my friend said his drinks were really tasty!
We will definitely be back.
Amazing all around place to get together with friends for a night out! Great Happy Hour - the entire menu is half off! Amazing Sushi Rolls, great service, fun music and classy people! So happy to have found a place who's owner actually cares about people's experiences! The staff has been so friendly each time I've been there, the drinks are super tasty and I've never had a problem getting a table. If you are looking for a classy place for a tasty drink without all the b.s. to deal with in Hartford, Cuvee is the place to be.
Review Source:Went here for an evening out with a group of 6 on a Saturday night. We had table reservations in the bar for 8 PM and were seated promptly when we walked in. This was my first time here, but my wife had been once prior. Seating is VERY comfortable, we had a cushioned bench along the wall with separate pillows in addition and then opposite that were 3 club chairs. I will say that drinks were somewhat pricey but not outrageous, I had a particular liquor on the rocks and it was a generous 4 oz pour (or maybe even a little more) or so, so I felt like I got my money's worth. Some of the party got food (two sushi rolls - $9.50 each, two lobster rolls - $19.50 each). I will say that the food is WAY overpriced and I don't think I would ever eat here outside of happy hour (50% off).
If I recall correctly a DJ was setup and starting to play music by 10ish at which point the venue starts to get louder and louder to where we were actually yelling quite loudly by about midnight on. I didn't mind, but just for awareness for those of you who might be bothered by not being able to have an intimate conversation so easily. The one thing I liked was that i never felt like it got so crowded that I couldn't easily get up an go to the bathroom without it taking 15 minutes to push my way to go 15 feet.
Service was excellent, our waitress was very aware of where we were in drinking our beverages and did a good job of stopping by just before you finished the last sip. I felt like we were well taken care of and that she did a good job. Also met the owner who was very nice and seems to know what he's doing, he was affable, cared that we were enjoying ourselves and at the end of the night was gracious and hoped we would come back. They handled closing well too, lights up at about 1:40 AM I think, lights fully on at 1:50 AM, and then starting to ask folks to wrap it up and head out (politely) at 2 AM. The final "if you don't work here, we have to ask you to please leave" was again, said politely and without making people feel like they just wanted to be rid of you. I've been to bars where the lights come on at 1:30 and by 1:45 they're starting to yell "GET THE F OUT!!"
Overall, a very enjoyable evening out and I would definitely go back and recommend the place to others with the caveat "don't plan on eating there".
To our surprise, the website was wrong, Website Happy Hours (EVERYTHING is 50% off) are advertised as Tuesday to Friday from 5-7. Instead, we were surprised to find out that Happy Hour also included Saturdays from 5-7. So we took full advantage of that puppy and walked out with $90 worth of food and drink for half-price.
I had never been to Cuvee before. It's decor is mostly reds and blacks. The bar area features an open ceiling industrial look. The black cocktail dresses worn by the waitresses definitey gave the place a classy look. We were there too early to run into the fashonista issues mentioned by so many Yelpers, jeans and sneaks worked well for us.
Cuvee has a very impressive cocktail list - we started with 2 martinis - a Biscotti Martini (Stoli Vanilla vodka, amaretto, Frangelico) listed at $9.95 and a Glacial Pear martini (Grey Goose Pear vodka, St. Germain Elderflower liqueur, white cranberry, sparkling wine) listed at $10.95. They were both refreshing and very delicious, in my opinion the Biscotti narrowly outperformed the Pear. I also added a nice Sam Adamas Pilsner listed at $5.50.
We shared five plates - a Caprese Salad, Tuna Tartar, a Crab Cake, a West Hartford Roll, and a Maine Lobster Roll. Every plate was a winner - from the simple elegance of sliced fresh tomatoes in the Caprese to the sweet tuna mini cubes in the Tartar, to the fabulous crunch and sweet crabmeat in the Crab Cake, and to to the tender claw meat in the lobster roll.
And when our check arrived, all this was discounted down from $90 to a jaw-dropping $45. Â
In other words, run, don't walk to Cuvee for an amazing Happy Hour with delicious food in a gorgeus setting
Came here for a welcome back party for a co-worker and myself which was hosted by some other co-workers. We made a reservation for a Friday night, and reserved high top tables for 10 people. We ended up with only 8 chairs, and had to wait for two more chairs, and people had to stand :( our waiter was a bit slow, he said he had some tables that were leaving and that he would give us his full attention, which we never really got, and for a party of 10, that was a tad disappointing. The drinks never fail to disappoint, and the food, also very awesome. The wait for the food was longer than usual, everyone was staggering their food order in an attempt to not overwhelm our waiter but in the end we ended up waiting. We felt no rush to get out, and the atmosphere was good as usual. Everyone had a great time, and would definitely come back, just not with a large group.
Review Source:Someone said in a recent review that this business is "an example of controlled arrogance."
I disagree.
This place is an example of UNCONTROLLED arrogance. Â What else can be responsible for the idea that other people's winter coats are there for hiding without consulting the owners and without caring if there are any valuables inside of them that the owner might want to keep at his seat????
A coworker of mine recently and her friend recently tried to stop in for an after dinner drink at 7:00 before a night out in Hartford. Â She asked for a table but the owner refused to seat them because they were all reserved for a 8:30 PM party. Â
Oh really? Â What about that 90 minutes of time in between? Â Why couldn't they have a table in the meantime and leave 10-15 minutes before the reserved time? Â They left without spending a penny.
I can't help but wonder if they are excluding people simply because they are not dressed glamorously. Â You should not have to be dressed up to the nines to go to a bar. Â Maybe for a wedding dinner or an elegant fine-dining restaurant, but not for a bar.
When I told my cousin who lives down the street on Raymond Road in West Hartford about this, she said this: Â "Don't West Hartford and Farmington Republicans already have enough places where they can gather and engage in class snobbery?"
I couldn't have said it better myself.
I don't think we could have been more out of place at a spot like Cuvee... but when you're with your girl, no place on earth is too daunting, even West Hartford's most unapologetically bourgeois, ultra-elite-seeking wine bar. You should dress to the 9's when coming here, not dressed to the 6.5's like we were...
Still, we had a drink here, and given the circumstances, it's a heck of a wine place. Try the "flight of reds," which features three nice selections from their red menu. They give you about three ounces of each wine, so I'd actually call that a decent value at $11. If you don't like their pre-determined selections, you can actually create your own flight of three wines for $12.
We didn't have the food, so I can't comment on that. But I do know that they have a pretty awesome happy hour 4-7PM, in which EVERYTHING on the menu, food and drink, is half price. Now that's what I call a happy hour.
The confines, while decorated in the manner one would imagine Matthew McConaughey's apartment to be, are indeed comfy. Cushy chairs and booths to park your caboose while you stare at the other cabooses walking by... Not me though, I was facing the wall, and my girlfriend, of course!
It's an exercise in plainly apparent, yet comfortably controlled arrogance.
Girls, I did something really brave...lol...
I went to Cuvee without any makeup and boy, it was the wrong place to do that! Â Everyone there was dressed to the nines. Â The women were in their tight dresses and four inch heels. Â The men were dapper in their suits. Â One guy even wore a khaki-colored suit with a pink tie; though it looked sharp, it looked wrong for early October in CT. Â Even the wait staff was very attractive; I questioned if they were recruited from a modeling agency. Â I saw a lot of older men with younger women couples; which was disturbing.
I went here last night on an after dinner whim with my boyfriend. Â With all the stress going on in our lives lately, we needed to go out for wine! Â My man had a flight of reds while I enjoyed a glass of Shiraz, Excelsior, 2007, South Africa. Â The wine was expensive and therefore we did not have any of the food. Â I am looking forward to going there at happy hour during the week when everything, I think, is 50% off.
In closing, I feel more welcome at Shish.
One of the most classy bars in the surrounding area. New York 5th Ave. decor.
Friday nights from 5-7 pm all drinks and food are half price. Gorgeous bar with couches and tables for relaxation.
The macaroni and cheese is superb and lobster rolls are succulent.
The food is "small plate"
Very busy during cocktail hour and may have to stand to enjoy drinks and Bill of Fare but who cares.
Go for it!
I've been to cuvée 3 times for happy hour and the service has been very poor every time. It has consistently taken an hour or more for the food to come out. Also, the portions that you get at happy hour are barely worth it. Although the atmosphere is cool, the bad service has turned me off from this place.
Review Source:Easily my FAVORITE restaurant in all West Hartford, maybe the state?!
I admit I only go during Happy Hour and it gets back up some nights, but it allows me to go to my favorite place without giving up my grocery money for the week ;)
The Cuvee roll (yes I was shocked they had sushi too) is amazing, the West Hartford Roll is great as well. I have found two new favorite wines from my trips to Cuvee and they also give suggestions if you are stuck (and taste before you order a glass/bottle). Servers and Bar staff are friendly as well. Get there early for Happy Hour or you might not get seated!
Gets worse everytime I go...will not be returning. Â everytime I go there, it gets more bougey. Â last time i went at 7:15 pm, the host said he couldnt possible seat us as it was Saturday night (with a dramatic eye roll). Â half of the tables were reserved for a 9pm reservation. Â I assured him we would be out before then, so he seated us.
Our waiter was super nice (they always are), but they were out of most of the things we ordered.
the sushi is AWFUL...and I got veggie....the fish might kill someone.
my salad was way overdressed.
my friends lobster mac n cheese was microwaved, and he couldnt finish it.
the drinks are creative and delicious.
I do like the decor, the couches and drapes are great.
overall, I will not go back due to the attitude...
Blue Back is not the new Manhattan..get over yourselves
The place is overall wonderful. The ambience is warm, the aesthetics is classy meets trendy. The staff are friendly. The food and drinks are tasty. I normally have the lobster Mac and cheese, pulled pork Mac and cheese or sushi. I always feel comfortable and happy going there. At nights they play live music with DJs on turntables and one to 3 piece bands.
Good times!
Decent place to hang out and nod your head to the techno version of every song on mainstream radio. The space is tiny and generally nothing to write home about. There is a small dance floor but you feel awkward actually busting a move in the little area in front of the uninspired DJ and the smarmy staff who just stand around trying very hard to look like the aloof owners of a trendy nightclub. There are way more interesting places to go and things to do in the Hartford area. That said, I may just be past the nightclub/lounge phase of my life though...actually yes, I'm quite certain that I am.
Review Source:I've put this off because one star reviews often tend to be unfairly bitter and negative 90% of the time. In this instance, one star may actually be too generous.
I've had the misfortune of visiting Cuvee twice and there absolutely won't be third.
Visit #1.
Went with 3 girlfriends on a Friday night shortly after they opened. We did not have a reservation. It was a spur of the moment thing and none of us had ever been to Cuvee. We were waiting a few minutes for a table before the host seated us. No sooner had our host walked away, then he was back and asked us to get up. He said he seated the wrong party. We were told they were closing for private party in about an hour anyway and then directed to sit in the bar. No apology was given. We were just hustled away from our table. We left. I vowed never to return.
Visit #2
About a year later (Wait, this place is still open?!) another friend suggested we meet for an early dinner right after work. I was honestly hesitant but figured if the place was still in operation, then they had to be getting something right  at least part of the time. WHOOPS!
We voluntarily seated ourselves in the bar. Initially everything was fine. The decor was tacky, and the bar stools wobbly, but service was attentive... until some older, Real Housewives of WEHA types with mucho bling showed up. I guess I wasn't wearing enough CZ? Or maybe it was the lack of botox? My friend and I were treated like lepers as soon as the median age in the bar shoot past 40.
My dinner arrived first and we were assured by the waiter that my friend's sushi would arrive shortly. It didn't. After 10 minutes we asked the waiter to check on it. His response was "If the order is in, it's in." Â True story, folks.
I ate my dinner. No sign of my friend's sushi. We then spoke with the manager. He was mildly apologetic and said the kitchen was a little behind. He sad he'd check on the food. He returned carrying sushi! Hooray! But then he served it to another table that arrived after us.
As it neared 7pm we decided to leave. Â My unlucky dining partner had a meeting to get to at the WEHA library. She left without ever seeing, never mind eating, her dinner. Yup, 2 hours in that place and no sign of the order that our dear waiter had insisted was "in."
Have you ever heard of a restaurant flat out refusing to serve a patron for no reason? Have you been envious of your friends who have been so lucky as to waste two hours in a restaurant only to leave unserved? Do you like to be surprised by restaurants who prefer that you go hungry? Â Well, be envious no more, just head to Cuvee.
Went to Cuvee for drinks before picking up a friend and ended up going back as soon as we picked her up!
The host and servers were extra nice. Helped us find seats even though the place was packed. The drinks are awesome and priced well. The waitress and bartender were great about explaining to us and helping us choose our drinks. The food was good-Steak and Gorgonzola appetizer, Lobster roll, ans Cuvee chopped salad all Yummmm.
We'll definitely be coming back here!
Went to Cuvee for the first time the week before Christmas for a girls night out. While the place was jam packed we had made reservations and had a cozy spot in the back away from the craziness.
I server was super helpful- she let us know that we had 30 minutes left to take advantage of their happy hour deal which included 1/2 price bottles of wine and 1/2 off their entire menu. We were able to call our friends that hadn't made it yet and ask them what they wanted. Saved us a whole lotta money. If I were to go back I would most likely only do so to partake in their happy hour deal. The food was good- we all shared a bunch of appetizers (one being the bbq pork mac n cheese!) very memorable!
In short: a casting call for the new season of Jersey Shore. More tools and lip gloss here than Bob Villa after a make out session with Katie Perry. But hey if 3x3 dance floors, bubble gum DJs, & silky Caribbean curtains in 15 degree New England temps are your thing Cuvée fails to disappoint. You too can feel like royalty in the heart of CT's own Truman Show!
Review Source:The short:
Overpriced. Underwhelming. Poor service. Dirty glasses. Ridiculously small "small" plates. Terrible crowd. The other 2 star reviews nailed the details.
The long:
I had such high hopes for this place and my expectations were seriously unmet. The bartender was so busy trying to make the drinks as fast as possible that she apparently had no time to smile. Or make eye contact with her customers. Or do anything else that would have made the place feel hospitable. She used dirty, sticky glasses and was completely sloppy, sloshing the liquids over the rims of our glasses, creating a mess in front of us at the bar. And didn't clean it. We sat through three rounds of this so shame on us bc we should have left then.
But instead, we got a table and grabbed some apps. Shame on us again. The plates were really small with pretty big prices, which would be fine if the food was great, but it was unexciting. I echo the sentiment of the reviewer who thought better food could be achieved by walking across the street to Whole Foods.
Maybe it was bc we were just at Rizzutos and that food was amazingly awesome. Or maybe it was bc the food was really just an after thought to Cuvee's bar business. Whatever it was, there was nothing enticing enough to bring me back.
I've been to Cuvee several times for drinks but never for food so I've never really been compelled to write a review of the place. Â A few weeks ago, a few of us were getting together in West Hartford and had originally decided on Uncorked for dinner, after a glance at the menu and taking into consideration the picky eaters in our party, we figured that we'd give Cuvee a shot as the a la carte menu had a bigger variety of options. Â
Now, I'm well aware that Cuvee is *the* watering hole for the uber-douche of West Hartford who feel the need to compensate for god only knows what by "popping bottles" Â but if you're going to have an extensive and impressive wine list, DON'T have martini's that are one gummi bear away from being too tacky for this place. Â
As far as the food goes, that's where this place HAD the potential and chose think that they could ride it out on drinks alone. Â When I order charcuterie & cheese plates, I'd like to not feel that I could have walked across the street to Whole Foods and received not only better quality cheese but a better explanation of each cheese and as far as the meats, I'm pretty sure they were Deitz & Watson. Â No thanks. Â
While imbibing, we felt that we wanted more than just those boards of food and opted to order additional small plates. Â A sushi roll which was decent, a small bowl of lobster mac and cheese which looked decadent, a very skimpy lobster roll and a Kobe beef burger. Â The problem here was the kobe burger.was not medium rare but so rare that I felt the cow was still enjoying his fat ass life on a grazing pasture. Â When brought to the attention of the waitress, she stated, "well, kobe doesn't cook the same as regular beef". Â Umm, thanks for the culinary tip, but it still shouldn't be this cold. Â A few minutes later, out comes the same burger, which appeared to have taken a 1 minute spin in the microwave. Â At this point we had sent it back and just decided that we didn't want a substitute. Â Unfortunately so, because if they just got the burger right, we would have stayed. Â
On a final note, it was okay, but I do know of plenty other upscale places to imbibe that don't come with a side of Jersey Shore. Â I also think that the bartenders need to learn how to float champagne drinks because the sparkling lemoncello drink that was ordered had the champagne mixed in as opposed to foating on top to preserve the bubbles. Disappointing.
While I quite dislike Cuvee, it serves an important function in West Hartford center. Â It is the ideal watering hole for those that would like to sit around in a sub-par environment, enjoying sub-par food and overpaying for the experience in order to feel that they are inhabiting an "exclusive" venue. Â Props to Cuvee for serving this neglected market, and for making a profit as they do so! Â
The drinks are good, but you can get a good martini most anywhere in the center. Â The lounge area is nice in theory, but becomes crass and overcrowded later in the evening. Â (If I wanted to be smushed in with a bunch of sweaty, drunk people, I would go back to college.) Â I haven't been for happy hour, so I can't speak to that.. Â
Bottom line-- if your feelings are hurt because the bartender at Oyster Bar didn't fawn over you after you ordered the house pinot grigio, do some self affirmations and head over to Cuvee.
We went here last night for a friends birthday. The service was extremely attentive and very helpful in choosing delicious martinis. However, as other reviews comment, the music is god awful. They had like a techno/dance beat and were pairing it with random songs like Jack and Diane and Journey, along with 90's hip hop and more recent selections. It was all over the board! And with the base beat behind it, it was pretty strange. It's like they were trying to make it danceable, but it's not a dance type of scene.
Otherwise, it's a great cozy plaze to dress nicely and meet up with friends. I just wish they would realize their music selection doesn't fit with the atmosphere of the place.
Snobs only need apply. Â Unless you are dressed to the nines, wear diamonds, and talk with an uppity accent, there is no need to go. Â Our service was slow, prices overrated, and ambiance tailored to a clientele I am not a part of.
So, two stars? Â Yes, two stars because "Meh. Â I'VE experienced better" and more welcoming places!
This was our second time there. First time we went on a Friday about 2 weeks ago and since it was only two of us at that time we didn't have reservations but were seated right away in 2 comfy chairs for a nice evening.
This time was a Saturday (yesterday) and we called for a reservation for a party of 4. When we got there, there wasn't a table available yet, and we were hoping for couches as opposed to a bar table. The manager (or could have been the owner possibly?) apologized to us, he gave us a bar table so that we could sit, gave us complimentary sparkling wine, and then within minutes had a set of couches ready for us. We were wowed with his service and attention he gave us in which seemed a busy night.
Food was really good, nice size portions and reasonably priced - our party of 4 had the tuna tartar, eel-ectric rolls, and crab cakes. For desert we had the sexy-donuts (angel food cake with drizzled champagne icing) and chocolate mousse. Generous sized drinks also at reasonable prices. I had an espresso martini that was tasty and went well with the chocolate mousse.
A great experience, and will definitely be back more times. We lucked out for parking and got a street spot, but there is a parking garage right there as well as a Whole Foods across the street (not sure if you could sneak parking there, but we did our first time!).
Came here for some after-dinner drinks and found it to be quite relaxing and comfortable. Â The loungey-feel is great and it wasn't loud so we were able to have good conversation without yelling over music or the other patrons.
We had some of the sparkling wine and champagne drinks and can't really complain. Â I also tried the cheesecake and it was a good size, not too much but definitely could be shared if you only wanted a couple bites.
Went to Cuvee last night for some after-dinner drinks. For a Thursday night, the bar area was definitely crowded, but the rest of the place was fairly empty. There was a guy playing acoustic guitar, pretty much right inside the entrance. He was decent, but did not fit the scene or mood of the place. Cuvee is decidedly trying to be a pretty hip and cool establishment, and this guy was singing a cover of Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline." Now, I love Neil Diamond (guilty pleasure) but he doesn't belong inside Cuvee.
Drinks were good, but took awhile to get. I will say that, though the bartenders were busy, they didn't ignore us, and said (more than once) that they would be with us as soon as possible. I appreciate that. The boyfriend had a Gran Marnier and I had B& B, both of which were a fairly hefty pour in an equally hefty snifter. Â For the second round, he switched to B & B and I got a special eggnog martini. I'm not much for sweet, girly martinis, but this one was delicious! Not too sweet, and it had a little sprinkle of nutmeg on top.
Overall, we had a nice experience, but it was mostly because of the company. Go for the ambiance, and just hope that our guitar friend isn't there...
I am generally happy with Cuvee. Â I have stopped in a small handful of times. Â There is a generous wine selection and the food comes in smaller portions. Â Sushi is ok, I have tried various items on the menu and have been between happy and very happy with them. Â A note on the previously mentioned crabcake burger.. Â It is a "black bean crabcake burger" which my friend, who ordered it, took to mean a crabcake burger with some sort of black bean topping. Â Instead, the black beans and crab meat were mixed together, creating the comment from Michelle about it being like an actual burger. Â My friend did not like it, but I actually enjoyed it. Â
I like lounge feel, as it is not common place anymore. Â It is nice to have the option to sit on a comfy chair rather than at a high back chair. They will offer discounts to people who work in Blue Back Square, something to keep in mind!
Wine bar. I'm there!
I peeked at the wine list on-line and they covered all of the bases.
Albarino, Torrontes, Neros, Vinho Verde, Primitivos, Malbecs, Tempranilllos, Sparkling from all over, etc.
The food was wasn't necessarily Tapas... but more like an a la carte menu.
I had the crab burger... I loved that it was served on an English muffin but the crab wasn't like a crab cake, but rather crab pretending to be beef, right down to the color and seasoning. It was tasty though.
The potatoes with blue cheese were a big hit. The crostini was delicious bite size pieces of dressed up bread. The chicken flatbread was disappointing because it was an unseasoned chicken breast wrapped in unseasoned flatbread and at one point I did relate this to a hot pocket. The electric eel roll was good, we chose that because it was all cooked and didn't want to chance sushi in a non sushi environment.
The sexy donuts were in actuality strawberry shortcakes.
I hate the ultra lounge interior and this place def attracts your West Hartford posers. I honestly thought the lounge scene was over.
