If you could choose any night to show up to this bar it should definitely be a Thursday. Open Mic night draws an array of artists and musicians of all types that love to rock out and have awesome jam sessions. Had a great time last night listening to "Saxy Girl" Barbara on the Sax, and Greg on the Drums!. And then the 13 Stones played who rocked out! Nathan on the Bass, Jeremy on lead guitar/vocals, and Chris on the drums. Great bands, Great drinks, Great atmosphere.
Don't get me wrong, this place is pretty sketchy, dogs runnin around, drunk people everywhere, throw-up in the bathroom, all around great experience!
I will definitely be back.
umm 2 dogs hanging out, a crackhead at the end of the bar and a bunch of construction workers. pretty cool place i think.Lack of "book learnin" was correct. Possibly every patron has dial up internet.Bathroom is a one person with no lock on it next to pool table. So it is very possible one of the said construction workers, crackheads, or dogs could come in at any time when you are doing your business. The mexican joint next door is good and will deliver into the bar.Which is nice.
Review Source:Over the years, in all my travels throughout the nation, I have enjoyed hitting different bars and really love exploring all the variety this great drinking nation has to offer. Â From turning down the advances of a one-toothed wonder in Jacksonville, FL to dangerous edgy bars in Arkansas, to the hottest clubs in Manhattan, Miami, and Vegas, I feel like I have seen it all.
Well, I was here last Thursday night and this place surprised me. Â Once I stepped inside, I felt like I had been transported to a different state. Â Suddenly, I was no longer in Monterey, let alone California...I felt like I was in a nice friendly backwoods local bar in Minnesota. Â Other than Tahoe, I have never found another sports bar in California that had the feel that this one did.
Granted, it wasn't the beautiful people (no poseurs) and I suddenly realized I was totally overdressed, but hey, nobody cared. Â Just took off my jacket, rolled up my sleeves and started shooting pool. Â Great local crowd and a nice coin-op pool table right in the center which only costs 50 cents per game. Â Wow, last place I saw that was 50 cents was Gino & Carlo in SF and even they increased from that a couple years ago.
The pool players I met that night were really friendly and really into the game. Â I had a great time shooting pool although my game was totally off as I was three sheets to the wind already when I arrived. Â This was some of the worst pool I have played in a long time, but still had a lot of fun. Â Oh well, next time I will go there before I drink so much. Â And yes, Bob, next time I will be back on the table to take you down a notch. Â
Drinks were reasonable and nicely made...definitely not watered down by any means. Â The bartender was totally cool and had the greatest personality. Â You can always tell when someone loves people and their work. Â Her name was Jamie and she laughed when I told her about my pets Julie and Jamie at home. Â Had the greatest conversation with a big guy that had the cutest little dog...made me realize that no matter what, we should all count our blessings.
This place is very laid back and mellow. Â No scene, but really comfortable...a great wind-down bar if I ever saw one. Â Great tunes on the jukebox playing too. Â This place is real. Â If I lived in the area, I'd be here a lot.
I'm not suprised I am the first to review Cuz's sportsbar, as i'm 90% certain I am the 1st person to enter Cuz's with high speed internet access.
Highlights: Â Darts League, Cheap beer, Strong Pours, Juke Box, Proximity to Jose's Mexican
Lowlights: Lack of "City Folk", Short on people with "book learnin'"
