Dairy Queen Braizer

I would not say this is the best DQ in the country but I have never experienced the kind of attitude described by the reviewer before me. Their dairy products have always been tasty and fresh. Its not Chicago's Oberweiss...but they can still make a darn good blizzard.

How hard can someone really screw up a Dairy Queen experience? I mean... it's ice cream, right? Not at the Batesville Dairy Queen. We're talking about a scene so surreal that it's right out of a Coen Brothers movie script.

Let me just say right now that as a business owner, I cannot see how this place even stays in business.

We decided to pull through the drive thru this evening... it wasn't really busy, in fact there were no cars in the lot and no wait at the drive thru. Maybe that should have been a tipoff.

So the guy curtly says, "Just hold on" before I had even opened my mouth to speak. Ok, no prob... "Sure thing, take your time."

Then he comes back and says, "Okay... go ahead with your order." Keep in mind, not cursory "hi, welcome" whatever... fast food 101. Not that I really care, but this was a tone setter for things to come.

"I'd like a small caramel Moolatte", I responded while my wife was trying to decide what she wanted.

As she was speaking to me, the guy retorted something snide... I couldn't exactly tell what he'd said because I was focusing on what my wife was saying to me. So I stopped her and said, "Excuse me? I'm sorry what did you say?"

{pause}  "NEVERMIND"

"No, what did you say?"

"What flavor of moolatte was that?"

"Caramel... but what did you say before?"

{pause}

I said to my wife, "you know, I don't think I want to spend my money with this place... he's got some kind of attitude problem."

She says, "Yeah I agree... there's a problem here."

So I say, "You know, nevermind, I don't think I want to spend my money here. You've clearly got some sort of problem and should probably think about a little attitude adjustment. We'll go somewhere else, thanks."

He was yelling something out of the speaker... literally yelling as I pulled away around the building.

So as I pull past the door... some guy busts out the door... I mean... slams the door to the place open and runs out into the lot and says "I'm training someone on the register he's new!!! Go take your money somewhere else we don't want your business!!"

So I say, "What's the name of the general manager of this place?"

"He says... I AM THE OWNER!" Apparently they guy's name is David Hermesch and it really was the owner - not some hourly worker playing bigshot. Well... strike that.

"Oh... well... I'll be sure to let everyone know about you and your business here."

"GOOD! WE DON'T WANT YOU OR ANYONE YOU KNOW TO COME HERE!!!"

So.. as a man of integrity and of my word, I am simply letting people know that the owner of the Dairy Queen in Batesville, Indiana, David Hermesch, doesn't want your business.
