What a crazy cool little place. When I say little I mean LITTLE, as in I think my master bedroom is bigger and I can assure you I don't live at Oprah's house. There are just 2 tables and a handful of bar stools. The decor and the cocktails - both classic and perfect. I felt like I had time traveled back to France in 40's (minus the Nazi invasion). The French 77s and the Manhattans were perfection. This place has a real eye for detail. Sadly, they just remodeled so no license for food yet but we can't wait to come back for some cheese and bread along with the awesome cocktails!
Review Source:I'll have to be in the minority to say I wasn't impressed.
Look there's cute charming bars out there for sure...The Upstairs, Tavern Law and numerous other speakeasies. I like the theme and feel of this place but its so small, it smelled like sweat.
Also, they made a good French 77 but they have a limited bar. This is probably due to its size but they didn't have ginger beer or ginger ale. He said he does martinis, beer and wine on tap and I forget what else.
I really liked the concept but I think this place was just a bit too small for me.
I tend to like places that cater towards people wanting to spend time with each other and Daphne's is perfect for this. Â I love that it's right next to the theater and that it has limited seating. Â Great atmosphere and the best host/bartender in my experience. Â I didn't order any cocktails but their beer and wine list is ever changing...or at least it was the last time I was there. Â I'll probably be going there tonight and update this review.
Review Source:Ever been to a small party with a bunch of people you don't know? That's what Daphne's is like, only without all the awkward small talk. It's a throwback, a bar filled with the sound of conversation between humans, not SportsCenter. Frank Sinatra will be playing in the background, occasionally accompanied by the bartender. This is a one-of-a-kind place, and I am tempted not to write this review at all for fear that I won't be able to find a place to stand the next time I visit.
I walked by Daphne's a few days before Valentine's Day. On the door was a sign in the shape of a heart that read "Valentine's Day special: NO COUPLES ALLOWED". A bit cynical, and just what Edmonds needs.
We were walking past and paused to just look inside. The bartender and a few people at the bar warmly welcomed us in. This is a fun, tiny, bar. The bartender was very friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed and fun. The only thing that would keep us from visiting was that it really was a small space, they can easily get filled up.. But, I am told that they also own an Irish bar around the corner. We had wine so I can't speak on the food or mixed drinks but this place is definitely worth a try.
Review Source:Want three reasons to visit Daphne's?
Desmond, Desmond ...oh and Desmond!
He is fantastic! Our whole family loves to be charmed by him. I told him I wasn't sure what I wanted to drink so he made me a "Desmond 2" and it. was perfectly delicious. We will be back for more wonderful entertainment.
I know that I have not been into Daphne's in awhile, but it is a far cry from a sleazy hwy 99 bar like a previous reviewer had stated. Every time that I have been in there I have always been greeted with great fanfare when I walked in. I have always felt welcome there, unlike many other bars that I have been to. So, if you want to have time in an intimate setting then go to Daphne's.
Review Source:we hit Daphnes usually after dinner elsewhere in DT Edmonds. Â Not sure why anyone would go there with the thought of eating in mind - odds of getting one of the two tables is pretty slim.
Desmond is totally fun - and he always remembers you (even if you have never been there!) Â Wine, drinks, beers... love it. Â Check it out if you are looking for that end of the night drink, but I do have to say that there often seems to be someone there who has definitely had too much. Â Just try to ingore him!
Daphnes is beyond definition. It is a microbar, with two tables and a tiny bar. Both booths could seat about four each, the bar can seat five or six if memory serves me correctly, and room for a few more.
How does such a small place - survive? Outstanding service, fun staff, a European feel, great drinks and delicious food. No, you won't have dinner here but the fresh baked bread, meat and cheese plate is a great thing to chew on.
I am reluctant to write a review because I don't want too many people to know about how great Daphnes is. One thing to be mindful of, they close at midnight, and if it gets slow they will close early. I wish they were open later!!!
Jeff is an amazing bartender with a wonderful sense of humor. He connected with every patron, ensuring a wonderful time in this very intimate (and by that I mean tiny!) European-feel bar open late on a Sunday night.
I lived a block away from their sister bar, Daphnes in Fairhaven, and would frequent it often. Now living in Mill Creek, and having loved the other Daphnes, we decided to visit the Edmonds location. This is a much smaller, more intimate, and even brighter bar. Their food is very limited, only offering a cheese plate and a combo plate (Brie, Bleu, and Gouda served with a delicious and flavorful selection of thinly sliced salumi).
There are only 2 booths and maybe about 5 bar seats, so if you are coming on a weekend night, be sure to make reservations. The place was pretty full late on a Sunday night. A group of Italian men in the booth to the right, me in the booth to the left, and a few people at the bar made for a warm evening of quality cocktails, soft laughter, and good conversation for everyone.
Do check this place out. It is a fantastic little date night spot.
Daphne's is a great little spot for a lot of reasons. First and foremost, it has a definite sense of the personality it wants to project; it wants to show you that it can create an urbane setting in the middle of a fairly suburbane environment. Main Street Edmonds has the most cosmopolitan flair in the whole Edmonds Bowl, to be sure, for whatever that's worth. So Daphne's is definitely the right spot. It's in between a movie theater and a thai place.
And it does feel kind of citified in terms of the footprint of the place--it has room for a bar, a short row of stools, and a couple tables. It chains off space for a couple bistro tables outside, where there's not a lot of interruptive foot traffic, and there's a nice salt breeze blowing up from the sound on nice sunny days.
Inside, you're looking at a place that aims for the feel of a genuine cocktail lounge, and it probably lays its aim not far off the neoclassical cocktail revival that so many places have going on these days. Since the barback here is fairly small, the scale is much more modest, but the spirit is similar. Lots of straight-ahead poppy jazz and bop on the hi-fi: Sinatra, Ella, Duke, Miles.
Along the walls, there are vintage and antique guitars and other stringed instruments, and old event flyers. There's some old-school wainscoting and wallpaper, and an old-school barber chair, for some reason, in the hallway that leads to the loo. Did this place used to be a barber shop? Could be. They mention food prominently on the website, but everything about the place out front suggests that it's strictly a bar--you names your poison, you bottoms up, you bellies off for home. I am sure they do have that food, but I just haven't tried it yet. Most likely I'll be back, and maybe inquire then about the cheese plate.
Daphne, oh Daphne. Â Will you give me a chance?????
)))) Â Of course she will. Â ((((
It had been far too long since I had been here, but I still felt home, and was also surprised. Â
First off, there is a new barkeep behind the bar: Â Desmond. Â With his foreign accent (Aussie or New Zealand?), Desmond orchestrated a great time. Â The seating is comfy and cozy, and with Desmond there, all of us strangers felt like family. Â
Secondly, they now have a full bar here!! Â Yup, so if you want an Old Fashioned, or leave it up to the mixologist, the world is now open to you!
::::: Â Do watch out for the riff raff. Â :::::
We were visited by an over-served meathead who wanted to buy rounds for everyone and threw his wad on the floor declaring so. Â But this guy hit the floor soon after his wad. Â Luckily, my bro is the MAN, and his level-headed-ness was able to cool the situation. Â And he didn't even have to thump this guy on his head. Â Stranger bought my bro a round (I think my brother's his hero now), and Desmond gave a firm handshake.
Such a nice night.
Daphne, thank you for a wonderful night!
Four of us tried to go to Daphne's last Sunday evening around 7:30pm. It was packed! We ended up at Epulo's instead, unfortunately for us (that's another review). I forgot to mention in my previous review that you had better have a backup destination if you are trying to go to Daphne's. It is very small and you never know if you will get a spot to sit. It is not a very comfy place to stand for more than 5 minutes. Still, we'll be back!
Review Source:Loved this place! It's little, only a crowd of 8-10 can fit. The bartender was wonderful. I didn't think he was too boisterous or overbearing, very friendly. My husband and I went by ourselves and found he gave us our own space (even though there's not a lot of it) but still interacted with us at the right times.
The selection of wine/appetizers is also small, but does seem to fit the theme of the place. I didn't think it was more then any other wine bar we've been too, but I would still suggestion a price list.
During the summer months there is outside seating, and the decor of the place is great. It's a must see place.
Great location in downtown Edmonds - next to the movie theater, which is a short ways towards the ferry dock from the central rotary. Â We went on a Monday and a one-night-a-week bartender was working. Â He was skilled at engaging the clientele at appropriate times, as others have said of the owner. Â A relaxing atmosphere, but better for a group of 3-4 or an intimate night out rather than the simple "let's just go out" night the two of us were having.
The menu promises four types of beer, including "something dark". Â When we went, it was the Elysian IPA. Â I like this beer, but wouldn't really call it dark. Â And, $7/pint is a bit much. Â The meat/cheese plate was similarly very good but expensive.
Overall, I"m happy to have been but won't go back often. Â A good match for many, as you'll see in the other reviews, but not a good match for me and therefore not worth paying the premium. Â But that's okay - there are plenty of places to drink a stout and watch the game.
Oh yeah - make sure to walk back to the bathroom, whether you have to go or not! Â Very cool.
Went here the other day to finally check it out after chatting a few times with them on Twitter. LOVED the vibe of the place, had a very laid back European feel to it. Chuck at the bar was fun to chat with without feeling like I was distracting him or like he wouldn't leave me alone. Unfortunately when I went they were out of most of their food options after a busy weekend. My only knock against the place is that even though I went at happy hour my pint was still $6. Ouch! Then again, I'd much rather pay more and enjoy the cozy, fun atmosphere than pay less and go to a noisy tavern somewhere. Highly recommend if you're looking for a place to pass an hour before dinner or enjoy a quiet evening sipping wine outdoors on a summer evening. I'll definitely be going back to sample the Salumi plate!
Review Source:Daphne's is a quaint and wonderful world onto itself. If there's a stool or table to spare in the tiny confines of this historical gem, grab it, relax, and enjoy a glass of wine with a plate of meats or cheeses. I don't take the 5 star rating lightly, but there's nothing to compare it to. As such, Daphne's is as good as it gets. Lovely, quaint, relaxing, a gem -- all words that come to mind and shared by others here.
Review Source:I met my wife and daughter here for a nightcap late one evening after I'd attended a meeting that concluded after 9:00 PM. Â The joint is tiny -- about two-strides wide -- and the selection of beers and wines is equally narrow, but it all works. Â I'm not sure what the proprietor is going for -- 1920's speakeasy? Â French saloon? -- but it seems to engender a camaraderie enjoyed by everyone who manages to squeeze into the place.
Review Source:This is a great little spot in Edmonds. Â I think it's quite the trend setter, and Edmonds could use that the kind of vibe to dust off the notion that it's a town for mostly older people. Â Jeff is the guy that runs the place and he's the character. Â He's funny, out going and does not discriminate in doling out the jokes and quips. Â They have just a handful of beer taps, Hoegaarden, Stella, Roger's Pilsner and Framboise. Â They have a generous cheese and meat platter featuring Salumi meats. Â It's very chic with a couple outdoor tables, it's kind of a like a little bit of France with out the pretentiousness. Â I can't wait to go back, there's a great following and in my visit I met a lot of really engaging people. Â Not to mention Jeff makes a great Hurricane, which is fantastic given that they don't even have a liquor license. Â Magnifique!
Review Source:What a gem! I give this place 10 stars out of 5. The smallest bar you've ever been to but such great character and attention to detail. Wine, beer, olives, warm bread, cheese, nuts. Don't expect many options in those categories but they do have those categories.
You do not want to miss Daphne's if you're in Edmonds. Such a great interior environment they've established!
This is one of the best little (emphasis on little) high lights in a village that caters too an older, gentile group. Daphne serves a diminutive selection of good wine, beer and nosh but does it with aplomb. Tonite, Jeff was my bartender, I was in early and had a couple hours of nice chatter and a few glasses of some fine nice red wine. Just what I needed to while away a couple of hours while it rained outside....sweet place!
Review Source:My new favorite place in all of Edmonds is Daphne's. Â It's an itty-bitty little bar tucked between Thai Cottage and the Edmonds Theater that serves unique beers and wines and little tastes of food and it's about as close to intimate perfection as it gets. Â
We met Ezra - the super friendly bartender, learned a little bit of local gossip, drank some port and some mead and some Lambic Framboise and even a Dry Lavender Soda. had a couple of pieces of chocolate and loved every minute of it.
With it's dim mood lighting, old time music and great service, like someone else said, you step in and it doesn't feel like Edmonds anymore. Â It doesn't even feel like 2008. Â Because of that escapism combined with the community feel of the place, I can easily see myself becoming a regular at Daphne's.
This place is exactly what Edmonds needed. Â It is so small and intamate, but absolutely perfect for the Edmonds setting. Â If you go for a bite to eat in the area of one one the many great restaurants Edmonds has to provide and end the evening here for a night cap or two! Great wine selections, and they also have a bit to eat as well if you are feeling more on the lighter side!
Review Source:This has become a favorite place for me and my wife. Â It's like walking into someplace much hipper and cooler than we're used to here in Edmonds (yes, I'm an urban snob living in the suburbs). Â It's got amazing decor (think the attention to detail of the art direction and set design in "Mad Men" transplanted to a Belgian cafe), the bartender is super-friendly, and it has great belgian beer, bar snacks (including salami from Salumi), and other eats and drinks.
Review Source:Where downtowners go "out" in Edmonds!
Friends invited us over for dinner at their house in Edmonds. Once the food and wine were gone we all decided to wander into town.
First of all, this town is so damn cute! Second, Daphne's is even cuter!
We scored the last table available at 10-ish on Saturday night in this tiny little place. It might be smaller than my apartment and my apartment is SMALL!
The boys got themselves some belgium beer and the girls got glasses of Framboise Lambic...YUM! YUM! YUM! It was so nice we had it twice.
Can't wait to go back to Daphnes!
This is the latest open bar in Edmonds! Â Not only are the beers on tap unique, the salumi platter tasty, the service is charming. Â Their Belgium beer on tap is my favorite. Â After going in once, the owner will remember you and what you like to order. Â I love the Judy Garland playing in the background as eveyrone is huddled up at the bar.
