Wings! Wings! Wings!
They make their own sauces, so you know they take it seriously. The Habanero definitely lives up to its billing as a 5 level spiciness. The 4s, however, aren't really that spicy at all. They have a nice kick, but you won't be reaching for your drink!
3 stars for the ambiance (it's just a crummy bar, after all) but 4 stars for the wings!
It's a sign of a good restaurant when I can't decide what to order. Usually I rule out everything but 1 or 2 options because they don't sound appealing--this wasn't the case here. Â Turkey burger, wings, a fiesta salad...so many decisions for an afternoon. I ended up choosing the Blue Bird, minus the blue, and didn't regret it. Of course I went with tots. The food came out piping hot and delicious, no complaints here. I was a fatty and ordered a side of ranch for dipping, which was also top notch. I'd definitely come back to try their wings and drinks.
Review Source:Had such a good time here! I'm a vegetarian and was a little worried that I wouldn't find anything I liked. I'm happy to report that I found a great salad--a buffalo chicken salad, sans chicken did the trick. The waitress was more than happy to comply with my not-so-typical request at a wing joint, which is appreciated! We had a large group and the service was terrific. I'll be back again soon!
Review Source:So much more than a wing spot! Â Went in for lunch with a large group and everyone left more than satisfied! Â From salads to sandwiches and, of course, the wings, everything looked fresh and tasted incredible. Â Delicious food, friendly service and an awesome atmosphere make this place a must try destination. Â I will definitely be back.
Review Source:I've been hearing about Dirty Birds for a while now and finally had the chance to check it out a few weeks ago. I went for lunch with co-workers and I have to say it's the perfect spot for a big group. We ordered a bunch of appetizers, including the delicious hummus. We also ordered various wings to try all the different flavors. There's no shortage of different options of sauces. The service is speedy, food is tasty and the atmosphere is casual. I'd definitely recommend Dirty Birds to friends looking for a nice, laid-back meal.
Review Source:So glad to have stopped by Dirty Birds a few weeks ago! It is definitely the type of casual place I have been looking for in PB for a long time now! The staff is great and very welcoming. If you like sports, they have a bunch of TVs (nothing beats a good ice-cold beer while watching a game, right?). The food is also really good. My favorite is the Blue Bird Sandwich...(god, I shouldn't have written this review just before lunch! All I can do now is think about the Dirty Birds menu and crave their food!)
If you are one of the many people who blame PB's bars and restaurants for being crowded with crazy/drunk young people, Dirty Birds is THE place for you.
HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! We called Dirty Birds to place an order for lunch for work staff on 07/16/13 about 12:50pm. The first time there was no answer and went straight to voicemail. The 2nd time, the employee answered with "hold on". When he came back to the phone, we were finalizing our order (no salt on the fries) and asked him to hold a moment to verify. He responded "no" and hung up on us. We won't be eating there or calling for a lunch order again. They missed out on a large staff lunch order. We'll be going to Duck Dive where there's good Customer Service going forward.
Review Source:So much more than just wings (although those are great) and beer shotguns (which are gone now). Dirty Birds is a great neighborhood spot for people who want to kick back in a relaxing atmosphere away from the poop-show that people typically associate with spots further south in PB.
Here are some things you need to know:
Friendly crew, from the door people to the staff to the patrons. Respect gets respect, so come in with a smile, don't be an asshole to anyone and you're going to have a great time. You can bring your parents if you want. It's a pretty welcoming spot.
There's never a bad time to be here. Afternoon weekends off the beach are awesome, so is pre-evening happy hour and late night. I don't eat out often mid-week, but they have a great scene for lunch and dinner too.
Menu is ever-evolving. Their burgers and sandwhches are great, but they just added a Baja Chicken Salad too that people tell me is excellent, so if you're into salad too (no idea why), it's supposedly great.
The crowd skews 26-31, like most of PB, but there's definitely some 30+ people in the mix. If you're over 30, you won't feel old just because you step in here.
Beer selection is diverse. Typical American/light, with some mexican and craft handles that rotate regularly too. They have hard liquor if that's your thing (it's not mine).
Specials mid-week are rock solid. I wish I could go out mid-week more to take advantage of them.
It's casual. I wouldn't call it a dive like some people have. It's clean and comfortable, but not run down or crappy.
Like sports? These guys have a million TV's on the wall. Ok, not a million, but there are a lot. And they're pretty accommodating if you ask nicely to put your favorite game on.
Oh yeah, supposedly they won an award for having the best wings this side of the Mississippi. If you're chicken wings, you may want to check them out. Roll with the Diablo, they're pretty mild ;-)
Dirty Birds... my first review for DB after being there several times. Â I'm involved with monthly Beach Cruiser Rides that take place at night during the summer and held all over San Diego. Â We average 30-60 riders and Dirty Birds is one of our frequent stops. Â We pull in on average 30+ people to eat wings, food, drink beer and good times! Â We don't ask for any special favors... however this last time we did. Â Being we consistently bring in a decent amount of business, all we asked is if there were any "specials" for the group like a Happy Hour prices? Beer specials? Â Anything? Â The answer was "No".
This Bike Group has a great working relationship with a lot of businesses throughout San Diego. Â Literally every place we frequent provides discounts to the group, both restaurants and bike shops alike. Â It's kind of a two way thank you. Â I understand there's no obligation and that a business shouldn't receive a less than good review over it, but it's not like it was our first visit. Â We've been droppin' into DB's since last summer. Â And when you bring in a party of 30+ people each time... Â no specials?
Anyhow... the food is always decent, some items a little pricey like basic plain chips and salsa for $5.00, something you normally get for free at an Alberto's. Â And of course the waitresses were tipped doing a nice job. Â In the end we're scheduled to drop in again later this summer... maybe someone there is reading this? ...or maybe not.
After 2 years of living in PB I have finally gone to Dirty Birds.  Our waitress was beyond nice and super excited that it was our first time to try their infamous wings.  She made some recommendations that we actually ended up going with.  We ordered the maple chipotle BBQ, Garlic and Herb and Dirty Blue.  I only consumed the Garlic and herb wings because I tend to stay away from anything that could be potentially spicy.  My brother and Fiancé enjoyed their wings, they had a spice factor of I think 3 but they said they weren't  spicy at all.  I liked my garlic and herb wings they were enjoyable .  I would want to go back to try their other wings, they were pretty good and definitely worth another visit!
Review Source:So naughty these birds are, and just terrible for someone who's trying to watch his figure. Hah, almost kidding. Since my go-to Bubs stopped having 0.25 wing Wednesdays, I guess this is a decent alternative for 1/2 wing Tuesdays. Being located where there's virtually no parking, and realizing most of the people at the bar are there to watch the game, good luck getting a seat! Dont play dirty like..we almost did. ;)
Wings:
- Â Maple Chipotle BBQ Wings: One of my favorites with a very distinct BBQ flavor (this is 80% of it), and you can taste the tinge of maple and chipotle. It's a nice mix because if you like BBQ, you'll get that throughout, but it remains calm and subtle with the chipotle. It beats having regular BBQ, and the 3.5 rating honestly doesn't have a kick. It should be labeled a 1.5 or 2. Not hot at all. My friend who cant stand spicy foods, ate all of them. That means something
- Sweet Chili Wings: These are my favorite because I love the sweet chili flavor. If you've tried TapEx sweet chili sauce, this is pretty much the same concoction brushed onto wings. I love the tangy sweetness with the flakes that give it a very very subtle kick. With the crunchy skin you're getting a treat. Good choice.
- Honey Mustard Wings: The mild honey mustard flavor is decent with the smoothness and slight sweetness of the thick sauce. It doesn't overwhelm the wing but it complements it well. Good choice, not my favorite, but it's a safe one.
- Garlic Parmesan Wings: If you like the butteriness to stand out, this is your wing. The Parmesan sprinkled on the wings gives it that classic flavor, but the butter garlic is where the game is at. It's honestly a little simple for my taste, but it's safe. Maybe a little too safe.
Pros:
- Get 20 wings, and they end up being $0.55 each on Tuesdays since they are half off. Decent deal. Normally it's 20 wings for 22 bucks. Noonehasmoneylikethat!
- I love how the wings are slightly crispy before they brush on sauces. It makes it taste fresher, and more pleasing to experience.
- No need to fight for seats since the bouncer/nametaker has you down.
Cons:
- When it's crowded, you have no clue when you'll get seating. Good luck
- I've been drinking cups and cups of water for a few hours now. Sodium overdose? MSG? Be prepared? What?
Portion control:
- Men tend to eat around 12-15 to be pretty decently full. I was very content with 12 without feeling too gross.
- Women would be pretty content with around 8-10.
- Someone may throw some gender-equality hatemail at me, gurrrl please.
So you know, I'm definitely down to go eat some of these birds with a girl...mainly because they typically eat less and I get to enjoy more. Shhh dont tell Nikki that.
My finger hovered over the 5 stars for while before I settled on giving this place three stars. Overall I was happy with the food and the place itself... however... there were too many "WTF" moments during our visit to warrant the fifth star.
Where do I start?
After a 10 hour drive from San Francisco, all I wanted was a taste of home. We headed over to Hodads for a "welcome home" meal. It was 3pm, so I figured... it's between two meals and not quite happy hour... the wait shouldn't be bad. I was dead wrong. The line at Hodads was to the end of the block. As much as I wanted a juicy, bacony, burger that tasted like SD, my stomach would have eaten itself before we even ordered. Thanks Yelp, for pointing us in the direction of Dirty Birds!
So we sit. And we wait. and wait. and wait. (WTF moment #1). The waitress looked annoyed and just overall unhappy with the other people she was serving. And that attitude definitely translated to her service towards us (WTF moment #2). Eventually she took our drink orders, and these we had relatively quickly. A LOONNNNGGGG wait later (after we had clearly decided what we wanted to eat), she finally took our orders. In the meanwhile, there was clearly an issue with the table behind us, and she did NOT want to take care of those folks. (WTF moment #3).
I ordered a BR burger, medium-rare w/ no BBQ sauce. It had pepperjack cheese, jalapenos, and crispy onions. If you want lettuce, tomatoes, onions & pickles, you have to ask for it on the side. It's on the menu, but nowhere where you would actually read to know that these don't come on the burger. I sadly did not get any pickles (didn't ask. the scowl on her face was scary). I ordered mac and cheese for my side, and also got an order of buffalo ranch wings. The food... I was hopeful for. It was delicious.... but would have been even better if it was cooked correctly and I had pickles. My burger came out medium plus, which was way overcooked for my liking. The mac and cheese was FANTASTIC. The buffalo ranch wings... well... they tasted exactly how you would think they would taste... like buffalo wings with the ranch already tossed in. It was delicious... and the extra ranch to dip it in made it even better! Sad to only see one lonely stalk of celery and a sad piece of carrot... but whatever.... it was $3.50 for 5 wings.
The place is really cool. It turns out, this place is a RAVENS bar. Definitely sending my Maryland friends this way when they visit. There's a bunch of TVs everywhere, so wherever you're sitting, you'll be able to catch a game. This place will remain bookmarked to remind me that it's going to be fantastic for sports-watching.
Wings are also half off during happy hour. And there's a TON of fun flavors. I will need to return to sample them all.
I'll be back. Hopefully with a better experience next time. I really want to like this place...
So, a couple of friends and I stopped here on a Tuesday night during the dinner rush. Quoted a 45 minute wait, no problem I get it - it's a tiny place with a wing special on Tuesdays. In the mean time, we decided to drink some beer.
...Two hours later, we got seated. It took sooo freaking long! We saw multiple groups (of the same number) arrive after us but get seated first. We asked the door guy multiple times, but he insisted we were close. We got so impatient that we tried to jack some seats haha.
Anyway, when we finally got seated, we ordered a bunch of different flavors. The mood was a little ruined from our marathon wait so I thought I'd talk to the manager to try to make everyone happy again. After a couple minutes of her explaining she's sorry and couldn't do anything - she offered us a free pitcher of beer. We took it despite being DRUNK from the SEVEN pitchers of beer we had while waiting.
We wait wait wait for our food and we notice that literally no one is waiting for seats!!! Whaaa? I was so annoyed and angry.
Anyway, wings are pretty good (but I had drunchies so that probably contributed) and super cheap on Tuesdays. The pulled pork loaded tots are good too, but we ate them with fingers for most of the time because we didn't get forks till after the third time we asked.
Despite the fact that I enjoyed the food, it was not worth the two hour wait. I'm reluctant to try them again anytime soon because service is so important to me. Sad too because I've been looking for a bomb wing joint.
Go to restaurant in PB for chicken wings! I've consistently had great experiences at this (very casual) restaurant with a diverse crowd! I've seen some of the funniest things here too. They do a habanero sauce challenge where you have to eat a full plate of wings doused in the sauce and cannot wipe your face/drink anything until you've eaten EVERYTHING. I watched my boyfriend at the time do it, and I was crying from laughing so hard. It looks like a miserable process, definitely NOT for the faint of heart. He spent the next hour throwing up and chugging milk. Anyways, the wings are always tender and delicious, plus their beer menu is great!
Review Source:Dirty Birds wings are my favorite wings ever. There are so many flavors! Dirty ranch is like crack to me.. It is so so good. Honey Pot is a great sweet flavor as an alternative to the spicy ones. Wings cost $7 for 5, and are half off on Tuesdays. Trivia night (SO FUN!) on Wednesdays. I'd say typically the wings are worth it for the price, but last night I went, and they were tiny! I was not pleased. Good thing we did well at trivia night, or else I would have left very very displeased.
The servers aren't the nicest people, and there is relatively little seating since the place is so small. The music they play is... lackluster.
For these reasons, food is 5 stars and general ambience is 3 stars, leading to a grand total of 4 stars.
Gah I am so backed up on reviews that I'm only just getting here. Â Stopped here with a coworker to kill some time and warm up with some beer and wings. Â
Wings are quite large! Hope you brought an appetite. Â Beer selection is above par for what I expected to be sort of like a beach side bar, that's not on the beach. Â I definitely want to come back and try the variety of flavors for wings. Â I'm leaving some room to be really impressed by this place.
KWell first of all the rude welcoming by douchebag bouncer Shawn which extremely rude and disrespects customers behind their back a few remarks I heard during my wait to be seated. Apart from the rude welcoming the wings were RAW I mean if you can't even cook chicken then what are they good at?!! Yea pink chicken wings served and all undercooked I usually don't complain but this was not acceptable i mean who can't cook chicken for Christ sake , the sauces are extremely greasy and not spicy so if you hot wings just skip this place , the happy hour is good but the wait and food are not something worth your time . Will not be returning
Review Source:These wings are bigger than Hooters. Â I love how they have so many selections. Â The sauces that I tried were:
Dirty Ranch
Ninja
Habanero
Garlic Parmesan
I didn't get a chance to try the other flavors only because I got full off of 6 wings. Â I normally eat 15 at Hooters! Â
Out of those flavors, I enjoyed the Dirty Ranch and Garlic Parmesan the most. Â Ninja was too sweet for my taste and Habanero was wayyyyy too spicy for me, and I LOVE spicy!! Â
They have an awesome all you can eat deal on Monday's after 6 pm for $14.99. Â First serving is a serving of 10 with just one flavor. Â After that, you order in a serving of 5 with a different flavor. Â Next time I'll do that if I know I'm real hungry. Â Unfortunately I came but I jugged a whole bottle of vitamin water and had a fried mac n cheese ball before my chicken wings came out so I didn't eat as much as I wanted.
But it was a good experience. Â Hopefully I will return to try the other flavors.
This place has some of the best wings you can find in San Diego. They've got everything from spicy hot to delicious and plenty of good beer on tap to wash it all down. These wings are serious business not the puny little ones you find at other places like Hooters ;)
They may or may not have other stuff on the menu, I have no idea I only go here for the wings! Price is relatively cheap and they have specials most days too.
After hearing such good things about Dirty Birds, I really wanted to love it but instead walked away thinking it was just okay.
My biggest problem is that I'm pretty sure we were overcharged for our tater tots...or the menu price is wrong. We ordered the loaded tots with bits of steak on top, which is listed at $8 on the menu and yet were charged $11. I'm not sure if the extra charge was intended for the steak but the menu did not list that there would be an extra charge. It simply said "a mound of your choice of crispy tater tots or seasoned battered fries loaded with melted cheese & your choice of turkey chili, bbq pulled pork, diced steak or crispy bacon." I double checked when we got home and the online menu agrees.
I'm not a fan of meat on the bone so I ordered chicken strips, which were just okay. The best part of the meal for me was the side green salad that came with the strips. And the ranch was amazing!
My boyfriend said that he liked the Ninja wings but didn't find them to be very spicy despite their 4-star rating. The wing prices seemed a little high at $7 for 5 wings. He thinks you can get cheaper wings at Hooters.
The restaurant is on the small side and has a dive bar feel to it. Not sure if it's always the case but on Friday night they checked IDs at the door.
Ordered Mac & Cheese Balls. Delish. With. Jalapeños and cheese sauce it has a nice little kick.
Friend ordered house chicken strips (with a side salad) with a level four sauce. The sauce was thick like BBQ sauce but was good.
They have a late night happy hour Sun-Thurs (10p-close) that we were able to take advantage of.
Great customer service. It was 21+ when we came at 10p.
One of the best  wings place I have been to. They have a huge variety of sauces for the wings. Some of the sauces are alright, many are really tasty. Tuesdays are half off wings but they can get really crowded.
They have a hot wings challenge that I hear is worth trying. Will have to give it a shot sometime.
I almost died.
The habanero wings are not a joke, I took one bite & saw my life flash before my eyes ! I love spicy food but it was a struggle to eat these without wanting to rip my lips off (gross visual, excusez-moi, but highly realistic). The normal wings that weren't the spawn of satan (lemon pepper, garlic parm, maple chipotle) were all fantastic, & the half-off price on Tuesdays sweetened the deal. Also, those birdies are best accompanied with some TOTS! Yes, relive your elementary school days, without the shame of missing your 2 front teeth. Ahh.
The only problem with this place is the size, it's generally packed and the wait time was almost an hour. So come thirsty, down a couple beers while standing awkwardly & shuffling side to side while you wait (is it possible to be in EVERYONE's way SIMULTANEOUSLY? For moi, yes).
This review is solely for take-out. And man oh man was I excited to taste their wings, but to my dismay I was yet again truly let down. Â For a place that people keep constantly raving about their wings to be the best in San Diego, really let me to believe otherwise.
My brother was kind enough to get me five Lemon Pepper and five Habanero. Â I'll be honest, I was more looking forward to tasting the Habanero wings more than the LP. Â As I opened the take-out box, my mouth was salivating as I stared at the habanero wings because they looked as if I'd need a glass of milk while devouring them. Â To my surprise, I did not need a glass of milk nor started sweating bullets as I mostly do when my taste buds hit anything habanero. Â Normally you can never go wrong with habanero because it almost always has that kick of heat that you're looking for, but these were mild to the bone. Â And the LP wings tasted more of pepper than lemon, they literally looked as if they were doused in pepper or someone just didn't get the memo about the lemon. Â The wings were also burnt; yuck. Â
I really wanted to like this place and their wings, but I guess I'll have to resort to Wing Stop until I find a better place with even hotter wings; i love it hot and the spicier the better! I am open to suggestions if anybody out there in the yelp world likes it hot like me :)
I've been here three times and enjoyed my wings each visit. Dirty Birds is solid and has all you can eat wings on Mondays.
I usually order ten wings and have a tough time deciding on what flavor to go with, but dirty ranch always wins.
The wings are fresh and you must order the Parmesan tater tots! The service is great but can be a little slow if its busy or a game day.
One of my favorite places to eat when I'm in PB. Dirty Birds is clearly a great wing / sports bar. Service is nice and all the other customer appear to be pleased unless there team is facing a Big "L"... But even a loss towards your favorite sports club won't change the mood in Dirty Birds.
Just don't get to drunk because this is still a family friendly bar. I Luv the wings and tots!
Let me start off by saying my two stars are not about the food or beer because they were a-okay in my book. My two stars easily would be four if it wasn't for our rude waitress. Let me list out why she was "the worst":
1. Never came back to ask us if we wanted more to drink.
2. Was rude when she brought our food to the table.
3. When I clearly told her what I ordered she failed to give me the right bill (5 wings and one pitcher, I could understand if it was complicated)
4. Added gratuity on a 8 person table with only 6 eating & provided horrible service.
As for the food it was pretty good and the beer was good as any other. One cool thing about this place is they have board games. I would go back but would not sit in that servers section ever again.
This review is long overdue. Looking for an easy-to-deal-with bar that attracts good people and gives excellent service? Want something near the water, but not in the thick of mainstream PB insanity that is also guaranteed to be tasty? Want to rest assured that those serving you and watching over you while here are great people? This is your place!
If Jacobi is behind the bar and you're not sure what you want, throw out your general taste mood and he'll nail it. They've got a great menu with a little bit of something for everybody. If you like wings, I hear this is the spot for it - I'm not a wing fan, but my boyfriend loves them at DB's. I'm excited they have a new Baja Salad on the menu that I need to try out next time (I know... salad at a bar, but I crave salad the way boys crave wings. I can't help it).
Go here - but not when I'm going, because I don't want it to start getting too packed! :)
Love this place! Great place to come and hang out after a long day's of work and tip back a couple of beers.
Each day has a different special: AYCE wings, 1/2 price menu (or something like that-my favorite day), etc. I usually like to come when it's 1/2 off price menus. Pretty much people come for the wings. They have a big selection of wing sauces. Also, their tater tots are AMAZING.
TIP: WATCH OUT FOR THE HABANERO!! Took one bite and I was about to pass out (and I LOOOOVE spicy food)
Missing a star because of how small the place is. If you dont' get here early enough, you're guaranteed a wait. You can just grab a beer though so no biggie. And the last time I went, they were actually taking names down and seating you so that's definitely an improvement. The wait was almost 45 minutes though. Just enough to get a little buzz on. ;)
HOW HAVE I LIVED IN SAN DIEGO FOR 5 YEARS WITHOUT DIRTY BIRDS?!
These wings are the reason why I can say with confidence that I love wings. Hands down the best I've tried in San Diego, and worth the wait. Don't know why you would go here and not order wings, especially when they have the world's most extensive selection of sauces.
We tried a few and they were all good, but I would recommend the Dirty Ranch. Honestly, I'm salivating thinking about these wings.
Must. Go. Back. ASAP.
Good Place to Watch Games on T.V.
I like to eat salad, and for a bar...they have a great selection of salads and you can add your favorite burger to that if you like :-) Â I usually get the turkey or veggie burger.
Their Dirty Sauce (Ranch/Wings sauce mixed) Is off the hook.
They have a good selection of I.P.A.'s
Carlo one of their bartenders is the absolute best! Â Great Service :-)
I've got to knock a star off for my most recent jaunt to this establishment. I arrived early in order to save a seat for my friend, yet the doorman still made her stand outside for 5 minutes and threatened not to let her in at all. He was pretty rude about it, and rude doormen are a real pet peeve of mine. I hate being consescended to just because I happen to be frequenting a bar. I'm a patron, spending money. Treat me like it. Also, the wings were pretty crappy this go-around. I'm not sure how equipped they are for handling a play off crowd.
The only reason the review stands as a 3 star instead of lower is by virtue of the singular nature of this establishment, in the San Diego area. If there was another Ravens bar around, I would be checking it out.
One of my go to places in SD. Wings are fantastic and come in a variety of flavors. Also, the prices are extremely reasonable. Most places do Wing Wednesday. Dirty Birds does their wing special on Tuesday. $0.55 - $0.60 per wing.
TIP: If you got some free time during weekdays, you should come here any weekday between 3 - 6PM. They have the same wing deal during that happy hour.
The wings themselves are decent sized. Similar to what you can get at Bub's Dive Bar. Way smaller than the monstrous wings they have at Callahan's. Most of the flavors here featured fried wings. My favorite wing flavor is the General Bird. Its a spicy, slightly asian flavored wing. The flaming honey mustard is also a favorite. Slightly spicy and sweet honey mustard flavor. Doesn't get any better than that. Besides the wings, I highly recommend the loaded tots. Tater tots just remind me of the carefree days of elementary school. Get it with pulled pork. The soft pork and BBQ sauce go great with the crunchy and soft tots. The burgers here are pretty standard and I usually don't get them as I'm here for wings.
The place is a bar, so the atmosphere and service goes with that. Kinda slow and nice enough service. Crowded on Tuesdays for the special and on game nights.
Be aware that its 21+ after 5PM or so. If you're under-aged, make sure to come early.
Apparently Tuesday is half off wing night at Dirty Birds, but football doesn't happen on Tuesday night so I wouldn't know about that. What I DO know is that this is the place to be if you are a Ravens fan (or a Steelers hater, that always works too!).
Opening time is 9:30am on those 10am game days and if you're from the east coast and aren't really used to being at a bar that early for a game, don't worry - DB has $4 bloodys and $10 bottles of champagne for make your own mimosas.
It gets crowded with purple jerseys on game days so - like those other busy days - it helps to get there early. The bartenders are efficient if not over the top friendly, but I'm okay with that. Food and drink come out quickly and wings are definitely what you should be ordering. Others have reviewed the wings, so I don't need to redouble their efforts but I will give a shout out for the Old Bay Wings (yummy!).
The best part about Dirty Birds, particularly on game day, is the camaraderie. Every time I go in I see the same faces, I've made friends with some of those faces, and even if you don't know anyone, you can always find someone to share a cheer or jeer with.
Sorry kids. Gotta knock you down off your pedestal.
Came here on Tuesday for happy hour, mind brimming with nostalgia and high hopes. This used to be THE Tuesday night ritual. Times have changed.
The age old system of circling, vulture-like, for an empty table has been usurped by a wait list, run by the bouncer.
Huzzah! You might think.
But then you'd be horribly, irretrievably mistaken, friend.
Expect your experience to unfurl as follows:
1. Talk to the bouncer. Make a reservation for 6. Smooth sailing. You're SO GOOD at this.
2. Wait staff needs to have room to move and it's freaking packed like a mustache sale at a hipster convention. Sit down to wait.
3. Your bouncer has immediately lost interest in finding you a table. He proceeds to discuss deep and weighty things with a table of bros who are better than you.
4. You are approached by a stressed out, angry waitress who has been hit on too far much. Its only 7 o'clock. Your happy hour beer options are Coors and Bud Light. Weep internally and order the Coors.
5. Your bouncer "friend" is getting his "flirt" on. Meanwhile another group has simply walked up and taken the table that you were waiting for.
6. You order wings. Nothing funny happens. Your sense of humor has been overridden by the feeling of your stomach consuming itself.
7. Wings arrive. Angrily consume them while you and your party attempt to make light of the situation. At this point, realize that if you ordered anything other than lemon pepper seasoning, your wings are pink inside and underdone. MMM! Salmonella-ey!
8. The bouncer has decided to do his job. Rejoice! He calls out two groups of 5 that walked in 20 minutes after you and directs them to their seats. What. The. EFF.
9. Confront the bouncer. Turns out he crossed you off the list without telling you because you were performing such grievous violations of conduct such as "sitting down", "ordering things", and "taking up room".
10. Pay for the privilege of the opportunity to experience such fine service and cuisine.
I'm more disappointed than angry.
You lost a hardcore fan and a regular, guys.
