Questionable....probably one of my worst food experiences ever. I'll spare you the details but I would have to say I would never visit again...my first and last...be wary ! Not sure how you screw up eggplant but they managed BIG TIME. Careful food handling needs to be practiced, if you want to lose some weight really fast...
Review Source:i really liked what i ordered and what my boyfriend got ... i had sesame crusted seared ahi tuna salad and he got broccoli rabe egg rolls. Â these were pretty unique. Â otherwise, there was nothing going on that was especially outstanding here. Â the thing is based on the name of the place i think we were expecting more of a traditional seafood crab and lobster type spot and instead got an upscale chilis. Â I would go back, only now i know what to expect.
Review Source:I went to this restaurant over the weekend and service was horrible! Took forever for the waitress to get  to the table. I had to get up and ask. Our party ordered a couple bottles of wine and the server just put the bottles on the table never poured the wine. Some glasses were dirty and  had lipstick on them! The restaurant was messy the floor looked like it had not been vacuumed in days. The food was ok  but arrived NOT hot. I spoke to the manager and she didn't seem to concern of the issues.  I give this restaurant a "0".
Review Source:I've started going here recently for trivia on Wednesdays. The restaurant is decent - 2 "floors" with tables and a loft above them for private gatherings. The staff has been pretty attentive and friendly. I've ordered a buffalo chicken wrap (technically not on the menu, but they've never given me a problem) which is good. My friend tends to happily order one of their club sandwiches which are huge. They have a few drink specials though no specials specifically for the trivia night. There are always glasses and a carafe of water on the table which is very handy and more restaurants should do that.  The only frustrating thing is that trivia goes from about 9-11 yet the waiters all seem to be done around 10...which  means they always want you to pay your bill before you're necessarily done (or especially if you win that night and would've preferred to put your winning gift card toward the tab). So we're usually fumbling around trying to split the bill while trivia questions are being read which is kind of annoying. At most other places, the waitstaff stays until close or at least until trivia is over.
Review Source:At first glance from the outside, Donovan's Reef looked pretty fancy schmancy...even inside. Â People who dined at the restaurant were dressed casually for a saturday early dinner. Â It might be different later that night. Â I ordered the fish and chips and it was delicious..the crust was crunchy and not the cakey kind that gets soggy and gross. Â It seemed as if it was made of cornmeal. Â It was excellent. Â My friend ordered the truffle pizza with prociutto - it looked amazing and she said it was very decadent. Â I'm going to have that next time! Â Customer service was impeccable and they checked on us many times. Â I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you're in the area!
Review Source:I've come here a couple times using a Groupon or Yelp deal each time. The last time I went, I had the turkey club, which was really really good. The next time I've got a hankerin' for a t-club, I'll choose this place over some greasy diner.
I've had a burger and a salad from here on the other occasions - no bad experiences, but nothing ever blew me away. The wine and beer selection is decent; bartenders are always nice.
I think the atmosphere is the most off-putting thing. It's a big space, and it always feels dark. The times I've been in, there seem to be a few regulars always at the bar, and the rest of the place is fairly empty. The draw seems to be the bar, with the rest of the place just hanging out in case someone wants a table. Maybe some kind of delineation between bar and restaurant would be good? The place could maybe give itself some personality, too - I don't know that the restaurant knows what it wants to be when it grows up - a bar? a sports bar? a restaurant? a nice place? a regular hangout? Until it figures out its personality, it won't be anything great - just a decent place to go for a turkey club (there are many worse things to be).

I expected really great things from this place. Â Many people said it was a good place we can depend on. Â I was most disappointed with our boot camp instructor (oops, I meant order taker) Â When we needed to add a table to our group he barked at the hosts to get up here and do that (where your hands broken?) Â He had that approach with the rest of us, barking loud, intruding orders of how this would go. Â I was turned off right away. Â He did nothing than take our order and then auction our food off. Â (if you took our order, you should know where the food goes!!! Â Others refilled our drinks. Â I hope the tip was shared. Â I am glad he did not had the automatic tip, as he was worthy of about 10%...
The Lobster Bisque soup was INCREDIBLE! Â The highlight of the meal for me! Â Limited oil based salad dressings (none others), and oily fish were disappointing.
I will continue to search for a dinner place in Branford, as I didn't find one on this trip. Â For the money, a chain restaurant would have suited me just find as I would have paid less and been more satisfied.
We came here for dinner on a Monday night and the place was pretty empty. Â I ordered buffalo wings, which were quite large and very tasty. Â I wish they weren't as crispy but my husband loved them. Â My husband ordered a skirt steak special and he LOVED it. Â I will probably return. Â We had a little difficulty finding it because its located behind some buildings on Main St.
Review Source:We stumbled upon this place on our way back to New York, and were very happy that we did. Nice place, on the larger side (3 Â levels), but has a very cozy feel; friendly service; good food. New York prices :)
We tried NY style calamari (fried calamari in fra Diavolo sauce), a bit hot but rather tasty and great as appetizer; fish and chips (haddock in batter, yummy and juicy, with surprisingly tasty fries), and lobster pie (pieces of lobster in flaky pastry, with some grilled veggies and lobster sauce. All very good and filling. And I absolutely loved their dressing, Caesar and Aioli - it is homemade, and totally amazing, and they were nice enough to let me buy some to take home.
I took one star off because: 1) all entrees come with salad, and our server somehow managed to forget it, so we had to ask... and he brought them out when we were almost done with the entrees; 2) salads (lettuce with some shredded carrots, a couple of cherry tomatoes, olives, and cucumber slices) were obviously pre-made and sat out there for a while - carrots were dry and lettuce wilted.
I would go again if I were in the area.
I have been here many times and also brought my folks when they are in town visiting us. My parents absolutely love this place. They like the food, the drinks, the ambiance..just everything. It's a very casual, laid back kind of place with very good food, nothing fancy.
On our most recent trip, we sat in the corner by the window which was nice and away from all of the other tables...although it can be a pretty loud place. We started off with a couple appetizers, a fried goat cheese salad, calamari and clams. All were very good. For our main course, my husband had the Penne Rustica special, and I usually either get the buffalo chicken sandwich of their Wrap of the Day, that night it was the Wrap which was a fish (Cod) wrap with cole slaw and veggies, so good. For dessert we got the Bread Pudding and the Rice Pudding.
The only negative thing I have to say about "reefer" as I like to call it, was that one time when I went about a year ago, I was on crutches, I'm 26 years old and I was with my parents. I left my wallet in the car since I couldn't carry that and walk with my crutches. I ordered a Narragansett Beer, not a Bud Light, not a Corona...not a crap beer, a decent beer and the guy refused to serve me without my ID even with my parents sitting there with me. C'mon dude....really? I was so pissed and I refused to order, so he lost my business.
Nice place with extremely friendly staff. The food is American-style but with a fancy twist--the lobster burger for example, or the grilled salmon with zucchini and lentils as a side. Everything is good. One warning, they do skimp on some of the dishes. The Carribean shrimp is four large-ish shrimp with a lot of arugala for $11. But those pitfalls are few and far between.
