Decided to give them another shot. But unfortunately this place lacks customer service big time. Â Wifey and I stop for a bite to eat and see the end of the game. If your going to serve food then your customer service needs to be on point. I don't go to place because the staff is wearing booty shorts and low cut tops. Its disgusting and degrading. Have more self respect. I want great customer service. I shouldn't have to wait 15 mins for someone to acknowledge that we are there and get some menus. Â I could go in and order from a another business and eat there and nobody would know or say anything because they don't pay attention. Â This place should just be strictly a bar and quit with the food. Drunks could care less about customer service. Â Or stop being cheap and staff more people.Terrible!!!!!
Review Source:Rookies is a great sports bar and restaurant. The TV's are huge, crisp, and everywhere. The restaurant is always clean, and in a sports bar that's hard to do. The service is decent, even better if you know the servers or bar tenders, so get to know them well :) Â Their food is good but complicated. Some items like their Fried Jalapenos, Southwestern Chipotle Wrap, Tri-tip sandwich, or Pizzas are fracking delicious. While others are a complete let down. Consistency is key, and I would say the same for their drinks. Some bar tenders make the most amazing margaritas, while others are just wrong. Some over pour and some are PERFECT. Its just a training issue that can easily be fixed. Overall, its a great place to eat, drink, and be merry with friends and I'm so glad it's downtown.
Review Source:This place is terrible! The only thing great about it is the urinal in the mens restroom; it worked and did what it was supposed to do. Everything else, no good.
Ok I take that back, the AV system was pretty good...plenty of TVs and good sound system. And there was one cute girl working there too.
The food...bad. The service...even worse.
I stopped as i drove thru from So CA looking for a decent beer and dinner. The service was terribly slow. The guy seemed like he hated working there. He appeared bothered when we ask for some help. He hardly came around. And when he did he got the orders wrong...beer order and food.
It was Monday Night and a bit busy I supposed. But that doesn't mean your service should take a dive.
Oh and the food... Awful. I know it's a sports bar and because of that the menu expectations should be low. I ordered the grilled chicken plate trying to be somewhat healthy. They brought out fried chicken the first time. Eventually they got it right. But came out way overcooked and a way too dry. The piece of crap silverware they give you could hardly cut thru it. Â Worst part is I paid seventeen bones for it!.... 17 for something that taste like a*s. it was the most expensive thing on their menu. I suppose I would have been safe with nachos or other traditional bar food items.
Im generally a good tipper but last night...I tipped the guy 3 bones on a forty eight dollar tab. C'mon...even the beer they brought out for my coworker was flat ( the first time).
Overall.... Bad.
This place deserves a bit more credit than it currently has. The place is clean and fairly modern looking. The wife and I got the BLT and Babe Ruth sliders which were surprisingly tasty. The fries that were included with the BLT were extra crunchy, similar in style to Burger Kings.
We were there for the week 2 Redskins v. Rams game and the place was full of enthusiastic NFL fans. We were able to easily wrestle a TV away from some Cowboys fans thanks to our waitress.
The service was at worst average. Nothing amazingly amazing, but it was more than attentive even if it was borderline ditzy. I didn't have to wait exceptionally long for our first round to arrive and subsequent check-ins were right on time.
The beer selection is decent and the prices are way cheaper than what I'm used to paying on the East Coast ($5.50 for a huge Lagunitas IPA)
While I'm sure they had their issues when first opening, I saw nothing that warranted the 2.5 star rating Rookies currently has.
If you can't find your favorite NFL team on the boob tube, you can't go wrong with trying this place out.
I give this place 4 stars mainly to reflect a fairly decent establishment as well as to slightly offset its current poor rating.
Very poor service. My friends and I tried to leave after waiting close to 30 min for one drink. We left in the back where there were exit signs. Before we left a bouncer on the inside said we could exit without incident. As soon as we opened the back door another bouncer pushed us back and yelled "you cannot leave here". After saying he was head bouncer and that his decision superceded any others we had to return to the bar. After kicking us back into the poor establishment, we wanted to leave. He then ran to the front entrance and warned the front bouncers that we were trouble. We were probably the most docile bunch in the club and did not wish to cause a scene. He did not use any of his cerebral cortex or higher function of decision making when he physically pushed us back into the bar area while being rude and not giving sufficient reason for his decision...will not return and do not recommend this place to anyone.
Review Source:looks like they got the word on service. Â busy friday nite, greeted at the door, found some seats and server was on us in moments, some great drinks served within a couple minutes.
atmosphere is upscale sports bar, airy, roomy, really like the seating options from bar height table to regular tables and placed far enough apart for some privacy but close enough to not feel isolated. Â
full bar, a few house speciality drinks, extensive beer menu.
menu had a lot of options. Â had a personal size pizza, (two toppings $6), pretty quick and very tasty. served piping hot. Â waitress was near enough for checking in and additional drink orders but was not a pain by stopping by every five minutes.
comfortable place, quick service, happy looking patrons....
I have eaten-in here twice, and once to-go.
When eating-in the service was a bit slow both times, but the place was hoppin' so I didn't get bent out of shape.
The time I order for pick up the food was waiting for me.
In all three cases the food was delicious. I love the pulled port and tri-tip sandwiches.
I'll be back!
We were hesitant about going to Rookies based on the prior yelps, but figured that they have been open for a few months now, so maybe they have worked out their kinks by now... I still think they need to work on some things, but I wasn't horribly disappointed either.
It wasn't great, but wasn't horrible. The menu had good options and a lot of variety for a sports bar, and our service was good. Our server was very polite and friendly, and knowing that we were waiting for a while to see a movie gave us our space while still being attentive and ready when we needed her at the same time. Kudos to her cause I know that isn't always easy  :)
The food that we tried was pretty good, Â we loved the tri-tip nachos that were smothered with ranch style beans and we also spit the pastrami sandwich. We liked both things, so hopefully other things there are good too.
The only real negative thing for us was the drinks that we ordered from the bar. It was lacking a lot of attention or experience obviously....  The first thing that happened was when we first got there we asked if they had good mojitos, and our server excitedly said that they were the best ever. Then she came back disappointed  to report that they were out of mint. Then we ordered another drink based on her recommendation, and she came back again saying that they were also out of the alcohol to make that drink! I wasn't upset at our server, because I feel like it's the bartenders duty to have everything in stock, and if you are out of something to inform the servers so that they are not put in that situation. Once we ordered drinks, they tasted very watered down and weak. (How someone does that to a long island is beyond me) Gearing up for our movie, we also ordered some bubblegum shots, and I asked to make sure they were chilled, but when we drank them the burn that killed going down my throat made it clear that it was just bubblegum vodka right out of the bottle, not even shaken to get it cold. Later on, we asked for a different kind of shot and politely mentioned to please make sure that it would be cold this time, she was really nice and said she would make sure this time.... but this shot just tasted so watered down, like our drinks did. I mean, how much ice do they use to shake a shot up?? So by the time we walked out to see our movie, we had over an $80 bill, we each had 2 drinks and 2 shots each and either of us even had a buzz.
Rookies will be a great place to go watch football with friends, all the big screen tv's are really nice. The atmosphere is great and we loved all of the sports memorabilia. But sadly, since their drinks suck, I will make sure to bring a flask with me next time if I want to get a real buzz because I am not going to rack up an outrageous bar tab on weak drinks.
They should also get a website that has their menu. They have been open long enough to get that done by now.
Good news first...pretty good hot pastrami sandwich and decent beer selection.
Bad news...horrible service. Wondering if any of these people have been trained and qualified to work in a restaurant. Went on a Sunday afternoon. There were about 10 tables, 2 bartenders, 2 bussers, and at least 3 servers. This is more than enough staff to provide service. Had to ask for silverware and napkins, refills, and I'm still waiting on that water I ordered three times.
