I'm guilty of judging a book by it's cover, back when the place 1st opened, I almost pulled out of the parking lot as quickly as I pulled in.  Could this really be it, I though?  I pondered whether I should go in or not, because the building looked pretty sketchy on the outside.  Ah what the hell, I though, let's just go in and see.

So glad I took a chance, the interior is just my kind of place.  Trendy, modern, warm tones, spacious...it's awesome.  The woman who was pouring the beer that day was a delight to interact with and I was really impressed with their beer.  Gwen Du...that stuff rocks!  Now that the front is spiffed up, it's the real deal.

I really like the atmosphere of this place and the beer is good.  The tasting room is spacious and has a stage for local musicians to serenade Zootown beer drinkers...every time I go here, it's packed.  Although it is consistently busy, the girls working the taps are quick, nice and efficient.

Kind Swine has opened a mobile truck right outside for those with a food craving :)

Definitely stepping up their game and giving the other breweries in town a run for their money! I might even give Draught Works the edge on atmosphere and service, but Kettlehouse and Big Sky still win on the brews themselves. The beers here have been getting consistently better though, and I will be happy to keep coming back to support their efforts.

This place is legit! Great atmosphere, huge inside with a hunting cabin feel minus the taxidermy. Real spacious outdoor space with heaters in the winter. The service is outstanding, super friendly and fast at the tap. I enjoy their dark dark beers like the 1910 Smoked Porter and the Last Rights Mexican Chocolate Porter or the Vanilla Bean Stout, they always have something new, dark and high on the alcohol content. You're encourage to try as many free samples as you'd like until you find that one beer you've just gotta get a few pints of. Snacks are plentiful I usually mow the gardetto's but want to venture into their spiced cheese curds, hmm sounds good. Too bad there's no pool table but they do have darts. Many public events are held here and live music too. Great spot, I'm bought to go down there now!

Sometimes life in Missoula can feel like the lyrics to a Sheryl Crow song.

Case in point: drinking beer at noon on a Tuesday at Draught Works Brewery, just me and the bartendress, and a $4 pint of Chain Reaction Fresh Hop Pale Ale. The music echoes in the cavernous interior; I read a few chapters from Pam Houston's latest novel, Contents May Have Shifted, and for 20 minutes or so, time slips away.

The beer gradually recedes. My mind settles down, my pulse slows, and then I realize: this is *not* a normal place, this place they call Missoula. Here, people pick hops from their fields and within 24 hours it's brewing in a downtown beer works (once a dairy barn), which is across the street from an Asian wood furnishings import store, and next to a rock climbing gym (Freestone). And the hops were transported 50 miles from Corvallis *by teams of cyclists* who raced them home. hence the name, "Chain Reaction." Cool, in a weirdly obsessive sort of way.

Here, you can eat empanadas for lunch made with local pork sausage from Whitefish, and one with goat cheese and organic beets, then you can head down the street to snag a fresh pint, and you can still be back at work before your lunch break ends. If you walk real fast.

And nobody will think it is even a little bit odd that a lone stranger steps into an empty bar at 1 minute past 12 pm, asks for a fresh hopped pale ale, and then pulls a book out of his Patagonia shoulder bag before starting to read. (Take that, Cheryl! Maybe your next album should be called "1200 miles to Missoula" ...)

Draught Works, Missoula MT: Keeping it hop - but in a weird way - one pint at a time.

If you just want a beer and no food, this is a great place to stop by. It's got great atmosphere and friendly staff.

The most impressive thing about this place is the atmosphere.  An old dairy barn recently renovated into a brew pub, absolutely gorgeous.  Beer continues to improve by leaps and bounds.  At first I wasn't greatly impressed, but now, I'm quite a fan.

Great beer and friendly staff. The Gwin Du stout is my personal favorite. They also have homemade rootbeer. There is usually a local food truck outside if you're hungry, plus to my knowledge they're the only brewery in town that is open on Sunday's.

Draught Works focuses on exactly what they should be focusing on... the beer experience.  Each beer has been uniquely crafted and cleverly marketed.  On my visit, brewers from other establishments were there embracing the newest brewery family member.  What better testament to Draught Works long-term success than that?  All the beers are great but the IPA with its hoppy taste and light color and the Czech Pils stand out and can compete with any of the much more established breweries.  I look forward to my next visit.

Great new brewery in Missoula! It was pretty busy for their grand opening and I expect it to be busy a lot of the time with all the thirsty Missoulians that are going to frequent it. It is also (conveniently) located next to the new climbing gym so I expect a lot of the climbers to end up here too. As of this writing, they have 5 beers on tap and my personal favorite was the Stout!
