This is our favorite Irish-American place in the area. Â They have a nice selection of beers and know how to pour them. Â If you want to go beyond beer, ask for the whisky list. Order the Irish-like food. Â It's good comfort food presented in a more modern way. Â Try a botoxy, bangers, stew or the fish and chips. Â I recommend going when they have live entertainment if you don't mind a bit of noise. Â
They are easy to get to right off the highway and have ample parking, even when packed. Â Reservations are a good idea during busy times. Â Be aware that the service here is variable and sometimes disorganized. Â Sometimes you walk in and it is a short wait before anyone comes to the front to seat you. Â Sometimes you get speedy service at the table, sometimes there are glitches. Â Sometimes the bar is fast, sometimes slower but never way too slow. Â Always however, the service is polite and accommodating. Â I enjoy the whole experience of this place and that is why I give it five instead of four stars.
Stopped by here tonight, and it wasn't terrible, but it could definitely have been better. it was VERY LOUD, despite what the reviews say, my party couldn't hear each other speaking, and we're not the quietest people.
Service - The waitress didn't take too long to get to our table, but long enough that we already knew what we wanted and she was caught off guard. Our table wasn't set when we sat down, and we eventually had to ask for silverware (after our food came out). We also had to ask for drink refills, she wasn't paying overmuch attention to our table.
Food - My friends had eaten here before. One of them got the fish and chips, which he had enjoyed previously, but he stated that if he'd gotten served the fish and chips he got tonight he wouldn't have ordered it again. So consistency might be an issue if you're looking at fish & chips. Last time he ordered it he loved it. Â My other friend got the bangers and mash, which was quite good, and we'd recommend. I ordered the corned beef and cabbage. I would not recommend it. The corned beef is served shredded, which is not something I'd experienced before, and I didn't enjoy. My meal was also drenched in the mustard sauce, if you're going to order it I'd recommend you get the sauce on the side, if you're even the slightest bit wary of it. If you are used to and enjoy shredded corned beef and you want to OD on mustard you'd like their plate.
Other - Their beer menu was out of date, I was disappointed to find they no longer serve Blue Moon (it's still on their menu). The waitress recommended Hoegaarden as a substitute. I took a risk and tried it, but found it not to my tastes. In addition, their happy hour and events section is confusing. Happy hour is from 4-7 and encompasses the specials listed under happy hour (they're the same every night). The nightly specials (like $3 pints on Tuesday) are NOT applicable during happy hour. I'd misunderstood and thought they were the happy hour variations for the night.
I probably wouldn't come back here. While I'd enjoy the bangers and mash, the service didn't wow me, it was loud, and I felt my meal was a bit overpriced for the serving.
I stopped in here on Monday for lunch with two coworkers. It was slow and the employees were friendly. You just have to love the older Irish guy who I am assuming is the owner. He is super cheerful and really makes you feel welcome to the point where you almost want to give the guy a hug.
I ordered the crab cake sandwich with a side salad. There was a lot of actual crab in my sandwich and it was topped with onions and a siracha cole slaw that was a little spicy and very tasty and served on a huge toasted bun. I wish I would have ordered french fries like a coworker did. These french fries are the real deal and you can actually see and taste the potatoes. Anyone who appreciates big thick fries will love these fries. The servings are all on the larger side. My other coworker got the Cobb Salad. I was thinking that this isn't the place to order a salad but I was wrong- the salad was huge and filled with too many ingredients for me to name and looked awesome. We all cleared our plates and left very full after a good lunch.
Irish pubs are usually not my first choice when it comes to dining out but this is one of the best Irish pubs I have been to.
We have stopped by here a couple times, based mainly on the rave reviews here on Yelp. Overall, I like this place, but was underwhelmed by the food.
The atmosphere and the beer selection here is great. They have a large liquor list, including beers, wines, and mixed drinks. They have just changed the menu (on the night we were there) and were having a tasting for the staff.
I would describe the menu more as comfort food with some traditional Irish dishes. I was really looking forward to the chicken boxty after the raves I read and it was good, just not to my taste. I found it a little bland, but that may be my southern taste buds craving spice. The SO had the turkey meatloaf, which he LOVED. Probably he loved it because I don't make meatloaf for him very often. I enjoyed the seasonal vegetables side dish.
To wrap things up, I would have rated this place higher if my meal had met my expectations set by the atmosphere and drinks. I still like this place, I just need to try ordering something spicier the next time.
My first trip to Dubh Linn Square left me skeptical, but after traveling to Ireland last year, and visiting some "authentic" Irish pubs, I've come to appreciate just how great the Square really is. Their menu is a cut above what you'd expect from a bar & grill. The fish and chips are about the best that I've had this side of the Atlantic. Dub Square's beer menu is becoming very respectable, with a great selection of UK favorites on draft, as well as a rotation of local and regional microbrews that continue to satisfy even a jaded craft beer drinker, like myself.
When I first tried Dub Square I was critical of the atmosphere. I think I called it a Disneyland version of an Irish Pub. Having now been to Ireland and drinking in some of the most famous, and oldest pubs on the emerald isle, I can say without hesitation, that Dubh Linn Square nailed it. They've created a presentation that pays homage to the look and feel of a classic, country pub, without being a parody. Dub Square is fresh, ambitious, and hopeful, while most of the pubs I drank in, in Ireland, were worn, sad, and seemed exhausted by the tradition they were trying to still sell. Most pubs outside of Dublin have given up and converted to a more modern European style that feels like a TGI Friday's bar. Not what I was hoping for, or expecting.
My trip to Ireland made me miss Dubh Linn Square, where the bar staff can pour Guinness correctly, and everyone knows my name. What else could you ask for from a pub?
Wanted to love it, I really really did however it fell a bit short. Â
The space is gigantic. They have two separate parking lots for when it gets crowded and also two floors each with bars and plenty of seating and space. Â
We were a very large group and when you have a large party things tend to get missed. Â People were never asked about refills on drinks, side dishes were incorrect, and certain menu items were not available. Â Overall the food was ok. Â Pretty under seasoned and uninspired. Typical Irish pub fare. Â They did have some pretty dope and homemade appetizers. Â
Service was very scattered and borderline unattentive. Â I would go back for drinks but not for dinner.
In honor of my favorite holiday, here's my review of one of my all time favorite NJ Irish pubs. We were regulars here, and since this was way before my Yelp days, I owe them a review.
Dubh linn was always amazing. Right in the heart of Bordentown, which was right up the street from my house, is amazing. It's a true Irish style pub.
Their menu is all Irish, and they have THEEE best St. Patrick's day celebration. The last time I was there was Saint Pats of 2011.
Their annual celebration starts in the wee hours of the Irish morning, I think we showed up at 10AM -- Yikes! But go BIG or go home! They have live music, all kinds of drinking games, everything an Irish (or honorary Irish) could pack into one restaurant.
My favorite app was always their Irish Stuffed Potatoes. Stuffed with
Cheddar Jack Cheese, Bacon, Scallions, and Sour cream on top.
I've tried almost all of their entrees and they are all good but their "Ham and Brie Sandwichk" is my favorite. I love bree and their guiness mustard is so unique-- it's a must try.
I should mention my Irish traditional favorites-- Corned beef & cabbage, Guiness meatloaf and their bangers and mash are all outstanding.
They have about 20 different craft beers on tap =-)
Their prices are perfect for a casual pub in NJ, and their servers are all fun young and friendly.
.
Well there are several factors for me giving this establishment only three stars. Â Funny, there was STILL no soap or paper towels in the rest rooms but being in food service myself I know the kitchens are equipped with hand sinks so................ Â My party had different beers and I of course had Guiness...Perfect. Â The food well someone had corned beef and cabbage and loved it. Â My son had beef stew and said it was very good. Several tried the Shepard's Pie and it too was above average. Â I had the fish and chips. Â Here was the trip up. Â The fish was way over cooked. Â It also had a prominent fishy odor. Â I could not eat more then a few bits. Â The fries were good and the spicy cole slaw was excellent. Â Over all I think they deserve another shot.
Review Source:My husband and I passed this place for years after always going to Chickie & Pete's. Bare with me, but I had such an incredible experience at this place, I really have to share it all!
After reading the reviews on how packed this place is, I decided to make a reservation using Open Table. It was a good idea, so I suggest you do the same.
We arrived and it had rained a lot the day before. The parking lot was totally full, but they have overflow. It was a bit muddy, but that's not their fault, and we have a Jeep, so no big deal. The outside of this place is incredible. Guinness paintings all over the exterior, it just lets out a huge Irish feel.
We were a bit early for our reservation, but figured we could sit at the bar and have some drinks before dinner. Well, the hostess said we could do what we wanted but they would be happy to seat us early. The downstairs was packed, but our hostess walked us upstairs. They had a DJ playing music (and it wasn't overbearing and loud, either!), and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.
Upstairs there was a second bar, and more beautiful Irish décor. Dark wood throughout, really looks like an authentic Irish pub. (I went to Ireland and did an all-night pub crawl in Killarney. Trust me on this.) The place was very clean & well kept.
Our waitress came over and asked if it was our first time. We said yes, and I told her I had read the Yelp reviews and planned on the Whiskey Chicken Boxty. She agreed that it was the best thing on their menu, and also informed us that if we bought an appetizer that we would automatically be entered in their drawing that night for a $200 gift card to the restaurant. I thought this was really cool, as I have never been to a place that had done anything like that-and I eat out a lot!
We ordered the mussels and clams and they were to DIE for. Really fresh tasting and the sauce was so nice and not overwhelming. My husband ordered the steak and I TRULY enjoyed my chicken. Thank you to the other yelpers for that, because I will get it every time now!
After dinner, our waitress made sure we had enough to drink, and actually gave us about 15 minutes to just chat. She NEVER made us feel rushed, and you could tell she wanted us to have a nice time. We opted not to get dessert because we had other plans for the night, but our waitress came over with a Dubh Linn Square pint glass with a $5 gift card that said "For being First-Timas!! Come back soon!" Let me tell you, at this point I was floored by the service and hospitality!
I have read a lot of the reviews, and if you think you are going to get TRUE irish food, you won't. You are getting Irish-American, but it's VERY good food and unique dishes. If you want to complain that it's not authentic enough, go to Ireland. It's also Bordentown-there are a lot of sports bars and chain restaurants in the area, so be glad that this place is here to offer the variety the area desperately needs.
I don't think I have to say it, but I will-this place is incredible, the food was phenomenal, the service was stellar and I can't even wait to go back. The prices weren't even bad, we paid about $70 for my husband and myself, but that includes a very big tip for our waitress that she absolutely deserved.
You won't be disappointed. JUST GO!
This place is awesome, my husband and I are regulars, love the food, and bartenders/servers, and especially the beer. Â They always have different selections and it gives us a chance to flex our beer muscles and try new things. Â Everyone there is so friendly and nice, they always remember if you have a special drink you like or a certain beer. Â Overall, my new place to go to since moving this way.
Review Source:I liked the live music and my Irish beer. (They have a small beer selection) That was about it. My waitress was nonexistent. I was very excited about getting the corned-beef and cabbage, one of my favs, but was utterly disappointed. I got half a head of cabbage and corned beef that tasted like jerky, that was way too salty. And here's the real fun part, my husband and I got food poisoning! Needless to say we won't be going back! Â I'll give it two stars for the music and decor. Way to loud though/cramped. Go on a weekday.
Review Source:So yesterday my wife and I dropped the kids at school, went out, and stopped here for a quick bite to eat at lunch time. Â This place has been open for a number of years now and we have heard good things, but had never stopped in.
Its your typical pub... sticky floor, huge beer selection and very good food. Â We definitely enjoyed it and plan to go back for more. Â My wife had a simple salad and loved it. Â I went for a burger and it was very, very good. Â Looking forward to the return visit.
Dubh Linn Square has been a go to spot for me since it opened. Â Whether it's to meet up with friends or a first date, I always have a good time. Â My friend and I often meet up for Pub Quiz and while we stink, we keep going back. Â
Whether I go with a beer or my go to Captain and Diet, the drinks are great. Â I don't often eat here but when I do it's always delicious. Â My favorites are quesadillas with irish bacon, spicy potatoes, and the Rasher and Cheese Boxty. Â I've also had the salmon boxty, another hit! Â
The bartenders and wait staff are always friendly and accommodating. Â It can get loud but I believe that adds to the atmosphere.
This is probably as good as it gets in the area food-wise for a place that's a bar first and foremost. I've gone to this place several times and many of them I didn't down a single drink. And I left HAPPY. My faves? The chicken cheese steak and BBQ pulled pork sandwiches are surprising good. My wifie enjoyed the fish n chips (it IS a Pub after all) and we've both enjoyed the large portions sure to fill you up.
Oh sorry! Wait! I know for myself when someone tells me...
"Yo man. You gotta go to (insert crappy resteraunt here)."
"Oh really? They pretty good?"
"Yeah. They give huge portions!"
"Yeah but is the food any good?"
"Huh?"
"The food. Is it good?"
"Dude they got huge portions."
HUGE PORTIONS does NOT a good restraunt make. As a matter of fact if someone's first words about a place are huge portions to me that's code for gigantic pile of fecal matter.
I digress. What I mean is the food is bangin AND they hook you up. Best of both.
Loud rambunctious ambiance. A fun place where the staff takes their jobs seriously but not at expense of being friendly, keeping the place lively and fun. There's even a quiet corner or two for those that want to keep to themselves. It's just a nice cool place to be hidden in plain sight.
It ain't fine dining but were you really expecting that from a place like this? If you do you're dumb. Go there. Eat. Drink. Enjoy. Recommend.
You say Dubh Linn. Â I say Dublin. Â It's all Irish to me!
Countless great memories were made here. Â Upstairs, downstairs, outside-- it's all exceptional. Â There's so much goodness to talk about that it's difficult to know where to start.
Let's begin with the most critical-- beer. Â Oh for heaven's sake, the beer is exquisite. Â I won't fault them for no longer carrying my all-time fav, Old Speckled Hen, which, BTW, cannot be found at just any old bar; there are only two I know of in NJ (damn shame). Â The reason I'm ok with this is because they are constantly introducing me to new, obscure brews that delight my beer buds. Â Just today I tried a Unibroue La Fin du Monde-- a tripel at about 9ABV-- and a true "End of the World" beer it is. Â Two in, and I knew going back to the office would be a small problem. Â Whoever said Canada was good for nothing was clearly mistaken.
While the beer Dublin or Dubh Linn Square serves is extraordinarily high on my list of reasons to love this place, the food is a close second. Â EVERYTHING is GREAT. Â Yeah, I'm gonna be THAT generous with my appreciation. Â Their True Irish Fare menu is just that, and it's mouth-watering. Â You must have the Guinness Meatloaf at least once. Â Then try the Guinness Beef Stew. Â Ok, then do a Boxty dish-- whichever; doesn't matter because they're all interesting. Â If you're there for lunch, try the chalkboard special. Â It's cheap, creative and just enough to hold you over till dinner.
I'm always so stunned at the bartenders/servers here because they always remember the BF and me, and couldn't be more attentive. Â We always have great conversation with all of them, and sometimes I feel like a dude might feel about a stripper-- these people really like me!!! Â More tips for you!
The layout of both up and downstairs bars is very comfortable. Â Tons of space butting up to TVs that always have some athletic entertainment for your viewing pleasure. Â Darts upstairs by the couches so you can test your sobriety when you're good and ready.
DS always has something going on, whether it be Military Mondays (10% discount), bands or trivia. Â And DON'T FORGET to check on it come St Patty's Day. Â Tip: get there mad early or you're SOL. Â In fact, plan your entire day around it because it's that awesome. Â
I might apply for a job here...
I love Wednesday night Pub Quizzes! Although I never come close to winning or placing anywhere near the top contenders I always have a good time.. and learn a few things while I'm there! A great place to hang out with friends, have a drink, eat some food, and learn some random nerd trivia.. then be amazed at how much random information people know and you don't haha.
I wasn't a fan of the calamari, not that great. The onion rings are amazing. Love those. Salad with a dressing I can not remember and I'm sad that I can't because it's awesome.. it's almost like balsamic vinaigrette but it's not. If you're looking for a good side, like I said onion rings!!!
Great place to hang out on a Wednesday night.
Best pub in the area with both a downstairs and upstairs bar. Great rotating beer selections and Happy Hour specials. Not an extensive menu, but very good food selection for both lunch (Military Monday) and dinner, including the Guinness Meatloaf and Beef Stew. Â If you're craving an appetizer, the Chicken Nachos are delicious and the wings and onion rings are also very good. Relaxing atmosphere, cool bartenders and a fun time, especially on St. Patty's Day with beer specials and Irish music in the outdoor tent.
Review Source:I gotta thank all of the quick tip people for suggesting the Whiskey Chicken Boxty. Â It was incredible, sweet, salty, creamy - the flavors blended perfectly together. Â This place was exactly as I expected a (state-side) Irish restaurant/pub to be. Â With TV in the corner showing sports, a bunch of regulars at the bar, loud, delicious fried foods, and good beer. Â
That being said, I've got a new beer to keep an eye out for Weyerbachers Merry Monks. Â Also, the waitress treated us well and even gave us a couple coupons for next time since they were out of a few of the appetizers.
A cool place with excellent food, a nice friendly barkeep, great beer selection and Irish music playing.
I had excellent Fish and Chips and Keith had the 'Bangers'. Both were tasty!
But this is NOT an authentic Irish Pub. To be that you have to either be in Ireland or have to have been an Irish Pub for many, many years, preferably not in a strip mall or as this bar is, along side a highway, but rather in a neighborhood where people WALK to the pub. But this is a good facsimile of an Irish Pub, down to the decor, the Guinness on tap and the aforesaid Irish bagpipes playing while you dine or just drink,
Three words:
Whiskey. Chicken. Boxtie. A boxtie is kind of like a potato crepe. And this is YUMMY.
I would rate it higher if it wasn't so damn loud. If you're headed that way, I suggest an off time, when the bartender has some time to spend chatting you up and you can appreciate the authentic decor.
I just had an opportunity to visit Dublin Square, and boy was it worth it!
Dublin Square features two levels. Â Monday Night Football consumed the upper level this evening, and, although I was interested, I was more interested in scoping out more of the pub without such a distraction.
The lower level is quaint with a rustic flair. Â Customary period Irish and English pub relics adorn the walls, and the theme is carried outside with some rather thick faux wall work, including a humorous depiction of a worker precariously perched atop unstable kegs.
Back inside, the wait staff sported jerseys in honor of the MNF event, and were very responsive and attentive. Â (Grade A staff this night.)
The Guinness was fresh and frothy, but the best surprise of the evening was the delicious food! Â I enjoyed a Salmon Boxty that was not so much a boxty as it was a crepe, with a creamy, slightly sweet potato-based sauce filling (with a touch of nutmeg?). Â
This was a delightful surprise, and not just because a boxty (an Irish potato pancake whose name comes from a Gaelic phrase for "poor house bread") is generally so much, uh, "simpler", but because you could see that Dublin Square is not afraid to rework traditional dishes into amazing treats!
I definitely look forward to returning to Dublin Square!!!
Best bar in the area, HANDS DOWN!! Â I have been frequenting this place every since it opened up. Â Great beer selection and even better food. Â They offer lot from good happy hour specials to cool events like quiz night and a huge St Patty's day celebration. Â The food excellent bar fare. Â I've had a number of items and have yet to be disappointed. Â It can get a little busy but that's expected with a really good bar.
Review Source:This is a wonderful bar with a great, friendly staff! Â The food is excellent as well - my favorite is the Spicy Potato appetizer and the Brown Bread ice cream for dessert!
My friends and I go almost every Tuesday for the weekly cash drawing and the wait staff and bartenders remember us and are always amazing!
I've been here twice, once purely for drinking and (this time) for eating. We started with the spicy potatoes. Little new potatoes coated with buffalo sauce, sprinkled with bleu cheese crumbles and served with ranch and celery sticks. Yum! The potato skin was crispy and the bleu cheese really rounded out the taste. I look forward to trying wings next time ... the buffalo sauce was great.
For lunch I got the caesar salad with salmon and the boy got the steak salad. It's hard to judge a restaurant by salad alone but what we got was great. My salmon filet was huge and well seasoned. My only complaint was the lettuce must have JUST been pulled out of the fridge. It was so cold there were little ice crystals sprinkled here and there. I tried to eat the lettuce close to the salmon filet figuring the heat from the freshly cooked fish would have melted at least those leaves in the vicinity.
The steak salad looked good, but again, salad is salad. We also got the peanut butter nutella brownie because I couldn't leave the premises without trying it. It was more cake-like then I would have liked (I prefer fudgey brownies) but the flavor was still rich and delicious. I think I'm going to throw those two ingredients in the next (boxed) batch of brownies I make ...
I would definitely return to Dublin Square to try dishes that were a little more significant. The atmosphere is great, enhanced even further when the man with the guitar started strumming authenthic Irish music. An odd background to the Phillies game we were watching but in Dublin Square, somehow it fit.
Quite an authentic Irish Pub. Started with one of the best Quesadilla appetizers I've had. Thick cheddar with tomatoes, onions, and peppers with a sundried tomato wrap. Also had their Fried Mac & Cheese which is quite different and tasty. For dinner had the Bangers and Penne which was in a white wine & parmesan sauce over penne pasta with Irish sausage, asparagus and spinach. Great specialty beers on draught as well including some high ABV ales.
Review Source:Authentic Irish? Â Are you kidding? Â This is like a TGIFriday's of Irish pubs complete with very carefully selected kitsch all over the walls. Â The food is certainly good, fairly priced, and the service is great. Â I had a shepherd's pie that was very tasty, but far from very authentic. Â The mashed potatoes were just smeared on and not crisped, and the ground beef and lamb was just standard. Â Other things on the menu that give away the fake Irish...Banger won tons and corned beef tacos.
I was initially excited when I saw a cask, hand-pumped tap and started dreaming of a brilliant porter or stout, however the bartender quickly crushed my hopes by explaining it was just for looks. Â Their beer selections were ok, about 8 different beers, but not great. Â Just because you serve Guinness and Smithwicks, doesn't make you Irish. Â Not a person in the entire place had even a hint of an accent and, thankfully, no one tried to fake it either.
If you go here, go for the good food, fun atmosphere, reasonable prices, and warm service, not for the Irish.
Dublin Square is extremely authentic. I'm glad to see less places like Bennigan's around and more traditional pubs like this. The bar is well-stocked and the decor is unabashedly Irish--without the plastic Paddy nonsense.
This is an ideal place for a private meal or to watch a sports game. The owners and staff seem really engaged, constantly providing new forms of entertainment and promoting new specials. By all means, please skip the chain restaurant and head to Dublin Square!
I've never been to an Irish or Irish American pub but I do like beer and conversation. Â The Dublin Square in Bordentown, NJ appears to draw a crowd even on a Tuesday night. Â I met up with friendly social media geeks from around the area for fun, trivia, scintillating conversation and beer. Â Good selection of beer and typical Irish pub fare. Â I did not eat but two of my conversationalist, Elizabeth and David were enjoying fish n' chip and bangers n' mash. Â We were a large group (almost 20) and the bar was crowded but the owner took the time to come out and chat with us about his vision for the bar.
I'll be back.
Now, this is an irish pub. Â From the food menu to the beer menu, I LOVE this place. Â The staff is friendly and works fast. Â If youre sitting at the bar, you don't have to wait for a drink. Â If you sit at a table, the wait staff is nice. Â There is always a good crowd but nothing too overwhelming. Â I like that they have trivia night on wednesdays and irish bands on the weekends. Â The food is amazing. Â The appetizers are delicious, my favorite being the spicy potato app. Â The dinners are great, my favorite being the whiskey chicken boxty.. not sure if i'm spelling these things correctly, but i actually drove there one day to get one because i was craving it it's so good! Â They just have good irish food and some regular stuff, all delicious.
Review Source:'I'm not irish, but kiss me anyway' Â .. this place is actually pretty fun. I'm not a big beer girl, but from what I hear from those who are, this place hits the spot. It's always very lively inside, but not overwhelmingly noisy. They have live entertainment on the weekends and fun draw-ins during the week.
Happy Hour = 4-6pm
I'm not sure what Irish food is supposed to taste like and I have not lived off of it my whole life. This may explain why I'm not going monkeys over the food. But the menu is incredibly compelling. Typical stuff like sandwiches and wings .. but also real irish fare such as boxtys and corned beef dishes.
AWESOME SHEPHERD'S PIE !! And surprisingly .. AWESOME DESSERT MENU !! (Nutella brownie, anyone?)
Kids eat for $1.00 on monday nights - view their website for other offers for everyday of the week.
What makes this place so unique is that everything is imported from the motherland. Not only is everything imported, but the work in the building was all done by local Irish tradesmen. Pretty cool, huh?
I flew out to see my hubby who was staying in Bordentown for military duty and he took me to dinner here. Â I was a little hesitant at first, but this place is amazing. Â I am really bummed that there is not one over here in Cali! Â We ordered the Irish won-ton things which were fantastic. Â I ordered a turkey sandwich cause I chickened out on the real Irish food, but my hubbys Banger sandwich was to die for.
We were there on July 4th and were wondering why there were no firework stands around. Â Our waitress was really friendly and explained that in NJ it is illegal to sell them, but pointed us to the fireworks show in the next town. Â
I am hoping this gem makes it out to Roseville, CA and soon!
On July 5th, my wife, son, and I had lunch at the Dublin Square Pub on Route 130 N in Bordentown Twp. http://www.dublinsquarep…
My son and I both had the corned beef sandwich. Â It was served with an apple-onion relish, horseradish mayonnaise, and Swiss cheese on grilled rye bread. Â There was a choice of sides and we both had French fries. Â The sandwiches were excellent. Â The corned beef was tender, tasty, and lean. Â The fries were steak cut and also very good.
My wife had the fish and chips and said that it might have been the best she'd ever had. Â The fish was two thick pieces of Atlantic cod in a light beer batter that was neither greasy nor heavy. Â The fries were the same as those served with the sandwiches and just as good.
We all enjoyed the meal very much and definitely will be back. Â I think we'll all be a little more adventurous on our next visit and try some of the more traditional Irish fare. Â The "Boxty" dishes look particularly appealing, as does the Shepherd's Pie.
I can't believe I am lucky enough to live 10 minutes from this amazing Irish pub. Â Be prepared for a crowd & a few minutes wait, every single time we drive by there is a full parking lot (they have overflow parking) but don't let that discourage you at all. Â The place is incredible, the staff attentive, friendly and helpful, and the owner Mike is a genius. Â My husband and I had a question about one of the pieces of art on the wall (most came from Ireland & have a personal history to the owners) and he came over and told us the story. Â Super friendly, and really seemed to know what it takes to develop a good following of loyal customers. Â Peeking over my husband's shoulder I spotted a bartender setting up a Jenga tower for two women at the bar to play with while they drank their beers and chatted, and later on I spotted a Connect Four game being played at a table. Â There is an outdoor patio (the smokers were out there and seemed to be enjoying the nice night) & a good mix of bar seats, high tops, and tables/booths.
It is a pub, and they do serve beer, and lots of it, as well as a good amount of Irish Whiskey, and most other standard bar staples. Â The FOOD!!!! You have to go and eat here even if you don't drink and just want an honest-to-goodness taste of traveling over to Ireland and eating at a local pub.
Appetizer : Curry Chips - Steak cut fries with a large side of their own curry dipping sauce, a bit sweet & a bit spicy but not at all bland. Â My husband and I were dipping every last tiny bit of fries we could find on our plate to sop up the rest of the curry. Â After the very first bite I *knew* I'd be here leaving a review!
Dinner : Corned Beef Boxty - This was my dinner and I honestly wasn't sure what I was going to get but there was no way I wasn't ordering something "Irish". Â A boxty (according to their menu) is basically a stuffed potato pancake. Â Potato pancakes to me are thick and fried in oil and served with sour cream, so I thought it might look like a stuffed knish. Â I was very wrong! Â The dish that was put in front of me looked more like a potato quesadilla, crepe, or omelette. Â It was topped with a 1/4 of a head of cabbage that I am pretty sure was cooked in beer. Â There was a horseradish sauce and tons of melted cheddar cheese inside with the corned beef. Â I would up taking half home because I knew I needed to eat that meal again the next day!
Dinner : Shepard's Pie - Ground beef and lamb made this dish taste amazing. Â This was my husband's dinner, and I only got one bite! Â He had intended to bring half home as well (the portions are generous) but he said it was so good he had to eat the whole thing. Â This is next on my list to try when we go back (next week...)
As for the other foods on the menu, they range from obvious traditional Irish comfort foods, sandwiches & wraps, soups & salads, burgers, and steaks/chops/chicken ... but I guarantee Dublin Square put their own unique flair on the food and doesn't just churn out typical bar grub.
Dublin Square is absolutely a place my husband and I (and our family) will be returning to very frequently, and we plan on spreading the word to as many friends that we can. Â It's not everyday someplace like this comes along & in my opinion kicks the snot out of any chain restaurant or "me-too" Italian/American fare around.
EDIT : A year later and we still LOVE Dublin Square. Â We are there a few times a month, and bring friends whenever we can. Â They have added Taco Tuesdays (pretty good, but kind of strange for an Irish pub!) and trivia on Wednesday's that always has the entire pub joining in. Â Our favorite spot hands down! Â The owner Mike & his staff are amazing!
