If I have visitors in town for only a few hours, this is where I take them!
It is located in thriving downtown in the glorious Blue Dome District so a full day and/or evening can be enjoyed parking centrally in this area. For weekends, be sure to make a reservation for a lane if you desire to bowl... which I highly recommend! From the front door, to the retro carpet, the framed framed photo of Nixon bowling, to the well working vintage arcade games, this place has serious style and gives bowling a beautiful vintage vibe.
When you bowl, I recommend going with another couple of people to split the bill or it can be pricey. Price is depends on how long you occupy a lane and shoe rental is extra. This place stays true to being old school so it doesn't have TV's which keep track of your score. You are given you're own score sheet so be sure to google how to keep score.
Not interested in bowling but want to enjoy a drink? Do it here. Huge wooden tables are around the bar area which accommodates larger groups and they share one of the best back patios in Tulsa with Dilly Deli. This patio is crazy cool with faux grass couches and chairs and other accessories you just have to see for yourself. I promise you'll want to instagram at least 3 photos in this area.
I don't know if it's my Minnesota-en roots that gave me a love for TATER TOTS or what but let me tell you what... this place has the best tots besides my Grandma's kitchen.
When friends recommend going to Dust Bowl for drinks, I'm always a little confused. Â I understand that it's a bowling alley in downtown that offers adult beverages, but I always assumed the adult beverages are just to compliment the bowling, not a stand along activity there. Â
Recently however, I met some friends at Dust Bowl when they suggested we go for drinks only. Â The drinks are good - nothing crazy but they do offer a drink menu and have a nice beer selection. Â The ambiance is lively and, on a Saturday night, filled with tons of people drinking and not bowling. Â I've really enjoyed bowling at Dust Bowl (bowling, beer and tator tots? Â Yes please!) but just going there for as a stop in a night out was pretty fun as well.
A great place for bowling and drinks. I haven't tried the food yet, but the selection of gimmicky bowling alley foods is pretty extensive. After 10pm most nights bowling is half price and the place is almost empty so invite your friends. Weekend evenings it is too packed to move. The DIY score keeping, friendly staff, and white russians are worth a trip. Kids not welcome at night when bar atmosphere kicks in.
Review Source:@DustBowlTulsa, I think I love you. I love how you don't try too hard, but manage to be so cool. I love the throwback feel, the reclaimed bowling lane doors with pins for handles, the weird Barbie dolls. I love your big tables and your back patio. I love tater tots, and your abiding love for the Dude. I love that your servers and bartenders seem to enjoy working there, and aren't too cool for school. Just friendly and fun and good at their jobs.
I love that this almost always ends up on my list of places to hang out when I'm in Tulsa, which means I now have memories of being there with some of my favorite friends. We get caught up over a few frames and a few drinks, and do something a bit more interactive and experiential than merely sitting on a barstool. Invariably, laughter and self-deprecation ensues, and I think you always end up having 72% more fun here than you would at a regular bar.
In short, I think you should set up shop in Oklahoma City. What's that, you are? Well, in that case, let's have a long and happy relationship. Let's grow old together. I'll be the gracefully aging, slightly crazy, borderline-inappropriate-but-funny-enough-to-get away-with-it older lady. A curvier, less crass Cloris Leachman. I'll drink as many Greyhounds as you do White Russians. You can be the eternally handsome, knowing soul. Like if Jeff Bridges were a bowling alley. Does that make sense? Â
Note - I wrote this review at 10:00 in the morning. I have not been drinking. I'm planning my future relationship with a bowling alley and I'm not even a bit tips. That should indicate how serious I am.
Its not the best bowling alley, but it sure is fun. Â Love the decor and staff. Â The food was good too. Â Who doesn't love a menu of tator tots? Â Fried well and TONS of it. Â So don't go in on it alone.
I'd come back.
A bar bowling alley inspired by The Big Lebowski, what is there not to like?
Visits: Once, on vacation recently.
Apps to try: We didn't order appetizers.
Entrees to try: The breakfast tots. I ordered this without gravy because 1. I don't usually like much gravy, and 2. gravy with eggs? Bah. The eggs mixed with tater tots and ham was pretty tasty. Two of us ordered this entree and enjoyed it equally.
Desserts to try: We didn't order dessert.
Service: Above average. There were a ton of people in the building, so the service was pretty good considering that it was packed. The bartender and servers were pretty friendly.
Establishment: Retro. Very cool. The bowling alley is small, only a handful of lanes, but it is setup nicely and has a very cool, hip feel to it, even though it looks like something out of the 70s. There is a private two lane area of the building, which is pretty cool and ideal for a small birthday party. The bar area huge, a nice touch. Three large projection screens with videos, TV, etc, playing on them.
Restroom: Dirty and small. Again, it was packed so maybe that's why it was so dirty.
Parking: Large lot behind the building and street parking in front.
Stay away from: The hot dogs.
Special notes: The lanes don't have computers to track your game(s)...you have to write down all of your scores on a sheet. Weird.
-Not kid-friendly, this is a bar.
-Good for happy hours and going out on the weekends.
-Old-school lanes (no bumpers, need someone to keep score) which are a lot more fun than the kind you'll find other places IMO.
They have a small food menu, which is nothing special, but if you're dying of hunger and don't want to leave your drinking pals, the food will suffice.
Drink prices are a little above-average, but won't break the bank. A lot of my girl friends like the frozen LITs when it's warmer. They can be dangerous.
Sometimes on the weekends they have DJs and it can get pretty packed.
TIPS:
Go out to the back patio to get some fresh air. The door is up a ramp to the left of the bowling lanes. They have some funky couches made of fake grass and matching stools, which are giant springs that you can bounce on.
They have happy hour bowling that is pretty cheap.
I rented the private room for a family get together for my son and sister's birthday and it was the MOST fun. One of the lanes messed up a few times and the food was a little blah, but the waitstaff was helpful and they even cut us a break in the price due to the lane issues. It was definitely worth what we paid for it AND even if they charged us the full price, I would have been happy! I don't know about the regular lanes since this was my only experience, but the private room is a super fun!
Review Source:Went here last night for a group function. Â I've been before and it's a fun little hang out. Â They have food, but nothing special. Â Frozen tater tots that they put toppings on. Â But if you are hungry or want to keep up the "traditional" bowling atmosphere, then by all means order away. Â I'm always tempted to order the party planner which is nothing more than a bunch of frozen appetizers cooked for you and sold at market price.
There are 6 lanes and a private room with two more lanes. Â Bowling here is expensive and unless you are in a group or come on Monday's for half price bowling, it may not be worth it.
Full bar with signature drinks that are great. Â Also nice selection of bottled and can beers. Â The place is great for drinking, especially in the fall and spring as they have a nice outdoor patio that actually connects to the back of the Dilly Deli for even more seating.
As a rule, I usually hate games that I'm bad at. For example, I'm really really bad at the following games and I refuse to play them:
Vollyball
Dodgeball
Marco Polo
Soccer
There's one exception to this rule. There's one game that I am amazingly bad at that I love to play.
Bowling!
Have I ever scored above a 100 in a bowling game? Probably not. I think I scored a 30 once. Bowling is always fun though. It's even MORE fun at places like Dust Bowl, that offer loaded tater tots (HELL YES) and fancy adult beverages. There's more than just shitty beer at this joint.
The interior is very retro, and there's a party room that's isolated from the main bowling alley, which would be good for birthdays/parties/etc. This spot is super fun.
Cool retro/hipster bowling alley. It's an old fashioned style place where you have to keep score yourself on paper. I thought it was a unique touch and it helps newbies understand how the scoring works. Great bar/lounge with interesting food and drink options. The staff is friendly and they play great, eclectic music.
It's kind of a small place, probably no more than 8-10 lanes. We came on a Monday so it wasn't a problem getting a lane, but I can imagine there's probably a wait list on weekends. I recommend coming early or calling ahead. All in all, this is a wonderful spot and I will definitely come back again.
I welcome this addition to Tulsa's Blue Dome District. Â It's a fun alternative to sitting around at a pub on a normal weekend. Â There are 4 public lanes and a private room with two lanes if you're looking to host a mini party. Â I actually haven't tried any of the food, but the pitchers are affordable as well as the bowling. Â I went there with 5 people and the bill came to be around $10 each person including three pitchers. Â The lanes are new and it's a cozy and trendy feel. Â I wouldn't mind sitting at the bar and not bowl either since they have a really nice bar area. Â
Just a note, it's more of a bar with bowling lanes and less of a bowling alley. Â Also, you score yourself. Â If you've never bowled before, bring someone who has a vague idea of how points work, I think it adds to the fun of it. I'm happy downtown has been developing so well, including this addition to the nightlife!
When I visited the Dust Bowl, it was on a private event night (in which I was not an invitee). My group was not able to get a lane due to the event, but the staff was very friendly. Due to the staff, we decided to stay a little while and have a few drinks and some interesting bar food. Overall, I can't complain. I will update my review once I have had a chance to bowl :-)
Review Source:When we had a friend come visit from San Diego,we stopped by for two games after eating at the Blue Dome.
They have something similar to this in downtown San Diego where we just moved from that is uber hip these days in California. <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fbowlevt.com%2F&s=832de8b0685e4abdda75f9ff021154f1a9e8057f940b4bc127a99b9a02937b3e" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://bowlevt.com/</a>
You pay by the hour here, not by the game but with shoes included in the price.
The design of this place is spot on from the moment you open the door which is actually MADE of  bowling lane wood! Plaid carpet, long bar area with retro touches throughout, great overall space. Amazingly they have installed renovated 60's Brunswick machinery that reminds me of the Jetsons and it works perfectly ( other than the old time overhead projectors ) Brand new shoes, not stinky or grody.
You gotta check out the outdoor patio they share with Dilly Deli next door....astro turf walls and these really cool springy stools.
They serve a variety of bar food, munchies and full bar.Friendly, helpful and attractive folks working there too...stop by for a fun time.
