I used to live in the apartments next to this place and ate here all of the time! I live quite a distance from there now, but it is worth the drive to dine in or carry out.
Unfortunately, it's located in the ghetto and looks really rundown from the outside. But don't let that scare you away!
You get generous potions for low prices and the staff is always wonderful and very helpful.
Don't forget to order the almond cookies!
Ok, so I'm still a fan of this place and will still give it the 4 stars it deserves, but I must update with my latest food craze over this restaurant.
Delivery still the same, no changes there.
Food well er if it wasn't for the excellent food it'd be 3.5 stars :(. This time I literally went all out in ordering, yes I wanted dinner for the next day unbeknowest it would be the next 3 days lol. But this go around I went with the crispy shrimp (extra spicy), beef pan friend noodles, and the fried dumplings. Ok so the food was excellent like always, but.....it wasn't the greatest for some reason. A little disappointed, but still ate it all like always. I asked about the crispy shrimp, which was in a sweet and spicy sauce. For some reason I would have thought it meant the shrimp was crispy, like sweet and sour crispy. Nope, not really. The pan fried noodles were great, beef cooked to perfection. The fried dumplings on the other hand were tough. Not sure what it was, but I'm pretty sure it was the actual fried skin on them.
I had these items  again the next day for my lunch/dinner at work. The dumplings somehow got even tougher and even the pork filling inside didn't do it for me. It didn't hold its flavor. The shrimp was soggy like no other, but the pan fried noodles stayed well until the 3rd day, which is expected.
Would I still order from them again and recommend it? Oh definitely. Thinking of taking my boyfriend there for lunch one day.
We just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE East China!!! We have been going in here once or twice a week (never miss a week unless we are out of town)...for the past 6-7 years. That is no exageration. We have introduced many of our friends and family to East China as well.
The food at East China is always spot on! That includes the Chinese Food as well as the Thai Food. The Spiced Thai Soup is addictive!!!
Freshly made, always hot, always flavorful and prices are awesome! Lots of food for the money. We always have left overs for the next day.
We have gotten to know the owners and their children and employees and would venture to say we are more like friends now instead of customers. Although when we first started going there....we felt special. They always talk to you, they always acknowledge everything from when you walk in, to drinks, to food. You just know...they got it!
Try everything on the menu! The Egg Foo Young rocks, The Pan Fried Noodles...well, you will just have to try them, they are AMAZING...all the soups are awesome. The Seseme Beef....my newest addiction...LOL!! The Seseme Shrimp, AMAZING, The Triple Garlic....OMG!! I could go on and on and on....but one more thing...You MUST, MUST, MUST try the Spring Rolls with Peanut Sauce!!!!! Mmmmm
You will not be disappointed! We absolutely CAN NOT EAT CHINESE FOOD ANYWHERE ELSE!!!! NO PLACE EVER COMPARES TO EAST CHINA!!!!!!!!!!
I was a long time customer until recently. I've noticed little things in the service and food quality the last few months, but this last order was the last straw! Â We ordered food, and were told we'd get it in 40 minutes. They showed up almost an hour late!! They were so late the food was cold and soggy. When I called to talk to them about it, I was told that I should expect a longer time if it's cold. Note, it was not snowing, just cold. Apparently delivery drivers can't drive as well when it's cold, and I should have anticipated that. They did nothing to correct the situation. We won't be coming back. It's too bad really, we have been going there for a long time.
Review Source:From the food to the prices to the service, everything was far above average here. From the moment we walked in, we were taken care of by the woman running the place. She chatted us up the entire time. After our food was done, the old man cooking (presumably her husband) came out and joined us as well, talking football and other things. If you don't like this kind of interaction with the staff, this place definitely won't be up your alley, but I enjoy it so it was cool.
Just a quick tip..........there are some menu items that are labeled "hot and spicy". I ordered my Orange Chicken hot and spicy, and my friend ordered his sesame chicken "EXTRA spicy". When our food came out, there were differences worth noting. My actual chicken wasn't spicy at all, but had thai peppers mixed with the meal. His came out with spicy seasoning on the actual chicken itself, as well as peppers. So if you want your food itself to be spicy, order it "EXTRA spicy".
The only other thing that could be called "bad" is the decor, like someone else already mentioned. But really who cares. You're there for the food.
Full bar with cheap drinks and draft beers. Always a plus. Price-wise all the lunch and dinner meals hover around $7-8, which is awesome for the portion sizes. Overall this is the best asian food I've had in a while.
My favorite dish is the beef with black mushrooms, and you can't go wrong with Moo Shu anything. I've never had anything here I didn't like. They serve lunch until 4, which is really convenient, and they deliver, which is even more convenient. It's a good, solid, family-run, family-friendly American Chinese restaurant, with a few Thai dishes added--I'm not sure why. Not super-authentic, but very tasty. The Thai dishes are OK, but I go to Sue of Siam or Thai Flavor when I want Thai. Thai iced tea with Chinese food tastes really good, though.
