It's about time I write a review about Edgewater. We went here in the fall, but I kept a few mental notes of our experience.
We went to Edgewater for a casual afternoon meal with friends who were also visiting. I'll go ahead and put the positive up front that the location is really nice and that the patio is perfect for a fall evening.
We found parking to be difficult with so many rules about where parking was and wasn't allowed. I was actually nervous almost our entire meal that we may have been in a spot that could theoretically be in a tow zone. Too hard to tell with all the signs and rules.
Service was all over the place when we went, lots of confusion about what tables were open and where our group of 7 could sit. I am glad it was sorted out and we were able to get a coveted table outside.
We had heard many good things about the brick oven pizza, so everyone at the table ordered with that in mind. A while after ordering (~10 minutes), our server came back frantically telling us that there was no more pizza dough and we started the process of reordering. We had been very hungry and I'm glad we had ordered appetizers, including a very good artichoke dip/fondue. After reordering different meals, our server once again came back to tell us that they had found more dough and could make our original orders.
This confusion was frustrating and caused our order to take much longer time to finally receive. We didn't notice it as much as we could of since the view of the river had us all very relaxed.
Anyway, the food ended up being pretty good and I would love to give the pizza another try at some point.
However, given the many other options in Newburgh along the water, it may be a while before I give Edgewater another chance.
This place went downhill shortly after Franco left years ago. The Edgewater Grille sits on the bank of the Ohio river and the views are great. Â If only the food and service matched the view. Â Some of the food is okay. Â None of the food is exceptional. Sometimes the service is good...sometimes not so good. They will serve desserts that are not fresh. Â Don't order the last piece of pie or cake from the display case.
Review Source:I really want to like this place, it has a great patio with an awesome view of the Ohio river, but the service is just horrible. Â Last time we went the hostess and a server argued in front of my party because the server didn't want us sat in her section. Â Every time I go, the drinks take forever to come to the table, even in the bar. Â The food is pretty hit or miss, I usually stick to the pizza, which is generally pretty good. Â Everything is a little overpriced, and that, combined with employees that seem miserable and annoyed at having to serve you, makes this place a less than stellar dining experience.
Review Source:What's up with the chain across the Jennings Street entrance to the parking lot, and the big truck blocking the entry? Â It's not only very, very, very unsightly but it looks like they don't want business off Jennings, the main thoroughfare through town. Â What's the message here? Â Maybe someone can enlighten me?!?
Review Source:Alcoholic Drinks are outrageously expensive and they don't have a very good selection.
This might be a little picky, but if you go at sunset, tell them you want to sit under the canape. If you sit out on the open balcony you will be battling the sun for 30 min and might loose key points in the philosophical debate. You can still see the awesome view from cover, and it in enhances the experience 10 fold. Â
The pizza and view make this place what it is. It is absolutely worth checking out. But Ben J. is right, the rest of the food and drink experience has to improve to "go from good to great."
You can't beat the location and the view. Â I love downtown Newburgh and when the weather is nice we love sitting outside and enjoying the river view. Â The food and the service have never been impressive and with a little improvement the experience could go from good to great. Â Right now Edgewater is at it's best when you want to have a relaxing drink with friends while you enjoy the scenery.
Review Source:Excellent views of the Ohio River from nearly every seat in the place. In the warm months, they have lots of outdoor seating. The dinner entres are very good - I wouldn't say excellent - but very good nonetheless and priced about right considering the location. They have pizza which I believe is well regarded and very popular; it will be something I try the next time I come here.
Review Source:mediocre service....sometimes mediocre food
But sure hits are definitely the simply WONDERFUL brick oven pizzas as well as the chicken alfredo, and I believe it is called like a steak sandwich or something similar to that? You'd recognize it on the menu. Its great!
I like sitting outside--but you have to be careful, if its a hot or muggy night, or a night that the bugs are out, ask to sit inside, but definitely by the window. If its just one of those perfect weather nights, without a doubt, sit outside, you won't regret it!!
Definitely worth it, now I'm getting hungry!
Edgewater has the best (and only) brick oven pizzas in town. Â They are well worth the trip downtown. Â I'm not a fan of the outside dining because I don't like being eaten alive by bugs, but if that is your thing, more power to ya.
The service could be better too, but if there is good food, I can usually deal with mediocre service.
