WARNING! If you order food from here, stick to the egyptian style foods like kebabs, lamb, pitas etc. If anything looks like an attempt to appease American Midwest xenophobia, like the "Cheese Burger", steer very far away!
I have eaten food from Egyptian Cafe on numerous occasions. I absolutely loved their Lamb Kebabs. Also, the Lamb Rice Bowl was good, but only because I like their lamb meat. Overall it was actually very mild and bland other than the lamb and tzatziki sauce. Not stellar, but a nice break from over seasoned foods and a palette cleanser. Oh, and the Honey Balls were quite good as well.
My biggest mistake was ordering a burger from here. We ordered the Cheese Burger and Feta Cheese Burger which both come with French Fries. First, the fries that came with each burger were completely different. One had thick cut steak house fries that were as bland as a raw potato. The other had thinner cut fries which were decent. Secondly, the restaurant delivered the order and did not include the extra tzatziki sauce, which costs about a dollar extra. Lastly and worst of all though were the burgers. It was immediately obvious they were generic, frozen, bulk patties that you can get at Sam's Club. Why does a restaurant that specializes in delicious grilled meat not make their own burgers? The burgers were also missing onions and mayo and the tomato that was added was a strange wedge half slice. You would expect the Feta Cheese Burger to actually have chunky delicious feta cheese. Instead there was a thin layer between the burger patties I can only describe as white pasty pond scum.
It's obvious they added burgers to their menu as an afterthought. I was excited that they would have a unique spin on the classic, with seasoned meat and bold flavors. Instead they just slapped some frozen, bland, lazy slop sandwich on their menu.
While some of their food is nice, I feel their laziness with some menu items and the fact that they couldn't even get a simple order correct or even consistent shows a general lack of professionalism.
I do not think I will be supporting Egyptian Cafe with my money any longer.
I don't mind if people smoke hookah or not, and we chose the restaurant based on its menu and my wife's previous good experience there. We went in on a slow Saturday afternoon, and the only other people there were a few hookah smokers. My wife's sandwich -- the vegetable and paneer -- was spicy and tasted great. I tried the falafel sandwich/wrap, which turned out to just have a little falafel ground up and mixed with tabouleh and a few other things. Had I known this, I would have ordered something else. I like tabouleh, but this particular tabouleh tasted a bit stale, and I tasted very little falafel. I am sure I would have loved another choice, but I was a bit disappointed with what I ordered. My experience shows the need for menu accuracy.
