I suppose I can only comment on my experiences here at The Fest but... that wouldn't do anyone on another other weekend any good when considering if Eight Seconds is the place for them.
This is a country bar, as evidenced by the name. You know, hold onto the bull for :08. You didn't know that? Come on. OK, me neither. I had to ask.
All this place is missing is a mechanical bull. The rest of it is country as it gets, including the free line dancing lessons that are apparently offered at the beginning of every night to the railings around the dance floor reminiscent of a farm. Put on your shit kickin' boots and Wranglers and get on down to the hee-haw party. Or whatever they call this sort of thing.
Interesting.
The flyer said, "Corn Hole, Beer Pong, Line Dancing, Live Country DJ*..."

I can tell you right now that I would never step foot in here on a night that wasn't The Fest. Country bars just aren't my thing. At all. Ever. Neither is a wall of ridiculous shot concoctions.
As a venue, though, it was mediocre. Acoustic sounds way better than thrashier stuff. There are a bunch of obstructions around the place, but I guess the balcony makes up for it? Oh wait, there are obstructions up there, too.
I think I counted four bars, which makes me wonder just how many people they cram in here because the place doesn't seem big enough to justify it.
This has to be a country-loving, college kid's wet dream.

One of the best places to spend a Thursday night in Gainesville. Line dancing, great country music (including the older stuff like Hank and Merle, not all that new crappy pop-country stuff), and cheap beer. 2 floors, pool tables, huge dance floor, the bartenders are cool, and there's a $5 parking garage right around the corner so you don't have to worry about towing. They also play some top 40/hip hop occasionally. The only downside is it's 18+ (what do you expect in a college town though) so watch out for all the kids drinking in the bathrooms!
Review Source:This bar, in only its second year of participation, has become my second favorite FEST venue. Only 1982 is better, and it is drastically different so the comparison ends with the FEST.
One of my favorite things about 8 Seconds is that no matter how big the FEST banner hanging on stage, it is never quite big enough to completely cover the humongous Dale Jr poster hanging behind it. Â More positives: It is HUGE. There is an entire second area upstairs with it's own bar, never too crowded, but the view leaves something to be desired from here. The beer is CHEAP. Fuck all that PBR everyone is drinking, Yeungling is only $3 at 8 seconds. Furthermore, probably the only venue during FEST that has NO minimum on credit cards. Hell yeah. With all the jumping from venue to venue, that's a big plus if you aren't a cash carrier.
There are a couple other things that make it stand out. I swear, they staff more people during FEST than the Venue/Florida Theater does. There is RARELY a line out front. After the first day this year, they were running two lines the entire time. So quick to get in! And so big it's rarely at capacity. The staff is also friendly, despite being out of their element. This is a country bar after all, and their staff is country folk, for the most part. One of these years they'll wisen up and leave the mechanical bull out for the punks to ride. ;-)
