Love EJ Phair! Â This place is awesome... old building in downtown Pittsburg, turned into a great live music venue. Â They have tables, chairs, couches, and lounge seats. Â Plus a big long bar in the back. Â Stage seems small but makes for a more intimate performance setting. Â (Saw an awesome Sting cover band - Stung!) Â Great place, fantastic beers! Â Limited menu from their restaurant across the street. Â I just with the owner/brewer was more friendly (JJ). Â I always see him there, but maybe his personality is much more reserved. Â As a home brewer, I always want to strike up a conversation but feel intimidated with his demeanor. Â But hey, he's good with what he does and as long as he continues making great beers, I'll continue to be a very satisfied customer!
Review Source:I've been a fan of E.J. Phair for about a year now. I found out about this place because of their monthly open mics. I'm a stand-up comedian from Sacramento who travels to the bay for shows and I found out about the Brew HaHa Café (E.J.Phair), so I contacted the person who runs the room and was invited to be on their showcase and open mic.
I have some family in Pittsburg so I'm somewhat familiar with downtown Pittsburg and was really impressed with the design of the building. It reminded me of "King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table" for some odd reason. They have dart boards, plenty of comfortable seating (leather couch and love seat), a DJ who plays music, and great food and drinks.
I can really only speak about their comedy nights because those are the only times I've been to the E.J. Phair room but from my experience the room/place is pretty cool. One down side is that they only have one bartender/waitress on one side of the restaurant so she has to walk across the street to grab your food (packed in a to go box) and if you walk up to the counter to order wine or beer, you'll have to wait...sometimes 5-10 minutes.
SERVICE: The service can be hit or miss but most of the time it's decent. You might have to wait for the bartender to take your drink order pr food order because there is usually only one worker.
SETTING/AMBIENCE: This place has TONS of seating and there is never a time where you can't find a seat. They have comfortable leather couches and seats and tables everywhere including bar seating and private (sort of private) wooden rooms (I call them "mangers" with seating in them for a party.
If you're free on the first Tuesday of the month, then stop by for their comedy nights. They have some really talented comedians from all across Northern California.
