I'm somewhat of a loyal person. I find a specific dish at a local restaurant, and I tend to order it 75% of the time. I've been to EJ Phair a handful of times, and only once have I not ordered the meat loaf. The first few times, it was by far the best meat loaf I've had at a restaurant. Mixed with some bacon and garlic, served over mashed potatoes and freshly sauteed spinach.. MMm MMmm MMM! Good! Wash it down with one of their beers on tap... that's good eating. The last time I ordered the Meat loaf, however, it was different... not exactly the same, and not nearly as enjoyable. I'm hoping it was a fluke.
I've also had the Jaegerschnitzel - it lives up to the hype.. so good.

Their Concord location seems to be a bit more popular, which is understandable.
This is a great brewery, restaurant, and music venue! We came here specifically from San Francisco to check out the area for possible boating adventures. Pittsburg has a great marina and EJ Phair was going to be our hang out if we liked it. And we LIKED it! Awesome beer brewed right across the street in an updated historical building and state of the art brewery. The restaurant itself is in the old Liberty Hotel, a central figure in the heyday of Pittsburg which was a booming town with over a 100 bars. The town is struggling to make a come back and the owner has invested years into making the two locations beautiful and the beer and food spectacular. Â Shorty's Revenge is now in my top ten list of beers, fantastic.
It's a great place to eat lunch, have a few beers and then come back for top name musical talent at night. We were really impressed and enjoyed meeting JJ. Here's to Pittsburg making a comeback and EJ Phair being central to it's success.
I really did not know what to expect to find out late night in pittsburg but was delighted to find a kick ass Hendrix cover band, some type of fresh grapefruit and barleywine cocktail that was amazing, I think I had 3 or 4, and just all around good environment. Â The biggest suprise was the people, real, no frills, regular folks. If you are looking for a place away from the walnut creek vibe, this is it.
