My family really enjoyed our dinner here.  One thing I would note is you do not seat yourself.  I read past reviews so I thought this was the case.  Boy did I get strange looks from the staff!  Good service and excellent quality.

You can tell everything cones from a can. Very bland food. No creativity. Servers acted like we were bothering them to be there.

Stopped here a couple weeks ago as I drove up to Canada from Arizona. This place had great reviews so we decided to give it a try. I didn't think this place lived up to the reputation of huge portions. There was four of us and although everyone was full, there wasn't a scrap left. I ordered carne asada and thought it was really overpriced for the potion size. Tasted good though; everything was adequate, just not as good as I expected for the numerous 5 star reviews and the 4 star average review. Also, the food was Tex-Mex, not Mexican.

This is an easy review.   Cheap, big helpings, nice staff.   Some of the food was fantastic, some was ok, nothing was bad.

The best chips I've had at a restaurant in recent memory.  The service was friendly and jovial, and the food was very tasty.  The fish tacos aren't fried fish, but good, so be aware.  My wife had a tostada which I could tell she thoroughly enjoyed.  The frosted mugs kept the various mexican beers nice and cold as the hot food kept coming out of the kitchen.

Great lunch. Friendly quick service. Tasty and good size portions. We were here a year ago and we'll be back!

This place was pretty darn good. I noticed another Mexican restaurant along the way but a few locals I spoke to said I should go here instead and locals know what they are talking about.

When we walked inside there was only 2 tables available because they were busy. You seat yourself. We were brought water right away and menus. Soon after fresh made chips and salsa were brought to our table. The chips were some of the  best I have ever had. The salsa is Escobar's claim to fame. It wasn't chunky it was very thin. It did have a fresh flavor and I ate my fair share however I wouldn't say it was anyway near as good as the sauce on my enchilada or the best I ever had. I saw a woman come in with a mason jar and ask to buy just some salsa. I decided to try a "Shredded Beef Taco & Cheese Enchilada". I can't speak highly enough about the sauce on the enchilada. It was so good and you could just tell by taste that it was made fresh. The taco was full of shredded beef and full of flavor. The taco shell was homemade and excellent. My man had a "Shredded Beef Burrito". He said it was very good and he would never order anything but that again.

The prices are reasonable. Inside is clean. I used the restroom and it is spacious and clean. They also have outdoor seating. This place is family owned and run. I will for sure eat here again when passing through Kanab!

Typical Mexican restaraunt, chips and salsa were good, service is great.  I had the cheese enchiladas w/ beans and rice which was nice and cheesy and very hot.

I used to live near Kanab, and Escobar's was a regular dinner choice for my husband and me. We would always bring our guests to eat here and everyone who ever had their garlic shrimp fajitas, to this day talks about how delicious they were.  My husband's go-to menu item were the chili rellenos, whereas I liked the carne asada.  Or maybe my favorite was the modified version of the salad they would make for me to accommodate my food allergies. It was delicious.  But probably the thing we remember most about Escobar's, and have never had the equivalent of anywhere else, is the salsa they set out to eat with the chips.  It is SO good.  If you go here regularly, the owner, Rosa, will remember your name and your food and drink preferences, always a nice thing. THIS is the place locals go to when in the mood for Mexican- the other couple places in town were overpriced and not nearly as good.

I love Escobars!  We eat there every time we are in town.  The salsa is the best I've ever eaten, I think!  I usually eat the Big Pork Burrito and it is delicious.  I can't eat it all.  Probably because I can't stop eating the delicious chips and salsa!  Keep up the good work, Rosa!

This place wasn't great.  I ordered the chicken tacos and they were very underwhelming.  They came with shredded cheese and iceberg lettuce in a hard taco shell, and also a side of rice and beans.  Nothing great.

The wait staff was very nice, but very, very slow.

I think the best part of the whole meal was the homemade chips and salsa.

I don't think I will ever be back to this place.  There are other tasty restaurants in the area that I would visit first.

I had a soggy chile relleno which came from the microwave with watery sauce, standard beans and rice. I should learn.

I also had a fish taco which came with a generous amount of lightly fried fish, lettuce and three slices of ripe local tomato. The taco was quite good, but would have been better with a dollop of sour cream or something.

The chips were bought in bulk, of course, and the salsa was very bland. I live in Biloxi, but I come to Utah enough that I should know that most of what I eat while I am here will be bland. It's a regional thing.

The service was friendly if casual. If you say you are doing 'ok', then you have only yourself to blame when you are left alone to eat your meal.

    I am no gourmet, but I rocognize awesome food when I eat it. This is not it. If I had it to do over again, I guess I would order the chile verde, which is listed as one of the specials on the menu. My guess is it would have been much better than the frozen relleno I ate;

This place is amazing. Great authentic mexican food, great service and fair prices. The menu has everything laid out for you, including prices of extra tortillas...

My girlfriend and I stopped here on our road trip for dinner en route to the North Rim of Grand Canyon (about 1.5 hours away from here). We were both extremely impressed with this place, food-wise and service-wise, and we have had great Mexican food, being from Southern California.
The chips and salsa were some of the best I've ever had, fatty but crunchy and great. I had 3 enchiladas - one carnitas, one cheese, and one shredded beef, and each one of them was amazing. The rice was OK, but the beans were also very tasty. My girlfriend had three cheese enchiladas, and she also loved her food. Also, considering the price, this was truly amazing - total bill was 21.50! Of course we left a good tip, but I would strongly recommend this place to anybody who wants some good, authentic, Mexican food!

We stopped in here after a bike ride through the backcountry of the Canyon and were just picking up some food to go.  I got shredded beef tacos, which I have never had.  They were great; wow I really enjoy these tacos.  She got a bean and rice burrito that was covered with a queso sauce that was very tasty.

We also got an order of chips and salsa that lasted several days after.  Come here for great Mexican food if you are in the Bryce area.

    Cheers

Kanab has limited options and this is one of the better options, but Kanab has limited options. If you are in town to volunteer at Best Friends one plus for Escobars is that it is dog friendly. Rosa the proprietor is friendly.

The absolute best mexican food in utah. Lunch specials daily from 11am - 3pm. Be warned, it gets busy during lunch and dinner, so be patient and you will be rewarded.

I was in town for one night on a week long trip through Utah's national parks. I checked out Kanab on Yelp and found Escobar's. It was also right down the street from our hotel so that made it even easier.

As soon as you walk in you can tell that this is going to be a good place. The locals inside (and on the patio) all seem to know each other and the proprietor, Rosa, is the server and she was talking to several of the patrons in a very familiar way. It's definitely a family run, comfortable, welcoming restaurant from the moment you walk in.

Of course, that's not nearly enough for a 5 star review, the food is what really was excellent. I'm positive that Escobar's has the best guacamole that I've ever tasted, it was slightly chunky but creamy with a strong hint of lime and cilantro to go with the small chunks of tomato. In other words, it was absolutely perfect! In addition, the chips were amazing as well, light and crispy and very fresh.

I ordered the carne asada burrito ($9) which came with rice and beans, of course. It was the best burrito I've had in my life and I've had plenty of burritos while living in (and visiting) Houston and south Texas. The meat was flavorful and almost buttery and was surrounded with refried beans, rice and guacamole. The beans were also excellent, with a smooth texture and buttery taste. The rice was very good but nothing out of this world like some of their other dishes.

A couple of the people in my group got taco salads which were fantastic as well! The shells were fresh and tasted homemade. The fillings were the beans, rice, and carne asada along with lettuce, guac, sour cream and olives. It was perfectly balanced with just the right amount of each ingredient, something a lot of restaurants struggle to obtain.

If I'm ever in the area again, I would absolutely drive 2 hours to eat here, it was that good! I was shocked and amazed that a small, unassuming restaurant in a small Utah town would have such great food. You simply have to try it if you're anywhere close!

I lived in Kanab for 3 years and this is definantly the best Mexican food around the area! The chicken chimichanga is to die for! The carne asada burrito is also delicious. And the daily specials are usually awesome too! The owner Rosa is an awesome lady who has memorized what everyone around town orders, it is pretty impressive! I love this place! I highly reccommend giving this place a try!

I was in town for work during the winter so my dining choices were limited. I came to Escobar's on the recommendation of the hotel staff and some people with whom I was working.

Despite the cold weather outside, I received a very warm welcome from the owners. The chips and salsa were amazing! I'm not a fan of super spicy salsa and theirs is perfect, nice and cool going down and leaving nice spicy reminder that it was there. I think it's a perfect balance of heat and flavor.

I ordered the chimichanga (my favorite Mexican dish) and it hit the spot. I had a chimichanga the night before I ate here and the one at Escobar's is better by far. I hears from many locals that they have the best Mexican in town, I truly believe that after eating here.

Excellent food!  Returning from Powell and stopped in for yummy lunch.  I had 1/2 Colorado Chile and 1/2 Chile Verde with fresh tortillas, others had carne aside burrito enchilada style and fish tacos with nice sized tilapia filet.  Chips and salsa.  Everything was delicious, best Mexican food I've had since moving to Sandy, UT nearly eight years ago.  Escobar's will be a new tradition for our annual Lake Powell trip!

I eat here a lot when I come into town. Someone I know who used to live in Kanab recommended the carne asada burrito to me and it's good enough that I'm reluctant to try anything else. They have a relatively extensive menu, the chips and salsa are good, and they also serve beer. Prices could be cheaper but Kanab is pretty much a tourist town and the items are priced accordingly, and I think the other Mexican restaurant in town is actually slightly more expensive. The staff are all nice, but seem to be more attentive to the locals. Speaking of locals, they all seem to love the place, so that's a good sign.

Considering you are in southern Utah, Escobar's is good Mexican food. There aren't a whole lot of options in town to choose from, but out of the choices I personally like Escobar's and the Rewind Diner, just depends on what you're in the mood for.

One positive about Escobar's is that they're open on Sundays, which does not seem to be the norm in the area due to religious observances. The downside is that they are closed on Saturdays, so keep that in mind.

We enjoyed our meal at Escobar's.  I enjoyed my chili verde and everyone else liked their choices. The salsa was real tasty, but could use some more heat for me.

Our host was friendly and accommodating, she teased my brother about sharing his choice with his wife. She pointed out that another item on the menu would have done the same thing and been cheaper.

Escobar's is your best bet for Mexican food in Kanab.  I went Escobar's frequently when I lived in town and always enjoyed the food.  The experience is different for locals than it is for visitors.  Your are always bound to run into folks you know and Rosa knows everyone.  She is awesome and the food is great ("hot plate!").  I could make a meal of the nachos and salsa - so good!  Beware they are very addicting.

When my husband and I were in town visiting after 3 years of being gone we stopped in to Esocbar's for dinner.  Rosa didn't miss a beat - she knew our order without us even having to say anything!  The food was exactly as I had remembered.  In fact, writing this review is making me crave a veggie burrito and a basket of nachos and salsa!

I'll definitely be visiting Escobar's the next time I'm in town.

Traveling in southern Utah for a week, my friend and I were craving cold beer and some Mexican food.  Cold beer in iced mugs?  Great!  The food?  Meh.  Passable if you're starving, but I can't recommend it.  Plus, the prices were expensive for what you get.  This was a disappointing meal.

The food was just great, we enjoyed every dish we ordered. The price was OK after you take into consideration the add on's. The service was good and the food was served quickly at the right temp.

One of the better Mexican places I have had a chance to eat in

Woman running the place charged me $2 for three corn tortillas, without informing me of the fee ahead of time.  I finished my meal, and took my check to the register to pay.  I left a generous tip (as always) before politely mentioning that charges should be mentioned before items are served.  She proceeded to berate me and insist that this was standard procedure everywhere.

I was probably taken to be a tourist who could be taken for a couple of extra dollars before leaving town.

Big disappointment-- Kanab has few dining options, and I found myself with one less for the time I'd be working there.

I tried Escobar's on the suggestion of a friend and I was not disappointed. This is a small restaurante run by a charming family. I had a combination plate so I could try more than one thing: #18, which included a beef burrito, refried beans, rice  and my choice of a chicken or beef tostada. The food came to the table hot and tasty. One thing I noticed is that, unlike most Mexican restaurants in the US, the food was not overly salted or seasoned; the taste of the ingredients came through.

One standout is the chips and salsa served when you sit down. Definitely the best chips I have had in a long time; they came to the table nice and hot, right out of the oil. Also, the salsa was very fresh and not too spicy.

Escobar's seems to be a local favorite in Kanab, and for good reason. A very good value.

(Note, until the folks at Yelp! can get it corrected, Escobar's is located on 300 S, not 300 N. The correct address is in the picture of the menu).
