Came here for a CYP Music Trivia Night, and had a lot of fun. Â Event aside, the menu was quite impressive, and I had a tough time deciding on a meal. Â I settled on the chicken quesadilla, intrigued by the notion of using boxty (an Irish potato pancake which features heavily on the menu) instead of tortillas, and it was fantastic (and a great value, with the $9 'appetizer' easily being enough food for a meal, and then some). Â I'll be back to try more of the seemingly authentic Irish pub fare...
Review Source:I've walked by every visit to Easton and never wandered in until last night. My co-worker and I were in the mood for something different and we guessed good when we wandered in. The beer samples were generous and the waitress was great at making recommendations. I had the corned beef and cabbage, my friend had the fish and chips. Both of us were very pleased with our meals and left room for the excellent desserts. I had the warm brownie topped with Guinness ice cream, she had the rhubarb pie. Again, both of us were happy with our choices. I could see myself coming back many, many times to enjoy food and bringing my husband along for the excellent beer selection/combinations.
Review Source:Guinness is a finicky beer. Most bars abuse and pour Guinness incorrectly but Fado pours some of the best in Columbus.
Food is average, the corned beef and cabbage is great!
Only compliant would be the music. The decor in Fado gives an authentic pub experience but they have the radio top ten playing. The music doesn't match the feel of the pub.
I want to like this place but... I'm a big fan of Irish Pubs and Irish food. Have made a number of trips to Ireland so I chose Fado's for lunch. I had fish and chips there not too long ago that was just OK but I thought I'd try it again. I was going to have the Irish Stew but the bartender said he was not a fan and to try the pork chops. Not exactly the Irish food I had in mind but I figured he know what was good so that's what I ordered. After a LONG wait for my food (and the place wasn't overly crowded), it was served with some kind of potato patty that was not good at all. As for the chops, they were way overcooked, were tough and tasteless. Actually, the worst pork chops I've ever had. My bartender (I ate at the bar) refilled my drink after I had shoved it to the edge and I had to flag down another server to get salt. I used steak sauce to give the meat some kind of taste but couldn't eat more than half of the meal - and I was hungry. The high back chairs at the bar were all shaky and loose (I tried a couple) and felt like they were ready to collapse. Overall, I'm giving 2 stars because I like the decor and this place looks like a fun spot to have drinks but I will not buy food there again. There are way too many good restaurants in Easton to be served this kind of bland, average food. Go there for drinks but eat somewhere else first.
Review Source:If you're a beer fan, this is your place. If you're a soccer fan, even better. Â I'm neither and still had a good time on my most recent visit. Â I've been here about 5 times in the last 5 years. Â Really not many visits, but a lot since I don't come out to Ohio too often. Â This pub so busy and packed during games that you're guaranteed to bump to at least 10 people from the front door to the bar itself. Â Just getting service is tough enough when it's busy, try getting a seat. Â The food is your basic bar food and they do recommend the fish & chips. So, guess what I've had on my last visit? That's right, their fish and chips. Â Since it was recommended, I figured it would be the best fish and chips ever. Â To be honest, not the best but pretty good and hit the spot. Â
Service here really depends on how busy this place is. Â It's usually busy, but I've seen a quiet Fado before. Â If the weather is fair and aren't here for the games, then I suggest sitting outside. Â Ironically, had the best service while eating outside. Â Overall I recommend not for the food or the beers, but to hang out and to enjoy your time. Â Okay..I recommend for the beers too.
This review is a little old, but I had to put it up!! I went here the day after Christmas with my family & had a wonderful time! It was loud because of several soccer games that were on but we didn't care because there were plenty of other places to sit if you wanted a more quiet atmosphere. Our server looked to be in her early 20's. She was really sweet & answered all of our questions about the food. Overall it was a wonderful time. You really need to try both of these when you go there: Cheese dip & wedges & the Chicken boxty quesadilla sooo good :)
Review Source:This review is coming from a big soccer fan, and I always make sure that I go to Fado when there's a big game cause I know I'm not going to be the only guy yelling at the TV, and shouting goal when there's one, so the atmosphere is perfect for soccer games, and so far it's the only place that's a LEGIT soccer place.
Now to be honest had this not been a soccer place I would've probably never came here, a lot of the food they have isn't good ,however  last time my friend got the chicken quesadilla, and after trying some I though to myself "finally something that tastes good over here" (which is kind of weird cause I usually don't like quesadillas) the portion was ok. I tried the fish and chips as well based on the recommendations of a lot of the yelp reviews, and it I wasn't really blown out of my mind as much as the others have.
The service is always good there, the staff are friendly and very helpful.
So basically  the only main reason this place is getting 4 stars from me is that's it's a soccer place, if not I would've gave it a 2 star.
Great atmosphere and good beer.
I go to Fado's for many Irish-themed events including St. Patrick's Day, St. Balderick's and whenever my friends guest bartend. In the past I've really enjoyed the spinach-artichoke dip and pita - but sadly it's no longer there! :(
The best thing about Fado's is the atmosphere. I wouldn't particularly come here for the food - maybe during happy hour if they still do the pick three. Fado's can accomodate large groups and that there's separated bar areas and event areas - this makes it nice when you need to get a break from crowds or the noise.
The bathrooms only have two stalls for the ladies and I've seen gals use the men's room on occassion. No one wants to use a port-o-potty in the cold!
Just glad that Columbus has a great Irish hangout with yummy beer and friendly staff.
Chain Irish, but it's not bad, just not really good. Â They tried to make it feel like an Irish pub the way Cracker Barrel tries to exude the feel of a down home country diner. Â (Is there a company somewhere out there that makes all that stuff you see in these places?) Â Anyway, they have the usual beer choices, some typical pub grub, some not-so-typical eats, and it's all OK. Â The service was friendly and quick. Â That;s all, folks.
Review Source:For a european football lover, can't hate on this. It's one of the few places in town that you can plunk yourself down into a chair, and, without a doubt, find whatever game you're looking for while grabbing a pint or two.
The food is good enough for bar food; nothing special or unique, but solid. Get the fish and chips if you're going to nosh down while enjoying a Guinness and watching the premier league!
Fado is one of our favorite hangouts. We used to hit the Pub Quiz on a regular basis, but work schedules tend to put a wrench in that of late. The Guinness Mac and Cheese is superb, an half price with a few other things after 10PM on weekdays.
Personal non-liquor favorite here is the Black Velvet... Guinness over Strongbow cider. Can't really go wrong with anything involving Guinness, though. Definite destination for St. Patrick's, and the St. Baldrick's event to fight pediatric cancer within that celebration is the highlight of the year. Staff is always terrific.
I really enjoyed my time at Fado's Irish Pub. I was there with a group (CYP Club) and they had a tent for oysterfest. The staff was very knowledgeable about oysters and let me to try some for the very first time. I also had a oyster harp shooter that although wasn't the best thing I've tried, I'm happy they convinced me. The patio is quite smoky so if you're not a smoker, I probably wouldn't sit out there. Indoors on a Friday or Saturday night can be quite crowded so make sure you find a seat and keep it!
Review Source:Seating is self-serve. I usually try to be really obnoxious about it, so that the servers know someone sat in their section.
Came here last Thursday night for some fried pickles and a Black & Tan with a friend. Our server was great; I love the out going, friendly types!
The inside of the restaurant is dark; minimal lighting. I usually sit at the bar, but it was so nice out, so we chose to sit on the patio.
If you're sensitive to smoke, I would refrain from choosing the patio; there is a cigar shop next door, and smoking is allowed on the patio in designated areas.
The corned-beef rolls are one of my favorite appetizers! The bar menu has a great selection of Irish beers (obviously), as well as cocktails. Try the Fado Irish Coffee, or the "pickleback" shot! You can always go for the obvious shot of Jameson, also :)
Happy hour is every single day of the week, from 4 to 7, and they have some really great deals.
The decor is authentic, straight from Ireland, which gives the atmosphere a one-of-a-kind feel.
If you are a FIFA fan, this is definitely your pub. It's nice to see soccer fans, because they are a pretty rare find!
You can visit their website to check out local events and to reserve a table, if you need to do that sort of thing.
As others here have mentioned, the pickleback shot is a must try, it sounds odd but truly is delicious. All of the food here is good, I particularly like their spinach salad, my wife really likes the steak boxty.
Most of the servers here are top notch and very attentive, they have a pub quiz every Monday where gift cards are given out.
Only reason Fado doesn't get 5 stars is because in my opinion, the drink prices are a bit on the high side.
Although I ate at Fado this particular evening, I am only reviewing the drinks of the night because they were the stars. Â I started with a Magners cider because I felt like being reminded of my time in England two years ago. Â It was just as I remembered: apple-y and wonderful. Â But that evening was not a night of past memories so I said the bartender "yo, howz about a shot?"
Bartender: Â What shot do you want?
Me: Â Â Â Â Â Â I don't know, something awesome!!
Bartender: Â How 'bout a Pickle Back?
Me: Â Â Â Â Â Â Uhhh, what's that?
Bartender: Â A shot of Jameson and a shot of pickle juice.
Me: Â Â Â Â Â Â Sick!! I'm game!!!
Then I had this weird and funky 2 shot piece of awesome. Â The pickle juice tones down the whiskey bite. Â It was amazing!! Â I said to the bartender "what else you got?"
Bartender: Â How about an Irish Breakfast?
Me: Â Â Â Â Â Â ?????
Bartender: Â It tastes like a McGriddle sandwich from MickyD's.
Me: Â Â Â Â Â Â Heck yea!!
This was another 2 shot delight. Â Jameson and Butterscotch in one shot glass and OJ in another. Â Gulp!!! Â Holy potatoes - It tastes just like breakfast......
I am wondering what other crazy mixes these folks have up their sleeves....
My husband and I heard many positive things about Easton mall and the surrounding stores so we took a drive one night to check it out. We arrived around sunset, so it was getting dark and all of the outdoor lights were just flickering on. Easton itself is so pretty and so very different from what we were used to on the east coast. I have never seen a mall like this, and we come from the King of Prussia Mall which is the 2nd largest mall in the country. Easton has the small town feel of the outlet mall near my NJ home (if you're familiar with Flemington and its charm you'll understand) mixed with the big mall feel of King of Prussia, mixed with Peddlers village (near Philly). It's intimate yet upscale, with tons of spunk at night. We drove around looking for a place to have dinner, and being that neither of us wore anything nice (not knowing what to expect) we settled on the pub.
At first glance, you notice the patio, the huge patio where everyone seems to hang out. Fado obviously has a regular crowd out there; it gave the place a very homey feel, kind of like Cheers, but nicer. The area in general has lots of pubs, so we figured this one would be similar in the fact that although an Irish pub, the name along would be Irish and would not reflect in the food or vibe.
Fado is very much an authentic Irish pub with a 'sit anywhere you'd like' attitude. Inside is very dark and "pub-like", while the outdoor patio is loud and comfy; a must if your first time. I think I would even sit outside when it's raining! The staff is great too, very personable. The menu is very cool, with a rustic irish feel yet has quailty to it making it a bit more upscale; pretty much Easton as a whole.5:5 for vibe & staff.
The food...its irish alright, and for anyone who knows what that means would also know that it's not for everyone. Everything has Guniess in it, the apps, the main courses, the desserts, and of course the drinks, again making this place very authentic. The Irish love Guiness and they often use it in everything being that it is such a huge way for them to make some money; tee shirts, food, soups, factory tours, etc - everything has Guiness and they like it that way.
Very authentic irish food, and almost-fair prices. Boxtys, bangers & mash, ham & cabbage, and everything with Guiness. We got the guiness wings and they were good, but nothing specail. I prefered the hot wings. I had the trinity boxty. It's a thick crepe that they stuff with steak with a whiskey sauce poured over it. Simple and delicious. Tom had the lamb sandwich and said it was yummy but a bit gamey for his taste. Dessert was good too. Two scoops of guiness ice cream over a warm brownie. Who a thought that Guiness ice cream would be so dam good! Food: 3.5:5
Come to relax, come to eat, just make sure you try it! You know, it's been a week since we went. Thinking back, they didnt have the best food, nothing REALLY wowed us, but it's still in our heads. I can still taste the boxty and it was a memorable place. I'd come back for the boxty and ice cream, but I'd probably try a different place in the Easton mall first.
The ONLY place they pull a proper pint in this town! If i could give 5 stars on that and the atmosphere, done. Service, 5 stars. Food, solid 2. It has been dissapointing the past several times i have actually eaten here. Guinness stew is nothing more than steak pieces in gravy poured over mashed potatos. nary a vegetable in sight!
Looking for a easy going place to cool your heels while your lady shops? Its Fado.
Stopped in for a happy hour that turned into dinner the other night. Â I really want to like Fado more than I can. Â I'm reviewing it here as a pub/restaurant. Â I would give it 4 stars as a bar.
The decor and layout is great. Â Lots of nice nooks and crannies that are great for conversation, and I imagine other things as the nights grow late. Â It has nice, dusky lighting and a mix of high and low top tables and bar/counter for whatever you like. Â Unfortunately, either they share ventilation with the Tinder Box next door, the workers smoke in the back, or the smoke from the patio is sucked inside. Â The air, while not smoky, did have a lingering tobacco flavor. Â It didn't chase me away, but it was noticeable.
The beer was great. Â Perfect Guinness pours, as you would hope and expect. Â There were a number of people in the back room working on laptops. Â I want that job.
I should have stuck to drinks and not moved on to food. Â I had the beef stew, which was a thick "Chunky Soup" style and lukewarm. Â Meh. Â Also had the hummus which came with an odd deep-fried-pita-esque floppy starch for dipping. Â Appetizing, right? Â Meh.
Thankfully, I had enough calories from beer.
If the review was purely for the food, it'd be three stars - it's solid food, but nothing spectacular. Â Why the four stars? Â Soccer!!!
Sunday and Saturday mornings at Fado are SO much fun. Â My husband and I already like soccer, but I have to admit - I go there to watch some of the other fans, not the game. Â The wait staff are understanding that we don't want to drink ourselves silly at 9 in the morning and just want to watch the game.
Hooray for weekend morning soccer!
I always have a great time and great food at Fado's. Â Â I go there with a couple of regulars who know all the staff.
It has a great vibe at night. Â They offer Pub Quiz night on Mondays where the place is packed with groups of people struggling over their answers over many pints of beer.
The food is basic Irish food you would find in a pub of the style. Â i have never had any problems with my food.
The servers are nice but can get overwhelmed at nite because the place ges crowded. Â Â Monday and Thursday/Friday nights are usually busy..
The meals will cost you from $5-15 . Â
Overall - I really like the pace because of the good times I have :-) Â Good Food, Great Service, Good Beer.
Never a bad experience at Fado...
I've been going here since my freshman year of college (11 years ago, yikes!) and I am a regular customer. The fish sandwich/ fish and chips are fantastic, especially the chips, which are the perfect combination of soft and crisp. The British condiment tray adds to the experience. The waiters are all massively friendly. This is a perfect place for a lunch, dinner, and especially meals with friends, since you can be as rowdy as you want. :) (And for that very reason, my friends and I go here a lot). Pub Quiz is also a lot of fun. Be sure to sit by the fire in the fall/winter!
Their salmon appetizer is amazingly--and I mean this truly--delicious.
That little starter deserves 5 stars itself, forget Fado!
I went after they'd finished serving dinner here, so I can only go based of the drinks, the price and the ambience. They have a patio and very nice interior decor, especially if you're in a group. There were great touches and an adorable booth which I sat in.
The cider was good, and the Guinness (my first!) was A-OK (though I was told that American Guinness is not as strong as the original).
I'll have to come back at a more reasonable dinner time to rate the restaurant, but I hope the salmon appetizer is an indicator of taste.
Oh, I knocked off 2 stars because this place is PRICEY. That appetizer was $8.95 for 4 crackers with salmon shavings. They also have subscribed to that horrible restaurant/pub/bar trend wherein they do NOT write the prices of drinks, just to make the customer feel a little bit like an arse for asking. It also makes it hard for newer servers who cannot remember the prices of your drinks just yet. I think this needs to be stopped in all restaurants, not just Fado.
I've been to Fado Irish Pub multiple times at this location for a variety of reasons with various people. Â Consistently, our/my experience has been positive and kept us coming back. Â
Perhaps the on draw back for Fado's is that at times it can be quite crowded for a variety of reasons...keep that mind and act accordingly. Â One of the better dinners we've had there has been in the cold of winter, being able to sit by the fire and enjoy the very good food and family/friends) with some ice cold Guinness and assorted Irish whiskeys. Â
Soccer season=this place is slammed busy. Â No surprise there. Â Duh.
The food for myself and all we've had with us has been consistently very good. Â They do have some "traditional" Irish food along with some "modern"/"main stream" dishes to appease all. Â The Irish Breakfast is an excellent staple, always a good default. Â Their steak has been prepared and tasted excellent all times I've had it. Â Point being, food has been and continues to be, very good.
Drinks. Â They're cold, and they've got alcohol in them. Â If you don't like Guinness (or other Irish/Scottish/European beers), don't order one. Â If you do, it's on tap and it's delicious. Â
Service has been consistent. Â Seems that at times the placement of servers to table is somewhat chaotic; but once we've/they've established where we're sitting and who's going to be our server, the response has been much swifter.
Overall, a good Irish pub at an otherwise sometimes painful location (Easton) to go to.  Catch it on the off nights and simply sit back and enjoy the company, food, and drinks.  Sláinte!
Met my husband and a few of his co-workers for happy hour on a Friday afternoon.
My husband did their happy hour deal where you get to choose three items. He got 2 beers and chicken fingers, then ordered a side of fries for a yummy dinner. I decided to get the chicken cheesesteak sandwich with fries. It was tasty, but seemed to be lacking in the mushroom department (it was supposed to be chicken, mushrooms, onions and cheese).
We hung out and had some drinks- beer, wine and even an apple martini (one of my favs). It was a good time. Our waitress stopped by every so often to see if we needed more drinks or food. We decided to have some bread pudding at the end. Another yummy treat!
Overall, good food, good service. I've never been there late-night, but I know they sometimes have live music and they have a huge St. Patrick's Day party!
Fado won me over the other day with its fast, friendly lunch service AND the most delicious Ruben that has ever graced my taste buds.
OMG the Ruben! I was at first mad that it was $9 thinking it would be small and not so great, but I was shocked when it was the perfect size (not measley/not giant) on buttery toasted rye with the perfect amount of Russian Dressing. But, that's not the half of it. The corned beef was AMAZING! It was fresh cut right off of a REAL corned beef cooked in house. It was juicy, tender, flavorful, and thick cut with no fattiness. I am still thinking about how good it was. It kicked Katzinger's Ruben in the butt. It's my new #1 Ruben. Plus, the fries (chips as the English call them) were good too!
The service was fast. efficient. and friendly. She was good with refills too.
My only gripe was $5.62 for a Hoegarten. WTF? It didn't even look like a 16oz draft. So with that, a diet, and 2 Rubens, it was $33 for lunch including tip. That's kinda steep in my book and it was the beer that put it over the top.
And to comment on a fellow reviewer's thought on the scent of smoke in Fado...I think the smoke smell wafts over from the Cigar store next door and it's only noticable upon entering.
So, in my opinion, run, don't walk to Fado for good food and fast service, but be prepared to pay the price for import drafts.
Fado's is one of the easier places to park at Easton. Â There's a large (free) lot across the street. Â I came for dinner this evening. Â The restaurant looks a LOT different than American pubs or restaurants. Â I suppose that's because a lot of was made in England. Â Most of the tables are high and most of the rooms are smallish. Â It's different for sure.
For dinner, I started off with the lamb chops. Â They were good, but VERY small. Â And the waitrress didn't ask me how I wanted them cooked. Â She said they just didn't do that. Â What???
Then I had the macaroni and cheese. Â I was "okay". Â For dessert, I had the bread pudding. Â That was the best course of the day. Â It had dried fruit and other yummy stuff.
On the whole, not a bad meal.
Most "Irish Pubs" are a joke, they are just American bars that serve Guinness. I have only been in two pubs that are decent representations of an Irish pub. Â There is nothing like an actual pub here in Ohio, but this place gets pretty close. It is filled with older furniture, soccer paraphernalia, and traditional Irish imagery. The menu features traditional Irish cuisine; bangers, mash, corned beef, boxty...etc. It also features cool American spin offs of Irish food, like fried Rueben rolls! They feature more than just Guinness as their Irish beers and they have soccer playing on like every TV. This is a plus!
We sat in a little nook in the restaurant with nice dim lighting. We were by an old antique armoire kind of thing and it was surrounded by wooden booths. It was really cool and added to the Irish pub feel. Â Now to the food! I ordered the Rueben rolls and the fish n' chips. Both were excellent and reasonably priced. It was washed down with a great Harp beer! During the meal we were privileged to watch soccer games from all over the world and the pre-game for the Crew match that day. After our meal we left for the Columbus Crew game! Â Great day!
Love this place. I have spent many a dark, icy Columbus night at this pub. Sometimes hammered enough to order a drink and then order another one assuming I'd finished the first one and then mixing the two and ordering a third one. The bar tenders are reasonable enough to point out the obvious.
I know it's a chain. But trust me, in a mall (make belief 'town center') this is the only place I found that wasn't littered with the muppets that think it's their birth right to wear obnoxious clothes and be loud about it.
Also a great place to watch football (with a round ball). They open early mornings for European games, and there's nothing like their Irish breakfast and many beers to start and then quickly pause a Saturday morning.
Try their bangers and mash, and the chicken boxty.
Food loves comes to me in the shape of a boxty dipped in hot, melted cheese. Â The cheese dip and wedges appetizer at Fado keeps my husband and I coming back for more.
The place can be a little confusing for a first timer, but for the most part you walk in and grab yourself a seat. Â A server will spot you, give you menus, come back to take your order and then before too terribly long food and drink will be sitting in front of you. Â Sounds simple, but it took us a few tries to realize that's what happens.
The fish and chips here are good, as are the Smithwick Mini-Burgers. Â It's not the best food at Easton, but I get in the mood for it anyway, and I like the atmosphere. Â It's dark and it smells a little stale but for a pub that's just about right.
Usually you'll find soccer or golf on the tvs which makes the husband happy and I'm content to people watch or stare at the decor. Â I hear trivia night is a lot of fun, but I haven't had the chance to give it a try.
Was in Columbus for work so we decided to check out the world-famous (or at least Ohio-famous) Easton Town Center. After hitting up a comedy show at The Funny Bone, we wanted to eat at somewhere a bit more affordable. I had vaguely remembered that there used to be a Fado in Cleveland but I had never gone there, so when I saw that the prices were somewhat reasonable and the menu looked interesting, we decided to go there.
Wow.
Why did the Fado in Cleveland close? Our meal here was incredible! My wife and I shared the Guinness Mac and Cheese as an appetizer--the sauce worked its way into the shells and the dish was really, really good. For entrees, my wife had the BBQ Chicken Flatbread and I had the Philly Cheesesteak. I don't think the cheesesteak lasted on my plate for more than 5 minutes because I couldn't stop eating it since it was so good!
Our waitress was very attentive too--the weather outside was pretty bad and our waitress made sure that we were able to find a better seat where the rain wouldn't hit us.
I'd definitely go here again. This place was phenomenal...one of the best values I've found in quite some time.
A big shout out to Fado for hosting a bloody brilliant US v England World Cup party on Saturday!! Â I'd been debating several places to go and watch the match and Fado won out because 1) The fact that they were making such a big deal about it. Â That they were doing something special was all over everything unlike some places which were almost like 'sshhh, we're going to have the World Cup on, but don't tell anybody,' 2) This is the closest to a real pub I've found in Central Ohio and I was hoping that all the other fans who felt that way too would be out (and I was right), and 3) They were setting up a tent out back so there would be plenty of room for everyone!
The boy and I got there plenty early and to watch some of the matches that were on before the US and there already was a good crowd of people there. Â The inside was already packed so we decided to grab some seats in the tent out back. Â The projection TV was set up in just the right spot for everyone to see and it was nice that there was a bar set up outside so we didn't have to venture inside. Â Drinks were a bit expensive ($8 for Stella and Guinness) but they were at least full pints and came in a World Cup 2010 cup. Â
One complaint was that the band they had slated to play after the game kept trying to do their mic check during parts of the game! Â People were not happy about that!
I am convinced that if you're serious about football in Columbus, you come to Fado. Â If I couldn't be in South Africa cheering on the team in person, I think this is the next best spot to be.
3.5 stars actually. Â Based on service, Fado gets four stars. Based on just the food, I'd give it just three stars.
I came to Fado for dinner on my first night of a business trip with two other colleagues. We were able to get patio seating. They both had the shepherds pie and Blue Moon. I had the corned beef sandwich and water. Yup. Water. If I had a Guinness I would have fallen asleep at the table after having been up since 5am PST, flying across the country and three time zones. Plus I was a bit dehydrated. The shepherds pie looked really good and it came with a side salad. Â My sandwich came with fries, and it was alright. Nothing to write home about. Â What I did enjoy about Fado's was our waiter. Â He was very attentive, personable and always filled my water glass whenever it became half empty. Since it was our first time in Columbus / Easton Town Center, he took some time to chat with us about the area.
This was just an "eh" for me. Â We wanted to try someplace "new" to us for dinner while in Easton and Fado didn't have a wait.
I think a lot of my "eh" is from the fake smoke smell. Â Columbus outlaws smoking in restaurants and apparently Irish-ish pubs have decided that they must pump in the fake smoke smell to be authentic. Â I guess it's better than being doused in cigarette smoke.
And then my mixed drink tasted like it was made by a 4th grader. Â Waitress never asked me how it was and didn't say anything when she took it away at the end of the meal completely full. Â I'm not one to complain about a bad drink (my theory in life is that if the first one is bad, the second one will be that way too). Â Stick with the beer...plenty of good choices on tap. Â I enjoyed my husband's Harp Lager.
And then the food was just okay as well. Â I ordered the chicken cheesesteak with no mushrooms. Â They got the no mushrooms part right but the sandwich & the boxty straws were cold. Â The other three at our table seemed pretty "eh" as well...not bad, but not particularly good, either. Â I didn't bother with dessert.
Our waitress was okay. Â She seemed prompt at trying to refill alcoholic beverages but not so great at keeping waters full. Â She was slow to clear the table and get us a check.
So, yeah, just "eh." Â Maybe we went on an off night? Â There's too many other really good places in Easton to come back. Â I've been to Kildare's several times (an Irish pub chain in the Philly area) that does a better job at nailing the food & the service.
Don't expect excellent service at Fado Irish Pub unless you're 1) male (sporting a jersey of some sort) and 2) you're ordering drinks. Clearly my dining companion (i.e. my mom) and I failed to meet both criteria during a recent lunch trip.
Fish and chips is a must when in an Irish pub, but chain-wise, Claddagh still holds the award for the best version this artery-clogging comfort food. I personally found FIP's fish & chips rather soggy and just bland in general. As for the Trinity Steak Boxty, nothing on the plate spelled potato pancake (as claimed on the menu.) What was presented, however, was a crepe filled with grilled steak and mushrooms in Stroganoff sauce. The accompanying "seasonal vegetables", you ask? It was a bed of peas and corn that came straight out of the frozen food aisle in a K-Roger near you!
The show stealer were obviously not the entrees but rather the dessert: Black and Tan Brownie with Guinness Ice Cream. Warm, moist, and dense, the two brownie bars complemented the ice cream quite nicely.
FIP perhaps would have been a better dining experience had we not picked the wrong day to check it out, as crowds gathered in anticipation of the Manchester United/Barcelona game. The sound level went from perfectly normal to ridiculously obnoxious (and unnecessarily so) in a matter of minutes that we were left with no other choice but to scarf down the dessert, pay for the check, and make a mad dash towards the exit.
2.5 stars.
I love love love Fado. The food is good, especially for an Irish pub. The main reason my husband and I go to Fado is for the cheese dip and wedges appetizer. Â It's a blend of cheeses that is served with fried bread that is just absolutely delicious. Â My description just can't do this appetizer justice. Â Whenever we are at Easton, Fado is always a stop of ours. Â It's an especially perfect place to go on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon in the spring or summer, sit on the patio, get a pint or two and enjoy the people watching that abounds at the Easton Town Center.
Fado gets 1/2 taken off for being at Easton Town Center because you have to deal with the parking nightmare especially in the summer and at the holidays. Â It also gets another 1/2 star deduction because, like most pubs in Ireland, it is seat yourself. Â Normally this isn't too bad, but when it gets really busy, especially on a Friday night, you have to basically hawk a table, which can be disconcerting to the diners at the table you are waiting for.
