So we were looking to grab a burger whilst in Fayetteville and we were led to Farrell's. The place is a pretty cool sports bar, pretty wide open and like most good sports bars, very loud and covered with TVs. We were able to snag a comfy booth in the back and then took some time to look over the menu. They have many good options and a nice selection of beer too.
Eventually I went with the Hangover burger. For me, a fried egg on a burger is almost impossible to pass up, my kryptonite. But this...it was different. Bacon. Egg. Hash browns. Cheese. A thick, seasoned, flavorful patty. Damn, totally awesome.
After my first bite I said aloud, in my best Jules from Pulp Fiction impression, "THAT IS A TASTY BURGER!" And it was. Oh and the bun is buttered and grilled on the flat top to round things out. Literally the perfect combination of burger for those looking for an all-in-one burger, or as it's name denotes, a hangover cure. The hash brown patty really seals the deal, never seen one served on a burger. The burger patty had a great flavor to it, they have to have a nice seasoning they add to the mix before grilling these up.
Definitely a top burger experience for me and should I be around Fayetteville again, I will be stopping by to try some of their other creations. Appease Jules and have a tasty burger.
Super gastropub on Dickson with a fantastic mix of sports and solid menu. There's not a bad seat in the house to watch a game and there's a good big game atmosphere without the intense college feel of Grubs (appropriate for certain games in it's own right). Â Impressive draught selection and limited but quality menu.
Review Source:We regularly go for lunch and have consistently found Farrell's to be good food, at a great price, and with excellent service. Â The triple lunch specials that include a small sandwich (eg slider, monte cristo), salad (eg iceberg, mixed), and soup (eg potato, tomato) has always been up to our expectations ($8). Â For a great selection of bottled and draft beers, freshly made bar-food, and friendly service -- this is always one of Dickson Streets best venues for a fun (albeit noisy) business lunch.
Review Source:Ok...was in town (from Chicago) for a wedding. Â Stopped in with a few friends for dinner and drinks. Â We were not disappointed!
We couldn't help ourselves so we ordered some of the bacon mac for an appetizer...it was AMAZING! Â So delicious! Â I don't know that I've found mac that good in quite a while! Â
Next up was super cheap beer...yeah, $2 for a bottle of high life. Â Yeah, yeah, I've been known to drink a high life now and again...don't judge! Â Plus, at $2 it's a steal of a deal for the "champagne of beers!" Â If you're more of a beer snob than me, no worries, they have quite an impressive selection on tap and in bottles.
Dinner was the "hangover burger" which was out of this world! Â A crispy hash brown square under a perfectly cooked hamburger patty. Â Topped with lots of bacon, melted cheese and an egg. Â YUM! Â
I'm back in town for work this week and though I'm way up in Bella Vista, I might just make the trip to have another delicious burger and side of mac! Â Well done Farrell's!
Oh, also went back later that night with a larger group and played shuffleboard...so much fun!
Farrell's is a great spot on Dickson Street (and in Fayetteville) for someone looking for a more upscale bar. Â The seating arrangement inside is unique and there are at least 25 beers on tap (Kirin, Abita, a run of Irish Beers and some more craft beers). Â The food is very good and unique for the area. Â The only downfall I saw was the food was a bit overpriced for the area, mainly because the portion size was so small. Â However, I will definitely head back.
Review Source:I want to be clear at the top, why i gave Farrell's five stars. Its not simply for the food or drinks, which are great, but something a bit more important. Â For a town that claims to be artsy and cultural, the food scene here, as a scene, is sorely lacking. Â That's not to say there aren't great restaurants here, there are. Â Herman's is an institution, and Mamma Dean's puts out one of the best plates of food i've ever eaten, to name but two. Â But very few people are doing anything, well, interesting here. Farrell's, along with a couple other outposts, is trying to change that.
To NWA diners who have no experience with truly modern dining, this can be, well, confusing. Â On a recent visit, a woman in the booth behind me was stunned when she got her bill and realized that french fries were extra. Â She even made a point of calling over the manager to argue with him about it. Â Its not like this was hidden information, sprung on her at literally the last minute. Â Its printed on the menu in big bold letters. Â But folks, you are not at Chili's when you step into Farrell's.
And lets talk about the menu itself, for a second. Â I don't mean the dishes on it, I mean the actual thing that the server hands you. Â Yes. Â Its white paper, maybe tucked into a lamante sleeve. Â Some of the reviewers here find that weird, or cheap. Â Its certainly not weird, many of the best meals of my life have been ordered off of menus of a similar style. Â It is, however, cheap, because it has to be. Â Why? Â Because the menu changes frequently. Â Fancy menus, professionally printed, would get just a bit expensive when they have to be replaced over and over again. Â And change, ladies and gentlemen, is good. Â Sure, there are great restaurants that have a menu that hasn't changed in 20 years (the aforementioned Herman's, for instance), and you can get a great meal there. Â But rarely, if ever, will you find anything new, anything innovative, or anything that takes advantage of local and regional ingredients.
Chef William McCormick (full disclosure: Â I know him socially) runs a small, tight kitchen, and puts out consistently great dishes. Â Dishes you aren't likely to find anywhere else in town. Â He focuses on local and regional ingredients, using them to build and contrast flavors. Â The single best thing i've had there was a duck confit crepe around Valentines day. Â Don't know if it will make its way back onto the day to day menu, but if you see it, its an app or a second course, and its fantastic. Â As for a regular player, the bleu cheese burger is top notch. Â It might be my favorite burger in town, actually. Â I take mine cooked medium, and it has never come out under or overcooked...
Special note here to reviewer "Brooks.": Â You are an idiot. Â The person you argued with was a professional cook. Â Someone who is skilled in, you guessed it, cooking. Â Someone who stands in a small, hot kitchen, hour after hour, knocking out consistently great plates of food. Â The same thing, at top quality, every time. Â And yes, they are hot, and sweaty, and sometimes greasy and messy. Â You know why? THEY WORK IN FRIGGIN KITCHENS! Â The real world is not food network. Â And oh by the way, unless i miss my guess, when he brought over that picture, it proved that you were wrong, didn't it?
anyway, the bleu burger is served with a spring mix, a house made fig jam, roasted onions, and bleu cheese. Â its simple, its clean, and its delicious. Â The sweet fig jam balances the sharp cheese, the onions provide a textural compliment to the burger, which is always juicy and properly seasoned. Â The spring mix adds just a hint of peppery bitterness to the mix. Â Together, its a combination of savory and just a bit of sweet that makes for something off the path of the common burger. Â Oh, and get the fries. Â GET THE FRIES. Â They are arguably the best in town, and a reason to eat at Farrell's all on their own. Â The prices are very reasonable, particularly for the quality.
In addition to great food, Farrell's has a fully stocked bar, and one of the best tap walls on Dickson. Â Lots and lots of good quality beer choices, a trend i'm happy to see on Dickson.
Farrell's is a great addition to Dickson street, and to the dining options in NWA. Â Yes, the forward thinking, ever-changing concept can be confusing, and even off-putting to some, but the insistence on fresh ingredients, good flavors, great execution are a god send to a food scene nearly devoid of modern thinking. Â That, along with a cold beer, makes for a great meal.
Horrible.
Never been treated so rudely by a manager before. Will never go back.
I sent back my burger because it was undercooked for medium well. Â The waitress told me that it was taking a long time because they had to make a new one since I had cut it in half.. um... I would hope you would make a new one! Â
The second burger was pinker than the first, little bloody, wasn't even hot in the middle. Â I sent this back as well. Â By then, everyone else was done eating and I was ready to leave and get something somewhere else. Â When our check came, my burger (which i never took one bite of .. nor one fancy french fry) was on the check. Â We had to ask for the waitress to send out the manager. Â The guy that came out was obviously the cook... shirt full of food, greasy messy hair and otherwise gross looking who came out to argue with us about whether or not it was cooked properly. Â I finally had to tell him flat out that it wasn't cooked right, I didn't eat any of it, and I wasn't paying for it. Â THEN this guy had the audacity (and apparently the time in a very packed and busy place) he went online and printed out a picture of a 'medium well' burger to show me... to prove me wrong! Â are you kidding me?! I have NEVER been treated like that anywhere.. and I've been ordering medium well burgers all my life..and only here was it undercooked.
will never ever go back. Â
also way overpriced. Â don't splurge for the parmesean cheese fries... I sampled one of my friends' and it wasn't worth the extra money for it.
Stopped off here for lunch on the way to Eureka Springs. Farrell's was one of the few places open in downtown Fayetteville on a Sunday afternoon. The food was good, and filling and the service was attentive. It took about an hour to get our food though due to a large group of UA Students ordering before us. The staff did explain to us the reason for the wait. (They apparently have a small grill in the kitchen.) When we finally got our food they didn't bring my brother's Philly Cheesesteak, because they hadn't held the onions. The Cheesesteak was quickly replaced, and compted.
Over all a decent experience, but beware if there is a crowd.
We had heard about Farrell's from a friend and thought we'd stop in for an easygoing Saturday lunch. I was expecting greasy and boring bar food, wow, was I surprised. Instead, we found a simple but sophisticated menu of items from truffle bacon fries ( a little too salty but delish), sliders (with Gruyère, yum) and a beautiful field greens salad. With an assortment of over 30 types of beer on draft, you can't go wrong here. They have so many TVs too, this would also be an awesome place to watch a sports game.
Review Source:New spot makes an excellent Dickson Street addition. As a lifelong local, I appreciate a diverse pub with a versatile menu AND $2 Miller Lite drafts... a great deal on Dickson Street these days!
Part sportsbar with enough TVs to play ALL the New Years Day bowlgames, one part pub with tables and booths for engaged conversation. The staff has really been attentive and friendly, the menu is solid burgers and pub grub til 5 when the entrees kick in. Â I'd say Farrells Lounge will become and excellent "go-to" spot for locals and visitors.
Also went here for the AR - Bama football game, but got there before the game and watched the whole game there (didn't even have to wait 5 mins for a table). I'm sure the simple paper menus were for game days to limit the food options and so the good menus don't get trashed. We got cheese fries (pretty good) and the wings that have brown sugar on them (not as good). Game day menus also includes other types of wings, burgers, etc. Not a huge list of food, but all stuff that goes well with a brew and football.
There are lots of tvs and a large projector. There's a pool table and a shuffle board table -- both of which are free. There's a variety of seating which includes the full bar, tall tables, low tables, and booths. We had great service the full 4+ hours we were there.
It was a great place to watch the football game, but might get more crowded for future games now that it's getting more established. I'm not sure what it's like normally since this was the only time I've been (which is why I only gave it 3 stars). I'd have to go during normal hours to see what it's normally like.
UPDATE: I have gone back to Farrell's a few times since my first time in Sept. 2010 and they have really stepped up their game and have some great food and service here. I'm not sure if they have any sort of happy hour but some good drink specials (read beer) would be nice.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: Newly opened as of 9/25/10 when we ate there after the Ark-Bama football game. Great location. Hadn't heard any reviews as it has been open for a few weeks. Had no expectations when we walked in, rather curious than expecting. Somewhat busy and fans were quickly piling in, even Alabama fans which was interesting that they had already heard about it.
We were quickly seated at the shakiest table I've ever sat at. When our server came over she handed us white 11" x 8.5" white paper, a word document, as their menu. Most of the paper was blank, as the menu didn't even make it half way down the paper. VERY limited selections and no graphics or presentation whatsoever on this thing. Blank ink on plain white paper, had never been less impressed.
Ordered drinks, two draft beers and 4 waters for our group of 4, and the server brought us all back our waters and just one beer. Mine was not brought, but it was a draft beer just like my friends. She then came back over and had the wrong beer, which ended up belonging to the table next to us, this was the first of three times she'd mistake our tables. About 10 minutes later she brought my beer, after me asking why the delay and pointing out that my friends draft beer had been delivered much sooner. I asked why the bartender didn't pour the entire ticket's beer. She had about three excuses for this, which included, "I'm sorry, I'm only 20 so I don't pour the beers" and "I've been here all day." My girlfriend, who was with our group and has been a server for seven years, said that was a complete bullshit excuse and wondered why a restaurant would hire someone under 21 to work at a self-described bar and grill.
Atmosphere was wasn't bad, upbeat. Good decor and looked like a wide variety of beers on tap. Pool table and shuffleboard, tons of TVs.
I ordered the Philly Cheese steak, which I never do but the menu was extremely limited like I mentioned, I've never been to Philly but it wasn't bad. Little too much cheese though and some parts of the meat was gristly.
I just added this place onto yelp as it wasn't already, and when I found their website. The menu they list on there is MUCH more extensive than the word doc we were given as our menu. It's almost as if the printer ran out of ink on our menu. So if we would've had the menu from the website, this place would've probably gotten 3 stars.
