Fat Jacks

Hands down my favorite Bar in Bloomington. I am going to write this review with a disclaimer: I am 21 year old male. I don't mind crowded spaces, especially when they are crowded with 21 and 22 year old women. That is all.

Fat Jacks is the place to be on a weekend night. I completely understand college bars not having the best service during peak hours like 10pm till 2am. The staff at Fat Jacks makes it happen. Every interaction I've had with the staff there has been extremely positive.  Bouncers are friendly enough. Bartender's are great. I think Garret(pretty sure that his name) in particular does a great job.

The bar is split into 4 areas for the most part. When you walk in the door there is a large (the main) bar in the middle with 4 or 5 dart boards in the back. Off to the side is a room with a pool table and a couple of couches as well. There is another smaller bar in the room after that. Then there is also the dance floor. Not always my thing, but I'll admit it's pretty cool. Light up squares on the floor, cat walks, etc. There is also another decent sized bar in that room.

Don't go here on the weekends if you're looking for a place to have a great well thought out cocktail. You won't like it.

I gave Flapjacks another chance because some friends wanted to go. Once again, not even five minutes after last call the staff began trying to corral everyone out. I asked when they close and the jerk who worked there said whenever he tells us to leave. My friends and I hadn't done anything to deserve that rudeness. There's no reason to go here when other bars actually stay open until 2 and don't punish you for ordering a drink at last call.

I LOVE this place. It's a bar but it genuinely has something for everyone. it has the main bar area with table seating for those who like the usual bar scene. Then there's lounge seating around coffee tables in the same area as the pool tables that is usually much more mellow and conducive to conversation than the other areas. Finally, there's a dance floor/club scene area in the back. Each area has its own music and its own atmosphere. There's always drink specials. Whether I'm out with fellow college students or bringing my parents out when they visit, I never feel out of place because the age mix is really great. I promise, if you want a fun night with any age or type of crowd, Fat Jacks is the place to be!
