Fiesta Mexicana

Calling this authentic is to ambiguous and misleading. Authentic doesn't necessarily mean good. I can make you an authentic American meal of cheeseburgers and fries, but if the fries are over salted, limp, and oily, and the burger is charred on the outside and raw on the inside....well I think you might get it.

Living in Plymouth, there are multiple options for "authentic" Mexican food.  Milas, Las Palmas, Jaimes Market, Fiesta Mexicana, and Mi Camino. They have very similar menus, and very similar styles of cooking. Shortcuts seem to be favored in all of them. Over salted, overcooked, questionably fresh ingredients, and an overall "sticky" in house dining experience.

I once asked for the hot pepper version of their fajitas. Their way of making it hot pepper version was to take the seed pod from a jalapeno and simply toss it in the meat. I inspected it with a close eye and saw not one peice of actual jalapeno flesh. You can fool alot of people in this town because they are so accustom to second rate food but that was insulting.

On the bright side, the owner and waitstaff are very nice. They always have a smile and will greet you with kind words. Yolanda will even encourage you to try speaking Spanish, and doesn't mind if you mascerate the words in your mind before they even spill out of your mouth.

We go out to eat every other Tuesday when we're in the Plymouth area for another activity. This is, by far, my favorite spot in town of those that we've been to.

It's homey and inexpensive, with authentic Mexican food. It's owned by the extended family of the owners of one of our favorite South Bend Mexican spots - Fiesta Tapatia - and the menu and quality are similar.

Don't be put off by the exterior. It's a fantastic place.
