I came here with a couple of friends before going to the movies and I'm glad we did. First this place is so hidden you wouldn't find it unless you are looking for it. I thought it was going to be empty since its in the middle of a very residential neighborhood but to my surprise it was packed and it took us half an hour to get a table. Â Which was fine we just got a drink at the bar while we waited.
After we got a table we ordered wings and baked clams. The clams were good not the best I ever had but decent, the wings on the other hand were really good. A mix between buffalo and BBQ sauce.
I will be sure to come back next time I'm in the area.
First off, this is a good, little tavern with above-average food and a warm atmosphere. Not a great selection of beer, but if you're thirsty, you won't be shut out. Bottom line, whoever wrote the review that stated that perhaps "the neighborhood" people like fake iceberg lettuce and so on is making false assumptions. Why would we, the "neighborhood people" like fake lettuce?! Does that person also assume that we cannot appreciate top-of-the-line cuisine and spirits either? If your food wasn't to your liking or the beer was warm, then ask for new ones. I'd be surprised if the staff didn't take care of it. But if it was crowded and that's why you had to wait for your food, etc., then try when it's less crowded next time. If you want Morton's Steakhouse, then go to Morton's. I'm from "the neighborhood" (Queens) and I'm a fan.
Review Source:O-M-G! Without meaning to sound cliche, this place is definitely a hidden gem! The bar and dining area are so welcoming. It has such a great vibe. The staff are super friendly and efficient. The beer on tap tasted surprisingly fresh, considering all the other "bottom of the keg" beers we experienced in NY. The food is absolutely amazing. You, honestly, would be blown away by their buffalo wings and their meatloaf dinner. We walked in here expecting the usual bar food, but we were proven wrong. Not only was the food delicious and beer refreshing, but the music selection was amazing. (Classic Rock) The music added to the already outstanding vibe. This place is officially on our "to do" list for every NY visit in the future. I strongly recommend visiting this establishment. And the prices are very reasonable. They even offer a discount if you pay with cash. Also, read up on their history, which is located on the back of the menu. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.
Review Source:Linda was our server. Very friendly service!!!
Buffalo Chicken Wings - MUST TRY!!!! perfectly cooked and super crispy! The sauce is  awesome too! Everything is just right about it!
Black Jack Burger - Meat was cooked very well and super juicy. However, the flavor was very bland. Don't think they peppered and salted it. Had to use lots of ketchup. :
Mash Potatoes - Super fine and creamy. Very garlicy too! YUM.
Overall, service and Buffalo Chicken Wings are the STARS!
What a fun place!!! Â As the other reviewers have said, this place in the middle of a residential area and is kind of an oasis as its the only business for blocks around. Â It is truly a friendly neighborhood Cheers-like bar. Â The bar tenders truly remember you even if you do not come that often. Â Happy hour is fun here (I think its from 4-7)...they feed you...what can be better than that?! Â They put out snackies and then discount the drinks and there is also an appetizers menu! Â Um, yes please! Â I have eaten dinner here as well. Â Had the Blackened Chicken Alfredo and loved it! Â They gave a huge portion! Â
My boyfriend and I have also had brunch here on Sunday afternoon (I think its from 11am- about 2pm). Â They serve a bottomless skillet filled with eggs and bacon, sausage, home fries, English Muffins and pancakes. Â It also comes with a Mimosa! Â Hello!! Â
I must say that I am so glad that I found this place because this neighborhood tends to be a bit boring and its often hard to find chillaxed -good time place to unwind. Â The warm atmosphere can be felt here from the time you come in. Â Yes the place looks a bit old outside and in but that is part of the whole charm of it! Â
Try it!
Was looking for good non-chain wings and my yelp search led me here. I am happy it did. My friend and I came here had wings, mozzarella sticks and nachos all good. The mozzarella sticks came in a cool tray, and were good. The nachos are different, but good and the wings are good kind of like a mix of buffalo and bbq.
Review Source:Perhaps you have to be from this area to appreciate Filmore tavern. It feels very neighborhoody. What drew me here were the pretzels. Service took forever. Â The wait was seemingly endless.
Everyone else seemed to be regulars and they were waited on first. So we waited and waited and waited.
The pretzels were like street cart pretzels they were hard once I finally go them. I had a Salmon salad. But it had fake ice berg lettuce.  Maybe  neighborhood people think that is okay but soggy ice berg and Salmon is not something I want to pay for. My hubby said the beer wasn't cold by the time it came to us and the selection of beer was limited.
The wings  were mediocre.
The fried ravioli was a nice touch since it is a St.Louis specialty.
We uploaded the pictures in April last year. I was thinking we might go back but we just can't bring ourselves to go out of our way to go there again. It isn't bad but not our thing, long waits and mediocre food is not something we want to pay for or go out of our way to get to. Â It is fine if you live here but other wise not a destination restaurant unless you are up for the LONG wait.
What a great place to come to for dinner and drinks! If you don't look out for the sign that says "Fillmore's" you could walk right past it because it blends in with the houses around it. The food is excellent - particularly the tequila poppers, which are green peppers smothered in cheese and fried in batter - and the drinks are strong but not too strong. Our waitress was very friendly and even gave us a round of drinks on the house.
I'll definitely come here again.
One relaxing Saturday night, I decided to take my boyfriend out for dinner. Â He is an Elite member and has accepted the May name challenge. Â I decided to help him out by taking him to Fillmore's Tavern. Â After a long day, it was something close to home and in the right price range. Â
We were seated right away and had a great waitress named Shannon. Â She was bubbly and made us feel very welcome! Â The food was outstanding! Â We started off with the wings as an appetizer-delicious! Â I had the Blackened steak cooked just right with sweet potato fries. Â Wow-melted in my mouth! Â My boyfriend got the swordfish special which he said was reall good and cooked to perfection. Â
We will definitely be back!
Very nice restaurant and atmosphere. The location is hard to find if you are not a local.
The food is a mixed of bar food and diner food. The prices are bit expensive but they give you discount price if you pay in cash. Good portions for the price though. It's better to share a meal or couple of meals. the mozarella salad that was on special that day was very fresh, comes with the vinaigrette sauce and blue cheese dressing on the side. the sampler appetizer was good, taste of the fried shrimp, onion rings, and buffalo wings. Sheppards Pie, came out very fresh and hot. very tasty with a generous portion of meat and potatoes.
My family and I were contemplating on a place for lunch, and they were thinking of a diner. I thought why go to a diner when I could go to Fillmore's, they have all the regular staple diner grub but better. This includes their very fresh, delicious burger that comes with steak fries, cole slow, and a pickle. The cole slaw could use a little more tang while the pickle could have some snap to it, but it's all about the burger - which is still makes up for everything with its amazing-ness. Their wings are very solid as well, not too overly fried till it's dry with a really great sauce to it (not spicy for those wanting to feel the heat).
The salad was very good - huge and fresh and the Shepard's Pie was as good as it gets. They have daily specials. Their draft beer selection could use some more variety, only Bud, Killian's, Blue Moon, and other typical brands but they do seem to have some other bottled selection. The staff was always accommodating, while the ambiance of the place is as chill as it can be with some TV's displaying all the sports.
OVERALL - A solid place for the bar grub, for a beer or two, and for relaxing times, all while watching whatever game is on. Oh, and the BURGER!!
This is a real hidden gem.. Its about 100 years old and tucked away in a residential area which makes it special... The atmosphere is great and I love the exposed brick and bar setting... The staff is just great, and the locals are very friendly !
The wings are my favorite but they have so many other great things on the menu !! This is a casual bar like setting with a dining room in the back... It's great for games and gatherings and is not too expensive.. Go watch football or hockey with friends order a beer or mixed drink share the wings and have a burger .. I think you will be quite pleased !!!
Named after Millard Fillmore, this place has been around for over 100 years. Â Sadly in my 30 plus tears living in the area I'd never been here until recently. Â Now I can say that I have a neighborhood spot that I can walk to that has good drinks and food.
The place is split up into two sections the bar which is in the back and the restaurant that's in the front. Â The bar is always hopping but the bartenders keep it moving freely. It's a great spot to grab a drink after a long days work. Â The restaurant has about 80 or so seats and has that classic tavern look.
On my most recent trip the GF and I decided to eat here on a sat night. Â We were seated right away and the waitress, Shannon, was excited to hear that it was our first time eating there. The staff here is great. They really make you feel as if you are one of the family. I felt as if I had been coming there for years wit the way they treated us. It was really really great.
As for the food I decided to get some wings because of all of the other great Yelp reviews. Â They were right on the money. Not as hot as I like them ( but that's because I'm a sadist when it comes to spicy) but perfectly cooked with a nice smokey sauce that they come bathed in. Â For our mains I got one of the specials that was swordfish with a salsa that had corn and black beans all on top of Mexican rice. Â They really know how to cook here. The fish was cooked perfectly with the right amount of spice and very moist. the rice too was cooked well with a nice kick to it. My GF got the blackend steak. That too, was cooked to perfection. It came out on a sizzling platter along with some sweet potato fries. Â Our waitress Shannon even brought out some honey mustard that she said went well with the fries and it did.
All in all a really great place with fantastic people working there. Definitely a neighborhood joint that's worth a shot. And with the quality eat they are putting out, you just might become a regular too. I know I will.
Been coming here for a few years now, and I'm finally getting around to writing a review.
Would you believe this place has been here for nearly 100 years? I'm a little ashamed of myself because I've lived in the area my whole life and I hadn't a clue about Fillmore's until a few years ago.
This is a really nice pub/restaurant, full bar, always games on and great food. Usually busy but never crowded, and always friendly service.
This is the truest incarnation of a neighborhood bar, but in the positive "Cheers" sense, and nothing at all like the nearby Cheap Shots. I could elaborate, but I digress.
Fillmore's is a lovely place, and I'll continue to be a fan.
This past Friday night, I was craving good bar food, and since it was a night before St. Pat's day, I wanted to avoid any craziness. Â So, went on Yelp to search for one closeby, and Fillmore's came up. Â Based on the reviews and seeing the location of this bar, I just had to hit this place up.
The bar is tucked in a residential neighborhood. Â Honestly, I would never have expected a bar to be in that location. Â Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, I knew that I had to look for the pathway to the left of the bar, that leads to the back for the entrance.
Every table and stool at the bar was taken, but lucky for us, there was one table available. Â So, it wasn't crowded; a good amount of people. Â We were greeted warmly and seated immediately. Â It's March Madness, so they had the game on on every tv. Â There's a main bar area, and then towards the "front of the house", there is a dining area. Â The bar was your typical bar - clean, and the lighting was perfect - not dark, but not too bright.
Our server told us the specials before we looked at the menu, which was really nice of her. Â We ordered the Black Angus Burger (that came with cole slaw and steak fries - about $9), and the March Madness special of 16 wings for $8 (the wings came with bread and butter - celery & bleu cheese). Â And a round of Blue Moon. Â Omg, the food was DELICIOUS!! Â I never expect much from bar food, but that was GREAT bar food. Â They cooked the burger exactly how I wanted it - medium - and it was tender. Â And usually, I'm not a huge fan of saucy wings because sometimes they come out too sweet or too salty. Â However, their wings are DIVINE!! Â Perfect amount of sauce, the perfect touch of sweetness. Â Wow!! Â It just felt good to have GOOD and AFFORDABLE food/drinks. Â
I read other reviews about other items on their menu, and I really want to try their Sunday brunch.
This is now one of my favorite bars, and I WILL return!! :-)
It reminds me of CHEERS ! Everyone knows who you are .My family and I have been  eating at Fillmore's for over 10 years . They have a yummie Sunday bottomless skillet for brunch . They come up with the BEST specials . Portabella mushroom fajitas are off the hook . I LOVE their baked clams & stuffed mushrooms . My kids have gone from the kiddie menu to the regular menu . The staff is friendly and on top of things . I love that it is local to me so I can drink and not worry about driving . We made it our xmas eve place to be !
Review Source:Went back to this place again last night and the food is even better than I remembered.
Their wings are still the best. I've tried tons of places and no one comes close. Also decided to try their Stuffed Mushroom this time, and it was excellent. Some of the best mushrooms I ever had!
One small complaint - Â their service was very slow yesterday. Waited about 20 to get a table. Once seated the waitress took our order right away, but the food took a long time to come. Other than the slowness, the waitresses working here are super friendly.
Either way, based on their food and friendly service, I'm going to update my rating to 5 stars.
So I am here at flmore's. It feels like a great bar,. Nice and friendly bartender and down to earth place:). A couple of tv screens in the back of the bar It is a perfect place in the middle of houses quite neighborhood .it has a diner area too! I will come back for the food . Decent place for a drink . Kind of young clientele today but only today !
Review Source:I'm giving this place 5 stars because of it's wings. Â All of their food is good and their service is friendly; the place is pretty clean as well. Â However, being from upstate (the real upstate, not Westchester), I find it really hard to find decent wings in NYC. Â These wings are a little different than upstate wings, but they are equally as good (I can't believe I am typing this). Â On top of this, I like that when I order a beer on tap, it's nice and cold. Â It seems like too many places serve warm beer in NYC and this, thankfully, is not one of them. Â
Have I mentioned that the wings are really good? Â You should try them.
Food is not good. Bartender is mostly drunk and unfriendly ( Dennis ) . Wings are about it for good food there... They had my last review erased . Don't be fooled it's a White trash Bars.. See the Health Dep. Website see for yourself . Look at the kitchen window before you walk in....
Review Source:I made my way here with a buddy for some late afternoon lunch and drinks. Â This place is tucked away in between residential houses and is a sure fire hidden gem. Â The staff is super friendly and the bar has a great vibe. Â It feels like a cozy neighborhood Irish Pub with very reasonable prices. Â We ordered beers and wings that were great. Â They have a separate dining area to the right of the bar which serves traditional American bar food. Â Â We only had beers and wings but I am told the dinners are fantastic here. Â Overall this is a great place to hang out drink, eat and have a blast.
Review Source:Ok I stumbled on this place via Yelp a few weeks ago and NEEDED to check it out
My friend and I decided to do dinner on a Friday night and check out the bar after. Â OMG is this place AWESOME. Â I had the bourbon chicken and he had the Salmon, totally great portions and tasted great. Â Went back a few weeks later and had the shrimp boat, another WIN! Â The shepard's pie left something to be desired for my friend though
The have a diner's appreciation club that you will most certainly want to get in on as they offer great deals as you hit different spending tiers!
Sassy Shannon is my favorite specialty drink they have
When you drink at the bar, they typically have pretty good buy backs, and the people there are usually regulars and love to talk to new faces.
They also have Karioke the last Saturday of the month with Franki-oki
I absolutly LOVE this place and love the fact I have a nice place to take my friends when they come visit me in queens and we want to drink heavily. Â Prices and people are awesome!
I've passed by many times wondering what it's like at this bar right smack in the middle of residential Fresh Meadows. One day a fellow alcoholic called for a few drinks due to a "rough day". He suggested Fillmore's because he's literally down the block and I'm just a 2 minute drive away.
We befriended an awesome bartender Judy and she just kept the drinks coming. Despite it being low-key and in Fresh Meadows I had fun!
Since then I went back quite often and brought new patrons to enjoy the generous buyback and food. Who would've thought they had good chow? Sandwiches, fries, wings, steak, popcorn shrimp, stuffed mushrooms, etc. Just your staple bar foods but well made and tastey.
Best of all? The prices; a night of heavy indulgence in food and drinks only leaves your wallet $40 lighter.
One day I will go and try out the bottomless skillet Sunday brunch, who's with me?!?!
I'm a local, so I had to try it. I saw it one day when I was jogging up that way, and was surprised that there was a bar in the middle of a completely residential neighborhood.
Well, I thought that it was kind of slovenly that some patron had eaten most of the bar peanuts and left all the shells on the floor, but the bartender tells you to do that-- fine with me! adds to the quirk of the place.
The place was freaking packed for dinner on a Sat night. We had to wait like 45 minutes for a table and by the time we got our food we were so full from the beers and peanuts we had while waiting first for the table and then for the food (the kitchen was backed up). The stuffed mushrooms were amazing, and the entrees were good, but I think I might have been too full to have fully appreciated them...
Since I went from the bar to the table to the bar, I didn't get the buyback that was owed to me... and that made me sad.
Cheap drinks, generous with the buybacks, friendly bartenders - all typical for your neighborhood pub. However, the real surprise here was the food! They have all your bar faves- wings (theirs are seriously delicious), fries (sweet potato AND regular, both perfectly cooked), popcorn shrimp (crispy, perfectly fried, and not greasy) but they have more upscale sandwiches and dishes to satisfy your hunger as well. The bartender recommended the Cleveland Sandwich , which is essentially grilled chicken with cheese and bacon, but she said she usually has it on pita - and she said it's awesome because of the house made honey mustard that it comes with. I'm glad I listened to her, because the grilled chicken was tender and that honey mustard was slammin'!
Would come back for sure for low key local nights - and brunch looks good too!
In an unassuming location, right smack in the middle of a Fresh Meadow's residential area, lies your average looking pub. The lack of windows and out of the way location (for non-locals) keeps their secrets inside.
A few friends and I decided to unlock those secrets and hit up Fillmore Tavern on a rainy Friday night. The small dining area was packed and rightly so. The bar food surpassed our expectations for typical pub fare. The food is fresh, cooked well and rather delicious. We stuck to bar basics like wings, burgers, popcorn shrimp, & sweet potato fries though a couple people in our party ordered and enjoyed their steaks.
You can always expect cheap(er) drinks in Queens. We walked out full with food, a few drinks each and our wallets only $40 lighter. There are many great pubs in the city but this one clearly stands out. It's not a culinary destination but a haven for those in the neighborhood looking to relax with a cold one without really leaving home.
A nice local American restaurant/bar!
I used to pass this place while going to work or coming back home, and I was always afraid of trying to get in. Why? You will know if you see the place from outside; there is no big window people can see through. There are only walls and blinded windows. cannot know what's going on there. Scared.. let's stay away.
One day, one of my colleagues talked about this place. He said it was a nice place and his company loved the food there. Ok, he gave me enough confidence! My adventurous ego couldn't get me away from the restaurant, and yes I did it. I brought all my office-mates to the spot. Yes I told you I am a mean lunch planner! :P
Do you remember those movie scenes that when a cowboy gets in a bar people there look back at him? and give the look? like "Who the hell are you?" We got that as we got in to the bar. Old people having glasses of cocktails and chatting quietly at the bar and the bartenders being busy serving things. Cool Cool! We were led to the dining area which I loved! Looks very cozy and warm like home.! YAY!
Food-wise, I loved their burgers. I had Blackjack burger which is blackened THICK patty and jack cheese(?). Its category is not 'Sandwiches.' It is 'Sandwedges.' The patty was very juicy and thick! I loved it! Nice fries too! One of my office mates had pasta from lunch special, but he said it was ok.(I thought burger is the restaurant's specialty so I tried burger.)
Next time, I will visit this place again.. at night! for burgers and drinks! ;)
p.s: The entrance is tricky. What you see it not real! :P
I seriously want to kick myself. Â I've lived in this neighborhood (Fresh Meadows) almost my entire life. Â I've passed this pub countless times. Â I'd never gone in until last night. Â I can't belive this cozy pub for "locals' has been here all the time and I've been missing out ... especially since I've been a "local" forever. Â The service is friendly, the patrons are friendly ... we only had beer and wings but are planning to go back soon for a full meal. Â We like that there's a pub area for when my husband I want to hang out and there's a dining room when we want to go with the kids. Â Can't wait to try the food and let you know how that goes. Â BTW, the wings were awesome!
Review Source:Tucked away on a side street a block from the highway, you will find an old fashioned neighborhood bar. Â This is your modern day Cheers, equipped with Norm Peterson on the stool. Â Its an Irish Pub with a good supply of pints and spirits. Â The bar side has unlimited shelled peanuts to go with your drinks and there are a few TVs so you can check out whatever game is showing. Â The walls are covered in various cartoon sketches of the staff and patrons. Â Getting a seat in the dining area can take a while because the locals love it here...for good reason. But lets get to the nitty gritty.
The food is good, the table service is very pleasant and the prices are right up my pocket's alley. Â Go in on Sunday morning for the brunch ($8 per person includes an unlimited skillet with bacon, sausage Links, scrambled eggs, english muffins, eggo waffles and home fries) and stuff your face with a bunch of friends. Â If you go in for dinner, split an appetizer (they are a good helping of food) and go with the specials of the day. Â The drinks are named after the waitress staff so get her name and have her kick it up a notch.
Its worth your dime if you're in the neighborhood.
Man, every time I get dragged out against my will to this local pub (yes, it is an Irish pub) by my friends, somehow I end up having the best time. Â Sure, my amazing friends' company is what makes the night stellar, but the place itself deserves much credit as well. Â FIllmore's is small but cozy. Â It's got just enough space to entertain the locals looking for a casual night of beer (good bear, at that - from what I hear), unlimitedly available peanuts (in shells), down-to-earth food (AMAZING chicken wings!), and live music (many of the nights of the week).
In the back, there is a "restaurant-like" seating area where patrons come by for a sit-down dinner. Â But most people adore this place as a local pub. Â I'm not one to order more than one drink, but the bartenders have always been a great sport regardless.
Now that I've moved to about 15 minute walk away from Fillmore's... I shall satisfy my chicken wing cravings quite easily.
