1st time trying a Firehouse Subs in IN (had been once before many years ago close to Stetson U in FLA).
This place is very good. Different from Penn Station too.
We both had hot subs on whole wheat roll. That's where I want to start - awesome bread, fresh and tasty!! Really made the order.
The menu grabbed me by the back of neck and shook me to the core on seeing the NY Steamer - wow, hot pastrami and corned beef on the same sammy! Had to try - 2 great tastes that taste great together - and with provolone. Â My only complaint was that it needed a bit more deli mustard but an awesome 1st run. This place isn't trying to be anything more than it is - a darn good and unpretentious joint.
SHE anxiously held back and got a plain old hot roast beef sandwich loaded. AND loved it!
Both of us had medium sandwiches $5.69 each (menu standard) - large is only $2 more. If She had better taste and liked pastrami we'd get a large and share!!
4 stars. Do it again and I'll bump to 5 (and am fully expecting to do so).
The sandwiches aren't bad; we liked the Italian sub better than the meatballs, which tasted just like the ones from subway. Â (Which I like, but I prefer different chains to have slightly different-tasting food. Â They were out of straws, ice, and cup lids though, and I'm not sure if the soda machine (the one with the touch screen that allows you to choose between many different kinds) was working; the cherry-lime whatever tasted like it *should* have been carbonated--and a staff member told me it should have been--but it clearly wasn't. Â Twice. Â The people who got soda said theirs was carbonated.
It's another variation on "sub sandwich chain."
