Yummy! I visited this restaurant with my husband and uncle (a longtime San Clemente resident) for lunch. It was a beautiful day and we wanted to enjoy the views of the pier and the beach. Although all the beachside tables were taken (the weather brought everyone out for lunch), we still had a great time and a tasty meal. I ordered the seafood salad which was delicious! Lots and lots of seafood, including an oyster on the half-shell, mussell, bay shrimp, larger shrimp, crab meat, and a piece of mahi-mahi. Yummmm! My husband had the fish and chips and a bowl of clam chowder, both of which he said were really tasty. We all had bloody marys which were also delicious. Our waitress was also really nice, friendly and attentive. I noticed quite a few people remark about this restaurant being a "tourist spot," but with the location you have to expect that visitors are going to want to experience the views and soak up the sun. My uncle has lived in San Clemente for thirty years and likes the restaurant, so that should tell you something. I recommend Fisherman's Galley to all San Clemente visitors or residents! Yummy!
Review Source:After getting woken up at 11AM by a "I'll be there in an hour" phone call, I must say I was not in the best of moods to go eat a deep fried lunch. Â However, seeing how excited the BF was to show me the darn San Clemente Pier was reason enough to put on my Friday morning best. Â
We got to the pier at around noon on a Friday and the parking lot was already a bit hectic. Â I couldn't believe huge monster-truck sized vehicles were trying to squeeze in, what was clearly, spots designed for cars of compact size. Â
The restaurant itself! Â It was very cute and had lots of outside seating. Â Plastic chairs, but who can ask for more when I'm sure the ocean air would eat away at everything else.
Food -
Clam Chowder in a bread bowl: Â The clam chowder was good. Â I like mine thick and a little salty. Â There weren't as many clams as one would hope for, but I let it go. Â The bread bowl, on the other hand, was not all that. Â I think I'm just used to the hard, crusty, sourdough bread from San Francisco... This loaf seemed like just that, a loaf of white bread from Safeway.
Fish & Chips: Â He got this one. Â I was pleasantly surprised by the freshness of the fish. Â I'm usually not a big fan of this dish, but it really wasn't bad at all. Â The fish was devoured, but many fries were still left on the plate... I think it was because they give you about 2 fistfuls of the stuff.
Overall: The food was pretty OK, the view was beautiful, and I really want to come back for their Sunset Hour (happy hour) and get my $1 oyster on.
Cheap beach eats! Â
I was at a beach, so I was expecting to pay for some highly priced junk food like at certain theme parks (cough Disneyland cough Knotts). Â I ended up getting some chili cheese fries for 3 bucks. Â It was kinda like looking at an upgraded high school cafeteria menu where everything there tasted exponentially better than that crap we had years ago. Â
I came back later b/c a friend recommended getting the rootbeer float, which BTW hits the spot on a scorching summer day. Â I was amazed at how well the float kept it's carbonation. Â Sip after sip was glorious fizz and creaminess till the last drop. Â They used vanilla soft serve, which i thought was weird b/c it wasn't REAL ice cream, but it worked out great.
Alrighty... so it took me a LOOONG time to figure out the actual name and address of this place in order to review it! Â It is located in front of the pier on the "boardwalk" near the side where restrooms are located.
I had misplaced my receipt and checked credit card records online only to find that the two don't even match with regard to name! This place is still owned by the more well known Fisherman's Restaurant but used to be called "The Crab Pot Restaurant and Beach Eatery". Â Now, you'll find similar-looking awning and the same structure as seen in the photo, but the name "Fisherman's Galley" is there instead.
This is your nicer-than-average beach snack shack right by the San Clementer Pier in an area called the the "Pier Bowl". Â The location is located right in front of the train tracks of the nearby Amtrak station. There is a small area for seating.
The menu is fairly limited but there isn't just your standard fare of bad-for-you goodness. Â I ordered a tuna salad sandwich for $7.34 incl. tax at the first window (near the center). Â Then I was instructed to wait for my order number at the window on the far left, which a young lady so nicely announced by bringing up an actual microphone to her mouth! Â I found that amusing, gathered my fare, some napkins and went off to sit on the beach with my peeps.
The sandwich was decent with nice grilled wheat bread with actual grill marks on it! Â Tuna was a bit salty for my taste, but the lettuce/tomato/onion inside were fresh and tasty complements.
You can't beat the convenience factor or pricing given the other food options on the pier (unless you like bait, then it's cheapy worms and such for you at the other "snack shack" on the pier!).
