Where do I even start. We arrived around midnight, place was packed. Headed straight to the bar. Standing at the bar for over 10 minutes with no bartender  anywhere. It finally got to the point where I had to ask a guy sitting at the bar if there were any bartenders even working there. Finally, a bartender appeared... walked right past us, took a long pull off her Jack & coke, and proceeded to make drinks for someone else. I grabbed her attention and attempted to order. She stopped me mid sentence to say  "All the karaoke singers need to be served first."  Mind you, none of them were waiting at the bar. Terrible service here. Had one drink and split. This place needs help. I will never return and I don't recommend it to anyone.

This bar would be a pretty cool place if it wasn't for the horrible bartender. We went there the other night and she could not get a single thing right! My finance ordered two chilled crown shots and she brought us tequilla? Then she tried to tell him that is what he ordered. Uh, first of all, neither of us drink tequila! Yuck! And second of all, being our first drink of the night, I think we were coherent to know what we were ordering! After trying to make us take the shots we didn't want, she finally brought us what we originally ordered. Then we ordered beers for everyone and just sat there drinking those for a while talking. My finance then went to order another round of shots of us (Mind you this would only be our second shot and one beer deep. Unless you are a complete light weight, you can handle yourself after this little bit of alcohol.) So he goes to order the shots and the bartender says (pointing at me and my friend) "They can't have anymore. Actually, they need to leave." Excuse me? I'm sure there will be plenty of people reading this that are going to say "well you guys were probably acting stupid." Trust me, I will admit when I act stupid and this WAS NOT one of those nights. We had literally just been all sitting there talking, laughing, and having a good time! It was absolutely RIDICULOUS. This lady has problems and I'm not quite sure what it is. Drugs, body image issues? Who knows, but there is def something wrong there. Like I said in the beginning, if it wasn't for this lady the bar would be pretty cool. We LOVE dive bars and go to them all the time, but this is def not on my list to return until she is gone! I guess whatever you do, don't go there on a Monday night when the older blonde chick is working!

$3.50 for a vodka tonic!?  Nice!   I usually call my vodka, but not tonight.  Wanted to see what this place has to offer with their divey-ness.  I went to meet my brother there with his LBC pool  league & bar buddies, so I knew most of the people there.  There were a few regulars at the bar, but we were at the tall tables.

I took dinner for us and I heard the bartender tell the regulars, "ah, she brought her snacks."  Heck yeah I did, that was one question I had for my brother... "Is there food there, or can I take my own food?"  I even took enough to share with a few peeps.

As mentioned in other review, the people watching is great!

There was a debut for karaoke on Thursday nights.  Had a great time.  Maybe I'll sing a couple of songs next time.

Let me say what makes this place great to go to is the people and the staff. I gave it 4 stars cause in all honestly every drink I wanted to order it seemed they didn't know how to make it BUT they did make it after my sister (a bartender) told them how :) We went on a night there was karaoke! We sang out hearts out danced with strangers & had a good ol' time. we are definitely going to be going back! Can't wait!

    Five star Dive AWESOMENESS!!!
The drinks are ALWAYS strong here.
The locals are a people-watcher's *delight*.
If you're a douche bag or THE hot girl who wants to be seen.....
you will absolutely HATE it. Nobody CARES how cool you are,
or there to throw petals at your feet.

Part sketchy people. Part friendly but above all...
they are all MORE than down to cheer you on like the rock star you are when you karaoke. Nobody to impress here, so trust me....
    BRING IT! They love it!!!
J'DORE the DECOR! Especially the night sky mural behind the bartender. I wanna shake the hand of whoever made that masterpiece.
The rest is just dive standards of games to pass the time and rickety chairs/tables, but with their prices you don't mind spilling a lil here & there.

Last time I went....I realized there's a bookshelf next to the bar with TONS of books. I asked the bartender what they were doing there and she said with a COMPLETELY straight face....
    "People like to read 'em."
I love the "normality" of that response.
I'M the crazy one for asking, YEEEEEEES!!!!

If you are looking for the worst bar in Long Beach this is it.

Normally I dig these places. I don't mind the grime and misery. However, when the locals start ripping into you just because you were not alive during the Eisenhower administration, thats not cool. This place blows.

Dive bar, so much the epitome of one, should be found in the dictionary under definition of 'dive bar,' with picture included.  Could model for Moe's Tavern on the Simpsons.  Hardly any signage in the lot, except smallish white sign with black 60s lettering, from the Lakewood Blvd. side.  If you turn in from Carson Side, there is no signage, and you think you may have been sucked into a time warp, because you just enter, and voila!  A dive bar complete with weathered bar furniture and dark blinds, woodish furnishings, jukebox, that all seem they've seen many patrons and lots of smoke throughout the years.  Some TVs but not the trendy flatscreen kind.  Hey ,they're keeping it real here! They do have a library in here which is unusual, but cool.  Drink and read!  Big sign in here as you walk in says "NO SMOKING," so this is not a smoking bar anymore (fine with me).   Pool tables, lots of game machines, jukebox, chatted with a friendly regular, nothing really gross about this place but it is a weathered dive.  I like it. Reminds me a bit of the Village Pub in Pedro, but safe and without the stabbings in the lot, except it does have about three beers on tap, (Village Pub does not have any taps that I can remember), and the Amber Bock they had on tap was good.  The bartender seemed like he was in a bit of a bad mood when we came in, but he warmed up to us after the first round, and all was well.  Pretty decent dive, its own parking lot, you don't have to park on the street, and good pricing (3 domestic pints for $10).  Cash only, but they have an ATM.   Would like to try the busier nights.  We came on a pretty slow Tuesday night.

i was gonna knock off a star for the fact that they no longer allow smoking indoors, but the fact that my jameson7up was roughly 5/6ths whiskey, for $4, is just too amazing to not give them 5 stars.  flite room for the win!

I do enjoy going out the The Fliteroom for a cocktail, cigar and lounging by the fire place.  Reminds me of Max's Steiner but a lot more, uh... safe feeling.

They need to do one of those Long Beach loop bits here so you can get hammered and fly right back to town with a good story or two.  Otherw.  Its essentially in Lakewood and has great atmosphere.  It has seen its day but now that afterglow has since faded and all is left is moribund 60's fixtures interrupted by flamboyantly masculine beer sponsor football advertisements that are really off-putting.  If they removed those lil pieces of flare and got rid of the tv's, I'd give it a 5 mos def.

The Flite Room is my frickin jam.  I love this place.  The last time my dad (who lived in Long Beach when he was in his 20s and 30s) came to visit me, I took him here, and he said it reminded him of the bars he frequented in LB in the '70s.  Never a bad thing.

Long Beach is riddled with bars that are crowded with pretentious hipper-than-thou assholes trying to outdo each other with their coolness.  I don't have time for that.  When I go out at night I want to get drunk and make a fool of myself.  I can do that at the Flite Room without the risk of anyone I want to impress seeing me, because there ain't anyone you need to impress hanging out here.  Instead, the Flite Room's clientele are laid back, working-class folks without any hip agenda -- they just want to knock back some cocktails, talk smack with the regulars, and maybe play some pool or sing some karaoke.

Pam is the bartender on Saturdays and sometimes on Fridays and she is one of the nicest bartenders in Long Beach.  The other bartenders are a little surly, but Pam makes up for it.  Ask for her special White Russian.

There's karaoke on Fridays with Doug and on Saturdays with a lady KJ whose name I forget.  I prefer Doug (he's a little more laid back -- the lady KJ gets very concerned about the well-being of her karaoke equipment and will try and muscle the mic away from anyone who appears slightly less than sober).  I like doing karaoke here because no one's trying to impress anyone else and the range of song selections and singers is hilarious and entertaining.  Also, you can count on the other patrons to really get into your jam if you pick a crowd-pleaser.

Drinks are stiff and cheap.  The regulars are nice and hilarious.  You can smoke inside which is awesome.  And it's pretty much guaranteed that you'll get drunk.  I love Flite Nites!

Great Bar. Lotto tickets, smoking, this place puts all those lame-ass hipster "dive" bars to shame.

Dump.Filthy,smoke-filled dive.Like the good ol' days.I enjoy a dark, dirty, smokey bar.But I defy you to find a bigger J-off behind the bar.Shamu may be the owners son,but that's no excuse. It's probably a great place sans "chubbsy wubbsy".I'll never know,'cause I'll never go back.Too many choices in the area to put up with mistreatment.Put a minus sign in front of that one star.

Been coming here for a loooong time.  Karaoke on Fridays....  Doug, the KJ is good at what he does.  Gets kinda crowded after nine or so.    Karaoke on Saturdays is good, it's not as crowded, and the bartender, Pam, is a nice lady.  The Batender on Fridays can be a bit rough around the edges when you first meet him, but once you get to know him, he's actually pretty cool.  It is big time smoky in there.  Always.  It's definitely old school dive bar.  Skanks and weirdos, sometimes, but some really good people come in there regularly, including myself.  No credit cards accepted, but there is an ATM.  Also has 2 pool tables, and a little "library" that used to be a phone booth.

I've only been here twice on Saturday afternoons for the weekly trivia game, but I like what I've seen so far (for the most part):

    Yays:

1.) You won't run into anyone you don't want to see here. Unless you don't want to see middle-aged chainsmokers or trashy drunk women with teased hair and cowboy boots.
2.) There's trivia every Saturday at 1:30 pm. It's a blast, and you can win money, cheesy .99 cent store prizes (such as a box of Magnum condoms or a doo rag), and even a round of drinks!
3.) They offer cheap drinks. Domestic beers are $2.75--can't beat that!
4.) The bathroom is the best dive bathroom I've ever been in. I was expecting it to be disgusting and odorous, but it was actually quite clean.
5.) They have a mini-library where you can borrow/donate books.

    Nays:

1.) People chainsmoke inside and there isn't much ventilation--it's like being in a nicotine death chamber.
2.) You might find a dead insect in your ice cube.
3.) The booths are in dire need of reupholstering. Sitting in a booth here is like sitting on a broken mattress with springs flying every which way.
4.) You'll probably have to take a shower when you get home or before you go anywhere else--unless you like smelling like a walking ashtray.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Flite Room. I just can't ever forget coming here with my friend and his Mom to pick up his Dad after his post work (building DC-10s at Douglas) beer turned into 7 or 8 and he couldn't drive home.

It's really lost something on those days. Since Long Beach has an incredible stock of truly great dive bars, it's merely average when compared to its competition.

I love coming here on Saturday afternoons and getting a leg up on my evening drinking.

This gets 5 stars based on the fact that Im rating it by glorious dive bar standards.

The ultimate dive of long beach. But, it's close to the airport (hence the name), so it's a drive for me. My suggestion is to go around 9 or 10, get your dive bar kicks for a couple of rounds and come back.

Thumbs up by dive bar standards.

*Indoor smoking. gross.  (I smoke, but dont like to smell like it, so this is bitter sweet.)

    *60's / 70's (?) decor. Stunning. I love it.

*Darts. Awesome. I used to be on a dart league. I fit in perfectly.

*Pool. Sweet. I played pool with these two butch ladies my first time. They even had their own sticks and chalk! Rad!

*Pitchers of beer. Believe it or not, this isnt as easy for me to find as it used to be.

*Karaoke. Please have the recovering 70 year old drug addict sing you that new Tim McGraw song, "blue" something or other...I dont know, I dont listen to country, but it's oh so sweet.

*Creepy dudes that hit on you. Normally this is annoying, but here, it's more entertaining then anything.

*People watching. What in the white trash is going on right now? Fabulous.

Recommendation: Don't come with too many  people. When you walk in, it's obvious you're not a regular. Try to fit in as best as possible, to get decent treatment from the bar goers as well as the bartenders.

I have been driving by this bar for a long time. What caught my eye was the 60's googie-ish lettering on the sign, and the fact you can't see at all what you're getting into when walking into this bar. No windows, no real light, my kinda barfly spot. Since it is the Flite Room and near the airport, I figure this was probably a place that the major carrier pilots used to hang out (hopefully AFTER their flights) and drink Martinis and Manhattans and tell pilot stories.

3 of us were out doing some housewares shopping at the Cost Plus down the street, and we decided on stopping in for a Sunday afternoon (or was it still considered morning?) drink. It was exactly what I expected, dark, a bit run down, and well full of alcohol and weirdness.

The bartender working that day was a hoot. Wish I could remember her name, but she was just going a mile a minute. I said I wasn't sure what my poison would be that day, and she quickly floated me 4-5 1960's cocktail books. "Here, pick something out!" It was funny because if you don't know, a lot of the old cocktail books use ingredients that nobody would stock in a bar these days. Like fresh eggs and bitters, and stuff like that.

Regardless, she did her best to entertain, gave us lemons from her tree that she had brought in for the taking, cranked the jukebox up to ear-bleed level and we ended up drinking for a few hours. Our tab almost blew our head's off... It was like $25 bucks or something! Totally nutty, since one was drinking martinis - which you know priced anywhere else are usually very steep.

Ambience? Not much. It's got a pool table, a juke box, and a fireplace. They have a library where you can borrow books, funky. I imagine a lot of the neighborhood drunks hang out here and wander home. My smoking friends were happy to hear they didn't mind them lighting up (and provided ashtrays). Shhhhh, this is a secret! Please don't report them!

I would probably hang out here if it was my local haunt. Being that I would have to drive home from this spot (and would be an expensive cab) I don't know how much "airtime" I'll be getting in the Flite Room.
