First off I would like to say the food was AMAZING, however... we did wait an hour and 20 minutes for our table (which was understandable for a Friday night), at first we waited an hour and the table that was available was right next to the front door, so we asked the hostess if we can be somewhere else, and he was more than willing to accommodate that. Â
Second, the waitress was the rudest waitress we have ever experienced. Â My boyfriend and I were ready to order, and we even told the waitress we were ready. Â Instead of happily taking our orders, she forced us to hear the specials in which we had no interested in. Â So as politely and as patiently we waited to listen to the specials. Â As she was done giving us the specials, she left without asking what we wanted. Â We became irritated, and luckily the hostess came to check on us, who turned out to be the owner, and we told him our situation, so he apologized and happily got us another waitress. Â As the original waitress saw that we had a new waitress, she chimed in to take over our orders. Â Midway through our meal, she asked if we wanted a box and we were not even done eating yet, as if she wanted to get rid of us. Â We over heard at another table next to us, a party of 5 that she was genuinely nice to them. Â
My boyfriend has been here twice before I have, and has had the best service, but very disappointed in the service we had on Friday night. Â The waitress did not deserve any tip but got our two cents.
I would come back but hope to not ever see that waitress again, she does not deserve to work at the Flying Pig.
My husband and I went here last night for my birthday! The food was spectacular. We had the clam and mussels as a starter, we each had  one of the daily specials ( husband the steak di jour and I the pasta di jour (which happened to be spatzel)) Both came highly recommended from the waitress.  We also got an order of the bacon mac and cheese... lets just say HEAVENLY! The drinks, food, and dessert were by far the best food I have had since I moved to Cali.
Review Source:Flying Pig Pub and Kitchen
Oceanside, California
Monday 15th July 2013
Four Stars
I don't think I have ever really stopped in Oceanside for food, but I wanted to catchup with my friend Pete so we decided to meet halfway, which happened to be Oceanside. Â The Flying Pig sounded like a fantastic place to try. Â We sat under the giant flying pig sign. Â The water glasses are purposefully mismatched. Â We ordered from their custom made Record Cover Menus. Â We had a nice 2010 Carr Cab Franc from San Ynes Valley ($42). Â The wine was spicy, lightly oaky, and had a terrific price point. Â We started with the Mussels and Clams. Â This was a giant plate of bivalves. We just kept eating and eating. Â The broth was delicious. Â We had the Pork Burger with a perfect SunnySide up Egg and the Beef Short Ribs. Â The Wine complemented both of these dishes. Â The food was outstanding. Â We finished with their Cherry Crisp with Vanilla Ice Cream. Â
Our main server, Jenni was awesome but all the other servers pitched in so that we had a great experience.
Gosh Dang I love this place! Â You could drive by the Flying Pig Pub & Kitchen and never see it, as it's the "hood" off of Tremont and the area is more in line for car repairs than a killer food joint. Â Our friends had us go to check it out and we were told to get there early or be prepared to wait. Â That was several visits ago and I think that it's time to Yelp this great find and give it a great push! Â
First...this joint is cool. Â The vibe lends itself well to everything from casual shorts off the beach or kicking it up a notch. All kinds of people looking for great eats and a cold drink. Â The decor is rustic retro with fun old school menus and a well informed and gracious wait staff that speak clearly to enunciate above the hubbub and really give you a feel for what you should check out and what you do not want to miss. Â The Flying Pig offers up a great collection of craft beers, some excellent wines by the bottle or glass and a Ginger Mojito that hits the mark spot on. Â My second mojito was even better! Â Go figure. ;)
We've sampled a bevy of appetizers and one of the most flavorful is their grilled flatbread  with wild arugula, confit garlic, belmont goat cheese, soppressata,
parma proscuitto & spicy '626' sauce. Â Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Â The menu was created around the farm-to-table approach offering up one of the best tasting grilled pork chops around as my husband will attest and our daughter will vouch for the Chicken & Dumplings that were so flavorful and moist that the fact that this was a great healthy choice was only an after thought. Â During our visits we have tried the Shrimp & Grits, that hits the spot for comfort foods; the braised pork belly that is not to be missed & my all time favorite which was the Charbroiled c.a.b. steak d'jour in a stout medjool date reduction with marscapone horseradish. Â I consider myself somewhat of an expert on all that a steak can be and this one rings my bell every time. Â
Last but not least...the "Sweet Stuff"... fresh daily crisps and pot-de-creme's made daily to top off an fantastic meal on a high note. Â
Flying Pig Pub & Kitchen is a solid 4 stars, edging it's way to 5...OH, the Mac & Cheese the Mac Daddy to boot!
If it has pig in the name I'm going. Â It it flys it will land in my mouth.
I'm not really sure when it started but at some point this became an imperative in my life. Â If I happen to be in an area where there is a restaurant proudly featuring the word "Pig" in the name I will go there. Â Sometimes the words "Pork" or "Hog" may do the trick.
And you know what? Â From New York to California, Oklahoma to Memphis...I have not been disappointed in a single one.
The Flying Pig Pub and Kitchen was no exception to this rule. I went here with my daughter one evening. Â The GPS brought us here and as we drove up we were thinking maybe we were in the wrong place or it had closed. Â It is in a semi-residential neighborhood with a mechanic or something next door. Â We arrived after dark and it is not well lit either so that didn't help.
We cruised past the address and there were a couple people standing out front talking. Â We decided to go in and have a look. Â When we opened the door it was like when everything goes to technicolor in The Wizard of Oz. Â Suddenly there was raucous sound and frenetic activity, brilliant color and wonderful smells.
We shared the polenta fritters and the crab salad. Â (We had actually stopped in Irvine and had a snack on the way down so we weren't that hungry). Â Both were really good and we enjoyed the tag-team service and lively atmosphere.
Dig this place!!! Â Three of us went in at around 5 pm on Wednesday, July 3rd and I was really impressed by the ambiance, beer selection, and the interesting menu. Â I had shrimp and grits...they were buttery and spicy all at the same time. Â We didn't have a wait so that kept me engaged. Â The staff was cool and the prices were good...reasonable for the ingenuity and food quality. Â I highly recommend this (and just did today, to my dentist :)
BTW, the fries were delicious!
I met my family here for drinks and dinner a couple months ago... I wasn't stoked to go in from their outside appearance BUT the inside is really cool and the food/ service was even better. I felt pretty stupid for judging them so fast. I've been back a couple times since and have had good experiences.
Review Source:After my previous review, the owner, Roddy, reached out to me and apologized for my less than stellar experience. I was already planning going going back, but this really set the tone for my next visit. I think it is great that he is so involved in keeping his customers happy.
Well I did go back and had a much better time. The A/C was in full effect, the food was great, and I definitely enjoyed my beer(glad to see a pilsner on there).
We ordered the bacon mac n cheese and the pork burger. Both were excellent, but I really enjoyed the robust flavor of the pork burger, it was truly great. This place is likely 5 stars and I will definitely be back to check, I really want to try the other burger and the pork belly.
Stumbled upon this place late at night on a trip to SD and I can say I was pretty impressed. The wait was a bit long but the smell just kept me and my buddy drawn in.
We met the owner who hooked us up with an extra helping of the mac n cheese because of the wait. Awesome guy.
The porkbelly and porkchop were heavenly. The goatcheese and the porkbelly had interesting synergy and were delicious. I would definitely come back to this place when I'm in the area.
We've heard about this place for a long time and finally got the chance to visit last night.
WONDERFUL!
great quirky deep south ambiance. Â friendly staff. Â fantastic food.
we started with the thin, crispy and delicious truffle fries . . . out of this world! Â I could have had them for my meal.
My son had the chicken and dumplings . . . not the soup from the can . . . but a thick and juicy chicken breast with delicious hand made dumplings. Â Soooo goood.
My wife had the pork chop . . . again, thick and juicy and oh so flavorful.
Me? Â I had the mulfaletta . . . i wasn't really sure what it was other than it was pork . . . Renea asked if i wanted an egg on top and i said "do i?" Â and she nodded yes. Â So, i had the egg on top. Â When it came (with vinegar fries), i was extremely happy . . . and so was my belly. Â So big that even i couldn't finish it.
We didn't have room for desert . . . but next time we will.
Definitely go out of your way to enjoy the Flying Pig.
Great dinner pre father's day!! The beet salad was awesome. Â Trying to figure out the recipe for the allspice citrus dressing. Â I assume the beets were roasted and then tossed. Â
Also got the spaetzle. Â The beer selection was great.
But the service was fantastic. Â I'm not looking for hootie tootie waitstaff, just great service!!
Not too shabby. Service was excellent and everyone was very friendly. Â I love the farm to table idea so they're going in the right direction. Â Nice beer and wine list. Â
We ordered the pasta of the day-speckle pasta in an spicy sauce...makes for awesome leftovers. Â The pork belly plate was good but I could do without the bread pudding. Excellent truffle fries! They used just the right amount of truffle flavoring. The fries didn't come out smacking you in the face with truffle oil scent.
Only downside is the location. Oceanside is so far!
This is as good as it gets folks. The thick huge honking pork chops are a must, best I've had ever...not dry at all super moist and juicy. My mate's steak was also awesome, how can you you complain I have no idea.
What exactly are people expecting here? the prices here are about the same as Out Back, except the food to me is every bit as good as the best I've in SD like Ruth Chris, Pamplemousse, World Famous, etc
Yes the place is quaint and rather confined but you can't your cake and eat it too. But the service is very warm and courteous. If you want an awesome meal that's won't break your wallet and not have to get dressed up for some fancy pants upscale place then you've come to the right place.
What this place is doing in Oceanside, I haven't a clue! Â But it's AWESOME. Â Especially the location! Â I mean man, talk about a hole in the wall! Â I'm from Oceanside (I live in OC now) and it was so nice to see a place like this pop up in such a town. Â
I'm not what you would label as a "foodie" AT ALL (I eat mainly to stay alive...) and I actually think I have no taste buds :( (seriously, I think they're defective sometimes...) but I can tell the difference between good food and not so good food, (aka pure sustenance). Â This place was definitely on the REALLY good side of the good food scale. Â
Shrimp and grits = T.A.S.T.Y., sauteed brussel sprouts of some kind were super delish, and there is apparently a pork burger of some kind that my fiance labeled as "the best burger he has ever had."
I will say though, the salt and vinegar fries kind of left me with something to be desired. Â I think I was expecting to get kicked in the mouth with salt and vinegar flavors, like I do with potato chips, but I didn't get that (could chalk that up to my faulty taste buds though...who knows) They were good though, don't get me wrong.
I give the place and food 4 stars, but i have to tack on an extra star purely because of the locale - it's near and dear to my heart. Â Also, if you live in Oceanside and want to feel like you are in LA for a lil (aka, get all hipstery and trendy for a hot second), come visit this place. Â Totes has an "LA vibe" to it., which is great.
Decent food. Expensive for what you get though. I had the chicken and dumplings. The chicken was delicious (too bad there wasn't more of it), but the dumplings and veggies accompanying it were flavorless. My husband ordered the steak special with date sauce and mushrooms. It was definitely better than my dish, though not the greatest thing ever. We ordered the "fried pickles" which were not actually pickles, but other veggies (such as tomato and onions) that were pickled and fried. They left my stomach turning for hours. Â The atmosphere is hip and fun. One visit to check out the hype was enough for us though.
Review Source:I don't really get what all they hype is about. It's a trendy, hipster type spot with decent-ish food.
PLUS:
- Polenta fritters! Light, not greasy, and delicious. It was the best part of my experience here.
MINUS:
- Grilled flatbread. Boring and contrived. Definitely nothing to write home about.
- Shrimp and grits. Flat, lacked flavor. The dish had potential but tasted like the chef ran out of seasoning and salt.
I'll give it one more shot since everyone seems to love it.
Best food we ever had in north SD county. Â Our waitress Sydney she was very nice and helpful. Â The food was spectacular. Â You would never expect this level of cuisine in this out of the way, rugged location. Â The pork chop and the pork belly were perfectly prepared. Â Service was very good as well. Â I recommend making reservations as you might experience a long wait otherwise.
Review Source:First time we went to this place, I had what I am pretty sure is the best burger I have ever had. The ambiance is very relaxed and I love how none of the chairs, forks, plates, glasses match.
The food is a bit on the pricey side considering the location, but the quality is amazing and the service is good. Chef Marco really puts out the great food and Roddy is a very nice host.
Stopped in for our first visit after a weekday afternoon of relaxing at the beach. It's larger than it appears from the outside. With that said, it is very LOUD when most tables are filled.
The burger was one of the very best I have ever had. FlavorFul, moist, filling.
Also tried the bacon mac 'n cheese made with about 5 different cheeses I believe. GRRR! You're calling yourselves the Flying Pig and describe this dish to be made with bacon so for crying out loud! put in enough bacon so we don't have to go searching for it PLEASE!! Â For just $1 you put more bacon on the burger than the BACON mac. Overall very good flavor.
Wonderful staff that works great as a whole team. Attentive and friendly
WOW - thanks Yelpers! This is a GEM. One of those spots where you just go wow, I cant believe this is here and its so great and so cool.
I was in the mood for a brew pub and (of course) found on yelp.
I cant help but compare it to the "stone bistro" in escondido. This is what Stone restaurant wants to be: Cool, Hip, in a true "north san diego" community ie the beach community that Stone's bottles "infer" with that term (when they are actually in the less hip escondido), Great food and food that actually GOES with the beer they serve. And cool wait and bar staff that is of the "non poser" ilk (compared to the Stone super posers).
The food was so amazing and the beer choices were great.
Our waitress was I believe Michaela (?) who was GREAT! She described the food and really gave us a good "visual" of what to expect.
Map it before you go as its not in a spot you would expect. We arrived and was packed. The tables are really cute and it has a great ambiance. Obviously a VERY popular spot as lot of all ages and families.
I had a burger and the pickles which are an amazing concoction of the chef who pickles a lot of various veggies. Really creative. We also had some type of dessert in a pot with ice cream.
This will be my new favorite spot! My only not good is its not open enough hours. But that just adds to the charm and desire to go!
Super yum, super cool, incredible find!
I am going to have to agree with the other yelpers, Best restaurant in Oceanside. Â Finally made it to the Flying Pig, so glad I did. Â Tried the pork belly which was unbelievable, also was able to sample the flatbread and the chicken and dumplings. Â no complaints. Â Service was great, beer and wine selection very good. Â I can't wait to go back and sample the rest of the menu. Â This place was just what Oceanside needed.
Review Source:Dang, this place gets BUSY! The wait was 45 minutes on Sunday evening, but it's close enough to the beach for a nice stroll to pass the time.
Cool atmosphere and vibe... dedicated gluten-free menu... great selection of beer and wine. Seems to be catered more toward bigger groups though, and it was a little loud inside, hence docking a star. Unique menu for the foodies out there, although I wasn't feeling that adventurous at the time. My shrimp and grits were fine... but not enough to get me racing back to Oceanside again.
The food was F'ing AMAZING! I'm not much of a beer or wine drinker, the bartender offered a ginger lime mojito. Got my drink on! I had the Porkchop with a fried egg..YUM! Honey had the short ribs, made with love! I did order the bacon Mac n cheese from other reviews, wholesome comfort food! We will be back! Service was Great and the owner made sure we had a great experience!
Review Source:By far, the BEST restaurant in Oceanside! Thank you culinary gods. This place has mouth-wateringly GREAT food with out being fussy or over-priced. Â I have been here dozens of times and not once have I had a bad dish. The atmosphere is quirky and fun, love the LP menus. Â I crave the Parmesan salt and vinegar fries and the dessert.
My 2 complaints:
1. WHY did you take the burger with the tempuraed avocado and aioli off the menu?? Just to replace it with a cliche bleu cheese burger?! Â Also, the bananas foster sundae with candied pork belly?! Best thing on the menu! And now its gone. Â So sad.
2. Can't WAIT till this place actually gets a liquor license. Then you guys will be unstoppable, Flying pig!
Yum yum yum! Absolute favorite place to come to now. First time experience was for my boyfriends christmas work dinner, and I've been hooked ever since! I don't think I've ever had anything on their menu that I didn't like.
The atmosphere is really fun. Dimly lit, fun things to look at on the walls, menus hidden into old record albums, and the excitement of people chattering at the bar. It's been busy every time we go, so we always make it in right when they open the kitchen to make sure we have a seat. The servers are always so friendly, they always have the same staff, and they sure do have to memorize a mouthful when telling the special of the day. Every time we've been in the owner will come and chat with us, and since the first time he's remembered us and always thanks us for coming back.
As for appetizers, my favorite is the flatbread, followed by the truffle fries. The fries are so perfect and crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Oh, yum! I also love the cheesy grits with bacon, and I'm not a fan of brussel sprouts, but they make their molasses glazed brussels so divine that I'm warming up to the idea of trying my own at home. Usually I'm a creature of habit and always order the same thing, but here I have no problem trying something new, it's all so great!
The main dishes are always delicious, I think I always try the pasta of the day, each time it's been different, so I don't have a chance to get too attached to what I've eaten the time before. Desserts are fantastic too, nothing too rich in flavor and everything is just right.
This is the best gem to come into South O. Can't wait to go back!
Props for serving fresh local food and beer, for menus made from old record covers, quirky chandeliers, and friendly servers. Â I wanted to love this place more than I did, mostly because the flavors just need a kick or two more to please my palate.
Organic green salad is healthy, and definitely not overdressed. Â In fact, it was so underdressed that I found it pretty dry, and the flavor of the dressing vanished among the leaves. Â One person could split a salad, though we each ordered one and weren't told that they were pretty hefty.
And oh, how I wanted to love that smoked pork muffuletta sandwich. Â I wanted the olives and provolone and smoked pork to take me somewhere special. Â But hey, it's not "The Sun Also Rises" - it's a sandwich. Â Despite top notch ingredients, I thought the sandwich itself was bland. Â The olives didn't have any bite of flavor, and the accompanying fries, while fresh and nicely slivered, didn't do much for me either. Â The other entree at the table - shrimp and grits - got a weak thumbs up. Â
Servers were professional. Â Dinner @ 7:15 on a Friday was supposed to have a 45 minute wait, but we were lucky (I think some people gave up) and we were seated in about 20 minutes. Â Salads and drinks came promptly, followed by a 25 minute lag between salad and dinner. Â The noise level requires you to shout at your dinner companions. Â After years of marriage, I'd rather sit in silence and mull over the surroundings than shout, but if I'd had my food more promptly I might have managed a bit more conversation.
If the chef will work to up the flavor ante, I'd give this another shot. Â For now, the menu descriptions are better than the experience. Â It's a teaser.
Been here twice. Â Great location that gets very very busy around 6:30pm, so come early.
Favorites:  Brussels  Sprouts with bacon and molasses, beet salad, spare ribs, and their "chicken and Dumplings"
Great beer selection and they have Gluten Free options which I love, since I have Celiacs. Â (ASK FOR THEIR GF MENU)
Husband didn't like the ground pork burger.
Went with friends and they had the steak special which he liked and another the mac and cheese. Â
Their desserts are also very good. Â We pretty much tried them all the first time we came and I took a bite from each and they were all amazing.
Service is great, love the menus (records).
I dislike having to go against the grain with the number of five star reviews this spot received, but our recent dinner experience was somewhat disappointing. Â When I read the tips and five star reviews of Flying Pig, I was pretty darn excited to try this pub out as we made our way home from our day trip to Los Angeles.
We arrived early, shortly after their 4:30 bar time opening (which the rest of the restaurant opens at 5:00). Â We were greeted by the bartender gal, but didn't get any type of warm and fuzzy vibe from her. Â Two older gentleman sat adjacent to us shortly after we seated ourselves and you can tell she was annoyed with the number of questions one of them had for her. Â Based on his conversation with his friend, he obviously dined here often since he recommended a number of dishes his friend should try for dinner. Â As soon as their dining area opened up, I told my fiance I'd rather enjoy our dinner at a table instead of the bar.
They do have a great selection of local craft beer on tap, so that was a plus, but I decided on a mule (listed as one of their signature cocktails). Â I've had some really tasty, well made mules at other bars and restaurants lately, but sadly, this one didn't deliver. Â Bitter and bland was not what I had in mind for this drink that's usually so good, so I didn't bother ordering another after forcing this one down.
Their saving grace from our dining experience there was the friendly service we received from our server and the maple glazed Brussel sprouts with small chunks of bacon we ordered as our appetizer. Â I was pretty excited for our entrees to come out considering our appetizer was a nice, flavorful preview, but that was short lived.
When my chicken & dumplings dish came out, I wasn't thrilled by the presentation at all. Â I was more bummed out after the first few bites, it lacked any flavor and the chicken was dry. Â I don't normally salt my dishes, but I had to pick up the salt shaker three times.
My fiance went with the pork belly, highly recommended and the favorite dish of our server that night. Â When his dish came out, I have to admit, it made me glad I didn't order it. Â There was a party on his dish that I didn't care to be invited to.
Overall, the restaurant is cute. Â I like the use of old vinyl record album covers to serve as the booklets for their menu, I like how the chairs, cloth napkins and water glasses are all mismatched to add to the charm of this restaurant, but I didn't like the food, which is the overall deal breaker in deciding on whether to return back or not.
I'm glad to see other Yelpers enjoyed their dining experience with their 4 & 5 star reviews of this place, but the flavorless entrees we had couldn't justify a higher ranking rating.
I'd heard nothing but rave reviews of this place (before even taking a glance at Yelp) so my wife and I decided to give it a try.
Unless you're specifically looking for it, you'd almost never know where it was (which is cool, given it's "hidden gem" kind of idea).
The entire place is tiny, so if you're a group of more than two, I recommend a reservation or be completely cool with waiting a bit. Â It fills up quite fast, reasonably within 20 minutes of the kitchen being open, and the average ticket time is around the 20 minute mark (due to the kitchen size, not the inability of the staff to cook quickly), so plan for a hangout session before you're seated.
Beer selection is great, as is the wine list. Â The food is stellar and reasonably priced for the gourmet level you're receiving. Â I ordered the pork burger and devoured the entire thing. Â Not a negative comment about it.
My wife and I shared the bacon, mac 'n' cheese. Â It would have been better had there been more cheese, but otherwise it was tasty.
Service was fine. Â Nothing super memorable, but nothing disappointing either.
The decor is something you'd expect to find anywhere the hipster population has reached it's over-saturation point.  I didn't  mind it as it was done well (something the folks at 83 degrees should take note of) and was kind of fun.
If you're on the hunt for something new that isn't a chain or inhabited by barflies, give this place a shot. Â The overabundance of children was a downer (not the Pig's fault, just the patrons) so you'd do well to expect that if you're going to give it a shot; otherwise it's a great place. Â I look forward to my next visit.
I heard about this place from my sister, so we decided to try it out last night. It's cute and sort of looks like a house from the outside (well with a big sign that says they are a Pub and Kitchen). We walked in and there was a short wait, which was a lot shorter than expected at 7pm on a Friday. We were greeted by Roddy (one of the owners) and he was very welcoming and friendly. It felt like we were coming over to a friend's house to eat. Anyone that knows me, realizes how far that goes with me.
We were seated right under the logo sign so that was cool. Our waitress was also really cool. She took our beer order and gave us the specials while we decided on what to eat. There is a bar, a good amount of seating and a huge wine fridge system that is quite amazing. Beers are priced for 9 oz or 16 oz, and are quite reasonably priced (around 5 bucks give or take) so it's a great deal. They have a huge wine menu as well, but I was in a beer mood, so I stayed with that.
I decided to go with the Fresh Ground Pork Burger ($12.00) with tempura onion, their special '626' sauce, fried egg, cheddar and vinegar. I also choose fries over the house greens. Â The burger was cooked to order (medium) and it was extremely juicy. The 626 sauce has a great kick and we got a cool back story on the sauce later from the owner. Apparently, I'm an egg snob, and wow they nailed the fried egg spot on. I'm not a huge onion guy, but this burger went really well with them. The fries were more of the shoe string variety, and were crunchy and perfectly seasoned. Yep, I fell in love with this burger.
My sister got the steak special ($20.00). She ordered it medium well and it was perfectly cooked (thank you chef). It was smothered in mushrooms (awesome) and put on a layer of grits. The grits were amazing as they weren't soupy, had great flavor, and the juices from the steak added to the flavor. Those are the best grits I've had west of the Mississippi, and I lived in Louisiana for years (yes I know everyone knows this by now).
There is a bit of noise in the restaurant, but not a crazy level as we could still hear each other. I was really blown away by the customer service of the wait staff and the owner as I was never thirsty and I really felt the concept really worked.
After visiting I figured out that I am a huge fan of the farm to table/slow food movement. If you good beer, and great food this is definitely the place.
On April 1, 2013 Jen and I visiting the Flying Pig with some friends. We arrived at about 5:45 PM.  We were quickly greeted and sat by our hostess.  Because of our large group, a couple of table were re-arranged to our satisfaction.  Menus were waiting on the table for us and our waitress quickly came by and began with the drink order.  Our waitress was very knowledge of the menu as she gave us the rundown on the specials.  I was undecided on what kind of beer I wanted to have with dinner.  Our waitress made a couple recommendations and because I was stubborn and still undecided, she patiently told me she would bring me a couple samples to try out.  I'm definitely gonna be undecided  little more often!!!!! Â
After the drinks came out, the waitress quickly took our dinner order, which came out fast and just the way we expected them. Dinner was delicious. Â Water glasses on the table were never empty and neither were the wine and beer glasses....MY KIND OF PLACE!!!! Â After dinner, our waitress offered to box up our leftovers to take home. Â The first time the to go box was foil shaped to look like a swan!!!!!!!! Â Nice touch!!!!
We noticed on of the chefs at the restaurant, who was there just hanging out on his own time. Â He recognized one of the people in our party and came over to say hi. Â Even he was excited about what was on the menu for the night as he explained how the special of the day was going to be prepared.
This spot is the place to go for great food and GREAT SERVICE despite how busy it was. Â I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anybody.
I GIVE FLYING PIG PUB & KITCHEN 5 STARS!!!!!!!! Â Keep up the good work.
I was told this place was a "must!" I would describe it as trendy. They have great food, but we weren't thrilled with our waitress. I don't expect someone to hold hour long conversations, but she didn't even say a word when she dropped off the check for the night.
Anyways, the food. Very different which is always fun. And they even taste good as leftovers! But, would this be a place I would want to go all the time? Eh, probably not. But it was nice to visit and cross it off my list of places to go.
But it is a cool place to go to.
Oh my goodness. The first time I came here I happened to go to the breakfast spot right behind it and seriously misjudged the outside of the place. I am so glad that I decided to go. My husband was pretty skeptical at first but as soon as we stepped in we were take aback. The atmosphere is amazing. So hip and friendly but still child conscientious. The server was amazing. She was very educated towards the menu and helped us out with getting to know the place.
I ordered the chicken and dumplings. He ordered the burger with provolone cheese. The food was on point and I am a believer in the flying pig. They were definitely getting busy around the time we were leaving which was 8 pm, which shows how great this place is to the locals. I only live 15 minutes away and this will be a staple to both my husband and I for our date nights!
Maybe they had an off night tonight, but two stars is pushing it. It all started good, some drinks and appetizers to start the night. However, it was downhill from there. Three dinners came out. Five minutes later the waiter comes and asks if we are missing anything. You mean the other six dinners? Forty five minutes later as we watched meal after meal leave the kitchen our other dinners came. Half of the steaks were still wagging, so much so that they could not be eaten. Forty five minutes wait for the rest of us, I kid you not.
We got three free desserts for 4.5 couples, that is it. Did the manager come by? No, not once. Things go wrong, no problem, it happens to everyone, but next time comp the meals.
Instead, we will never go back. Waited a long time to eat here after hearing such great things. Instead let this serve as a warning to other restaurants. When you screw up, don't comp a few desserts on a $450.00 tab, do the right thing and people will come back. Instead you pissed off the whole party and not a single one of us will return.
