Wow. Â This was some other place last time I was here and it's awesome now. Â Went at lunch. Â Split the peanut butter burger with a friend. Â It was delicious, with thick bacon and an onion ring on it. Â Fries perfectly cooked. Â Split carrot cake for dessert. Â $15 before tip. Â Service was great. Â Place is full of locals. Â The decore is simple and elegant. Â Definitely will go back for dinner.
Review Source:This place is probably out of the way for most Indy folks. However, if you ever find yourself out on the far east side, The Fort Grille is well worth the trip! Â It's a locally owned eating establishment (Eat local!) that is easy to pass by if you're not looking for it. Non-descript, I wasn't overly encouraged by the lack of character of the building. However, once I had my plate, I forgot all about what was going on outside.
One of the best burgers ever, I got the double burger with tomatoes, onion, lettuce, and pickle; my favorite way to have this all American classic. The patties were 1/3 lb burgers that while well done as I'd asked were not overcooked; still juicy and flavorful throughout.
Here's the real kicker though: my six year old ordered the kids' mac & cheese. I am NOT a fan of restaurant mac & cheese. It tends to be overcooked, mushy, and bland. It's like most restaurants don't even care if kids have tastebuds or not! Not The Fort Grille. Jack's mac & cheese showed up in it's own dish (not plopped on a plate) smothered in cheese and piping hot. After it cooled, I snuck a bite and was pleasantly surprised that the noodles were cooked perfectly. The cheese was flavorful, not processed and greasy.
The service was nice, the place was clean and the prices were in line with industry standards. I had nothing to complain about and thoroughly enjoyed dining here. Definitely looking forward to the next time we visit The Fort Grille!
A very pleasant dining experience. Kind of fools you from the outside when you first drive into the parking lot, looks a lot smaller than it is..Everything is very clean and modern inside, looks to be freshly redone.. Service and food were both excellent, way more than a hamburger and fries type place you might expect.. A limited menu of near gourmet quality food that changes regularly with daily specials offered.
We went with a group of six and every one in our group was very satisfied with the food and the service. All are looking forward to returning again..
Went to The Fort Grille again this past Friday night, just before it got crowded. Our group ordered the Pot Roast (perfect again), Jumbo Shrimp with sweet potato fries - wonderful and Baked Penne Pasta which was very filling but you could not stop eating it.
Tried dessert this time, the Berry Cobbler with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream was a perfect ending.
The Fort Grille is having a soft opening. Â It's great to finally have quality food in Fortville. Â My friends and I ate there for lunch and everyone loved what they had. Â We shared a piece of New York cheese cake that beats Cheese Cake Factory! Â They have shrimp and grits on the menu that are fabulous!!! Â And I hate grits!
