NB: I've only ever eaten the cheeseburgers & fries here. Â The thing is, there's just no good reason to get anything else.
My coworker, occasionally drives here from the West Loop to get some lunch. Â He says the fried chicken is incredible, but I can't make it past the burger and fries.
Most of rest of the Yelp reviews are accurate: the burgers are huge, there's a good ratio of meat-to-bun-to-topping. Â Sometimes the burger feels too heavy, but the meat is delicious. Â It tends to have a bit of char crust on the outside, but the thickness of the patty stops it from drying out. Â So, what you end up with is a great mix of textures.
Oh, I should add: the sauce referred to in the other reviews is what my coworker says is called 'mild sauce,' and it's basically a mix of ketchup and a mild vinegary hot sauce. Â It's great on the fries, though sometimes it can make the whole meal a little salty--but, c'mon, that's practically what Coke was invented for.
First of all, this is not just a hole-in-the-wall. Â It's a hole with bulletproof glass, literally. Â There is the barren waiting area and there is the kitchen. Â The peeling menus are taped to the wall, and it's definitely not the nicest neighborhood. Â Which makes the place that much more awesome.
The cheeseburger I had here is honestly pretty close to a Five Guys burger, better than Boston Blackie's. Â Costs about $5 and comes with fries. Â I've heard the chicken sandwiches and polishes are also solid. Â Calling ahead is the way to go if possible cause all of the food is made to order. Â If you're feeling adventurous, check this place out.
