A Chico Classic. Friendly staff, and reliable good italian food.

We arrived and were seated promptly.  The waitress came promptly.  We had a party of 5 and decided with the family dinner for 4 and added an extra entree.  That is pretty much all that was prompt.  30 minutes later, our salads arrived,  We asked the waitress if the meal came with bread.  She said no, but it could be provided if we asked for it.  So we did.   Another 45 minutes later, the pizza and spaghetti arrived.  with the bread.  plain bread.    We asked for parmesan cheese which arrived 10 minutes later.  According to the waitress, there was a 10 person table who was backing up the kitchens.  How ridiculous that in a half empty restaurant, one table of 10 can delay the rest of the restaurant from getting food  for an extra hour.

So the food itself was decent.  How can one mess up pizza and spaghetti after all.  I would have given more stars in this review but the check was the last straw.  We were overcharged.  They charged us extra for our 5th salad even though our 17 dollar entree supposedly came with it.  So 1.50 is nothing, but when i brought this to the attention of the waitress, she said she would "try" to see what she could do.  Then when she brought us the corrected check, she made it seem like she was doing us a favor.  Awful service.  (there was one exception- the guy who kept refilling our water... he seemed like the only person in the place who did anything)

If you're in no hurry and dont mind spending 3 hrs at dinner this place is fine.  I'm assuming other waitresses are more friendly and less with their heads in the clouds because there are so many good reviews about this place.  For me, once was enough.

Stopped in last night after driving our son back to Chico after a weekend home. The staff was friendly and welcoming. we decided on the family dinner, WOW what a lot of food. They start you off with warm toasty bread with dipping oils, salad or soup for 4, Spaghetti & a Large Pizza! Every item was more delicious than the last. Our waitress was so sweet and made us feel as if we were her only customer. As the dinner was coming to an end my husband looked at the bill, to our astonishment our whole meal drinks and all was only $40.00. We will defintely be returning,,, yummy

Visiting Chico with family that wanted some Italian. We decided to check this place, since it has an average 4-star review. As soon as we walked in I was confused how it had rated so high. Maybe it scores well with the college crowd?

Franky's is basically a sport's bar with a mini restaurant attached. Beer selection is OK (3 Sierra Nevadas on tap and the rest unimpressive). The salad I ordered (can't remember which) was MEH. Pizza was pretty good; neither the best nor the worst.

All in all, this place is pretty middle of the road. Standard, generic, decent (but not high) quality Italian food. Ok for pizza and a beer if you want to watch some sports.

Pizza here is amazing. You can get it inside the restaurant or outside late night at the window if you need a snack around 2pm. The service here is great. Everyone is always friendly and in a good mood.
My favorite appetizers are the calamari and the prawn cocktail. Both are great choices. They also have some great lasagna, spaghetti, linguini with clams, mannicoti, and ravioli dishes for main courses. The salads are bomb. Some of the best caesar dressing in town!!! Sometimes I even just come here to pick up a large tub of salad dressing for home.  wine list is good and the drinks are poured nice and strong. This is a great place to have a birthday party or a large group of friends. They can accommodate for large crowds.

    Good ol Frankys.

I have been going to this place since I was a tot. I used to watch the train that goes around the top rim of the restaurant for a long time. It has a lot of nice memories from my child hood.

To make it even better... they have awesome food. i love their pizzas, their pastas, their bread, their salads. i have yet to have a bad experience there with food.

I'm not sure if they still do this, but I know that the drunken kids really enjoy frankys because they have a window that stays open till 2am so you can grab a slice... or five.

in terms of their bar, i have yet to try their drinks, but I predict that will be in my near future.

Till then, enjoy the grub, you will not be disappointed.

Two co-eds having a 'Springer moment' and chewing out some guy by the front door was the first warning sign I (unfortunately) blew by...

Nothing says 'Fine Italian Dining' like David Bowie cranked up and singing 'Golden Years' on the PA... am I right?!

Lower your expectations, or go elsewhere. Sadly, this was just not good...

I've eaten at Franky's twice in the last month with my husband and 3 kids (10-6 yrs old).  The food is great, the service is awesome and the drinks are cold.  Upon leaving the first time my son (who is the pickiest eater of all our friends kids) said "Mom, can we eat here every day?" I wish we could...

I have only been twice, but I'm a fan. The first time I went I ordered baked ziti with a salad, and I was really impressed. I was so happy to find Italian food in Chico that tasted like home-cooked. The second time I went I ordered Fettuccine Alfredo. I will be honest--I was not a fan of the alfredo sauce at all, but I won't hold that against them, because everyone has a different idea of what sauces should taste like.

The reason I am dying to go back is because the table next to me ordered salads, and OMG they looked amazing. I can't wait to go back and try the salads and pizzas.

Service was good, decor is nice. Location is a little on the sketchy side of town, so I only go during the day because, you know, people get jumped over there at night.

If I could say two words about this place, it'd have to be...STRONG ISLAND. There is nothing better than late night at Franky's. The bar tenders are super fast and the drinks are well worth what you pay for them. Also, I see the staff around Chico daily and they always have time to say hi to me and my friends. The food is likewise as amazing. If you want some authentic italian, or maybe just a slice of pizza that you probably won't remember eating at 2AM from the front window...this place has you covered. This is definitely a community based bar. They support the local university and Chico economy and we, as students, give them our support back. I mean, realistically about 75% of us spent our 21st birthdays at this bar so it's the least we can do for putting them though all of our shenanigans!

Delicious  manicotti and tortellini with spicy   Red pepper sauce. Started out with a tasty salad and bread with oil and vinegar. All around good dinner.

The best authentic Italian food in Chico. Try their fettuccini Alfredo, or spaghetti and meatballs!

Pizza and it comes from a window by the slice. This is always a good thing. We joined friends and the choice late dinner we had between IHOP and Frankys, pizza wins hands-down. Dont burn your mouth on the hot gooey cheese.

Went here for dinner with the wife. Sober I should add. Inside is nice and inviting. Have to say the waitress was the bomb! Always keeping my glass full and was attentive. Food was good. Wife had a pizza I had smoked chicken fettuccine. Will come back. Recommend trying it out for sure!

I love this place, I get the same thing every-time which is sausage and peppers and I absolutely love it. It's a nice restaurant but not a fan of the fish tank tv. For Italian food in Chico it's the best in my book.

Franky's has some awesome pizza.  If you are looking for a thicker crust than Celestinos, than this is the place to go!  They have a walk up window open at night for all those drunk folks.  Good location right next to rileys and walking distance from most places downtown.

Frankys... a drunk pizza window or a delicious meal... why not both!!!?

I found Franky's after a binge drinking bar crawl.... They have a window walk up where you can wait in line for a huge slice of heaven! People are staggering around, laughing, and enjoying pizza!

At a later date,  I found out the interior bar and eattery was cozy and welcoming. The staff is super friendly, and the food is great!! Excellent Chicken bake and great pizza!!!

Win Win! For all kinds!! Sober or drunk!

    Franky's = drunk pizza! yumm.

best idea ever serve drunk college kids through a window.

They also have a fancy bar inside and dining. I've had a shot or two here prices are moderate, food i'm not sure how much it is since i've never eaten inside.

I give this place 5 stars for the best drunk late night pizza in the world.
My happiest moment after a long night of binge drinking, peeing in the streets, and stumbling around in heels is getting my mouth around a huge slice of Franky's pizza. It is the best. It doesn't matter that I'll probably throw it up. It doesn't matter that I may have no real recollection of eating it. All that matters is that it is delicious cheesy cheesy pizza and I'm drunk.

So, I really wanted to give Franky's a better review, but couldn't.  We went on a Wednesday evening for dinner and I should have guessed something was wrong when I walked in and the only person who noticed me was the bartender.  After about 10 minutes I finally got water and asked if I was waiting for someone else.  My party arrived right after the water and the place was still empty.  We ordered and the food came, the cheese wasn't even melted!  If this was my first time here I would not go back, but I grew up in Chico and going to Franky's so I know it can be so much better.  Will be a while before I return the service was not on par with any other place in Chico, and the food was "OK" but not great.

One slice of pizza is about a quarter of an entire one for about 3 dollars. You walk up to a window and ask for it, pay nothing, walk away with an awesome tasting slice which probably tastes amazing when you're drunk.

Franky's is as good as Italian gets! The food is so fresh. With hand made fresh pasta, from scratch soups and salad dressings made daily, you can't go wrong here.
I frequently go with my family and have even gone for a girls night out to dinner. Their fan favorite, maybe you could call it their specialty, is the smoked chicken fettuccine... to die for. If you want something classic, I love their spaghetti with meat sauce, and if you want to drink, their Franky's punch does the job quickly... don't drink it if you will be the one driving when dinner is over :)

This is the only place I'd go for Italian food in Chico.
I went with a friend on a Thursday night, and we ordered the special for the night, which was lobster ravioli, and we also ordered a vegetarian pizza. Before they brought out entrees, we split a side salad, and they brought out bread with olive oil/balsamic vinegar (which I probably would've kept eating if we didn't run out of bread right before our meal came).
This is a heavy statement, but the lobster ravioli was the best I've ever had. The lobster wasn't overpowering or too subtle, and the cream sauce complemented the raviolis without being too thick or heavy.
The pizza was also delicious - I would've eaten another slice or two or five if I could have. They have plenty of options for topping, and were extremely accommodating to me wanting to remove some items on half (most places mess that up completely).
The service was outstanding here - our waitress was extremely attentive and helpful when we were overwhelmed with what to order. She was professional but still very personable, which I always like in waitresses. The atmosphere was relaxed but fun, they have a bunch of flat screens on the walls, and a train going around the top of the wall. They also have a full bar, in case you're into that kind of thing; being in Chico, and all.
Overall, this was an outstanding dining experience and I can't wait to go back to try more of their authentic Italian menu.

Very good italian food inside and amazing pizza by the slice window outside! Has a great bar with a fun atmosphere. I love their bread served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The staff is always very friendly and prompt. Get a calzone if you hungry, they are huge!

Honestly, I would really give this pizza a one star. I am giving them one pity star because I really think we must have had a bad batch. We walked up to the window and were asked to wait 5 minutes for the pizza to come out the oven. We patiently waited and finally they said a cheese was ready. We were fine with cheese and bought three slices. Now, you would think after waiting 5 minutes that the pizza would be fresh right? WRONG. This was arguably the worst pizza I have ever had. To top it off my husband brought me here to experience the pizza he loved in glorious drunken college days, and even he agreed that it was nasty. What a disappointment for the both of us. It reminded me of school cafeteria pizza in elementary school, maybe even worse.

On a side note, my sister in law went there later that night and she said it was really good. So, again I really think we got a bad batch. I can't believe that they would stay in business that long serving pizza that horrible. Even if our crappy pizza was a fluke, what can I say?  That was my first and only time there so consistency is very important.

I'm in Chico for a day on business. I didn't have many expectations for food in this small city of Chico, but I was very pleasantly surprised by Franky's. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan (which comes with the side of spaghetti). The amount of food they give you is impressive; the chicken itself was a nice size, and it was very moist inside. It came with a side salad and bread. Everything was very tasty. If I'm ever back in Chico, I'm coming back to Franky's.

I have been going to this place for years just for the bar and pizza.  We tried it today for lunch, and it was really good.  Had the Basilico and caesar salad.  The salad was good, crip and nice.  Needed more garlic however.  The Basilico had really good flavor, and was very light.  It made a very nice lunch.  The wait staff was very friendly.  I am looking forward to going back.

I would wait a hour in line for a slice of Cheese or Pepperoni. Some best drunken nights at chico always had to end a Franky's pizza window. Always had to get two slices. The line sucks when million drunk people all want a slice. But hopefully a fight breaks out or a stupid drunk person can keep u entertained. Something about there soft crust and that cheese with some crushed red peppers on man just the best.

Honestly, I love the pizza at the walk-up window here after a long night on the town. It is on the way home and one of the only things open. The only bummer is that on late Fri/early Sat. nights, the line gets so long that unless you get there early enough, you won't get a slice. A classic Chico late-night stop.

Went here last Wednesday night with my wife and daughter (who was moving into the dorms the next day). We ordered Caesar side salads and a large pizza with tomatoes, pepperoni, and black olives. The crust was very good and the sauce not overpowering. The tomatoes were nice big chunks. Overall a very good pizza. We got the leftover pizza packed to go so our daughter could take to the dorm the next day. Also very friendly and attentive service.

I have never been inside for dinner but I have enjoyed drinks at the bar and many a late night slice from the take out window.

The slices of pizza are very generous and at times like between 1 and when they run out pizza the line can get pretty long but it is well worth the wait.

I try to make an effort whenever I am in town visiting my friends to make a trip here for some good pizza and if bring a girl who flashes the pizza is on the house.

words can't even begin to explain the taste of franky's...

walking down the street, slightly inebriated, you stumble upon franky's. so, you wait in line for a $2 slice of what you can only imagine is ny style pizza. but what you don't know is that you are about to open doors into a whole new realm of taste, and will probably never go back.

i dream franky's. the pizza is inexplicable. hot, fresh, ny pizza in minutes. it's like no other pizza i've ever had. and late night, what more could you want? check it out for lunch, first. then hit it up dt around 130. you may even see me lurking around the corner.

Who went to Chico State and hasn't had a slice of late night pizza from Franky's? The pizza is delicious when drunk otherwise not so much. However, the Italian food inside the restaurant is always tasty when sober. This place doubles as a bar at night although I prefer it as a restaurant.
