How did I grow up in Snohomish and yet never eat at Fred's until last week? I remember stopping by a few years back for drinks but didn't realize that they had great food too.

While visiting my hometown last week, I randomly stopped by Fred's for dinner with a friend. She was craving a burger and it was the first place that we came to with a burger on the menu. I decided to try the chicken breast sandwich but swapped the cheddar jack cheese for swiss. It was delicious! After adding some ranch to it, it was also quite messy but well worth it! We both opted for the seasoned waffle fries on the recommendation of the waitress and she did not steer us wrong. Perfect side for the burgers!

At $11 for the chicken burger, it seemed a little pricey for Snohomish (I used to pay only $9 for a similar meal in Seattle). I thought the mac and cheese sounded good but I couldn't bring myself to spend $13 on pasta. This is my only tiny issue.

On a Friday night, it was packed for dinner so obviously Fred's is doing a lot of things right!

Had dinner early on a Friday evening - place was nearly full but despite reading comments about lousy service it was great.  Our order was taken quickly for drinks and our food arrived so fast I was shocked.  Plus we were asked no less than 4 times by different servers during our meal if we needed another beer or anything else.  I had the Reuben with waffle fries and my wife had Philly cheese steak with waffle fries.  We both agreed the fries were a solid 5 out of 5.  My Reuben was piled high with very tender corned beef but could have used a touch more sauerkraut and dressing - still all-in-all a very tasty sandwich.  My wife thought the Philly was a bit dry - I agreed as I finished it for her but it still tasted pretty good.  The noise level in the place was quite high - probably not the best location for a quiet, romantic lunch or dinner.  The beer selection was very good too.  There are cheaper places to get sandwiches and beer but overall a thumbs up.  I will definitely be back.
