How did I grow up in Snohomish and yet never eat at Fred's until last week? I remember stopping by a few years back for drinks but didn't realize that they had great food too.
While visiting my hometown last week, I randomly stopped by Fred's for dinner with a friend. She was craving a burger and it was the first place that we came to with a burger on the menu. I decided to try the chicken breast sandwich but swapped the cheddar jack cheese for swiss. It was delicious! After adding some ranch to it, it was also quite messy but well worth it! We both opted for the seasoned waffle fries on the recommendation of the waitress and she did not steer us wrong. Perfect side for the burgers!
At $11 for the chicken burger, it seemed a little pricey for Snohomish (I used to pay only $9 for a similar meal in Seattle). I thought the mac and cheese sounded good but I couldn't bring myself to spend $13 on pasta. This is my only tiny issue.
On a Friday night, it was packed for dinner so obviously Fred's is doing a lot of things right!
Had dinner early on a Friday evening - place was nearly full but despite reading comments about lousy service it was great. Â Our order was taken quickly for drinks and our food arrived so fast I was shocked. Â Plus we were asked no less than 4 times by different servers during our meal if we needed another beer or anything else. Â I had the Reuben with waffle fries and my wife had Philly cheese steak with waffle fries. Â We both agreed the fries were a solid 5 out of 5. Â My Reuben was piled high with very tender corned beef but could have used a touch more sauerkraut and dressing - still all-in-all a very tasty sandwich. Â My wife thought the Philly was a bit dry - I agreed as I finished it for her but it still tasted pretty good. Â The noise level in the place was quite high - probably not the best location for a quiet, romantic lunch or dinner. Â The beer selection was very good too. Â There are cheaper places to get sandwiches and beer but overall a thumbs up. Â I will definitely be back.
Review Source:THE GREAT WALL OF SCOTCH!
last i heard there is around 500 diferent kinds
voted top 10 pubs in washington
the menu can be a bit strange at times, an eclectic mix, but ive never had a bad meal there.
service can be a little slow at times and the place is allways packed. good luck getting a set on a brewers night...
I've been here many times over the years. I used to be able to rely on the food to be delicious, but in recent months the food seems to have really gone downhill. The service is always clumsy (poorly trained) and slow, which I have become used to over the years, but the food used to make up for it. Not anymore. I guess since they don't have any real competition, they don't feel they need to keep their game up, but I wish they would. There's always McMinimans.
Review Source:This weekend was my third and final visit to Fred's, and as my experiences have been consistent across all three visits, I'm lowering my rating.
Fred's is all setup to be an ale house, yet getting timely service either at the bar or at the table seems to be an impossibility. Â I mean come on - if we're sitting at the bar, and there are three of you behind the bar, why is it over 5 minutes before anyone comes over to take an initial drink order? Â Why, when it isn't that busy, do I need to flag you down to get a second drink?
The food isn't great. Â Halibut tacos with the smallest pieces of halibut I've seen for $19, overcooked and sitting with scant amounts of cabbage and cilantro. Â Came with very bland beans and rice. Â The French Dip au Jus wasn't much better, overcooked, Â tough and dry roast beef served with an au jus that was seasoned only with salt. Â Lots and lots of salt.
This place is right down the street from our house, and is a common haunt of our group of friends. my favorites would be the ale house burger (big enough to split), mick jagger and regular waffle fries (so tasty!), and asian nachos (unique and yum!). I'm not much of a drinker, but the husbands in our group are scotch fans and they enjoy the variety and trying new ones.
I am only deducting one star for bad service... maybe I should take another because it is so irritating but I like the place too much otherwise. Service is just plain slooow. They always get my order wrong when I order pizza, are verrrry slow about getting our orders in, getting us our beverages, refilling waters (we constantly have to ask for refills.) and answering questions about the menu. They are all very nice, but come on, this is Waitress 101...
I'd heard of Fred's for quite some time and had planed to stop in when up north, but it just never happened, not until recently at least.....and I am so glad I finally got to go!
A truely great place in my book is one that you can't stop thinking about because they offer something you can't get everywhere. Fred's does that with great service, a varied menu, and an excellent tap list. One item in particular on the menu has stuck in my mind... the thai nachos! Goodness me! Peanut sauce, crisy wontons, chicken! Also those who like fries, I think it's important to note they have waffle fries here, which are so way better then regular fries, right?! The tap list I mentioned isn't huge but it has an interesting array of craft brews which makes me happy. They looked to have an amazing whiskey selection as well! And yes the service, I don't lie, it was great. They let us know a few times while we were waiting that our wait wouldn't be long, and they served us drinks too!
I guess bottom line, Freds is my go to happy place, a true reason to head north again, and again, and again!!
Had a nice lunch at the ale house. Fred's is located in an old-timey building, among several antique shops on 1st street and has a nice relaxed atmosphere.
I had the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich which was pretty authentic...could have used a little more onion and green pepper, tho. I paired my sandwich with one of their local beers on tap and it was perfectly refreshing. The hub had the Southwestern Salad which had fresh ingredients but he found the dressing lacking.
This is my first trip to Snohomish, the antique shops, and the restaurant. Such a charming downtown area...I will be back.
WARNING: On your way home watch out for the speed trap on Marsh Road...Barney Fife is waiting for you.
I've been to this place four times in a few months. The food is amazing... my favorites would definitely include the Mick Jagger Fries and the Asian Nachos. I've tried other dishes here to and those were all good. I've only had 1 bad experience which was at lunch time, the only time I have been to this location before 6pm. I can't say if their lunch is just bad or it was just a bad day but this is why they'll only get 4 stars from me. It is though one of the better places in Snohomish.
The service here is also great, in the evening you do not get a dedicated server the whole staff takes care of you. You'll be surprised how quickly your taken care of and they seem to have a good idea of what you need and where you are in your service.
My girlfriends and I met our men-folk here after hitting up the Chippendale's performance at the Tulalip casino.
For having a rather large beer menu the guys were disappointed to find that they were out of many of the beers they tried to order. Us girls had Electric Ice Teas which were tasty without being ridiculously strong.
We also ordered beef nachos which were really good, better than most bar nachos, but they were smaller than those served by most places and the beef was almost non-existent.
The waitress was less attentive than desired causing us to sit with empty glasses for a noticeably long time, but it was a busy night so perhaps that's not usually the case.
For a little restaurant in a little town, this place was a little bit on the pricy side for an Ale House. The service was ok, this place was packed. Took about 45 mins to get our food but we did have a group of 8. When we got our food we didn't have any silverware or napkins so as hungry as we were we couldn't even dig in.
A couple of the bf's in the group got the Ockoberfest specials, brats. They said that they were quite disappointed with the dish they got. One was just some sausage sitting on top of some sauerkraut. Me and a girlfriend just shared a burger. I think the highlight of this place was their WAFFLE FRIES! Those were BOMB.
Lastly my boyfreind ordered wings which they apparently forgot to bring out so as the group was chowing down he was just sitting there picking off my plate of delicious waffle fries. But they made it up to him with a free markers mark drink.
Overall I thought this place was ok. The town itself is really quaint and charming.
We're now locals and this is our 'other' place, home away from home, where they say, 'Norm!', as we walk in the door and have our beer pouring before we sit down. Awesome staff, great food and a cozy environment. There's 'bar' and 'family' seating so all ages welcome. There's also fun events from 'Brewery Nights', with visiting local breweries showcasing beer and giving away prizes, to 'Scotch Tasting', with several flights available and experts on hand to educate. Fred's is what a small town pub should be. Safe bet. Give them a try.
Review Source:I saw this place before and actually passed it up because it looked pretty mediocre. Â However, I decided to stick my head in and was in for a treat.
The beer selection is expansive, and it's way more than the usual varieties. I think you can get bud light if you want, but they specialize in rare but delicious beers. Not only did they have a great selection of beers, but they also had descriptions of each of them so that I didn't have to pick based strictly on name alone.
But enough about the beer. Perhaps the most memorable thing about this place was the Asian nachos. Won tons covered with beef, chicken, cheese, green onions, and a few other sauces that I can't remember anymore. It certainly sounds intriguing and will likely deter those who are not feeling adventurous with their food, but I cannot recommend these enough. They are quite possibly the best thing I've eaten in months. If you try them and don't like them, let me know and I'll drive down and buys them from you. They're amazing.
Finally, the service was amazing. I couldn't get to the bottom third of a beer without being offered another. The food was fast. And the whole production was top notch.
The only knock on the place is that it looks a little beat up, but not enough to drop it down to 4 stars. Go enjoy this place... If you can get a seat.
Went here last night with the family and a group of friends. Â I liked it for the most part. Â They have an extensive selection of beers for the beer drinking folk. Â They had 2 different hard ciders, including a dark and dry that was delicious! Â The food was good to excellent - my family had fish and chips, the thai chicken wrap, lobster fettuccini, mac and cheese, and the kids mini corn dogs. Â The mac and cheese and the corn dogs were ok, the rest were great with the lobster fettuccini being the best. Â Oh, we had the garlic fries, too - they were fine but there was a puddle of grease in the bottom of the dish they were served in. Â Gross!
So why only 3 stars? Â The service. Â Ugh. Â The servers were all very friendly. They kept the glasses of beer and cider full. Â Beyond that though it was like a 3 ring circus. Â It was really slow. Â One of my friends ordered an appetizer but was never asked about his dinner order, not until I asked for a glass of water and told the waitress he still needed to order. Â It seemed like they actually had too many servers/bussers for the size of the place and no one knew what anyone else was doing. Â
The other downside? Â The bill!!! Now, we go out to eat a fair amount. Â And I rarely balk at the bill. Â But $115 for 5 people in a pub were only 2 people had 2 beer like drinks seems a little excessive to me. Â Definitely not a good place to take the whole family if you're being budget conscious!
Fred's has it going on! Â What a great casual place to just hang out w/ friends and relax and catch up over a few beers/drinks. Â We popped into Fred's as we were passing through Snohomish while we were running errands. Â Service was great - very attentive and the food fantastic! Â
We started with an amazing bowl of lobster bisque and a salad. Â My husband enjoyed one of their Burgers while I chowed down on their Brewubin Sandwich made with yummy sausages, sauerkraut and 1,000 Island Dressing served with waffle fries ... A M A Z I N G! Â
This place has a great vibe/energy to it.  Love the rustic décor and pub feel and laid-back atmosphere.  Great casual date / day out venue.  Getting in/out maybe a bit challenging for folks w/ strollers/wheelchairs due to the old turn-of-the-century building entry design - but manageable.
Looks like this place would be a lot of fun on a big sports game night as well.
I have NEVER, not once, in the years I have eaten here, gotten my food exactly as I have ordered it. Â Is it a pride thing that a waiter/waitress will not write the order down? Â I am assuming that it's part of the whole attitude that the staff has here. Â Since I am not one of the locals, they really don't care if they get my order right anyway.
Review Source:Pros
Ambience is great, alehouse feel with lots of wood and brass.
Service is good.
Great selection on beer on tap.
Cons
Food is not well executed and really, really expensive.
Last night I had the halibut tacos. Â You get 3 tacos, black beans, and rice. Â It cost $16. I would probably pay $10, $12 at the most and feel comfortable about it. Â The beans were undercooked and the rice overcooked. Â The sides were so poor that I did not eat them. The tacos were just ok. Â One was smothered in sauce, so much the taste was overpowering. Â The other two had no sauce and were really dry.
I watched other plates come out, the burger $10 or $12 is really lack-luster. The table next to ours got the ahi tuna. Â Once it came you could tell by the look on thier faces and how they got all quiet they were displeased because the portion of tuna was so small.
Won't eat here again, might stop in for a beer though.
This was my first visit to the city of Snohomish and because of this place it won't be the last... well Snohomish is a pretty cool town and I would be back anyway, but Fred's helps.
I will first say, the only reason it's not 5 stars is because the service was a little off. Â They servers were a little cold and I really did not feel very welcome.
We just stopped in for a late afternoon snack. Â My wife had heard about their waffle fries and I wanted a beer. Â It is a small place. Â It is a classic small town pub. Â They have two small TVs with different games on. Â They have one of the best, if not the best, scotch lists in the NW. Â I would say 150+. Â They also have a nice selection of micro brews on tap. Â The menu was surprisingly large with more that burgers and fries. Â
The waffle fries are ridiculously good. Â They are huge. Â They take a nice thick segment of the potato. Â They have a great crispy outside and they stay nice and fluffy inside. Â It is a good balance of potato flavor and crispy deep fired goodness on the outside. Â
People, if you have a significant other that is into Antiquing... join her in Snohomish and tell her you will be at Fred's.
Great place in Snohomish for pub grub. Â If you're a fan of sweet taters, don't miss the Mick Jagger Fries. Â Hello damaged (yet happy) arteries!
Cheese steak is groovy, bonus points for offering Cheese Whiz and for not using cheap processed beef. Â Reuben is awesome, as are pretty much any dishes we've ever ordered. Â They do have some terrific waffles fries, so don't miss out on those. Â And if you get a salad, which I often have instead of fries (no extra charge!), try the homemade Honey Mustard dressing. Â
My only 'complaint' is the speed of service sometimes. Â Servers don't have a specific area so one person might take your drink order, someone else your food order (unless they think someone else has), food is delivered by someone new.. etc. Â Everyone is always super nice but it's just confusing and disorganized. Â So I never ever ever go here when I'm in a hurry. Â :)
We have had dinner here twice and lunch once. Each time the service & food have been terrific. My husband LOVES the meatloaf sandwich but it is only served for lunch and they flat out refuse to make it any other time. Doesn't matter how much you request it. Their salads are very large and tasty and they have killer waffle fries. All of their meals are hearty and the portion sizes are typical of a pub.
The restaurant is a nice size and very open. They have a full bar and the bathrooms and dining area are kept very clean. Â This joint is located in the heart of downtown Snohomish with the river right across the street.
Good food, good service, great ambiance and close to home. It's a must go!
Snohomish isn't really a top destination for most, but this place is worth seeking out.
To be fair, our original destination for the day wasn't Fred's. We actually had intentions of eating at Grilla Bites, but unfortunately they were closed on an early Saturday afternoon. Starving, we decided to stop in at Fred's Rivertown Ale House since it seemed like a pretty happening spot!
Their menu is quite extensive, both for food and beverages. I think we received a total of three food menus; one with lunch specials, one with pizza and appetizers, and one with normal entrees. For such a tiny kitchen, they do have a MASSIVE list of ingredients! I scoped around and looked at what others were eating like I normally do and opted for the fish and chips.
Fish and chips are one of those dishes where they sound great to me, but I typically end up getting halfway through my dish and regretting my initial decision to get them. This, however, was not the case. The moist, delicious fish was lightly breaded with a crispy panko/brown ale batter that doesn't make your heart completely stop at first sight. What does make your heart stop is the massive pile of delicious waffle cut fries! I seriously ate every piece of fish and every single fry, and I don't regret this decision one bit.
Now, Fred's really shines with their insane booze selection. I think I counted about 20 something rotating beer taps and a metric buttload of Scotch (I'm guessing 60+). I went with two beers local brews, one of which was named after the restaurant (Fred's Rivertown Brown from Diamond Knot) and both were the perfect compliment to a delicious meal.
Honestly, this place has the potential for 5 stars but the service is a bit inconsistent. We seemed to have about 6 servers during the course of our stay and some were incredibly helpful and apologetic for the slowness, but others were cold, forgetful and unresponsive. If we lucked out with just the good servers, it would easily be 5 stars.
By far the best place for a pint in Snohomish.
Pros:
Totally tasty pub food. Mostly of the fried and grilled variety. But delicious. (The reuben is especially awesome.)
A collection of NW micro beers you can't find anywhere outside of seattle. And a staff that is happy to give samples.
Cons:
The place is echos and the noise level is high.
They do not serve strong (read, delicious) beers in full pint sizes.
It can get crazy crowded.
Friday night dinner, and the place was crowded and loud. Really loud.
Fun atmosphere, beer posters and such around. Wood tables and chairs or benches. Good for kids. Still has an old town feel to it, but updated.
The food is just ok. The chicken salad was soggy, fish & chips were a bit dry and the tartar sauce was just sour cream with some paprika sprinkled on top. But the nachos were good, and the sausage plate was delicious. The smoked salmon chowder was wonderful.
Staff was friendly and efficient, though it was so loud he had trouble hearing our orders.
But you don't really go to Fred's for the food. You go for the beer. Â The beer selection is phenomenal. Or if you like Scotch, they have a 8 1/2 x 11 page full of choices.
I like this place. It maintains the old town Snohomish feel. You'll find locals here. Seems like the crew from Skydive Snohomish frequent this place as we often see them taking up a large table; laughing and telling stories.
It's loud when it's busy. Real loud. In fact, it's often so loud that my voice is hoarse the next day from trying to talk the night before. But that's a good sign. It's a sign of a place being busy and good times being had.
The staff is friendly enough; some more than others. The food is alright. Nothing special, but decent. The beer selection is awesome. You could wear a flannel shirt in Fred's and no one would look at you funny. A tie might be a little much, but they'd still serve you a specialty beer and treat you right.
Old town Snoho wouldn't be the same without Fred's. I think I'll go there tonight.
And you get 3 stars. Â I really wanted to love this place but the food I've eaten here has always been a bit flawed. Â The fish and chips have potential to be 5 stars with their panko batter and seasonings but every time I've ordered them, they've been overcooked and dry. Â I've also ordered the seared tuna that was full-on cooked tuna and rather fishy in flavor like mackerel...not good. Â The lobster bisque was too buttery and rich that our table of four couldn't manage to finish the single bowl between us. Â Maybe next time I won't order any seafood dishes and stick to a burger or something simple (but if I wanted a simple burger, I'll head to Dick's.) Â
Their beer selection is fairly extensive but wouldn't you know it, they don't have my go-to beer, Stella Artois...ugh! Â I can appreciate the fact that they stock a lot of local brews but I really wish Stella was available too.
I don't understand why they are always packed for dinner? Â I'm guessing all these people have tried Picadilly Circus down the street. Â :) Â They must be doing something right, just not on my orders. Â The staff is very friendly and attentive with quick service. Â I will go back and give them another shot (or two.) Â I hope I can up my rating on this place in the near future. Â Please don't let me down again Freddy!
Wow, I am actually rather shocked I never got around to reviewing this place before. Fred's has been pretty legendary among beer nerds for years, maybe a decade or more. In beer nerd years, that's starting to get kind of grandfatherly, or at least fatherly.
Before that, this place was evidently a dive of epic proportions for generations in Snoho. Peanuts on the floor, drunks on the floor. Well, maybe not literally, but, the point is, it's fun watching places evolve, and this place has certainly done just that.
They have a couple dozen taps. Usually most of them are well-chosen but reasonably widely-available craft selections. Probably more than half would be from WA or at least the PNW, which a definite emphasis on things from west of the rockies overall. They also tend to throw in a few overseas delights, especially belgians. They also usually have a couple special releases pouring, and a cider. They definitely move with the seasons (crisper and lighter in the heat, heavier and more complex in the cold).
They're one of those institutions on the beer scene that can not only get hard-to-find kegs, but they can get special events with brewers and other industry happenings, and, most tellingly, Diamond Knot brews a special beer just for them. They don't just slap a new name on an existing popular beer and say it's "Fred's," they actually brew a beer that you can only get at DK and Fred's (and the Barking Dog, Fred's sister pub in Ballard). It's a yummy brown ale. There's also a full bar, with a special emphasis on single malt scotch whisky.
The dining room is classic PNW pub--blond wood, stickmade furniture, lots of tables and inviting-looking wooden chairs. Plenty of beer signs, plenty of friendly, hard-working kids on the floor and behind the bar.
The kitchen is tiny, but they crank out some reasonably ambitious pub grub. Burgers, thai-style nachos (wtf? yeah!), good soups, sandwiches. A few interesting salads, and seared ahi shows up in quite a few dishes. You can come here for comfort food with your beer, or bring someone who wants to eat lighter, or more adventurously, and everyone will be happy.
The prices are fair, and, while the place gets busy, you can usually find a perch. I am remiss for not having said nice things about them sooner. I'll certainly keep coming back.
So this is downtown Snohomish...
Fred's is somehow smaller than I had imagined since seeing their name as sponsors of a bunch of beer events. Â They had a nice tap list and tons of Single Malt which I didn't try as even a wee Dram before driving home isn't a great idea. Â Some nice local-ish beers (Flyers, Diamond Knott) and some great stuff from further out (LaChouffe, Alaskan B-Wine).
Food-wise? Â Wings were nothing to get excited about but they were true buffalo style. Â Fried, Frank's red hot sauce, done. Â They had other options for the wings. Â French dip is a real sandwich. Â Plenty of meat to balance the big roll. Â The kids liked theirs too. Â The Mac&Cheese is straight velveeta over penne with some shaved cheese on top. Â That's something I would eat, love, and then bury deep in my shameber.
The service was a little tough. Â But I'll cut them slack. Â It was a beautiful sunny weekend day, they had a party of 12 when we came in and parties of 10 plus two 8s showed up while we were there. Â All that with no reservations will throw a kitchen and wait staff off.
I'll go again and give it a hearty recommendation if people are headed a day-trip nearby.
I believe Fred's has stepped things up recently. I have lived in snohomish area for 10 years and until the last year found Fred's hit or miss. However, over the last year they have been completely solid and my wife and I are weekly regulars.
Their beer line up is excellent. They have a great selection of local beers as well as some great out of state beers (e.g. russian river, hair of the dog, etc.). They also have a small selection of imports, e.g. chemay.
The best part about their beer selection is it's mostly a rotating selection. They have a few regular beers that are always on tap, but every week there is something new, even for their imports. This might be the norm for cool bars in seattle but hard to find in the snohomish area.
Each week Fred's features food specials. It appears they have brought in a good chef to develop their specials, they have some interesting and very good dishes.
Between the rotating beer and new specials we are always looking forward to a week visit at Fred's
I do not and have NEVER seen what the buzz is about this place. Yeah, there is a selection of good beer on tap. Okay. Yee Haw.
Food is not more than a drive-inn with an added hint of flavor.
The only thing about this place....it has been here for years-SOMEHOW.
Wait, one more good thing, they are at least responsible enough to care about humanity and NOT over-serve the patrons and put them out on the road to drive.
They have an entire tiny-fonted scotch menu.
The Mick Jagger fries (sweet potato fries with a butter-brown sugar sauce) are incredibly awesome. And they go well with that Guinness. Mmhmm.
The service was well-paced. We never had to flag anyone down or sit with a pile of empty dishes. As a pub, little cherubs are welcome to come on in for grub as well, which is cool.
We're already figuring out when our next trip will be to give the scotch menu a go.
We went there after a long day of hiking, and needed nourishment in the form of beer and also solid food. They have a pretty extensive beer list, with some exotics like Chimay and Lambic from Belgium. The downside is that there are no prices on the beer list. I take away one star for that.
The food was really good, I highly recommend the Mick Jagger, which is sweet potato fries covered in a brown sugar and butter sauce, and manage to stay crispy, full of sweet artery clogging goodness. I also had the gumbo, which was tasty but came lukewarm. My boyfriend had the Mills Burger with the soup of the day, it happened to be Italian Sausage Bean soup and it was really good and hot. Â My friends really liked their Greek Prawn Salad as well.
The service was really spotty, the waitress came and took our drink orders, didn't pause to ask for our food orders. When we placed the food order, the waitress offered the option of cheese on the burger. It was noted nowhere in the menu that cheese was an additional cost. And the waitress did not know how much the cheese upgrade was. I take off another star for that as well.
I'd definitely go back, because it was an enjoyable experience overall, but have low expectations for service.
I kind of like it here. Â Service is slow but the menu is usally pretty good and the food good too. Â The beer selection usually rocks and most of the time there's a table available. Â The halibut fish'n chips is probably the best I've ever had. Â
This place used to be related to the Barking Dog Ale House in Seattle but I thing Fred's sold it and now it's really, really bad. Â
One time we went across the street after our beers to the tavern and a girl fight broke out and they busted bud light bottles over eachothers heads and one got her teeth kicked out. Â It was really gross.
I'm a Sno-ho. Â There, I said it. Â But since I'm a transplant to Snohomish, I am regularly disappointed with the restaurant options "downtown." Â So when I'm looking for an easy lunch, I head over to Fred's.
The food is pretty good--mostly burgers and sandwiches. Â The french dip is tasty, but too big (I almost always need to split it with someone). Â The service is mind-numbingly slow. Â Seriously, does it really take 45 minutes to make a lunch order for two? Â Ugh.
When your only other options in town are a Mexican joint or a traditional British restaurant, the wait at Fred's isn't so bad.
This is one of the only places I know of on the west side of the Cascades where you can taste fresh Winthrop beers. Cask night is on Tuesdays, where you can find the professional beer drinkers and locals spinning fantastic webs of conversation ranging from hunting to ballet (mostly huntin', shootin', offroadin'). Fred's does host dozens of flavors of Scotch (even Talkisker, my favorite), and many microbrews.
The food here is probably some of the better pub food in the city of Snohomish, but that's really not saying too much. Try the Mill Burger, The Ale House Burger, and the Lobster Bisque (artificial lobster, but it still tastes good [did I just say that?]).
Other than fast food joints, the competition for burgers is Jake's (a greasy spoon), Pilchuck Burgers (inspector?!!!!), The Hub (barf), Sebastians (uh, no), Mardini's (pass), and the Buzz Inn (no thanks).
I used to live in Snohomish and still own a house there. Â A general note on restaurants in the City of Snohomish: nothing has changed since E.C. Ferguson founded the city in 1860-- the city of Snohomish food and service sucks, which is why no one food establishment can capitalize on tourists in that town. Someone could make a mint if they actually paid attention to the service part of the equation, because most of the food isn't that good, and Snohomish's demographic is changing with the influx of well-to-do families and Seattle-ites weary of the rat race).
Mostly, Fred's is a place where you go to meet up with a friend, or (if you're a local) to do some business with other clients. The spring and summer crowd can push the pace of the servers and wait staff (who are mostly friendly), and whole families are very welcome here.
Stop in out of the summer heat, and rest your weary bones with a limited production micro brew.
