Bottom line, this place isn't worth your time. We came with 4 adults two children. The hostess tried seating us in a booth for 4, uhh no. Then we got sat in the back by kitchen, the AC was not working, we said something about the heat and the waiters response was "it's about 30 degrees hotter in the kitchen". First off, not my problem. Secondly, I'm a paying customer...there should be some level of professionalism in the way you speak. We can't all get settled quickly because they have no high chair on hand. Someone had to go into the basement to get one and it took a good ten minutes. Cue my 2 year old getting restless and cranky. The waiter finally takes our drink orders. My husband asks if the sam adams seasonal is summer ale, well cause its summer. The waiter says its a spring ale. Probably ild and nasty. i order a corona light. the drinks take forever to get to us. Why, is beyond me as there were only 3 tables eating in the restaurant at the time. The waiter brings me my corona light and says "it's not cold so I brought you a chilled glass". I looked at him confused and he said "would you like a regular corona instead?" I told him yes without trying to show any bit of emotion. At this point, I'm already turned off. We put in our appetizer order, empanadas and shrimp taquitos. The waiter says the shrimp taquitos are no longer on the menu. 3 months after opening and you're already omitting items from the menu? We order chicken quesadillas instead. The empanadas were mediocre and the quesadilla had only dark meat chicken in it. Our food comes out, and two people bring us our food. One guy goes to the other "who ordered this?" And the waiter says while chuckling "just call it out". The enchiladas in red sauce were unbearably hot that not even half was eaten. My sons chicken fingers were unusually dark. I fear that the oil they were fried in was old. The shrimp tacos were mediocre. Throughout our meal the dish washing guy kept walking through the dining area with his hands dripping with soapy water and his pants falling off his butt. We had a good view of the bar from where we were sitting and that seemed to be the area where the staff congregated, used their cellphones, and hung out. One of the bus boys asked if I was done about 20 minutes into getting my meal. Everyone at my table was still eating and I normally would have said no but I was hot (again no AC) and frustrated with the situation so I let him take it away. The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is because it was nicely decorated on the inside. The staff needs to be re-trained and there needs to be a manager out on the floor observing what's going on. Southern hospitality group really needs to start reading reviews in order to have a successful restaurant that will last more than a year. I give this place another 4 months before its doors are closed. And that's being generous.
Review Source:Ok I know restaurants make money on booze but this place is so light on its pours and so high on its price I left this place saying never again. Â Mt first drink came in this little Jar lloaded with ice and poured just over half way. Â I was going to say something but chose not to. Â When round two came I knew I should have spoken up the first time. Â I have paid less an got more in NYC but this is EastMeadow for Pete sakes.
So on to the food, nothing special, certainly nothing so tasty that would make us want to come back for seconds or make us look forward to trying something else. Â The crowd tonight was 4people at the bar and 4 couples in the dining room.
Considering the quality of the food and the light pour, I wont be back
I'm hoping the bad luck of this location stops here. Â It seem nothing lasts in this spot...I'm really hoping Fuego Picante has a new home here and is not like Rub and Kansas City and Ruby's.
Being a big fan of Singelton's also owned by Singh Hospitality...we thought we would give it a shot. Being Mexican/BBQ we had our doubts...when ever duos are in a restaurant one always falls to the waste side. So we ordered both a Mexican dish and a BBQ dish..and we actually ended up sharing both dishes because they were so good.
Food was good....service as good....and a tequila flights...cant go wrong here!!!
We will definitely be back....and fingers crossed the curse of this location ends with Fuego Picante!
Service is the absolute worst. Went on a Friday night, Â the restaurant was quit and slow, which I guess is unusual for them. After being seated, it took 15 minutes for our waitress(Alyssa) to come to our table, Â and that was only because we had to ask another waiter where they were. Â You would think with a wait like that they would go out of their way to be accommodating, Â we thought wrong ad we only saw our waitress twice after that.
It's a shame the service is so poor because the food is actually quite good. Â If your in a pinch for a place with good food, Â and don't care about service, Â this place would be for you. Â If you're like me, Â and service make the experience, Â avoid this place at all costs.
I went in on Mother's Day with a group of us and had a great experience. Â We got the empanadas and nachos for appetizer both were very good. Â Enchiladas and fajita was what I tasted. Â Both very good as well. Â If getting desert definitely get the apple pie jar. Â Was nice but the best part was the service. Â Joseph was server and Vinny was assistant to the server. Â They were on top of there game. Friendly, fast and nice. Â It is mainly because of them that I will be returning.
Review Source:My friends and I went here last night for dinner. After reading the reviews, I was unsure to go or not, because there was an unflattering one, but I decided to give it a chance because there are some people that are just impossible to please and I thought I should give them a chance. I am so glad I went. The food was delicious, we each had fajitas, two shrimp and one chicken. The shrimp and chicken were perfectly cooked. We also ordered a pitcher of margaritas, which had a nice kick to it. The staff was very friendly and I felt like they actually enjoyed working there and were happy to have us as customers. Christian, the manager stopped by to talk to his customers at their tables and see how everything was. There was not one thing bad about this place and I feel it will be here for a long time. I will definitely be returning.
Review Source:I was pretty excited when I saw this restaurant open up recently. Â My boyfriend and I went in and we should have known something was up when on a Friday night at 7pm, we were the only patrons. Â Food sucked, service sucked and it was very overpriced. Â We got the guacamole for an appetizer, it was pretty tasteless, it definitely needed lime and cilantro and just about every other ingredient guacamole requires. Â I got the fish tacos for dinner and my boyfriend got the ribs. Â The fish tacos were also tasteless and the fish tasted really old. Â The ribs that my boyfriend got were supposed to be slow-cooked and they were far from. Â Little meat was able to come off the bone, they were incrediably tough and inedible. Â He brought most of it home just to throw it out days later. Â The service was not good what-so-ever and considering we were the only patrons, it should have been impecible. Â Oh, and the bill came up to well over $100 and I didnt even have a drink.
Review Source:Excellent new place on Hempstead. It's the best of both worlds: Mexican and BBQ. The chips and salsa were very good and fresh. I had the Short Rib dinner which was a great piece of BBQed meat. The rest of my table all had positive things to say about their choices as well, ranging from the more traditional Mexican dishes and the BBQ. They also have a pretty good beer list, which will never hurt my rating. The only downside that stopped me from giving this place Five Stars was that the service was a little slow. But overall, Fuego Picante was a great experience and I'm looking forward to going back and trying something else.
Review Source:Sat at the bar on a Saturday night because we wanted to eat dinner and enjoy some tequila flights. Â We were excited to try this place because of the http://Yelp.com reviews (that don't add up with our experience and similar ones we witnessed) and their nice Tequila selection we saw on their website. Â At the bar there also were some neat looking infusion tequilas with fruits inside of them and a nice selection of premium brand tequilas we excited to try! We told the bartender we read about this place on http://Yelp.com and were excited to try some of their tequilas. The first thing the bartender did is put down 2 napkins and ask, "What can I get you?" - Ummmmmmm - how about a drink menu?. She hands us a drink menu that features martinis -we are still perplexed. We mention again, we want to try tequila, another bartender looks at us perplexed and asks another bartender what to do. Â So then another person says, "Give them the skinny black menu". We order a flight. I am already feeling concerned because it is early in the night and you can see the girls behind the bar are still very unfamiliar with every part of their jobs. I have to give the bartender my phone where I Google imaged photos of the brands to help her find the tequilas we ordered because she has no idea what she is looking for. Was there ANY training at this establishment - at all?? While we are waiting 10+ minutes we are sipping on horrible Micheladas. The beer was flat and nothing close to traditional Micheladas. Â It was flat Dos XX draft and Tabasco sauce - yuck.
While still waiting for her search to end for our flight I over hear another patron at the bar complain her drink was,"Not good." She had what looked like a strawberry drink in a tall margarita glass. I hear the bartender apologize they are still learning the drink menu, they have only been open 3 weeks. Oy! The bartender comes back to us and says she does not have some of the tequilas we ordered. I told her, "I see them on the shelf (I pointed)". She explained multiple times that they have only been open three weeks and she doesn't know much yet. I am thinking that Management should really make training a priority - after all, The entire wall of the bar was covered in their large Tequila selection. This would imply that as a concept, Tequila was the focus of their bar offerings. Not to mention, we are starting to worry maybe the kitchen staff might have received the same poor level of training.
I asked the bartender if she was sure that Casa Dragones was included in the flight at the fixed cost. She said, "Should be." Â I asked again, "Are you sure?" She said, "Ya, it's fine." I suppose she second guessed my inquiry because she got a manager named Christian and asked him in front of us, "These people want to know how much more they have to pay to have Casa Dragones in their flight?" - That's not what I asked -- at all! Â The bartender then had a sudden epiphany and said, "If it has an ASTEROID next to the name it may not be included." An "Asteroid? My husband said, "Do you mean an asterisk*?" We could not tell if there were asteroids because it was very dark at the bar. Â Christian the manager, looks straight at us and said, "You don't want to know how much this tequila flight is, it's top of the line." Â WOW!!!! He's talking to us like we rode up on bicycles and no shoes on. Last week we were at The St. Regis King Cole Bar trying Patron Platinum by the glass, how can he presume to know our budget?.
Christian looked at the menu and I pointed to the section of Silver Tequilas and showed him which 4 we asked for in our flight. Â He then went on to refer to them as Anejos. Â Clearly even the manager was unclear in the tequila selection nor could he clearly decipher their own menu which nicely broke out the Tequilas in to 3 distinct sections: Silver, Repesado and Anejo. Â Yet, none of the 3 bartenders or manager had any clue. Â If this were my business I would have my entire bar staff retrained immediately and teach them to meet the needs of the customers and the establishment. Â I told Christian, "Our experience is not going so smoothly here - we have been waiting a long time just to try a tequila - I'm ready to leave." He looked at us, shrugged his shoulders and walked away. WOW!! Â Someone please teach some customer service manners to this manager STAT! Â I don't like to see LI businesses fail, but this is no way to success.
By now we are both feeling that we made a mistake coming here... no one knew much of anything - and they especially new NOTHING about customer service or tequila. Â We were very doubtful our food experience would be positive. We left - best decision we made.
Excellent food, knockout drinks and terrific service! What more could you want? A welcome addition to the neighborhood. I highly recommend the jalapeno margarita which has a great kick to it. Our waitress, Dana, was really friendly, attentive and made some terrific recommendations. The only thing that kept this from being five stars was a side dish that came with the recommended entree was not prepared yet and we had to substitute. A minor inconvenience as the substitute was fabulous. I would recommend that they have a better placement of the sign out front so more people would notice from the main road. As I write this, I'm about to return for another great meal.........................and Jalapeno Margarita.
Review Source:Just opened this week is a welcome surprise offering from the Singh Hospitality Group, called Fuego Picante. I had a feeling after a few visits to KC Smokehouse that it wouldn't last long, and I was hoping for something to liven up the area. I was not disappointed. The renovations were beautiful, the stained glass panels dividing the bar area cut down the noise and I loved the faux stained glass shades over the windows to match. Beautiful job.
But the food was key and this mix of mexican with bbq works. The BBQ Grilled Rib-eye that passed my way on its way to someone else's table made me salivate just by looking at it. But, we ordered the ribs and again, were not disappointed with the thick juicy rack of ribs that could stand on their rub alone. Thick and meaty, with a bite, yet still coming right off the bone. We shared an order their specialty nachos, the warm chips covered with shredded short ribs braised in root beer, jalapenos, salsa and a number of other tasty sauces to wake up your senses. More than enough to share. I had the Mexi-Shrimp, fire roasted with tomatillo-chile butter sauce, sweet potato masa cake and sautéed spinach. Excellent combination of flavors.
I'm definitely going back - I intend to order nothing but appetizers because every one looks delicious, and lots of tequila from their 80 tequila menu. The staff was knowledgeable and efficient, friendly and helpful. Although I wish Fuego Picante the best of luck in this venture, I don't think they'll need it. I have a feeling they'll be around long enough to make it into my fav's section. Check out my profile see more, along with the photos
This is a nice looking venue with a decent amount of inside space that never becomes successful. We have personally watched it turn over 3 times ( RUB and Kansas City Smokehouse) in very short order. But that's not all, it also housed Long Fin, BeSi, Ruby's Famous BBQ and Louis & Marxx. They were all owed by the Singh Hospitality Group.
Fuego Picante is Mexican/BBQ . We stopped in yesterday for a peek, a cocktail and apps. The food and drink menu was interesting. We ordered the smoked short rib nachos, a Mexican draft and a margarita. They have all these far-out flavors you can add to any drink for a buck in addition to flavor infused tequilas. The short ribs were tender and flavorful. The platter was huge! They also have some vegan choices, Mexican dishes and barbeque options.
Service was outstanding! The manager stopped by to say hello which is always a nice touch. The bartender was excellent! Â Bathroom was spotless.
I really hope this restaurant breaks the "curse" and lasts for a while. It's close to home and we miss them when their renovating for their next gig.
