Robert and Donna know their stuff! Their selection of wine is extensive and completely exclusive- you won't find their wines at BevMo! They are both so knowledgable and patient in helping a novice like me select a wine. I can honestly say I've never had a wine I didn't like at Gaffney's!

Unpretentious wine bar which is a relief compared to some of the newer places.  Don't expect extravagant wine-food pairings with esoteric descriptions.  This is a local joint frequented by locals who know the owners.  A place for people who want to meet other people who just want to talk about the wine without all the other stuff in the way.  Small enough to be quaint, classy enough to please all wine lovers.  Low-key, homey, and easy to enjoy wine without distraction.

This place is really cool for wine-tasting or just to buy a great bottle of wine!  Thank you on behalf of the Rancho Santa Fe Unit of Rady Children's Hospital Auxiliary.

Checked this place out on a Friday night for something different - I love 3rd Corner and Wine Steals but I didn't have it in me to be loud or stand around waiting to sit down.

Gaffney's definitely seems to cater to a bit of an older crowd.  It was quiet and more expensive than what I'm used to, but the wine was damn good.  They have a nice selection to choose from to create your own flight, or you can have it by the glass.

The service was pretty great - the gentleman was very knowledgeable and not at all condescending when we asked questions. He made great suggestions on what to choose, and also hooked us up with a couple of free samples because we had to wait a bit for our order to be brought to us.

The ambiance is kind of strange - it feels like it's not quite finished yet or something.  But overall, it's worth checking out, especially if you want to save yourself the hassle of the busier wine bars in town.

If I could, I'd give this place 3.5 stars, but since I like to support places like this I'll round up.  Check it out.

Gaffney's staff may have extensive knowledge about wines, but they sure are not patient with people who have questions or are not as knowledgeable. The glasses and bottles are reasonably priced but the cheese plates, etc.. are not worth the price. Having said all that, I have taken past dates to Gaffney' s and had a great time, but that was due to the wine and my date!

Love, love, love this place!  The pate is amazing and the conversation is NEVER dull! The prices are more than reasonable and they need your business!  I have been there a handful of times, and am consistently impressed with the quality of their wines.  Donna marinates her own yummy olives and the olive oil is ecstasy!!
You can take a bottle of almost everything to go...and ask about the sweet peppers, you will be glad you did!

This is a great laid back place for wine.  They just relocated from the Lumberyard.  The wines are great and the owners are really nice.   This place is no frills which is great because it keeps the cost down on the wines

Hands down my favorite wine bar in SD County!  I love the owners, they are very experienced and love what they do!  They pick their fights with great care and often pick selections from Napa/Sonoma and the Central Coast so I know I can always find a great Pinot here.  I also love the fact they serve flights with 1/2 glasses of wine and I must say their pours are very generous. :)

I agree with all the reviewers. Very homey. Great service. Yummy wines. The only issue I had was that the food (appetizer like cheese plate) was light and over priced. I wished that we could have brought some food over from I Trulli, a great Italian place across the street. That would have been perfection.

This wine bar isn't pretentious and is very low key and has a warm enterior with great service. The owners spend a lot of time teaching you about wine and let you sample several selections until you find what you like.

You can even take a bottle over to Meritage on Wed for no corkage fee. It's fabulous!

I love this place. I love the low key, completely unpretentious atmosphere. My fiancee and I spoke with the owners while there and they've got it all figured out.

For the record, one of my favorite things about this place is something that Sarah T. didn't seem to like: "The handwritten and xeroxed wine lists were stuffed into old plastic sheet protectors and scattered messily about the tables." I love it!

I went to this place several times over the last few years, but have not been back in about a year. The first few times I went I found it 'just ok'. The wine is a bit overpriced and the atmosphere is dark and uninviting. The final straw for me is that the service leaves so much to be desired. The husband and wife owners seemed pleasant at first, but the husband is usually deep into something and takes forever to get to you (not a multi-tasker apparently) and on my last visit the wife was downright rude. She seemed to be having an off-day, and the customers were the nearest 'dog' to kick. That's not what I look for in my precious little free time. Not at their prices -- not even for free ! At the other end of the shoping center about 150 feet away is Meritage (Sbicca) Restaurant with an excellent wine list, friendly staff, good prices, and very good food -- a no-brainer.

Gaffney's Wine Bar is owned and operated by Robert and Donna Gaffney, seasoned wine connoisseurs. They opened their doors in 2000 and have served more varieties of wines than all of the restaurants in Encinitas combined as their list changes bi-weekly. That's a lot of wine.

You can enjoy a sampler of their featured wines or 1/2 glasses so you can try a variety of your choices.

the interior is inviting and warm and not intimidating in the least. You can visit this place without any knowledge of wines and not feel embarrassed at all. The owners are actually the servers so you get the best and most exact information on each wine.

And for the wine aficionado or aficionado to be, they also hold event nights where local producers and from other regions can introduce their newest editions. Some of these nights even sell out.

They serve some of the best aged cheeses as well as salads and pates to complement your tasting adventure.
