I rate this high on quality of food preparation and quality of taste. You can always tell a decent restaurant by how they prepare basic vegetables. The cauliflower and broccoli was prepared perfectly. The steak they brought was excellent and prepared medium rare as I asked. My only issue with the meal was I would rather have a thick steak versus a big steak. My steak was a large thinner cut.

Service is good. Place is clean.

Ambiance is low and out-dated. Restaurant location is not the greatest as well.
Forgetting these points, George's is a good place.

Hidden Gem........I took my mom for mothers day lunch (she wanted steak or prime rib) and we had a great meal. Everything from the veggies (fresh and cooked perfectly), coleslaw (fresh and crunchy) huge perfect baked potato, prime rib (med and perfectly cooked AND cut) with my kind of onion rings (tempera style batter) perfectly cooked. I've never eaten here before but now I've found a nice steak house. No offense TX roadhouse aka dog and pony show lol so loud you cant enjoy your perfect meal, Minden's Beef House ( 1 star for the perfect onion rings) YUK!! used to the best and now it's not, Tahoe Joes (never been but with everything I've read I'm not missing anything, Not so Kool Hand Lukes (I'll give them 3 star's for trying) Elegant Bull 0 stars(horrible, still having bad dreams about that place)BUT how hard is to cook steak and potato's??? This is my new prime rib place and hopefully when I go back I can try a steak!! Sorry, if I sound so harsh but with the high prices of "high quality steak house" it should knock my socks off!! And my mom brought a coupon lol prime rib for two with iced tea $31.95...Thanks for a great day!!! I'll be back soon:)

I honestly thought this was a wonderful place. I went there a few months ago during a business trip, and i havent been on yelp in quite some time. But seeing my check-in there, made me remember how much it was warranted a review:

I remember the lady who was my waitress was very polite and talkative, especially since i felt so alone there, she made me feel very welcome. The food was prepared exactly as i pictured it when i ordered it. Most places usually do something unwanted when preparing your food but, it was spot on. The waitress also not only made sure i didnt have to look for her if i needed something, she conversed with me while i ate. I fully welcomed that, and I just wish i could've had her sit and enjoy a meal with me, and had a great conversation. You really don't see that type of service much anymore.
I hope she still works there, and makes great money. I couldn't help myself so I gave her 20 bucks for a tip. (I just wish I had more) I've bookmarked this page, and if I ever go out in that area, I promise to be back for sure!

I recently had lunch at this restaurant. I ordered a tri-tip sandwich. . The meat was completely dry and dark brown. It was like eating beef jerky. It was the worst sandwich I have ever eaten.

Only there once. The food was good and very reasonably priced; however, the service was exceedingly slow. Perhaps they were just having an off day. I'll try again another time.

We just moved to Modesto a couple weeks ago and were looking to find a non-chain steakhouse. SO happy we stumbled across George's. We were a little nervous at first since we don't really know anyone here (so no one could vouch for the food for us) and this was our first real night out in Modesto.

The garlic bread that came out first was really flavorful and delicious. I ordered the prime rib and my husband ordered the ribs. Both were to die for! I used to work at a steakhouse and I am very picky about how my meat is cooked and I love a GOOD prime rib. My prime rib was medium rare just as I had ordered and had the BEST flavor I have ever had with prime rib. Even my husband who is not usually a fan of prime rib could not keep his paws off my plate. My husband's ribs were smothered in a delicious sauce and literally fell right off the bone. The ribs are by far the best we have ever had in a restaurant.

Service was efficient and friendly and the guitarist playing throughout dinner added a very nice touch to the whole evening. All in all we had a great night and will definitely be back.

It's nice that there is a steakhouse that isn't a large chain that is good in the neighborhood. Pretty good food, good portions. The menu you would expect at a steakhouse with decent prices. What I am really impressed with is the salmon actually. I tried it last time I went and my oh my was it delicious. My parents were jealous of me because it looked even better that their prime rib!!
My only complaint lies with the ambiance, the wait staff isn't the greatest and the acoustics in there are terrible. They can get away with it though because the food is good.

I've been back to George's 3 more times, and have always had the BBQ ribs and they have been just as perfect as the first time. Best ribs EVER!

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE HERE! IF ANYONE READS THIS LINE, GIVE THIS PLACE A 1 STAR BAD REVIEW JUST FOR TO BRING THEIR GENEROUS 3+ STAR RATING DOWN.

When we first walked in, it was so dark and all I saw was spider webs all over the place. It smelled like mildew with that old rotten building smell. The place looked like a wanna be Mexican restaurant with random decor. My wife was whispering "Robert Irvine" to me. We came here to use our Groupon and we'll get to that later.

They gave us a menu with normal low end steakhouse items. The even squeezed in some "south of the border" selections which you should stay away from and go to the taco trucks, or the taqueria next door. We got our two sandwiches french dip and new york steak sandwich.

The food came in decent time. It came with stale packaged steak fries. The bun was soggy wet and could have been toasted longer. The steak had some bones in it which made it hard to eat the sandwich. The roast beef was dry and the au jus tasted like powdered beef broth.

We decided to try tres leches cake for dessert which was a big mistake. It was grainy and dry. It had a fruit cake taste and I've had boxed tres leches cake that was better.

FINALLY WE GOT TO THE GROUPON. I SHOWED IT TO THE WAITRESS AND SHE WROTE DOWN THE CODE NUMBER. AFTER SHE WENT AWAY, I NOTICED SHE DID NOT PRESS ON MARK AS REDEEMED LIKE OTHER PLACES THAT TAKE GROUPON. SHE THEN CAME BACK WITH THE OTHER WAITRESS AND TOLD ME SINCE I REDEEMED IT, I COULD NOT USE IT. SHE SAID THERE WAS NO PROOF THAT I REDEEMED IT ON THAT VISIT. I SHOWED HER THE SCREEN ON MY PHONE THAT IT WAS REDEEMED ON THE SAME DAY. SHE CALLED HER MANAGER AND THEY DID NOT HONOR MY GROUPON.

I went ahead and paid. I called later and asked to speak to the manager. The person answering my call told me she was off site and would take a message and number to call me back. Someone called me back saying she was the manager and it sounded like the same person with the restaurant noise in the back round. She insisted that she was the manager. I told her I just spoke to her. She then went on to say that she's the manager now.

I would not go back to this place again and would not recommend it to anyone. Get a refund on your Groupon if you never redeemed it. HEY MANAGER! IF YOU WANT ANOTHER STAR, GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK!

I don't get some of the 4-star reviewers here - they'll say the service was great, the food tasty, yet they give no reason why they docked a star from the review. To me, if you can't something bad with the restaurant, don't deduct points! I am only assuming because the restaurant is not in a fancy area or features elegant seating that these reviewers gave it the rating they did. But I digress...

Went with the wife for lunch on a recent Groupon deal that was offered - I ordered a New York steak sandwich and my wife ordered a Tri Tip sandwich. I ordered mine well done so no problems with the way it was cooked (unlike the last reviewer who liked theirs a little more red and got it overcooked). You get the steak served inside a soft French roll and topped with delicious mushrooms. The steak was full of flavor, which is a big plus because some restaurants that serve steak give the meat no flavor and rely on steak sauces for flavoring. The steak fries that came with the sandwich were nothing out the ordinary - tasty, and similar to the steak fries you'd get at any restaurant. I tried my wife's tri tip sandwich and found the meat good, but not great. It just needed a bit more flavor.

I would give this restaurant 4.5 stars because of the tri tip sandwich but am rounding to 5 since I can't use half a star. The service was friendly and we waited about 10 mins to get our food with three other tables with guests. Definitely worth a trip back!

Went for lunch two weeks ago, very yummy! I had the buffalo chicken sandwhich, If you like buffalo sauce(I love it) this is for you, very tasty with lots of blue cheese on soft perfectly toasted bread. My other half had a steak sandwhich and said everything about it was perfect, except it was over cooked. He ordered M/R and it was more W/D, said it was still tender and flavorful, but not as good as it should have been. The over cooking is the reason I gave 4 stars. We also went there once for dinner and got a steak that was on the wrong side of medium. This girl likes a rare steak!! We will go back but will make sure to ask that any steaks are not over cooked.

Went for the first time on Mother's Day. Didn't know what to expect but the food was delicious! I tasted the prime rib (YUM!!) and had the seafood pasta with white wine sauce. OMG it was delicious and I'm picky with my pasta! Will definitely come back and I'm all the way in San Jose!

I have only had lunch here, never tried the dinner.

They have good burgers with great buns.

They are pushing the high side on price when it comes to getting a burger for lunch, but it is a good burger.

The staff is friendly, attentive, and the food usually comes out fast.

I dont understand why ppl are making a big deal of the decor here. Its western cowboy/Mexican? Cowboys were rooted from Spain/Mexico.

Anywho, food was good. Service was SLOW. They have 2 ppl working the whole place. The steak was ok. Server forgot a lot of things. I didnt even to want to give her a tip. I'll have to go back and give it a second try.

This is one of those places that I have driven by, thought hum, I should try that place, but never have until we purchased some http://Restaurant.com coupons. Wow, I am so glad we did. My husband and I have been three times now. It is consistently very good! Every time we go we get the rack of ribs. The ribs are out of this world good - Meaty, flavorful - heaven. The portions are huge (enough for lunch the next day ;). The veggies served are always cooked perfect and flavorful. The servers are kind and very attentive. Two of the three times we went there was live music (sat nights). I agree with other yelpers about the décor. It looks more like a Mexican restaurant. Don't let the look and the area fool you this place has yummy food and great service.

Despite the confused decor, the service is good and the food is plentiful. Now, I am not a beef person, so I cannot discuss the steak quality, but I can say the meals that I have had there, both seafood, were delicious! The seafood linguine was so large, that I had a whole plateful left! At a steep 17.95 price, the portions made it worth it. Plus they are on http://restaurant.com, so you can eat there on a budget.

My wife and I decided we wanted a steak and based upon the reviews on yelp we decided to give this place a try. Big mistake. While the place was clean, it felt like a cheap Mexican restaurant that they had attempted to make look western without much luck. The live music was nice, however.

For the food the first sign of trouble was the iced tea, not sure of the flavor but neither I nor my wife liked it and that's usually all we order to drink when we go out.

The bread wasn't what I would call fresh while it was edible, it was mediocre at best.

I had the prime rib with baked potato and vegetables, while my wife had the ribeye steak with mashed potatoes and cole slaw.

My prime rib had way too much fat on it, leaving much of it inedible. I understand a prime rib should have a good vein of fat in it, but this was beyond that. While it was cooked to the right temp, it wasn't seasoned and had little flavor. The Au Jus tasted no better then the stuff that comes out of a packet from a grocery store. My vegetables were bland and seemed a bit undercooked. My baked potato was cooked fine and while it wasn't amazing, I also have no complaints about it.

My wife's rib eye definitely didn't weigh in properly. I have cooked many a steak and know how thick a 14 oz steak should be, and this wasn't it. Additionally it wasn't seasoned and was undercooked. More importantly it wasn't cooked at a proper temperature for a steak. A good steak should have a good sear on it, and this didn't have it. The grill they cooked it on clearly doesn't have enough heat to cook a steak the way it should be in a steakhouse. Her mashed potatoes were also very dry. A little butter or cream would have gone a long way in the potatoes. My wife said that the tastiest thing on her plate was the garnish, which was an slice of orange.

We definitely won't be going back. I'm usually very forgiving in a restaurant, but this place seemed confused.... the menu seemed to have more pizza and fish choices than for steak, and this place is a 'steakhouse' and had the decor of a family mexican joint. If you call yourself a steakhouse, please at least understand how to properly select, season, and cook a quality steak. I give it a 2 star because the wait staff was pleasant and the place was clean, but the food definitely wasn't worth the price we paid.

Being that this is the first time eating at this restaurant expectations were pretty much take it as you get it. Granted we did go in there with coupon in hand and expecting to be able to use it but evidently the coupon says five dollars off lunch doesn't include the lunch specials.. go figure.

That having been said the restaurant has a very Mexican restaurant decor at a steakhouse kind of weird.

Food was fast, flavorful and the steak fries were fantastic. The service was definitely above par.

Definitely worth giving it a shot

Ate here for the first time the other evening...We found it to be the best Ribs and Prime Rib in this whole town. We eat out a lot and no other restaurant compares to George's Steakhouse.
Keep the good recipe going...

I really wanted to like this place, I really did. All the positive reviews on here drove me to give it a shot. I went with my wife and my daughter who is three and a half. Upon arriving we were greeted and seated right away and the staff was nice and the live music was a plus. The issues started with our waiter. He came to our table and asked us what we would like to drink. We ordered our drinks and they came and were correct. My wife decided to order the fillet mignon steak and ordered pasta for our daughter with the sauce on the side as she doesn't like sauce much. I asked the waiter what he recommends and he recommended the prime rib. I decided to go with his recommendation and added blue cheese crumbles as the topping. When our food arrived, my prime rib steak was anything but prime. It was bloody and undercooked and contained about 60 to 80% fat to the point I was hunting to cut out a peace of steak that wouldn't contain fat I would have to spit back out into my napkin. I then realized my waiter had not asked me how I wanted my steak cooked. I also realized my blue cheese topping was missing and before I could say something the waiter did catch it and said he would be right back with my topping. I was semi puzzled as having come from good steakhouses, I am used to it being sprinkled on top of the steak. I could only assume he was coming back with a new steak...nope. Instead he came back with a little tiny tipping cup that had melted blue cheese inside it. I then had to pour the blue cheese topping on my steak which didn't hide the fact it was bloody and 80% fat. My wifes Fillet Mignon came burnt on the outside and raw on the inside. In their defense, she was pregnant and maybe a fillet mignon might not have been the best choice for something you wanted well done but regardless it wasn't cooked right. My daughters pasta came and the sauce was mixed in. Overall this experience here was highly disappointing. Also upon rereading all the reviews on here for this place, I realized they were all for other menu Items that were not steak from here! and the one review that was for a steak item was negative and pretty much summed it up, "not much flavor and slightly overcooked" And for the $70 we paid here, we could have had a better experience at velvet creamery for less money!

Good variety on the menu. They make an awesome burger with high quality beef, but never order Mexican at a steak house. My husband ordered the enchilada combo but wishes he would have had a burger. Prices average. service was good & prompt. Easy access off the highway.

The Church Staff Holiday Dinner was held tonight at George's. There were 13 of us in all including spouses. Our servers were Amanda and Erica. They were fantastic. Personable and attentive. The prices were reasonable and the food was GREAT! The portions were ample.
I had the prime rib. At 7:00pm I was able to order a rare cut and got exactly what I ordered. So many times I've been unable to get a rare prime rib because of the hour. Not at George's. The kitchen staff really seem to know what they are doing.
This was a very enjoyable experience and you will not be disappointed.

We were searching for a good steakhouse in the area and had painted a picture in mind that the decor/atmosphere would be comparable to Hungry Hunter or something similar. Not! Located in a small strip mall shopping area, we walked in and thought "Are we in the right place? This is a steakhouse right"? Think Outback meets El Torito - with a stage at the long mural wall and a couple of guys in cowboy hats with guitars singing cover songs. I had to hold in my chuckle when we were greeted at the front.

Okay, we get over the whole get up - we sit down and order the pulled pork nachos - outrageous! (and huge for only $8 bucks and some change). I mentioned they were outrageous right?

Our server tells us the specials. Not on the menu, the 2 meat special (any meats listed on the menu, except the lamb chops & fish) with a side of veggies and mashed potatoes, all for just $16.95. Sounds like a good deal so I get it. WOW, HUGE huge PLATE. I chose the prime rib with 1/2 a rack of bbq pork ribs. This thing was big enough for two people. Literally stuffed. And super nice server who hooked us up with her business card for a discount for the next time we go. Sa-weet.

Gotta remember to upload the pics I took while here, stay tuned.

You want some yummy salmon that is seasoned really well, and juicy and not dry. Then come to George's. It's hard to find decent salmon locally, it's my favorite fish and I always have to try it everywhere I go because I'm always trying to find a really good one. Now I can look no farther.. I liked there veggies too crisp and flavorful.

Nice clean atmosphere. I had the 16 oz. rib eye steak with vegetables. I ordered it medium to get medium well. It looked a bit over cooked. It wasn't as tender and as flavorful either. The vegetables were cooked nice and crispy, but didn't compliment my steak. It's ashamed too because our service wasn't bad.

I loved this place. The food was great, the service was friendly and professional. But what tops it off for me is he live entertainment between 5:30 and 8:30 on Friday and Saturday nights. I hate staying up late waiting for the show to start at 10:00. I'm asleep by then. This place is perfect for those over 35 years old who still enjoy live entertainment and music.

The Chips and Salsa were very good. I had the Chicken Enchiladas, my dinner mate had the Pork Chops. Reasonably priced as well.

I'll definitely be going back on Friday and Saturday nights to enjoy dinner with live music. The only drawback is not a lot of parking early in the evening as they share a parking area with other businesses, but later as the other business close for the day the parking situation improves.
