People, there is some confusion as to which place this is. Â Years ago, there used to be this amazing sub sandwich place in Chatsworth call Giamela's. Â They had the HUGE pepper steak sandwiches and the peppers and tomatoes, and pickles would fall out the bun. Â They were freaking awesome. Â I just called the location in Chatsworth, and they said they don't serve those any longer. Â Only at the Sunland and Los Feliz locations, is what the lady said.
Review Source:Giamelas, well they are located at the Lamplighter on Desoto.I usually never dine in the restaurant.I usually go to the pub,bar right next door.I usually like ordering a pitcher of beer to share with friends and enjoy along side my steak sandwich.I also order a side of marinara add it to my sandwich .They have really good mozzerella sticks, onion rings, some of the best dipped in ranch. The decor has been recently remodeled ehhh its ok liked the old look of the place before.I still will go back when I am in the mood for a good sandwich, order it with grilled onions and chilis on the side
to bite into...
I have been following these guys around the west valley for a number of years now. Â Originally on Sherman way, then moving to Deering, then to Roscoe Blvd and never opened, and now shacked up with Lamplighter Restaurant.
The Subs are always delicious no matter where they are selling them. Â They are in close competition to only 2 other "Real" Italian sub places in the west valley.
Giamela's is in the Lamplighter restaurant. Saw my co-worker eating a ginormous sub for lunch. I happen to call in an order and ended up ordering the Large Pepper Steak w/Bell Peppers and Mayo. Not sure if I waited to long to pick it up but when I took it back to the office, the bread was soggy and almost everything in the sandwhich spilled out of the sub. :( I was expectiing more from it. The sandwidh was huge but taste wise, it was okay. I've had better.
Review Source:Heard about these guys a while ago, decided to try it today. What a disappointment! Â The place smelled like stale cigarettes, urine and old beer from next door. Â The sandwich, pepper steak, lacked an overall flavor expected. Guess Andy's Subs has spoiled me with quality. Â Back to Andy's for me, I won't stray again for a pepper steak, I'm sorry.
Review Source:The best pepper steak sandwich around! Â The steak is perfect, great roll, chopped pickles, onions & tomatoes make this an irresistible meal. Â You cannot find a sandwich this big and this good for this price anywhere! Â So take a bite of a pepper and then fuel the burn with some scrumptious steaming hot steak... oh it hurts so good!
Review Source:If only I can get the pickles, tomatoes and onions to stay in the sandwich with each bite! I really really really love their sandwiches. The hot pastrami and Italian cold cut subs are my favorite. The prices are very reasonable.
It is a little strange that they have moved inside the Lamplighter, but its still close to my work, so I will let it slide. ;)
if you like big food great prices this is the place, the hot sandwiches are huge the coldcut sandwiches are hit and miss, but when I get a chance I always stop in and take a pepper steak or two home, if your bored with sub way togos and all, don't want to pay brent's prices although they are mostly worth it, this is a great change of pace, but be hungry big rolls lots of meats and pepers tomatoes and onions
Review Source:I am glad the moved into the Lamplighter restaurant location as they make Old school BIG sandwiches with carrots sticks and peppers on the side. They remind me of what Matt and Tony's was before they sold.  I have had the Tuna, pastrami, roast beef, and the roast beef & peppers sandwiches which were all very good and I ate them for two days each. I only get them to go and take them back to the office. The restaurant also has been serving what I think is the Best broasted chicken dinner in California and I have been eating at there at  Lamplighter for over 30 years. Breakfast is something I do there a few times a month, good food with good service. The only problem is their desserts are nothing special, so when I eating there, dessert is always at another restaurant.
Review Source:Giamela's used to be on Deering Street, among other locations they've had over the years. Actually now their new home will shortly be on the corner of Topanga Blvd and Roscoe Blvd.
Currently they are in the Lamplighter restaurant. If you're like me and don't always know which way you're going, you'll mistakenly stumble into the smoke infested enviroment of the attached bar, with its crowd of lonely old people (and not so old people) who think drinks are for breakfast. Oops.
So, reroute yourself into the restaurant entrance. The old people in here may hit the bar after...but the stench of stale cigarette smoke is less apparent.
At the front counter is a menu for Giamela's. Don't ask too much of the hostess (no Mensa candidate), just glance at the menu and order.
The subs are good. Truthfully, I'm looking forward to the relocation, because they were awesome when they were not housed in a  seedy coffee shop. Great heaping portions of meats and rough chopped vegetables piled into a nice roll. The roast beef and their meatball subs were excellent. Prices are reasonable...under $10 including a drink.
