Glow is located inside of the Mariott (Hotel) Marina Del Rey, and has nice outdoor seating and even in the daytime the fireplace is kept burning for ambiance.
The seats are as comfortable as nice outdoor patio lounge furniture is generally.
They do have a happy hour that begins at 5:00pm on weekdays.
The parking is okay in the area, you can either do the valet with the hotel (I have no idea of the cost but based on speculation I'd venture to guess it could be expensive) or find street parking outside in the neighboring areas along Washington Blvd where there's 2 hr meters and also if you're willing to walk, maybe a few residential street parking spaces (but I doubt many without having a multitude of restrictions since this is walking distance from the beach). Â
The service here was good, very accommodating.
The food was okay and on par with what's expected by hotel bar food standards in both quality and price.
I went here at a late afternoon, pre-evening weekday, so it wasn't crowded.
There were only 2 other people here when I came with a friend - score! The whole ambiance is perfect in my book. The fire in the wall, the glass fire pits, the waterfall wall, the open spaces, the gazebo structure with chairs in it. You can relax and chat with friends or look up and gaze at the sky. The service was quick and friendly. Because there were hardly any people there it was actually a very tranquil experience. I would definitely go back again!
Review Source:I quite enjoyed my evening here, It was very romantic and intimate. The fireplaces outside were a great focal points to all of their seating areas. Couches were comfortable, our waitress was very nice, and although pricey, had some pretty decent appetizers and drinks. I was taken there as a prelude to my valentines day evening and I thought it was lovely. I thoroughly enjoyed cuddling up to my date and having a great conversation. I hope I will be going back.
Review Source:I came here with a bunch of girlfriends for a bachelorette party. The maid of honor lives close to this area and heard it was a nice place to go for a more subdued evening out.
It was VERY subdued. It was a very nice outdoor space. Open, but intimate because of the candles and lighting and the huge fireplace. There were a lot of people there around our age (don't you dare ask how old I am! haha)... it was definitely not a place for college kids, which was nice. Sometimes I don't mind a little beer pong, but we're trying to get fancy here.
It was a Saturday night and although we were expecting something chill, we were also expecting to dance. The DJ wasn't allowed to play top 40 hip hop. How the hell are we going to get our groove on if there wasn't danceable music? It's Saturday night for goodness sake! It's supposed to be party night! At the end of the night, the DJ gave the maid of honor a cd of his hip hop mix. We listened to it in the car and wow... we missed out. The music on his cd was 1990's/2000's hip hop and R&B, you know the good stuff, not any of this crappy autotuned rap crap which have lyrics that don't make sense -- "I'm a venereal disease like a menstrual bleed"... does Lil' Wayne not know periods aren't VDs??? Idiot...
Anyway, two of the girls and I kept drinking because that's really all we could do there. Drink, chat, drink, chat some more, keep warm by the fire place, drink... The drink prices were average for Los Angeles. I honestly don't remember how much I spent on the round of drinks I bought. So that means it was neither expensive nor cheap.
I would go here again if I wanted a place to relax and chill with a date. I wouldn't come here for my bachelorette party though, it was wayyyyy too chill for that.
I have partied a few time at Glow oh say, back in 2007 or so. Â Things have changed since then. A lot. Â I remember a packed bar, dancing, bouncer and the ability to get in to some shenanigans.
Fast forward to a Friday night in 2012. Â No bouncer, not very crowded, and yes a DJ, but only about 4 or so white chicks dancing with each other. Â The crowd has matured, Â early 30's, with dudes suited up, hoping for it to be legen...wait for it...dary! lol.
All in all this place is chill, nice for a drink and conversation if you want to be able to hear your companions. Â Things will not get crazy here. Â It's located at the Marriott in Marina del Rey. Â You probably really only know about it if you are familiar with the area.
I do like the outside/fireplace/couch ambiance.
Tip: Park in the public lot #10 right across the street for about $3, instead of shelling out change with the hotel valet service.
This has now been the latest place NOT to hang out! Word is spreading very fast that hey have given them selves a very bad reputation after a girls B-day party on Saturday night! A group paid for a table, had NO bottle service by the girls what so ever and expected to pay the 20% gratuity. Not to forget the very rude manager Michelle who went ahead and charged someone else's credit card for $937,
who didn't even book that table!!! Oh and the DJ and MC suck coz they could not even host a costume contest for some people who just wanted to have fun after stopping it have way through. So if you want to spend money at a place for bad service and rude staff then think again! This place is getting a bad rep fast! Have a nice day!
Beware! Happy Hour ripoff, misleading customers! Went here on a Friday night for drinks. This place has certainly changed from just a few years ago. Appeared to be a lot more mediocre and rundown. The outdoor seating area opens through glass doors from the lobby and is full of cigarette burned seats. We wanted to sit outside but there was a bunch of loud wedding revelers so we opted to come inside. The inside decor is nothing to write home about either, just a regular hotel bar.
They were supposed to have a Happy Hour on Friday nights from 6-10 PM, when most drinks are half-price. Trouble is you don't know which drinks and there's nothing to tell you, not the menu nor any card. They have signs everywhere saying cocktails are for 6 bucks during happy hour. When you look at the menu all of the cocktails are one price for 12 bucks. So we started ordering drinks and were happily drinking away. The big shocker comes when you get the check. Half of our drinks were full price and half were not! Totally ludicrous! Even with the half-price tequilas at 6 bucks they added on 0.75ç per drink. WTF??! I asked the waitress what the heck is going on with this and she said "oh, probably had an additional ingredient for which they charge 0.75ç for." Now that is one massive BS explanation if you ask me!
The food was terrible. We ordered some, Calamari appetizers and chips. The calamari was undercooked and tasted like fried rubber bands in off-tasting batter. In fact, it was so bad, it made my girlfriend sick.
All in all, would definitely not recommend this place to anyone for drinks and or food. There are a lot more places around in the area where you can have decently priced drinks and nice food!
I'm obviously an uncultured barbarian from the East, because I still think Glow is an amazing little lounge. I've never been there on a "normal" service night, mind you- but for two long weekends in the past three years myself and a number of my closest friends have taken over the Marina Del Ray Mariott and made Glow a sort of living room away from home- and for this function it is basically perfect. Open air, comfy-ish couches, fireplaces lit at night, soothing fountain, private-ish cabana, drinks at the bar just inside the lobby (with prices that make this Ohio resident blush a tiny bit). Ah! I love it!
Of course, we have never had to deal with or even think about a dress code, waiter service, etc. etc. Put our wet swimtrunked butts on the couch and put our flip-flopped feet right up on the tables? Sure, why not, HI HATERS
I would live at Glow if I could, sleeping under the stars on the couches. It has easy access to both the hotel lobby and the back/service entrance area for ease of shopping at the closest plazas. The open-air environment is not only dazzling (ah, that storied Los Angeles weather) but really helps keep even a rowdy crowd from seeming too big, too loud, or too frenetic for the surroundings.
Glow! Glow! AAAAAAH
Glow is a pricey, yet subtle escape in Marina del Rey for those looking to have a real conversation with others in an outdoor cabana, couch, or near a fireplace. It's located in the MDR Marriott and enforces a dress code (so no flip flops and board shorts).
Plan to spend hotel rates for valet (gulp) and $6 for a Fat Tire or Stone IPA draft beer. For a nicer cocktail, try the sweet Teddy with Tequila, St. Germain, Apple Juice, and Lemon Juice.
My best tip is to come for Happy Hour 5 - 7 p.m. Monday - Thursday or until 10:00 p.m. on Friday. That's right Happy Hour from 5 - 10 on Friday night when some cocktails are $6 and a few draft brews are $3.
For food, it's trendy bar fare like Truffle Chips, Ahi Tacos, Burgers (like the $14 Black & Blue), Sandwiches (Grilled Cheese please), etc. Try a Margharita Flatbread Pizza if you are in the mood. So far, my experience has been its better to just nibble here for drinks and then go elsewhere for dinner.
The service matches the vibe. It's professional. It's hip. It's warm if you're close to the fire. It's pretty much true that if you come with a good attitude, you'll find one at Glow. I especially liked that they stayed out of your way when it was clear you were happy and just enjoying the conversation with your guests. Bravo!
This may not be a glowing review of Glow, but I do recommend it if staying at the Marriott or nearby and you are looking for a relaxing upscale place for a few drinks.
When Glow first opened it was a great place to go Friday or Saturday night. Â A lot more upscale than the Whaler, Baja Cantina, or the Terrace. Â A much needed addition to MDR as it attracted people from other parts of LA. Â The outdoor patio looked amazing, and the seating with heat lamps/ fireplaces were great. Â The atmosphere had a lot of energy to it.
However, Â every time I've gone since they've opened my disappoint grows. Â The couches are old and gross to sit on now. Â It takes forever to get a drink on Saturday night, and the crowd... I'm tired of meeting middle-aged woman from the mid-west on weekend nights. Â Glow is no longer fun like when it first opened. Â
This place has been dimming for several years now. Â Your better off going to the Whaler, Hinanos, Cabo or Baja.
Sexy lounge!!!! Upon entrance, it's super dark and only lighted dimly, romantically...then it leads out the outdoor patio where it's loungy and I was immediately drawn to the fireplaces. I warmed up by the fire considering my earlier pool party and was pretty hot after 15 minutes.
I went on a Sunday evening, but I hear it's the place to be Fri/Sat. I will have to come back on a Thurs/Fri/Sat just to check out the vibes when it gets crowded.
This place is low key, sexy, classy and definitely sets the mood for a romantic interlude with someone special.
Total date place!
I LOVE the outdoor patio setting and fireplaces. Â Perfect for a date or a night out with friends. Â Drinks are good and the crowd is decent. Â I don't believe there is a cover. Â
There is a paid parking lot across the street that  is pretty convenient or you can valet at the hotel. Â
HUGE con for me was the music...they have a DJ, but the music is nothing that I enjoying listening to. Â If they would at least have a variety on genres, it would make it more appealing to me.
Yes, yes I know. I haven't been on top of my Yelp game and yes... I have been slapped on the wrist because of it. Now I was here celebrating a birthday a few weeks back.. So a bit of back drop...
It was a friend's bday, and she decided to have her soiree in the good ole MDR. Another friend of mine who was going asked if I was going to go. I said, "Ummmm maaayyyyyyyyybe..." and I guess she interpreted that as a "yes". So she was saying that it's going to be great to see me, woomptywoom yaddayadda. So in a way, I felt like I was obligated to go.
I end up parking across the Marriott, at the beach since I mean there's a lot RIGHT THERE. I park, mosey on across the street. Get to the lounge. Boom. I get in, and I kid you not... Everyone there was easily 40 and above. I'm not judging or anything, but for us 20-30 somethings, hanging out with cougars, pumas, girraffes, and the rest of the older animal kingdom... Not so fun. So im like whatever. I'm already here. Get to the bar and geta Johnny Walker Black. They only had ONE bar area. With ONE bartender... Uh ok...
So the friend in question gets there. I talk to her for like 10 minutes, and she bounces. Had another place to go to, so in my head I'm like uhhhh ok.... After my friend leaves, I decide to close out my tab and call it a night. Took me 30 minutes to close out my tab since they have ONE bar and ONE bartender... Get my check and it's$15 for ONE drink. Wow... Really? So, I'm not in the greatest of moods and I get back to my car. Parking ticket. $62. Winner!!!
In conclusion: 40 somethings trying to get their groove back, ONE bar, long lines for your drink, do not park at the beack unless you want your wallet to be raped. In the words of Chris Brown, "I'm done"
I went on a Monday night with my girlfriend. Â The place was pretty empty, but that was what we were looking for so it was nice. Â We got our own private couch/seating area. Â The waitress was very nice and helpful. Â Ordered a couple wines and two appetizers.
The hummus appetizer was very good. I only recently started eating hummus and this was probably the best i've had so far, taking into consideration I've only had hummus at a few places.
We also got the grilled shrimp appetizer. Â I would not recommend this. Â It comes chilled. Â We thought they forgot to heat it up or something but the waitress said thats the way it is supposed to be. Â I think it would taste much better hot the way grilled shrimp is supposed to be.
price wise everything is pretty expensive but thats what you would expect at a Marriott bar in Marina Del Rey. Â Luckily we had a groupon.
Also the valet parking is $12. Â Nice place if you have money to spend and want comfortable place to just hang out without too many people.
I rarely leave a place irate. Glow made it easy.
While it is pretty and some of their drinks are tasty, I'm not sure they're worth $12. And I realized later that they overcharged me $13 each for them, so, that was nice.
They brought out food items to the wrong people, too, even though they were ordered at completely different times.
We had 21 people for a party. If I had to guess, after drinks and appetizers, we must have spent over a thousand. I spent $70 myself. But I had to get all my own drinks at the bar because the server for our area never managed to make her way to me, ever. In fact, we all had a difficult time waving her down.
She also messed up the tabbing and my one friend got left with a large bill of other people's drinks after other friends had settled their own tabs and left. My friend insisted that the drink wasn't hers. So how does a server handle this $12 out of $1000+ disagreement with a few girls? She brings back a couple of giant muscly security guys to make sure we don't leave and then gets the bar manager. They tried to intimidate us into paying this erroneous bill.
Oh, did I mention that parking is also $12 each? So, they surely made a hundred plus just on that.
This place is pretentious, overpriced, and while it's atmosphere is mostly nice, it's just not that cool. I mean, this is Marina del Rey. Who do they really think they are? It's in a frickin' Marriot surrounded by old yuppy people chain restaurants.
There are about a billion places way more worth it in Los Angeles.
Don't threaten your patrons with hired muscle and hire some not terrible servers and maybe we'll talk, Glow. Ok? Once upon a time I liked you and you have so much potential.
With a name like "GLOW"-- you think unce unce unce, right? Â A little trance, a lot of bright lights, perhaps some glow sticks. Â Well, all I can say is that I don't ever remember going to a hotel bar and having a hootin' time.
That being said, GLOW, is an outdoor lounge at the Marriot, I believe. Â We strolled in there like a mad posse of ladies, only to be greeted by a cute doorman and a not so happening crowd within. Â Felt very much like an episode of the Twilight zone. Â
The crowd that night happened to be older, I say 50. Â And they looked like they were visiting LA from the mid west. Â Lost of glitter, big boobs and big hair. Â
I don't remember the music that night, but the drinks were strong. Â Definitely took the edge off. Â I probably wouldn't visit GLOW again, unless I was actually staying at the Marriot for a hoe-down convention.
I used to love Glow. So much in fact, that I reserved an area for a special occasion:
This is why I hate them now:
- they overcharged me by about $200, even completely ignoring what was written on the final receipt including tip!
- I specifically ordered specialty bottles (i.e. Patron), instead they give us the  most cheapest bottles of vodka (I was too tipsy at the time to care, but in hindsight this infuriates me as my guests clearly were unhappy with the offering)
- they were horribly slow at providing our table drinks and my friends and I were waiting forever
- i specifically asked for a reservation for 15, and they only had enough seating for 10
- when i make a reservation ahead of time, and speak with you about 3 times over the phone, get it the order right, dammit!!
WHAT THE F**** get your act together. I hate Glow.
Even though I have lived in LA for 19 years and on the west side, I still don't really know the Marina. So, when my friend had her birthday party there this weekend, I was excited to try a "new" place.
Parking: I paid 10.00 for parking at Mothers Beach (across the street). Some of the people parked on the street and walked a bit to Glow.
Dress: Didn't see any jeans, I was told "club wear" and wore black dress pants and black shirt.
Drinks: We had bottle service, but I wanted a beer, it took a bit to track down our server. Â I think I paid 6.50 for a pint of Sam Adams
I would say the best part was that there was room for our group to spread out. Â I wouldn't say this was the best place ever or the worse place. Â It worked for having 50 plus people enjoy our friends birthday.
Glow is the Marina del Rey Marriott's bar and outdoor lounge. This alone may not sound impressive for most folks. At least I know I've never been terribly impressed by any hotel lounge before. But as the sun starts to set and the outdoor fire pits light up, something magical begins to fill the air.
This review is helped along by the company I was staying with over the weekend. The most memorable night I had was our first night in the Marriott, spending the whole evening in Glow. Jumping around from group to group as people sat around in plush seats or perched in a sultan-like gazebo. Patio heaters kept the chill away and flames provided light. Red thin drapes that billowed in the breeze combined with lounge areas tucked away from view invited intimacy. I can imagine many kisses were stolen from unsuspecting targets in the middle of the night.
The drink prices are average, but take advantage of their happy hour pricing. I find them to be reasonable, and I'm from the Midwest.
Throughout the rest of the weekend Glow was always packed. Locals, private events and hotel guests could be seen anytime, day or night.
Glow a lounge you might see in a swank music video or a high class club scene from a glitzy Hollywood movie. It's hard not to get caught up in it all.
Glow is an open space courtyard with candles and flickering glowing lights, beautiful servers and a simply perfect extended happy hour venue after a stressful business day culminated at the Marina Del Rey.
My kindred brother (aka cousin) and I met after work hours. Â We enjoyed the youthful attention from beautiful waitresses and hot server boys. Â The wine flowed, the rib apps was succulent. Â Heated lamps and the atrium view looking up.
My cousin asked, " Who are you with? "
After a few glasses of red, I giggled, " My ex-crush ! Â We just closed a deal - he's on room-service and I'm partying with you! ... I just don't want to tempt nature!"
We laughed and talked of days gone by.
Kudos for the service with a smile and a glowing ambiance.
Strike a pose.
Let me start by saying, I am not a club goer. Even in the salad days of my youth, I was not a club goer. I'm more the flip flops and jeans type and I'd much rather spend my time at Henry's Hat playing board games, or at Birds chatting up the locals, than go to one of those places where all the beautiful people frolic. However, I have been known to girl myself up, strap on the heels and go out to the hottest restaurant or bar. I am quite aware of what's hot and not and Glow is not.
Let's first start with the positive. The ambiance at Glow is very cool. Twinkling lights, outdoor fireplaces, candles, cozy lounge areas. Loved it. My friend was celebrating her birthday, so she ordered a ton of appetizers, which, I have to say, were quite good. I loved the quesadillas. If I recall correctly, she had to plunk down $300 for the food and two bottles of Gloria Ferrer sparkling wine. Minimum. Not cheap.
Yeah. Not cheap. After the free drinks ran out, I went up to the bar and got myself another flute of sparkling wine. The cost? $14.50.
$14.50
Shit. I can buy an entire bottle of sparkling wine for $14.50.
Parking is valet only and costs $12. There is plenty of parking in the lot directly across the street. It has one of those park and pay kiosks, so make sure you have exact change. I believe it's $5, or maybe, $8. I can't remember. You can also use a credit card.
Although there is no dance floor, all they played was house music. I find this kind of funny because this is so not the house music scene.
I can only describe the people I observed at Glow that night as people who were all glammed up, but not  cool enough to get into the hot Hollywood clubs. Lots of wannabe reality TV types. Although there is a supposed dress code, two tourists dressed in mom and dad jeans and matching Land's End wind breakers managed to enjoy a drink. (Glow is in a hotel, after all, so I'm sure these were guests checking out the Saturday night scene.) My point in commenting about the attire of the people I observed is not about gleefully ripping these good folks apart. This is simply about about information. If you're the type of person who prefers going to the hottest clubs, bars, or restaurants, where the young Hollywood uber-fashionista types go, you need to know Glow is not one of those places. Â
Here's the thing. If you want to go somewhere and just chill and hang out with your friends and cozy up to a fire, you'd probably enjoy Glow. If you're interested in dancing and mixing it up and meeting people, this is not the place. And if you're from the Valley, like I am, it's not really worth the drive. Go to Firefly instead. Same type of thing and much closer to home.
But hey, this is just one girl's opinion.
This outdoor lounge would be perfecto if... the music wasn't so annoying!!
I Â lived down the street from here for 3 years before I discovered it. A friend invited me one day, and when I walked out to the patio I was amaaazed! Lots of couches, beautiful fireplaces, a gazebo - so cool! The drinks are good, the food is OK, but such a great place to hang in the warm, summer months!
Unfortunately, I have NEVER been there when there wasn't blaringly loud and bassy electronic music playing. So much so that I have to leave because my head is pounding!!
Whenever I am planning a group event or a birthday, I always think of this place first, but ultimately decide against it because of the music,
In addtion - DO NOT valet park!! It costs an arm and a leg. Park in the lot across the street instead for about $3.
What can I saw about Glow?
It's a cool space. It looks nice. The vibe is very laid back. Good looking place and people. The parking at Glow is pretty standard. I usually park across the street because the valet is pretty pricey. That being said, I prefer to start my night here...not end it. The place closes down at about midnight. The drinks are pricey. However, it is a hotel bar...so not too far off from the normal LA prices.
They do have a DJ....however, you won't be doing much dancing here. It's not that kind of place. I'd reccommend it more for an after work drink with co workers or a place to go with friends if you want to have a meal with some drinks.
Th food is good. Standard menu. Overall, glow is pretty and just ok.
Wait, this a hotel bar? Damn, I almost wish I wasn't an LA native so that I could stay in this hotel and hang at Glow all weekend without feeling like a loser. ;)
Very cool outdoor lounge, great lighting, cute little fireplaces with seating all around, heat lamps all over so the ladies don't get too cold, and a dj spinning some tunes (who also listens to requests), attentive staff and a lot of space.
We've been there a bunch of times and I always have a great night.
If I was a single lady...I would definitely use the advantageous lighting at Glow on a date. I just can't help but notice how good everyone looks with a little soft lighting. :)
Before I start out, here's my disclaimer: Â different folks for different strokes. Â
If you're into the whole outdoorsy/ firepit/ swank music/ LA scene .......then perhaps this is your place. Â It's not my type of atmosphere, but the g/f insisted we go here for an after-wedding after party.
The service was pretty good -- I thought the waitresses were quite attentive. Â
The food -- your typical tasty bar food (chicken fingers, french fries, et al) -- were all quite tasty. Â
Drinks -- pretty standard at LA prices ($7 bucks I think for a Bud Light is way pushin it.........but then again, welcome to LA!)
The seating was quite comfortable -- big comfy chairs/couches -- swank lines -- little individual nooks where you could find some privacy to chat it up with some newly befriended hottie or simply to snuggle with your girl/guy. Â
For what it is, it's a nice place. Â You have to be into the whole what-I-call "LA vibe." Â Not terribly pretentious, but, its definitely a place where a Yelper can go to be social, see and be seen. Â Not my preferred method for social interaction, but, possibly is for many Yelpers out there. Â Have fun!
Came here on a Thursday night around 11:30pm, and they said they stopped serving drinks at 11... Â
There were also only two other groups here, both were a bit older than us. Â I guess I should have read the reviews first about that.
I'll probably try coming again on a Friday or Saturday night. Â In 15 years.
More than just your average fish n' chips
Actually there wasn't any fish, but there definitely were chips and they were delish! Â Truffle potato chips with grated parmesan cheese to be exact. Â Don't you forget the hummus trio with pita, whole wheat pita. Â Holla at your girl. Â Signing off, Erica
Saturday night, cold and shivering I walked into, or outside to the Glow Bar. My friend was throwing his big 3 0hhh birthday, so he decided to reserve two sections and put all the orders on his tab. Wow. Happy birthday to us.
PROS: Love the ambient lights, snobby people atmosphere. Love the outfits people come in (I always wanted to go into fashion)
CONS: Â A line that takes forever. Are you kidding me? This ain't a club. Goodness. The valet deal is kind of annoying, so I just parked elsewhere (read below). The snobby people can be annoying at times. The waitress didn't get to my tea (I waited 45 min). Yea, I know, getting tea at a bar? haha. I was asking for it.
TIPS: I parked in the 2 hours parking lot behind the Marriot. Technically, I wasn't supposed to park there, but I did. That's your risk if you park there. I like to live on the edge.
If you're a female. Don't walk to the entrance of the hotel coming from the 2 hours parking lot by yourself. I did, and nothing happened to me... but COULD HAVE!
Glow is a gorgeous Vegas style outdoor lounge. After a few drinks I was ready to hit the tables and strip clubs...then I remembered we were still in LA. Damn it.
What you should know:
*Park on the street behind the Marriott for free.
*There is only one small bar in Glow. But there is also a bar inside the regular Marriott lobby (next to Glow's entrance.)
*Girls - Bring a jacket. It did get a little cold if you're not sitting by a fireplace or liquored up.
*Boys - Bring your $$ to buy drinks for the girls. Drinks were about $9 a pop. Bottle service was $250.
Good job Glow. You were a nice LA surprise.
The food here stinks...I ordered the homemade crab cake sliders....three of them came with a paltry portion of fries (or was it the savaging friends who grabbed some before I'd got the tomato sauce on them?!)
Anyway, the crab cakes weren't bad, but the buns were horrid. The top buns were toasted dry and hard, whilst the bottom buns were soggy and had to be scrapped off of the plate. What a poor effort. I've never had anything like that. In fact just thinking about it i should've sent it back.
I asked the waitress/cocktail lady which was better these crab cakes of the quesadillas. But she got it so wrong...or rather the kitchen did. Yuck. But of course I ate it all. Hic! :)
I hit up Glow with some friends for their friend's bday party. Â Thanks to the yelpers before me and their parking recommendation - I saved some $$ not dealing with the valet by just parking across the street for $3.
We arrived around 9:30 and the crowd was pretty sparse, but a good mix of mid 20 year olds all the way up to the early 50's crew. Â Male to Female ratio was excellent as well.
The positives is that the place is super laid back, almost like an after-hours type of place. Â Music is a good level, you can talk to others without having a cracked voice the next day.
Expect to pay $11-13 per drink. Â Luckily I was the DD, so my initial drink was chased by water the rest of the night.
Maybe it was just the night, but the ladies at this place were very aggressive. Â More so than the San Diego crowd. Â Not complaining one bit...just speaking from my experience that night.
I'd go back again.
I liked the fact that it was a multicultural crowd that came out on a Friday night. Another bonus was that the valet guy tipped us into the 3 dollar parking across the street :)
When we got waters at the bar, they tasted like unfiltered tap water. But as for the decor, I prefer the more upscale Viceroy hotel outdoor area.
Imagine... an outdoor bar where you can actually socialize without having to raise your voice to an unnatural decibel levels.
Envision... flickering fire, glittering glass, glistening water and plenty of comfy places to sit without having to buy a bottle.
Glow is cute 'n cozy, give it a go kids.
Well, I was glad to even be invited out so I was really anxious to go to "Glow". It was a beautiful lounge. If I had a million dollars I would build something similar in my backyard. The cost of the outing was average lounge pricing. There were fireplaces and heat lamps all over to fight the brisk night. I could see coming to this open air lounge in girly clothes and not spend my night complaining of the cold. I went on a Friday night pretty early, around 10. It wasn't crowded at all and there were a comfortable number of people. I thought the music was a smidge loud. But I accounted for the fact that it was an open air lounge so the sound has to be upped to compensate.
Good times, Good strong drinks and the discounted valet parking is a plus.
This place is beautiful. Â Aptly named GLOW, because it really does glow. Â The candles, torches, and fireplaces give the place a warm and fuzzy feeling. Â I thought I would freeze out there the other night in the winter cold, but surprisingly I felt warm, almost hot when sitting next to one of the fireplaces (just the way I like it) We sat next to this SUPER drunk girl who was giving this older guy a lapdance WTF? I guess she must of had too many! I really hope she wasn't driving. Â
The drinks are kinda pricey ($12-$14-ouch!), but the winelist was impressive, luckily me and the homegirl trickled in the place with a buzz, so we only ordered appetizers ($10-12).
The DJ wasn't jammin' like he should have been, but that's ok because there wasn't a dancefloor anyway--pity!
Trendy lounge meets the Marina. Â Glow is a very hip place especially when you consider that it is nestled in a boxy Marriott tower. Â The allure of glow is the atmosphere; large comfortable couches, dark yet intimate "glowey" orange lighting, and elegant fire pits and fountains. Â You forget you are in the Marriott right across the street from a dreary Best Western. Â You may as well be at some swanky South Beach lounge. Â The atmosphere outdoors and even inside the Marriott lobby are superb and the doorman service is classy without being obnoxious.
I felt the service was very well done. Â The many security guards were polite and helpful to my group, the doorman held the door open for us and greeted my group with a "good evening sirs." Â We are 20 something LMU kids but were treated well.
The DJ was spinning tribal/techno beats that kept the atmosphere lively but didn't drown out conversation. Â The crowd was mostly middle-aged but there were plenty of young 20 and 30 somethings about. Â You'll also find a number of "visitors" looking to make the most of their short business trip in Los Angeles, if you catch my drift....
Beer cost about $5.50 for an import, not bad.
The group I was with had a great time. Â Park on Washington Blvd, plenty of nearby spaces.
