I've been itching to try the only Mongolian BBQ place I've heard of in CT, and I finally talked my husband into going with me a couple weeks ago.  The service was pretty good and the restaurant was bigger than I expected.  The salad bar was decent and I liked that they offered a dessert bar as well.  I've been to several Mongolian BBQ places in different states, and I personally prefer ones where you have the option to have your food brought back to your table rather than having to stand there and wait for it.  However, I can see why those who have never been to one before might want to stand and enjoy the show.

The only real negative that sticks out for me is that the meat had been frozen.  If it were fresh, the food would be great.

The drink prices are spectacular, though.  $2/bottle for Long Trail?  I'd come here just for that!

My five favorite things about Gobi Mongolian Grill:

    1. Options: Vegetarian, Vegan, Pescatarian, Meat Lover, Omnivore, Flavor Lover, Control Freak- they've got you covered.

    2. It's a deliciously fun adventure.

    3. Excellent for groups.

    4. Happy hour and miscellaneous drink specials, and amazing prices in general.

    5. Ice cream bar- scoop your own, not soft serve!

So, if you've never been to a Mongolian style grill, here's how it works. The main attraction is the giant make-your-own bowl buffet. The price includes an unlimited salad and fruit bar, as well as dessert bar. To make your own bowl, you select from an unreasonably extensive buffet of raw veggies(asparagus and shiitakes? yup!), noodles(at least six noodle choices), red meat, chicken, seafood, and sauces and spices. I will tell you now, put the sauce IN THE TINY CUP, and not over your food, because when you get there you are going to be excited and forget to read the sign that says that. There are tons of sauce selections, and just as many dry and fresh herbs and spices. You  then bring the plate of raw ingredients up to the massive round grill where a master griller will cook up your plate of goodies. If you are vegetarian, they have a special section for you, with dividers, just let them know when you hand them your plate. The default cook time leaves veggies just a bit crunchy on the inside, which I enjoyed thoroughly, but if you like them tender, simply ask for some extra grill time. Once it's done, they hand you your plate of amazingness and you sprint back to your seat to revel in your culinary prowess (sprinting optional).

You can also ask your server for white rice, which is free, or brown rice or pitas which are like an extra dollar I think.

The one thing I will change on my next visit is to make a teeny tiny plate of food at first so I can go back a couple times and make different flavor combos with the sauces so I can try more than one in a single visit.

And don't pass up the make your own ice cream bar, no matter how full you are. Just don't. Even if you make yourself a single delightful bite. You can't pass it up.

As far as leftovers, they have a price by weight that is very reasonable. Or leave it and run.

This place is a must try the next time you are in the mood for something fun and delicious!

I waited on doing this review because I wanted to give it another go in a different situation. I was not disappointed. First visit was with 6 of my friends for "girls night out" and the server was admittedly a bit overwhelmed. The grill chef also dropped my plate just as he finished in on my first go around causing me to have to wait in line again. I didn't mind much, I went back with my salad and enjoyed a good portion of a Gobi Punch Bowl (though big, $15 seemed a little exorbitant - very strong, however!) The second visit was just for two, and the server who seated us was extremely well-spoken and pleasant, explaining the whole situation to my date who had never been there before. Very charming. Also, no dropping things this time at the grill. :)

It's pretty much an "All You Can Eat, Choose Your Own Hibachi Adventure". Regular salad bar followed by a dessert bar on the left. Middle is all of your veggies and your noodle choices. Right hand side is your meats and seafood (grab a raw egg and they'll scramble it in there for you, too!) as well as all your sauce choices (there are lots!) and some other seasonings and such at the end of the line.

Start with some salad, if you'd like. Or go straight to the noodly goodness. There are some suggestions on the back wall, or pick your pleasure. After you pile up your plate, you're directed to stand at the round counter surrounding the big flat grill at the number you're given, and the chefs go to work on your concoction. Comes off the grill piping hot and smells delicious. When you're done there, don't forget to go get yourself some fruit, pudding, or ice cream with all the toppings.

Lunch: $8.95 for adults, $6.95 for kids 7-11, $4.95 for kids 3-6, kids under 2 are free. Dinner: $15.95/$11.95/$7.95/free. Dinner prices all day Sunday and major holidays. As of this review, $13 dinner special is running for the summer (limited time). All meals come with white rice (but you need to ask for it if you want it, it seems) or you can add $1 for fried rice, brown rice or tortilla wraps (you could totally do some ghetto fajitas here.)

If you're going for dinner, go a little bit earlier than you'd think to, because the line can get rather ridiculous. Also be aware that they close Monday - Thursday from 3PM - 4:30PM, I assume to switch over to dinner? Not exactly sure why only those days, maybe they have more help on the weekends to compensate for larger crowds?

Last tip if you've made it this far!: Double up on the sauces if you want a good kick of flavor!

Took a huge group of family members there on a weeknight. The food was excellent and very fresh. It just seemed a little expensive. Not the kind of place most of us non-wealth people can go to all the time, but it was great.

    Great experience!

We went for lunch after my little sis recommended we give it a try. It was fairly quiet at lunch, which gave me plenty of time to peruse the selections without getting in anyone's way. They had a full salad bar, which looked lovely--I skipped right to the main attraction, however. A create-your-own noodle bar with tons of choices had my attention! Lo mein, udon and rice noodles to start, then add your own veggies and choose your proteins (chicken, beef, bacon, shrimp, sausage, etc.). Then, choose your sauce from at least 8 choices, or if you're indecisive like me, mix your favorites. Then bring it all to the large circular grill and the magic begins.

This place is great for anyone who is picky and those who have bottomless stomachs. For $9 for lunch and $16 for dinner, you can go up as many times as you want and with endless combinations, why wouldn't you? If you have any room after that, there is an ice cream bar to top off your meal. Oh and use the Yelp check in--you get a free beer! (whaaat?!)

Service was friendly, food is what you make of it (and how much you can handle!) and the decor is clean and bright--awesome place!

A very different dinning experience here. Create your own meal concept with loads of things to choose from. The very first time I was here had a tough time with the staff. The waitress could not seat us quickly and she wasn't fluent in English.

It's basically a buffet, you have a salad bar. The interesting thing is about the entree. This part of the counter/station has noodles, veggies and meat and loads of sauces.

You pick a plate add all that you like from this counter, including the sauces. Then line up to get the whole stuff grilled. They have a huge round flat iron griddle on which your stuff goes on for grilling for couple of minutes.

They also have ice cream counter with many sauces n topping too.

Seating space is good for groups too. This resto is in a plaza, so parking is not a problem.

My husband too his colleagues for team lunch out here and everyone enjoyed it :)

Tip - check in on yelp to get a free drink.

Came here for a birthday dinner. The grilling circle where you bring your customized dish and watch the chefs cook in front of you was interesting and entertaining at the least. Great selection of ingredients for your own dish. Although, I wish they had more choices for the base.

My first plate was filled with mostly meat and seafood on top of the odon noodles. The meat was ok , a little bland. Some of the pieces still tasted frozen. The seafood and udon noodles were good together; noodles were fresh and cooked al dente. I really liked the Korean BBQ sauce, a bit spicy but it had a nice tang to it.

Second dish, I filled with veggies on lo mein. Veggies were good, lo mein was alright but I prefer the udon noodles. Garlic sauce was a mistake; too sweet and spicy. A bit less might have been a better amount. No more than half the sauce bowl I'd say.

I started to get full right around the here and I still wanted dessert. I walked over to the dessert stand and they all looked unappetizing. Not fresh and the ice cream toppings looked dry and old. I tried their vanilla and cake batter ice cream; just your typical buffet ice cream in a freezer.

Finally, we told them it was my birthday and they came out about 10 min later with the staff singing to to me and a slice of cheesecake for me. It was really awkward and some of the staff looked uncomfortable with the whole thing. Afterwards, they left and let me enjoy the cheesecake which was yummy.

The experience could have been better if I had not gotten sick on the way home from eating so much. (Tip: they squirt A LOT of oil on your food when grilling so you may want to tell them to take it easy on the oil) Just because it's an all you can eat, does not mean you have to stuff yourself to the point of hurling your brains out. Lesson learned. Other than that, was quite the experience.

I REALLY enjoyed Gobi while I was at the restaurant. I remember thinking: "Wow, I can't wait to come back!" The food was excellent and watching the grillers work was really cool too.

The reason for my low star review is because I ended up getting sick after eating here. Too bad.

Last year I loved this place. I couldn't wait to come back. Perhaps I got here too early (right after opening) or I chose the wrong sauce (Gung Pao) but the food was tasteless. It needed a ton of salt and soy sauce and, of course, that didn't do much for it. I won't go back but I wouldn't tell you not to try. Just insist on using more than one cup of sauce and go a bit later than I did.

Dined here tonight. First time here. Lots of selections to choose. All items on buffet look fresh. Meats are average grade. Food is what you make it. You choose your own stuff. Chefs just cook what you bring them. Note of caution... if you are allergic to something, let chefs know before you give them your plate to cook. Sometimes items get mixed a little. I found a lone rigatoni noodle on my plate once cooked. I did notice my zucchini touched someones shrimp.

For those of you who have never been to a Mongolian grill, it is sort of like a backwards buffet... you choose your raw ingredients (meats, veggies, etc.), sauces, then the chef stir fries your choices on a round grill.

The environment is unassuming, and the staff is pleasant.  The food is well prepared; if you don't like the ingredients, that's your fault.  I must admit to have been a tad heavy handed on the garlic oil, but it was all good.

Service is good.  The wait staff was attentive at all times.

The choice of raw ingredients was expansive.  There were perhaps twenty different types of protein, and at least a dozen different sauces.

All in all, this is a great place to get a lot of food done well.  I would go back again in a heartbeat.

    Decor - Relatively clean
    Service - Not bad
Food - As good as you make it. Don't skimp on the sauces because that's where all the flavor comes from. The beef slices weren't great quality - was rough. Went for seafood and vegetables.

Tips - Do NOT go during peak hours. You will regret standing in line for 15+ minutes to be ushered into the grill circle. Also take multiple plates if you can handle it without dropping stuff.

What a pleasant surprise Gobi Mongolian Grill is! At first I was a bit unsure how happy I would be with the set up. As I have mentioned in earlier reviews any relative of the salad bar generally disgusts me. Everything here however looked clean and fresh. The staff could be seen changing the food out frequently and ensuring that the surrounding area looked pristine so I was not bothered. I had a small salad then proceeded to assemble my entree. There are lots of vegetables and sauces to choose from. The meats are all freeze-dried discs that look like potato chips so there is no risk of cross contamination. There are several noodles to choose from. If you prefer rice you can request it from your waiter. Once you've assembled your meal you are assigned a number so that your meal can be prepared by four chefs on a rotating wok while you wait. My food was delicious! I do wish the lines moved a bit faster and that there was a way to sample the various sauces but overall a good experience.

Tried this for the first time last night because we had a Groupon. Nice atmosphere. Easy to navigate. The hostess explained how things work and was very pleasant.

Very good selection. Salad bar is nice. Good fruit selection and self serve hard ice cream. Lots of meat and vegetable options for the grill. Suggestions on the wall of how to make Asian dishes that you have heard of. Food is hot and fresh. Will definitely visit again.

The location is set back into the corner of a strip mall. Look for the Outback Steak House.

$2 beers and an all you can eat buffet? Nice! The food was all fresh. We ate here about an hour before closing and 15 minutes before they shut the doors they were still stocking fresh veggies.

Salad bar's on the left followed by the ice cream bar. The middle bank has a slew of veggies: snow peas, carrots, bok choy, onions, et cetera. The right bank has all kinds of meat: chicken slices, beef, lamb, shrimp, mussles, clams. Then after the meat you'll find the sauces bank. Grab your goods, a sauce or mix of them and move onto the center bar. I really like the sesame ginger with a little chili oil, but I only tried three of the sauces and all were really good so go wild.

Prices are right for an all you can eat joint. Service was friendly all around.

We have enjoyed eating at Mongolian Grill restaurants before- there is a national chain called Fire and Ice, and we had a lunch at their Cambridge, MA and Nanuet, NY (since closed)  locations. We were psyched to see a similar restaurant open up close to us, and we had lunch there today.

Lunch is $9 and dinner is $15 for essentially the same thing. The concept is super cool -you go to a salad bar and fill your plate with an assortment of pastas/noodles, dozens of fresh veggies, and a slew of meat or seafood choices. You pick one of a dozen sauces or a combination of sauces. You bring your stuff to a gigantic circular grille and cooks stir fry your creations on the sizzling grill with mixing utensils that look like pool cues. Then they scoop the hot steaming dish onto your plate. It's really quite a show and I bet it will delight the kiddies in your party.

I stuck to the shrimp and squid with noodles, veggies and Szechwan and Curry sauces. I liked being able to pick and choose what went on my plate- no carrots, no celery, no filler, just things I really liked

Toss in a very nice salad bar. Toss in an ice cream and topping bar. Walk away stuffed with a pretty decent meal. Yes, I'm a fan

A very happy to see a Mongolian restaurant @CT...I have been searching for a Mongolian restaurant after we have moved from Denver, CO to Manchester, CT...Myself and my wife loved this place and was really thrilled to give the bowl to the chef for "well done"..they have done their job "well done" and we loved the food which we have prepared literally :)...

Another good things I have noticed in this place is the ambience in the restaurant, the way restaurant employees behaving to us and moreover for food lovers it's the place to dine and wine with lots of food with buffet lunch/dinner. I am sure we are going to be frequent visitors of this place going forward and 100% sure I will be recommending this place to all my friends...

    Cheers,

Its a fun thing to try, but the food is only marginally better than just ordering it yourself. The fun is more picking out all the items you want, but be careful putting too much spiceyness. You could get hurt lol. They major problem is the when it is busy there, the lines are very ackward. I don't think they have the food/cooking area set up property. People seem rushed by others and can't enjoy the process. Also the recipe signs where you can follow specific food recipes is in the absolute worst location. Your half way done when you see it, if you look down the hall.

My brother-in-law took us here for lunch. You get unlimited salad, unlimited trips to the grill, and unlimited desserts. Many choices-all kinds of asian veggies, different kins of noodles, and different proteins (chicken, pork, shrimp, etc.) And sauces. You assemble your plate, then bring it to the grill and they cook it for you. Want more? Go back. The desserts included ice cream (about 6 flavors, including green tea), sundae fixins and fresh fruit. Everything very fresh, and it was delicious. Recommend trying it.

I had only recently spotted this restaurant and was determined to give it a try. I met a friend for lunch and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was obviously fresh and the concept (picking out your own ingredients) was fun and proved to be tasty. Overall, excellent food and a good value. We'll be back!

We dined at Gobi this past Friday using a Groupon. The restaurant was not very busy early (5:30PM), but was bustling on our departure some 90 minutes later. We were welcomed on entering and seated in a booth. One of servers asked if  we had dined there before. I told him no, but we were familiar with the concept having dined numerous times at buffets with Mongolian grills in Las Vegas. He was apparently programmed because he ran through the entire spiel as if we were first timers. After finishing, he turned us over to a second server who had a list of the night's special drinks.

I was impressed by the variety and freshness of the salad ingredients and vegetables; less so with the frozen proteins which on this evening included very thinly sliced flank steak, lamb, pork, chicken scallops, tofu, shrimp, squid, clams, tilapia and imitation crab meat. There were numerous house made sauces so all but the pickiest should be able to find one to his or her liking. White rice is brought to the table on request and brown rice and fried rice are available for an up charge.  The buffet included 3 types of noodles (lo mein, rice, rigatoni and udon). Dessert was pretty much limited to fruit or several varieties of cheap ice cream.

My wife and I each started of with a small salad that we assembled from a variety of fresh ingredients which I augmented from the vegetable section. I decided going in that I would concentrate on sampling so my 3 plates probably aggregated one plate for a lumberjack.

I tried a few varieties of meat and shrimp on the first pass and on subsequent passes included shrimp only or shrimp and scallops. I sampled and enjoyed a total of 5 different sauces in various combinations; Korean, garlic, sesame, yellow curry and Szechuan. The yellow curry was listed as being 1 chili level, but packed more heat than the Szechuan sauce which I assume is an anomaly. '

Each of the chefs did an excellent job of not overcooking the food so vegetables remained slightly crunch as did the shrimp.

Both my wife and I finished off the meal with a scoop of very lightly flavored coconut ice cream topped with fresh blackberries, chunks of kiwi and a whipped topping.

Overall, the food was better than I expected and I would not hesitate to return if I find another deal.

I stopped in recently with some friends after hearing about a new Mongolian Grill opening pretty close to my house.  The basic concept is $16 for all you can eat.  There are three small buffets (One for salad if you'd like one before or to accompany your meal, one for vegetables and pastas and one for proteins).  You chose what you'd like to eat, pile it on a plate and bring it to a central grill to have the people there cook for you.  When everything is finished, the wait staff will bring you some complimentary white rice, or for a small fee you can choose brown rice or another side.

The food options are a nice variation and good quality.  It could have a few more vegetable choices, maybe but what is available is tasty.  The sauces skew a little bit spicier than the legend near them might suggest so if you're not prepared for a hot dish, be careful what you choose.  I saw another review mention that there's no allergens mentioned on the sauce selection, which is true.  They do, however, ask in several places that you speak with the chefs about any food allergy or concerns and the people who were working during our visit were very helpful and informed about what was in each of the sauces.

The restaurant is spacious and the eating area is nicely decorated with a very simple, warm approach.  The staff was welcoming, very polite and attentive to our experience.

It doesn't appear that they have any beer on tap - they sell by the bottle only - but are very reasonably priced for going out to a restaurant.  All in all, Gobi is a great addition to the Queen Street area and I would recommend it to anyone who already enjoys Mongolian Grills or is looking for something new to try.  If you're in central CT, definitely check it out at least once.

You have full control of what you eat when you come here.  Tons of veggies, meats/fish, and sauces to pick from.  Before I first went I read the reviews to see how it worked, but I envisioned it much differently then it actually was. I tell people think of it like a buffet meets hibachi.
The inside is MUCH nicer than the old buffet 2000 used to be.  Food is great since it's cooked up right in front of you, so it's not like the luke-warm food you can find at a buffet.
I have no idea what they have in the little squeeze bottles they spray on your food, but I figure one of them is oil, which they douse your food in.  I'll have to ask if they can take it easy with the oil next time.
Just a note - the hostess that sits you down needs to be a little more pleasant. Smile!

We went here last night for my moms 70th birthday and what a very nice experience we had. All of us enjoyed our meals and it was nice to be able to choose all the different vegetables and meat/seafood you would like to have in your meal. There was more of a selection than what is on their website, so we were very impressed with everthing including how attentive and nice the waitstaff is. We will definately be returning

have you eaten at a mongolian grill before? its pretty neat really, sort of like a salad bar with meat veggies and noodles in the back and a big selection of sauces - you pick out what you want and then bring it to the grill guys and they cook it right in front of you. $16 a head all you can eat was pretty reasonable for dinner. they also have a salad bar and dessert bar that were both pretty good. cheap beers ($2) and with a yelp check in i got a free beer!! woo hoo .. i like this place and will be coming back.

as a vegetarian they had a decent selection of veggies, noodles, etc and tofu - before they grilled it they took extra care to clean the cooktop of the grill (may not be 100% perfect if you are super-vegan) .. i tasted no meatiness or funky animal flavors.

located in a strip mall with TJ Maxx, no sign out by the street made it hard to find and the parking lot was packed. Pretty easy to get to on Queen St, not too far off 84. The restaurant is nice inside, sort of feels like a Denny's with asian decor.. not super fancy but it is really a buffet - people constantly going back and forth.

Food is good.. Meats a little wierd.. Round frozen sliced disks of meat, chicken, Cooks up ok. Lots of fresh vegetables to choose from. Cooked fresh right in front of you, better than some sketchy Chinese buffet with mystery food that's been around for who knows how long! Good place to go. Been twice already!

This place is different than your average buffet in that you take a bunch of raw stuff, then have the chef grill it.

A few things about the place I did not like were:
    (1) the spatulas used to grab food had a tendency to fall into the food (after people's hands touched them.)  Germ city.
    (2) there was a pad thai sauce (which I assume has peanuts in it) and a girl asked a waitress if any of the sauces had peanuts in it and she replied that none of them had peanuts.  To be safe, I warned the girl that the Pad Thai might* have peanuts in it and to avoid that one.
    (3) We ordered two drinks and quite frankly, mine tasted like cleaner.  I had one sip and that was it.  Wasted $9.00.

    Things I liked:
    (1) The array of foods was awesome!! I really enjoyed the ample supply of meats, fish and vegetables.
    (2) The choice of sauces was great too and I mixed together the Pad Thai and Spicy Garlic......AMAZING!
    (3) Unlimited.

This place is great, it's alittle hard to find because its in a strip mall and the sign is small but I'm glad I did find it.
I found the servers to be helpful seeing as though it can be overwhelming to figure out what to do with all the different choices of sauces, veggies and meats.

I admit I am super lame because I skipped homework to write this review.  I tried this place out with my sister on Monday and was so impressed with the concept. I've never been to a Mongolian Grill before but it reminds me of a meal we have on a skillet at home. It incorporated the same concept, tons of veggies and various types of meat. The only major difference was it wasn't cooked in butter. After reading the reviews I bookmarked the place and was actually impressed. I'll definitely be back but I might have to ask Shao the owner if I can bring my own sauce. I'll sign of waiver if I have to ;)

The concept is to fill your plate with all the ingredients you want and then take it to the cooking station.  I confirmed it you can make as many return trips as you would like.  Frankly I couldn't handle more than two trips and on my second trip my dish was full of nothing but veggies.

I was impressed with the variety and freshness of the vegetables.  I'm a huge veggie snob, I cringe at the sight of dried veggies.  They had two types of mushrooms out, different types of peppers, pricier vegetables such as snow peas and asparagus. You can easily get your money's worth if you load up on the snow peas and asparagus (my favorite veggies).  Seriously I would definitely return simply because of the freshness of the veggies. For Yelpers who are a fan of Pick and Mix, this place is similar but with MORE VEGGIES!

The meat selection was okay. Beef flank, goat, shrimp, scallops, salmon and trout. The protein was frozen chips, I guess that's to keep cost down? I would like to see tofu added to the selection in the future.

They had three types of noodles to pick from, yellow lomein noodles, udon and starch noodles. The udon was my favorite because it absorbed the most flavor.

The sauce selection was pretty impressive but I can see how it can be overwhelming for someone who is not familiar with how the flavors taste. One recommendation I have is that the staff put indicators of their most popular sauce to facilitate the lost and confused in their selection. I'm sure a little star over the tags/ labels will help facilitate an enjoyable experience for those new to Asian cuisine.  My favorite sauce was the garlic sauce. For one of my dishes I mixed Korean BBQ and a bunch of other things, that concoction was not my best.

I didn't touch the ice cream bar. Nothing was calling out my name. Would love to see red bean ice cream in the freezer. Since I'm in a "request mode" a chocolate fountain would be nice if its within the budget for the next quarter :)

Shao works/ helps on the floor and I was impressed with his attentiveness. I was dressed like a total slob yet the service was top notch.

Overall for the price I would definitely return. Innovative concept, fresh veggies and friendly staff. Don't make the same mistake I did, I had a snack before coming so I didn't get to try out as many sauces as I would have liked to.

Gobi Mongolian grill, an enjoyable experience. I  do not want to deter by any means fellow yelpers out there from enjoying this place.. As I said previously this was an enjoyable experience. My three star rating may be leaning toward the fourth star however there are several things concerning me with this establishment.
          The good:
Ample fresh choices of any type of meat or seafood you desire, options ranging from chicken to fish to squid, beef, mussels, shrimp, pork, and alot more.
Veggies as far as the eye could see even some not so ordinary Asian types that really bring it all together.
A free beer or sake with check in... Seriously for this alone I will be back, surprisingly they had a pretty large selection of brews, even festive fall selections ;$2 October fest or pumpkin ale.
               For dessert delicious fresh fruits
     The Bad:
It was all sort of confusing, you walk in the front of place and greeted by a friendly hostess( which is nice) then you are seated. I was somewhat thinking this was like a normal reastaurant, however it's more of an all you can eat buffet type place.
The staff were friendly but really difficult to understand even with my extensive knowledge of hand gestures, they give you a menu but once you order a drink they take it away from you. It all happened so quick and then you are pushed towards the food  bar  area ...there are three different "bars" one with meats, one with veggies, and a dessert bar.
I saw signs that kinda break it down for you into a three step process..  so I kinda just piled all sorts of stuff on a plate and brought it to the grill guy. He cooked it and I ate and that's kinda how it went for a few more trips I'm assuming I got it right because no one stopped me.
My final gripe with this place is the lack of rice....they have every kind of noodle ever invented but no rice. Personally I'm just not a noodle guy. They do offer rice dishes as sides but that's not the point I would just prefer it to be available where everything else is.....
All in all I did like this place with a few adjustments this restaurant could b top notch it's a fun different way to eat and I approve!

Just make sure you understand the concept, and you're set, because the idea here is a little offbeat (at least for me - I was new to this concept).

At first you're seated, and your drink order is taken. There really is no menu, because you pick your ingredients from a raw bar (as much as you can fit on a plate) then take it to the middle of the restaurant where a chef will cook your ingredients on a circular grill. It's not clear whether it's permissible to repeat this, or if the "all you can eat" concept only applies to the salad/dessert bar portion of the meal.

The raw bar consists of meat, noodles, rice, veggies galore, distinctive sauces and the like. Fill your plate and have everything cooked.

Word to the wise for vegetarians (or any food allergy sufferers): The chef(s) at the grill cook many meals at once, and don't use separate utensils for each meal. If you require this, be firm and say so!.

The salad bar is also nice and clean with a reasonably good selection of stuff - and some unusual dressings which are nice, but the dessert bar is a little creepy. It consists of a horizontal sliding freezer where patrons can self-scoop sundae shop-style ice cream. It sounds nice, until you see a 10 year old, unsupervised girl scooping ice cream onto her plate while her long hair is drooping into the other containers the whole time. This concept will probably change, I'm guessing.

The food was good and it was pretty busy there tonight so service was a bit slow. We had to track down our waitress in order to order our beverages (which by the way, free beer or sake if you check-in via yelp..yes please!).
The first plate of attack was a few pieces of meat then a bunch of veggies along with the Korean bbq sauce and udon noodles. Then I decided to go salad bar which offered a decent selection but then I realized I wanted more noodles. So I went with a ton of seafood, veggies, udon noodles and a highly recommended red curry sauce.
Overall, i thought the restaurant was good but overpriced for dinner/weekends at 17 bucks a person. Of course we did have a 25% off coupon...because I do love me some coupons.  For a table of 7 adults, we ate for about $100 and our cute but screeching 1 year old and antsy 2.5 year old ate for free.

My wife and I went here for dinner last night for the first time. I have never met a pickier eater than my wife and she found more than enough to eat. Gobi has a fun atmosphere, very attentive wait staff and awesome food. If you are looking for a fun, affordable, and unique dining experience I suggest trying Gobi!

Finally Connecticut has a mongolian grill! Restaurants like this are common out west and it looks like the east coast is catching on. The food was excellent and the ambiance was nice, though perhaps a little too bright. The chefs and servers were all very nice and hospitable.
