I wanted to write a review from a cigar lovers point of view, and most importantly I was a member at Godfather.
The staff are very friendly. They always ask if they can help you all the time. Â As my time as a member I never got treated rudely. I always got complete respect and great service. Â The owner was never rude and welcoming too but he has some major issues which I will get to in a little bit.
Firstly if you are wanting to go to a nice cigar bar with a good selection of cigars, a vast liquor selection and friendly staff then I can't recommend Godfathers enough.
If you are a cigar hobbyist, and you are thinking of getting a membership my advice is do not. Â Here is where the majority of my problems are with the business. Â Firstly it's $850.00 year. Â You get a locker, 20 to 30% off of box prices, a shirt, a large mug that you can have engraved, 10% all drinks, and 2 cigars put in your locker every month, and lastly you have access to the upstairs private lounge. Seems great right? That's what I thought.
Getting 30% off full boxes of cigars is wonderful but when the owner marks them up 20 to 25% over other cigar retailers in the area. It still ends up being cheaper buying them in another shop because most cigar shops give everyone 10% off box purchases and they are 25% cheaper than Godfather's prices to begin with. Â So right there you are not getting any bargain.
Next I did not get 2 free cigars in my locker every month. There was at least 3 months I did not receive them. Â Also the cigars the owner puts in your locker are the stuff he cannot sell. The cigars for the most part are very poor he gives you. Â I got one cigar that was filled with worm holes and I received many that were really low end. Â Now granted I wasn't expecting Padron anniverseries, Davidoffs, or Ashton VSGs but I got Savoys a few times. Savoys are made by Ashton and they are loose filled cigar that retails for $2.50 a stick. Really? That's my monthly cigar? I only received a few cigars that would be close to the $8.00 mark which is what I was expecting every month.
This brings me to the treatment of the walk in humidor. It is way too humid. The humidifier is running constantly, so much that the tile floor is wet. Someone could easily slip. Also the cigar boxes right next to the humidifier are molding, and so are parts of the cedar walls. Â This is just not cool with me. The cigars come very second to the liquor. Which I do understand I'm sure the owner makes 100 times more on alcohol sales than cigar sales, plus it is a cigar bar not shop so i get that but that is no excuse to maintain a walk in humidor poorly.
Also there are times were I could not use the upstairs lounge. This was due to the fact the owner had rented the whole upstairs for private functions. This wouldn't have bothered me so much if there was a notice in my locker about up coming private events telling me when the private lounge was being used for such events.
All in all if you are really into your cigars and it's a passion. Do not look here. Stick with a cigar shop I guarantee the cigars will be cheaper better maintained and if there is a locker membership it will be much more worth your money. $850.00 a year is just way too steep for what you actually get. Â The bar and upstairs lounge are very nice but not $850 nice.
Godfather cigar bar is for the causal cigar smoker only. Which is fine, Â it just wasn't a good fit for me.
If you want to enjoy a high-quality cigar lounge with trained staff, great service, and well-handled cigars, look elsewhere. Â Expect cigarette + hookah smoke, low-class people, and wooden high chairs. To get the most out of The Godfather, you must be a "VIP" member. Then, you can utilize the upstairs area, which is more of what a cigar lounge should be; however, it still falls short.
Review Source:The place looks nice but only on the surface. The staff is very condescending and the owner is quite frankly, rude. If you agree with him and everything he says, he is pleasant but as soon as you ask about something that he does't like, he treats you with great disrespect. For example, i asked why he didn't carry Alec Bradley cigars and he went on a rant about how terrible their company was. He then said that I , "clearly know nothing about cigars and told me i needed to buy $200 in cigars that he recommended to understand what a good cigar should taste like". Everyone has their own tastes and preferences and simply because someone enjoys different style cigars, doesn't mean that they know nothing or are inferior to him. I am no expert, but i know what i like, and i know a great variety of cigars because i taste a great variety.
They have a fairly small selection of cigars and there are many liquor stores with wider selections and more knowledgable staff.
