My idea of a perfect pool hall. I came up from San Jose looking to shoot at Dr. Cues and used a smartphone to find the closest hall. I LOVE the understated front door that my friends and I thought was the back door. I am the shooter among my friends so while they were looking for a brighter, less serious place, I was in Heaven. I kept hearing that line from The Hustler, "No bar, no pinball machines, no bowling alleys, just pool... nothing else. This is Ames, mister". Even though they did have food and drink available. I also love the simplicity of the rates. Pretty sure they're consistent 24 hours/day. Great tables.
As so many others have stated; this is a pool hall for pool players, but the relaxed atmosphere is great. We stunk it up that night and I was the worst among my group, but we had a great time.
I'll be back every time I go "back home" for a few days.
This place has the weirdest best hours of any place I have seen.  I get up early and get Starbucks most morning right at 5:00 AM and this place is still open from the previous night, on weeknights!  Although I do not play pool I just had to check it out. The staff was really really nice. Tthe patrons were friendly, including  giving me tips on how to play pool when I looked baffled. (I get the concept, just not how to hold the cue, etc )  They have classic rock music playing, a massage chair in front of a big screen TV, and people serious about, uh, what's that game called? Oh yeah, pool. Nice place but really designed for serious players.  When I asked about their unusual late night hours one of the staff said "We stay as late as our customers want us too".
