Cheap booze right on the mountain. This is a nice place to hit right after a day on the slopes. The happy hour specials start at 3pm and go until 6pm, and you can find coupons with additional discounts for GPG in the local Steamboat coupon books.
Service? Some confusion about our drink order, but that was quickly rectified. They split our check across credit cards and cash for our oddly numbered group.
Food? I didn't have particularly high expectations for the food here, and those expectations were pretty much met. Cheese fries are less than spectacular.
Booze? Yes please! Here's a coupon!
The bacon bloody mary got my friends and I to come back. We were there for breakfast and a mid-day drink, which was another bacon bloody mary. Anytime during the day this place is packed. Families usually don't take up any bar space which is great for those of age. Although the drinks are great, staff not so much. The bartender wasn't able to engage in conversation with anyone because he was so busy. There should be waitstaff available to the bar area rather than having to order drinks and food at the bar with only one bartender.
Review Source:Great spot right on the mountain. Went in here right after arriving in Steamboat and couldn't have been greeted any better. Titus (sp) the bar tender is a great guy, definitely kept myself and a buddy entertained the whole time we were in. Happy hour specials are pretty good. I see all of these complaints about the cost of the food, but remember that this is a privately owned bar on a ski hill. You're going to pay the same, if not more, for other places like this in the area, so just get ready for that. I will most definitely be back here.
Review Source:If I could give no ratings I would. Â Talk about over priced for honestly the worst food. It's comparable to that of a truck stop cafe. I got the Turkey Wrap it was $10.50. I hadn't ate all day so I figured I'd pay the ridiculous price. Â That wasn't the only problem however, there were MANY. Â
I arrived right before a rush and no one was in there. I joined a party of friends who had been there prior. Â First off the waitress had not once approached to ask for my drink order, I had to flag her down after 20 mins. She forgot to bring me a menu and was reminded multiple times. She was extremely rude, not just to me but everyone in her section. Â Rolling her eyes, snapping back, purposefully ignoring people. I have never seen such repulsive service. Â S
he was lazy at her job and rude. When I received my bill I saw she over charged my meal making even more ridiculously over priced. She didn't deserve a tip and yet put her gratuity on the check. Â I was the only person on the check and who ordered a meal. My meal in total cost a staggering 16 bucks for a crummy turkey wrap and cold fries. I am extremely appaled and will never return and I live in town. Gor being a diner feel this place needs to seriously change their prices and not employ such lazy servers.
I came here twice while I was in Steamboat last week. Great location at the bottom of the gondola.
Pluses - location, location, location. And live music after skiing!!! Cool Western vibe (typical Steamboat decor)!
Food - Quesadilla was ok - nothing fancy, too much cheese (a phrase I have never before written in my life), I think the salsa was from a jar and the guacamole did not taste fresh.
Negative - we had to wait FOREVER for our server to notice us. It was busy but not THAT busy. And it was a little annoying that the bartender didn't hook me up with a beer or a shot on my birthday.....just sayin'.
I know 5 stars is pushing it, and probably not totally accurate. But when I think of Steamboat, I think of the morning I was there with 26" of fresh encapsulating the mountain. I don't even know how to ski in that much snow! Black runs required no turning at all! Just hope to hell you make it back to a chair lift and don't fall!
So this is a review for a restaurant not the mountain you say? Well yes it is, but the snow part matters. Because it turns out GP&G has a powder day special! Cheap bloody-mary's! It was the best bloody-mary I can ever remember having too. GAWD it was good. I asked for it extra spicy and I'm not exactly sure what they did but it was GOOD, and the angels sang.
Also the food was pretty good too, I remember getting a grilled chicken sandwich that was really well made. Overall when I think of Steamboat, I think of GP&G! Well that and the crazy dumps of snow I had while I was there.
Atmosphere was always friendly and I really give big bonus points there too.
Are you in town for a little skiing or bike riding? Â Are you hungry? Â Are you not willing to spend the minimum of $13 for a burger at the nearby Truffle Pig? Â So you're saying, you're cheap? Â Oh, frugal. Â Fine, whatever floats your boat.
So the 4 of us were in town to ride the snow and we came in a day early. Â After my friends got their rentals in order, we shopped a little and found ourselves a little hungry. Â Yelp suggested the Truffle Pig and we decided to go because of the name, until we saw the prices.
Do you like fried foods? Â Do you like nachos? Â Do you like pickles? Â Who doesn't?! Â You can get all of those and maybe all of them combined! Â Okay, not all, but fried pickle spears? Â Make it so.
So it's happy hour and we notice that it's $1 off all appetizers. Â Appetizer dinner! Â Wait. Â You said you were cheap, right? Â I mean, wanted cheap.. Â right.
Do you like tortilla chips covered in chili, sour cream, cheese and God knows what?! Â Then you should try something they call "Pub nachos" (only available during happy hour [after 3pm]).
If you like fried pickle chips, perhaps you should try fried pickle spears! Â They're better because they retain their moisture.
The onion rings are good, but they get cold quickly and lose their appeal.
Cheese fries? Â Yeah, they're okay.
The Ribeye? Â Probably okay if they offered it.
The service is okay, our waitress was on the ball that day, but the next day, the waitress would only bring things in the order they were asked. Â A refill, silverware and ketchup only came one per visit to our table. Â It took a while.
You can sit outside next to the gas fire. Â We did considering it was 55 degrees and inside was a little cramped.
They got lots to drink, alcoholic and non. Â It's right in the middle of the base, so it's easy to get to and a great place to meet up if your group likes to split up or your friends like to go rogue cause you're too slow.
Go big and before going home hit the Gondola Pub and Grill.
Dear Gondola Pub & Grill -
Thank you for hosting us twice during our trip. The first was for lunch before our half-day pass kicked in. We split the chicken strips, and each had our own starter. The white chicken chili was great and I would suggest it to anyone with taste buds.
The second day was for drinks only at the bar. Though the bar area is small, it's worth spending time here when you're done with a day on the slopes (so long as you can get a seat).
The Gondola Pul & Grill also offers outdoor seating around a fire for those who want that atmosphere, and can even order from the bar at the window.
I remember the Gondola Pub and Grill as the Grubstake from many years ago. Now, as then, this was the first place we hit for lunch on the mountain. Â They've got all the basics just right. Â Convenient location, friendly staff, simple menu, good food and lots of it. Â We had a variety of items from the menu - sandwich's, burgers, chicken and even fish and chips - all well prepared. Â I'd like to go back for dinner and try out the ribs, but dinner is served only on special holiday nights, so difficult to plan. Â Try their lunch.
Review Source:What I like about the Gondola Pub & Grill is the location. Â It's centrally located in the little Steamboat square. Â The staff is pleasant and pretty attentive given the lay out of this joint. Â
What I don't like about the Gondola Pub & Grill is that the bathrooms NEVER have hand soap!!! WTF! Â It's gross enough that I can't wash my hands with soap but the fact that the staff is not washing their hands with soap... blahhhhhhhhhhhhh.
The whatever about the Gondola Pub & Grill is the wait time and food. Â Wait time can be a little long and the food is just meh.
So last month I went up to Steamboat for a weekend ski jaunt. Although I did more relaxing than skiing, I did hit the slopes for at least one full day before my legs turned to jelly. At the end of that day, I wrapped up with a few hot toddies and bar snacks at the Gondola. While I wouldn't call this fine dining on any scale, it gets the job done as far as filling your empty belly after expending millions of calories going up and down the mountain. My sis and I split a soup-salad-sando combination, and my brother in law had a burger and beers. While I thought his burger looked a little weird (I thought it could have passed for a veggie burger in appearance) he said he enjoyed it. HH is from 3-6 every day, and you can get some pretty good deals on adult beverages and apps.
All in all a decent place filled with skiing paraphernalia (even an antique gondola in the main dining room), lots of peeps, and semi-harried wait staff.
This part of Colorado still has not been handled and molested by the reviewers of yelp. Â I'm used to reviewing places in the bay with over 100 reviews, while over here, very few reviews exist, even though it is a pretty hot vacation ground.
This is one of two legit places right at the base of the resort where one can relax and unwind with food and drinks. Â So it gets pretty packed for the apres-ski crowd, where you either have to stand at the bar or put your name on a wait for a table. Â That is my only real knock for this place.
Beers are cheap and cold during happy hour $2.50 pints for domestic and some pretty good pub grub is also to be had. Â We tried their Chili-Cheese Fries $6 and was real tasty after a long day in the snow. Â Fries nothing spectacular but the chili was quite good and homemade. Â It definitely was not from a can, with 3 beans, a little meat and a lighter but chunky tomato base. Â With gooey cheese, these were grub with the beers. Â We also tried a basket of the Baby Back Ribs $10. Â You get a half rack in a basket, about 6-8 ribs, of beautifully smoked tenderness. Â The outside had a nice dark bark and nice full smoky aroma while the inside was tender, hot and pink. Â No sauce on the actual meat (the way it oughta be) but they gave you plenty on side, which I barely touched, even though it wasn't bad. Â The meat could of used a little more rub or salt, but it was still damn tasty that we ended up ordering another basket.
So a great place to chill or shall I say "defrost" for these parts, and definitely do try their ribs. Â They are, as they say in my neck of the woods, straight money!
