Had the early bird prix fixe dinner. Â Visited during a very slow tourist season with only about 6 other parties in the cavernous but elegant dining room. Â Apparently they had deployed their 2nd string wait staff. Â Food very good but service lacking. Â Happy to have not paid full ala carte prices.
Review Source:After reading some of the iffy reviews on here regarding the Grand Dining room, I was a little worried that it might kill a relatively perfect day on Jekyll. Â Boy was it a good idea to give it a chance!
After a private evening carriage ride with my boyfriend, we drove to the Jekyll Island Club Hotel and walked around looking for the dining hall. (it's directly up the stairs through the white double doors to the left) When we finally found our way to the Maitre D's area he was awaiting our arrival with our name on his lips ready to seat us. The hostess greeted us and bade us a good evening and as we followed him to our seats a violinist and pianist began to play. The Maitre D pulled my chair out for me and placed my napkin in my lap. This is a very lovely and posh place.
That night we were waited on by Brad(awesome job) who greeted us and asked if we wanted to start with a glass of
wine or a cocktail. We started our meal with two glasses of Prosecco. Delicious.
The featured appetizer that night was fried almost toasted goat cheese, so we had to try it. It was incredibly light, creamy and comforting.
Highly recommend the duck (f it's on the menu)
Mother's Day Brunch. Not up to usual standards. The service was 5 stars! Every plate was removed at the appropriate time. Courtesy was extended upon every opportunity by every staff member. Every piece of used silver was replaced with clean between courses. Seafood was terribly salty. Prime rib was excellent. Desserts Chocolate Mousse) and others were obviously prepared by a pastry chef. Coffee is the best, too. We LOVE Jekyll Island Club and will be back.
Review Source:Located within the Jekyll Island Club Hotel, this historic restaurant offered contemporary favorites; such as Shrimp and Grits. Â I must say that the yellow grits were quite hearty and I could have eaten a bowl of them alone. Â It was a pleasure to dine in the very room, in front of the same hearth that hosted millionaires of days now gone. Â We went the day after Christmas and found ourselves dining almost alone in this great room. Â The waitress was pleasant and steered us in the correct direction upon making our selections. Â I certainly would enjoy coming back here for a nice romantic afternoon. Â The entire experience conjures imaginative thoughts of the Great Gatsby :)
Review Source:Given that the room wasn't even half full, I felt silly worrying that we were 5 minutes late for our reservation due to some kind of party taking up all of the nearby parking. Parking tip - enter the historic district parking on the Sea Turtle Center side and park behind the Jekyll Island Club Hotel.
The food here did not live up to the beautiful surroundings. I only ate half of my "award winning" $30 shrimp and grits, and that's one of my favorite dishes. Hubby D's ravioli was nicely flavored, but bubbled up like it was overcooked. My grits were just a lumpy pile of hardened mush. Given the wait between when our soggy roma tomato pastry appetizer arrived and when our entrees arrived, I'd say our food sat under the heat lamp for quite some time. At least we got a free refill on bread, which was very good.
The live pianist and violinist played Disney themes and standards, which kind of took away from the fancy atmosphere. The Grand Dining room is nice enough for some familiar classical favorites, is it not?
I think we'll stick to other restaurants on future visits to the island.
Great food & great atmosphere. The raisin-pecan bread is amazing. Everyone at the table loved what they ordered. The service was impeccable. The cost is not cheep, but the prices are standard for an upscale joint with great food.
Just sitting in their dining room makes you long for the days of tea and cucumber sandwiches.
Jekyll Island is one of the most idyllic resorts in the Coastal Georgia area. It's a very quiet place for nature lovers - a great place to get the family away from the hustle and bustle of their everyday lives. The main attraction is the historic district where the wealthiest once game to play. The Jekyll Island Club Hotel is the center of this golden era and the Grand Dining Room is a wonderful and lasting remnant that allows diners to feel what it must have been like to be a Carnegie or Vanderbilt.
The luscious dining room has been kept in pristine condition. My parents and I have been to the Grand Dining Room for their Sunday Brunches several times now. We always request seating in the sun room. The gracious waitress starts you off with a glass of Yellowtail Sparkeling Wine. First off, the wine really surprised me. It was so refreshing and light - of course Yellowtail is known to be a reliable winemaker so I shouldn't have been so surprised.
The brunch buffet has an excellent assortment of items including a tasty pastry bar, a hot bar that includes scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage links/patties, and grilled veggies, fresh fruit, and omelettes made to order. On the other size of the buffet there is a an excellent warm and cold seafood bar, carving station, and soup and salad bar. There's also a selection of wonderful cheeses and cured meats and of course a dessert bar with amazing pies, tarts, and cookies.
The service is impeccable and the food is absolutely delicious. The price is $28.95 - including juices, coffee and tea. For special brunches including Easter, Christmas, and Mother's Day expect a higher price as they bring out special items.
