Went here for dinner and drinks on a nice Summer evening, and it was great. Sat outside, and the waitress was super-attentive, and made sure our drinks were never empty. The wings were great, and the basket of onion rings was an excellent value ($5ish for like 20 rings!).
Nice laid back atmosphere, not pretentious, and not overly "Bro-ish". Good spot to go for young professionals who aren't dbags.
Great local bar. Delicious wings and very attentive wait staff :-)
By far, their specialty are the wings. You can create sauce combo's which are amazing. For years a bunch of us have been ordering the amazingly delicious sauce combo of:
BBQ, Parmesan, Garlic, and Medium
They shake all of the flavors up with the wings and creates the best combination yet. They serve the wings in a large wooden bowl and when they uncover it on your table, the delicious smelling smoke and steam billows out.
Try that combo - you will not be disappointed!!
Came here on a Saturday afternoon for a few beers and lunch. Â It was nice outside so their wasn't many people there. Â I asked the bartender if they had drink any specials? Â She informed me No, really? Â It would only make sense to have some type of special going on seeing though it would try to draw people in a nice cool bar on a hot/humid day. Â Not here though. Wasn't too pleased with their draft beers selection so I opted for a Sam Adams Light bottle. Â For lunch I order just a plain old cheese burger with fries. Â Pretty damn good burger as bar food goes, really good flavor. The fries were equally as good. Â Would I come back...maybe, nothing really stands out about this place and beers here aren't the cheapest.
Review Source:Pretty standard bar food. The mozzarella sticks were pretty good. I think they pride themselves more than anything else on having a lot of TVs and hot waitresses. The place isn't that big so the tables fill up quick. We ended up sitting in a little area off the bar on a big sectional couch with a coffee table completely surrounded by TVs. A different dining experience to say the least.
Seems like a good place to go if you wanna chill and watch some sports.
It was Friday evening. Â We had been drinking since happy hour started and now the NCAA Sweet Sixteen matches were about to start. Â We were hungry, but wanted to keep drinking. Â Where could we find a decent place to accommodate such Friday evening wants?
Then I remembered Graney's, which I hadn't been to in awhile, but everything Ryan M. wrote two years ago still holds true:
1) Hot Waitress
2) Reasonably priced bar food
3) Hell of a lot of flat screen televisions to watch college basketball. Â I think there is pretty much one television for each seat.
But there are more cool things:
4) A semi-private area with a comfortable couch and table to accommodate a larger party.
5) Surprisingly very good Buffalo wings. They are very similar to the famous wings at The Anchor Bar as they are meaty, spicy and crispy. Â Could use more sauce, but they hit the spot.
6) Pizza Fries. Â Steak fries shaken in Buffalo sauce and topped with mozzarella. Â A glutinous feast to feed your whole party.
7) A true Sports enthusiast atmosphere. Â We were watching the UNC vs. Ohio game and the bar was split between Tar Heel fans and those, like me, who after admitting their brackets are doomed, were now rooting for the Ohio underdog.
Outside of the wings, the rest of the food is only decent, but I think Graney's may be the best sports bar in Albany.
3 1/2 stars.
The atmosphere here is pretty chill. Every Monday is trivia night and every Tuesday is wing night ($4.99 for 10 wings with purchase of a drink). The service here isn't the best (depending on which bartender/waitress you get), but I do love the food. Their prices are reasonable, but I only ever over their wings or the pizza fries. In my opinion, they have the best wings in the area!
Review Source:First off: when the law/medical/pharmacy schools are in session, it's definitely a "college bar" if you will. That said, as a law student, I strongly prefer it to Lionheart or Justin's over on Lark. It's one of my Albany standards because it's like a blend between a sports bar and one of the over-crowded, music blaring bars where you have to shout into the ear of the person next to you just to be heard. Lots of TVs, but I would never call this place a straight-up sports bar.
The drinks are good, and I've even stopped in for lunch a few times. I've heard others talk about the relative inconsistency in food quality, and I must respectfully dissent. I've never thought the food was bad, considering the prices charged (very cheap!). The wings, burgers and nachos are all above-average, though I haven't ventured much past that.
Service can be a little slow when they're busy, but generally it's not too awful.
Bottom line: it's a good, cheap bar located proximate to several grad schools that's not overrun with townies. Manage your expectations and you may find you enjoy your time here.
Graney's Sports Bar & Grill gives you what you would expect. Â The facade is somewhat faded storefront. Â You walk in and there are a plethora of tv's everywhere for easy viewing. Â The decor is old city funk which you either think is terrible or just fine for an older college style bar.
Waitresses are friendly and service is quick. Â There is a very good selection of beers. Â There is a wide selection of menu items. Â The wings are excellent as well as the crispy chicken sandwich, Santa Fe chicken wrap, and fish fry sandwich were all good. Â I'd pass on the spaghetti and meatballs. Â The meatballs were good but the sauce had little flavor. Â Salads were good too.
This is a good place to grab a bite especially late. Â It may not be a modern establishment, but I'll be back for the sports, brews and service.
The food here is not very good (although my burger was cooked correctly) and my Blue Moon came with the tiniest of orange wedges in it. Â I didn't eat the bun on my burger because it was kind of stale and unappealing. Â The fries were good but so greasy that I could only eat a handful to avoid feeling sick. There was some trivia thing going on when we went here which was good because that meant the music wasn't blasting while we ate dinner. Â It has a fun bar atmosphere and ample seating (seat yourself) but it's just not somewhere to go for a memorable meal.
Review Source:*DO NOT GO HERE, WORST EXPERIENCE EVER*
WAITRESS NAME: PAULETTE (WORST WAITRESS I'VE EVER HAD)
Where do I begin? I've never experienced such bad service...ever.
We were a large party, so I can see why she may have been a little stressed out, but it was no excuse for the attitude we experienced throughout our meal. I won't bore you with details, but these were a few things she did:
*spills hot sauce on my friend as she brings her meal, looks at it, walks away, NO APOLOGY
(bill arrives) I notice she has overcharged me, I tell her. She tells me I'm wrong. I show her the menu with the correct price. She proceeds to *GRAB* the menu from my hands in a loud *SIGH* and says to me "FINE, I'll give you your 50 cents, alright?" Comes back a few minutes later and *THROWS* 2 quarters on the table. "But you owe me $1" She goes back and throws another 2 quarters. *NO APOLOGY FOR OVERCHARGING, AND GIVES ATTITUDE FOR HER MISTAKE*
Another friend is waiting for her to take his credit card, and after a while we decide to just go to the bar on our way out to hand her card. My friend asks if he can pay because we need to leave, she gets angry and says "NOW I'M GOING TO TAKE LONGER" ....WOW!
Have you ever experienced such bad service? I've never seen anyone so upset about getting so much business. Her name was PAULETTE. Feel free to go here if you want to pay to be ridiculed and the target of a very very troubled woman.
Graney's, never again.
Graney's yes please!
What a simple, yet entirely genius business strategy. Here's the idea...
1) Very Attractive friendly waitresses
2) Cheap Bar food and beer
3) A ton of flat screen TVs
That's why this place is so busy everyday at lunch and also why I've heard it's the place to be for any major televised sporting event(never been here for football, I'll have to check it out). Curiously though, I've only heard praise from my guy friends/co-workers wonder why that is?
I myself have been here for dinner and lunch several times and while the sights are probably better than food...it's a great place for you and your guy friends to go chillax, eat wings, play darts, and toss back a few cheap cold ones.
There have been many places like this that have tried but failed in the execution; Graney's however, pulls it off quite nicely. The waitresses are all friendly and funny. It's really a great atmosphere for your next guys night out!
Great place to watch the game and have a beer. Beautiful waitstaff and a nice bar atmosphere which can get pretty loud. There are a lot of TV's.
The best thing there is the wings, hands down. A good variety of sauces and the option to mix them. They always seem to come out perfect.
The other food is so so. Take the burgers for example. I've ordered great burgers from there some days, other days I've almost gotten sick from what I've eaten. Most of the time it is hit or miss.
Overall though a good neighborhood bar.
Overall, this place isn't my scene.
It's not a bad little neighborhood bar/sports bar but it's a little too filled with college students for my tastes. While there on a Friday night, it felt a little too meat market-y for my liking. And some stupid girl gave me major attitude for knocking on the restroom door to see if anyone was inside.
Aside from the patrons though, it wasn't bad. My cranberry and vodka was perfectly mixed and my nachos were surprisingly good. They even gave me a free shot when they realized they'd forgotten to put the veggie chili on the side like I asked. Not bad Graneys.
Ahh the old local hangout... Hottest bartenders in Albany (hell one was even in Maxim) and 2 dartboards along with a great menu and good selection of beer make this the place to be if you're in albany med/law or just a guy who lives in pine hills. Â You may even see the mayor here, he stops by often:)
