This restaurant is only a short walk away from where I live so I had to try it. The food is pretty decent if you're looking for something casual, or maybe just played a round of golf. Nice views of Mt. Diablo, friendly service and crispy fries! Yum

I like to go to the Greenery with friends to go and sing Karaoke. It is so much fun and the bartenders are really great. They have a lot of TV's and I like how there is so much parking available. Rare in Walnut Creek. They have a very nice selection of karaoke songs and it is good when the regulars come to participate. Very fun and not the typical Walnut Creek scene. Very chill and fun. Salute!

I liked it everything was good.   The food was on the warm side not hot so make sure you ask them to get it hot or take it back so they will heat the meat for you.   Everyone is very nice and I like the free wifi.

TOP FIVE (5) REASONS TO SIT IN MELISSA'S SECTION:

    5) If you're there to watch TV, the bar is right under the giant large screens so you're better off at a table anyhow. That way you can see lots of TVs without straining the neck.

    4) She laughed at my husband's lame attempts at humor as we ordered. I liked the smile and nods he received. And she has a nice smile!

    3) She knows her salsa! I ordered the "other" salsa ($1 extra) and last time here someone brought me pico de gallo... Melissa read my mind and brought me the hot stuff. Man it's good. I put it on the chips, our $1 tacos (yeah, we were back on a Monday) - it was soooo good! The regular salsa wasn't bad either. Just not as hot.

    2) She'll recommend a good drink. Hubby got all controlling and told me I didn't want beer when I ordered my Bud Light - so Melissa suggested her favorite drink: a Twisted Pine ($5.00). Husband had a Vodka + Coke ($4.00). She got the drinks out quick and her recommendation was great. (Though, it was pretty strong! They both were!!)

    1) She checked back up on us (but not too much) - kept our waters full - remembered everything (sourcream came out with the tacos - $1) - we had napkins - got the check fast when it was all said and done.

I'm fairly critical of service when dining out - so it greatly pleases me when I get all-around good service.
*Especially when that service comes with good drinks, great food, and a smile.*

13 TV's! We went to the Greenery after kidz love soccer at Heather Farms. We haven't gone to this place in years. To my surprise it had 13 TV's all with the 49ers Monday night game on. It was great, so many TV's the room didn't need lights! I had a beer that was very cold and we ordered dinner. It was $1.00 taco night they were good and the service was good too. We will be back to watch another game on the 13TV's! Glad to have a fun sports bar so close!

If you enjoy a casual dining atmosphere where the staff is friendly and food is good then this is your place. Great menu lots of food. If you make it on a Karaoke night it is lots of fun and entertaining.
It is a neighborhood bar which is good and bad.....the good is you can go there and feel at home..... the bad is the regulars tend to take over the restaurant /bar and if you are not a regular they will make you feel out of place.

Without question, The Greenery has the best cheeseburgers in the Walnut Creek area. Juicy, fresh produce, grilled and wonderful.

Tacos on Monday night are very good and Karaoke on the Weekend is a blast. Lots of interesting folks from 21 to 65 years old.

Drinks and drink prices are good and while the decor leaves a lot to be desired, this place is affordable and good.

This review is strictly based on the tacos they have on Monday nights, the tacos are only a buck each but I've had way better before for dollar tacos.

Other than that the place looked spacious and had a great view of Mt. Diablo!

I was surprised to see a 4 star rating.  I have to say the service was decent but the food was average bar food.  Nothing to write home about.  The building is older and its very casual.  Seems to get loud in the evening so this isn't the spot to have a mello conversation over a quick bite.  The taco night was fun but the food quality from a roach coach taco trailer is by far superior -- and after you got done with the small $1.25 taco's you could probably pay for a meal at a mexican restaurant.  All in all it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good enough to bring me back a second time.

Been here twice, both on a Friday evening, pre-Karaoke. The food is good, the drinks are good and the service is good. Plus they have lotto machines including HotSpot (Ca Lottery's Keno). Fun times.

So far, the roll-ups (wraps) are the best but overall, all of the food we've tried is decent.

Good bar food. Full bar. Good beer on tap. Karaoke. Lots of tvs. It gets a lil crazy at night on weekends but the crowd is made up of all ages. Fun times.

I don't have plans going back here.  Went for St. Patty's day so it was packed, but was not able to sing.  The kareoke dj sung a few songs among the regulars, but it seems as though if you're not a regular you will quickly get passed up.
Forgot how long it can take to sing if very crowded, but my issue was beyond that. When I checked on status after waiting a long period of time I was told we was 11th. The dj said if I switch the name to Kim & Jen (rather than Jen & Kim) we would get to come up sooner. Although that sounded quite ridiculous, I said ok change it.  Sitting the back is hard to hear, but I did hear her say the name on last call. I walked up and was told we were called but we didn't come. Hmm, I came when I heard the last call, but apparent because I didn't sprint to front we were denied. No chance of singing.
Soooo did not like that dj.

I love this bar for a variety of reasons,

The first and biggest reason is the karaoke! Its the best in town no doubt and the dj is great at it. There is a good selection of songs and its a fun environment on the weekends, Sunday karaoke is a different vibe. Its slower and comfy. I also love the food there. It is surprisingly very tasty. I would go for the smothered burger and the soups are really good too. Monday night is ONE DOLLAR taco night. So cheap and authentic with a variety from carnitas to chorizo.Drinks are nice and strong and the beer on tap is satisfyingly diverse, and the staff are great behind the bar. I have never been golfing but the course looks beautiful and it seems like a fair price. All in all, this bar is great. It is definitely on the divey end and  is tucked away and gets unappreciated for how cool it is. The only thing I wish it had was a pool table!

The fried mozzarella sticks (shared with my honey) and chicken quesadilla were typical bar food.  They were also inexpensive and served up quickly.

The main reason we were there was for Friday night karaoke.  The karaoke was fun, with a fabulous KJ and supportive crowd.   The song list was fantastic, with lots of new tunes.  The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the placement of dance song breaks between some of the singers.  What if someone was planning to sing that song later?  With so many people waiting to sing, why are we wasting a turn on a dance break song?  (Yes, I'm serious about my karaoke.)

If you are going to The Greenery to sing karaoke -- arrive early, be patient with the KJ, and support each other.

I had NO idea what to expect when I was told to meet friends at this location.  The Greenery is different.
It was a Friday night and it was a Karoake night, you're either a regular here, a semi-regular, someone like me that stumbled into this place because friends were there.
The karoake is... karoake.  I've never done it but they all seemed to have fun.  The crowd is encouraging and non-judgmental and the wait staff seem to enjoy themsleves.
I had two beers so they drinks were good.

This place is not fancy with all the snobby trimmings one expects from a restaurant in Walnut creek.  It reminded me more of the way most neighborhood hang-outs  used to be; fun crowd, friendly staff and great food for a great price.
I had the chicken quesadilla, that thing was huge and good and the price right. The drinks were strong and priced reasonable.
Saturday night was karaoke-night and the place was packed. The crowd displayed my first impression of the restaurant;  fun and uncomplicated.

MONDAY NIGHTS $1 TACOS!  Seriously I was blown away by the price and quality of tacos.  The guac is out of a package, at least it looks and appears that way, but everyone of the meats (steak, pork, and chorizo) were off the charts good.  My favorite is the pork, tender and moist.  They have a decent beer selection on tap, full bar.  They do not have a juke box, just plastered on every wall are huge (at least 42 inch flat screens) TVs.  Every other Monday night they have live music.  I was there Monday 3/21, and it was an off night, so 3/28 there will be live music.  I will be there!

The Greenery is like Cheers, only with more music. On Karoake nights, you're either a regilar here, a semi-regular, or those youngsters sitting smack dab in the middle of the room who somehow managed to stumble on this gem of a place and now being loud, rambunctious, and entertainingly off-key.

The karoake rocks, the crowd is encouraging and non-judgmental and the food is all the more better for the fact that you didn't have to cook it at home while watching American Idol. The staff is awesome, the drinks strong & steadily flowing.

As Ashanudra says, get there early to get your stage name in rotation. Get there anytime to enjoy the entertainment.

$1 tacos- chicken, carne asada, carniatas, al pastor and even veggie.
I asked the waitress for a veggie taco, and she came back and said the kitchen could do it! I got two, each had al dente sauted veggies like squash zuccini, broccoli, tomato, and onions. Accompanied with cheese and guac. All on a corn tortilla. Love it! I ll be back for mexican mondays.

Oh the Greenery... why must you punish my attempt to diet prior to my wedding?!?!

A+ fries... and other yummy fried delights. The pub food makes my tummy happy, and I enjoyed the craziness that ensues on Karaoke nights!

Was at the Greenery for a Xmas party- we rented out the resturant.

Would categorize this place as a dive bar. You will see "regulars" of all ages and karaoke to 80s and 90s songs. We did experience some of these "regulars" snooping through our belongings while we were dancing.

After a great round of golf at Diablo Hills, The Greenery offers a casual - sports oriented atmosphere, friendly staff, and fantastic burgers.  TV's on every square inch of the restaurant.  On Monday night, try The Greenery's $1 tacos.

Good staff one star, good ambiance and heavy handed bartenders one star...................but don't drink the beer out of the tap it will give you the shits! So will the greasy food..............
Owner is a complete moron.... he looks like an over sized Buhda
statue and gets to drunk and screams and yells like a whale out of water.
If it wasn't for the steady flow of regulars this place would not even be open...... Would it hurt so bad to have a happy hour like most drinking establishments?

1 star for being walking distance from my house
1 star for dollar taco nights on Monday (that could be 5 stars alone)
1 star for the friendly staff
1 star for all the times I've cracked up at karaoke
1 star for all the t.v.'s with sports on it - knowing I can always enjoy a cold beer and a game :)

This one's for you, Amanda K.

My dear Yelpie friend lives down the street from this place, and I've been probably 3-4 times - once for brunch, the other times to enjoy watching people make idiots of themselves doing karaoke (okay, maybe we participated once....just ONCE!). The New Kids on the Block guy from one evening was a particular favorite.

The beer selection is decent, as was the food from what I remember. I'm not in the East Bay all that often, but I have a feeling I'll find myself back here again....

Great place to hang out and relax.  I love the tacos here, and there is always something new on the menu that I want to try...like the Greenery Grill sandwich.  The staff is friendly, and I'm really loving the new torilla chips that the cook made...I hope that wasn't a one time thing!!!!  Plus the entertainment is amazing, because most of the karoke singers are not that good which makes the experience even more hilarious.

    Ah...The Greenery...

This is our go-to place when we can't figure out what else to do and don't want to drive into downtown WC on a Friday night AND don't want to change out of your t-shirt and jeans.  It's one of those places where you grab a bunch of friends to just hang out and sing some incredibly competitive karaoke while drinking beer and chomping on onion rings.  Notice I said "competitive"?  I'm not joking...there are some regulars there that could put American Idol competitors to shame.  Luckily, there's enough beer to alter your perception enough to make you feel like you're one of them.

    I like.

I dig this place.  Get the chicken quesadilla, it's fat, full plate, and it's worth the price.  mmm...mmm... cheesy!  All their items were reasonably priced too between $6.50-$9.50.  Our server was helpful as well.  The place can be cleaner, but hey it's a club house/restaurant for a golf course (what do you expect), but don't get me wrong our area was clean.  It's old like your local mom-n-pop's bar, with tables.  Don't come here expecting it to be like TGIF or Crapplebee's.  Come here for the drinks, good american food, good people, and of course the karaoke...

What I witnessed, and two final words...
Fat old white guy, singin' "i'm just a Love Machine!!!"...  Enough said!

    in 1 word: consistent

at the greenery i can always count on:
    -friendly and excellent service
-the french fries being better than the rest of what i ordered (the other food is just okay)
-at 27, i'll be the youngest customer by at least 30 years
-the karaoke volume will be so loud that after 9PM, i wont be having much conversation

Karaoke line had a long wait (Friday night), and just that neigborhood bar kind of crowd. Not for gals glammed up looking for some fun Karaoke singing. we felt so awkward amongst the oldies. ehhh...cheap good drinks though, so what can I say...2 stars for that...

you want glam...stay in downtown WC or go to SF!

    Yeah yeah yeah...Monday nights..

What more do you want?... good ice cold large hefeweizen, one dollar tacos and a live rock band.  The best entertainment money can buy in this economy.  Steak tacos were excellent! ... yeah chicken taco was good too. Definitely, a good buy with casual atmosphere.

The band was fun...loud and hot...but hey, rock/blues is not hot unless your ears bleed...ROCK ON! Maybe next time I'll have the guts to join the jam and be a rocker, too.

Came to drink some beer and eat some food. The dining room is elevated and overlooks a pool and Heather Farms. There weren't a lot of people at first, but it quickly filled. There is a good selection of beer, local and imports. The prices were pretty good. I had a bacon burger (~$8). Huge pieces of bacon and a good size beef patty, lots of fries and it all tasted really good.

The next best part of the Greenery...the energetic karaoke host. He's totally into the music and definitely not shy. Not surprising to me, there were a lot of people ready to get up and get down.

Anyway, maybe next time we'll go there a little earlier and go hit a few balls and putt at the nearby greens.

So would I come back here, of course!

Bottom Line at the Top: Despite America's less than best service, American's best tacos make you come back week after week!

Just a few yards beyond the 18th green, the Greenery sits atop a ridge overlooking Mt. Diablo like a castle overlooking its providence.  And while its homely interior, half hazard wait staff, and 'casual' dinning experience are far from that suited to royalty, it does have a loyal and devout following... and some of the best tacos this side of the boarder.

Monday night football draws a big crowd with its wall-wall coverage of flat screen tvs airing the game in 'surround vision.' They also got discounts on whiskey and beer, a sure fire way to attract the die-hard gridiron faithful to this watering hole. It's not fine-dinning, and at times can even feel like you're in a dive bar in Phillis south-side with all the expletives floating around, but that is half the fun.

But the real draw here are the delicious, authentic Mexican tacos and the price they pitch them for. For $1.00 a pop, you get your choice of chicken, el pastor (pork), cherizo, or steak, made in the authentic Latin tradition by Nacho himself  with avocado salsa, pico de gallo, and secret spices.

From a man who has traveled trough Central and South America, lived in Mexico, and eaten 80% of this meals at taco stalls while there, I can safely say that these tacos would make even the heartiest Landitos envious! Each flavor is distinctive, refined and amazing... the steak is just ridiculously good.

They do get a crowd on these nights, something I'm sure the wait staff is not used to. Sometimes they run out of tacos early, sometimes the drinks are a little watered down, and some times your less-than-thrilled-to-be-there server doesn't realize you're alive for about 30 minutes, but trust me on this... the tacos make it all worth it.

This is a fan-f'ing-tastic place to go on a Friday or Saturday night. It's not your typical douche bag hangout like many places are in WC. You have all types who come to this hangout and bag-o-douches are not the typical regulars.

They also make great drinks and they're super cheap. I bought my buddy 2 drinks and I think I probably had 4-5 drinks. My total was $39!!! In most places around CA, that would be a happy hour bill, but this was prime time. The servers and bartenders are all money. I've never gotten frustrated from trying to buy a drink at the bar or wait for my drink from the server.

On Friday and Saturday they have karaoke which is perfect for people watching. You get some guys that go for the crowd pleasing songs  such as "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond (never seen a crowd not get into this song). But then again you have the guys that make you want to stick needles in your ears. The last time we were there, there was a married couple and would only sing love songs and not well.

Go to this place for a good time all around. However, it's not really the place to pick up on people though.

This is not your typical Walnut Creek Bar.  If you are tired of the rich kid, douche bag, testosterone driven jerks of Walnut Creek; this is the place to go.  I don't know if it is the fact that its a golf course bar or there is karaoke, but the people there are down for a good time.

I went there last Friday night, found an empty table in the back and immediately was asked by the waitress what we wanted to drink.  Drinks weren't over priced and we got all of our drinks no more than 5 minutes after the order.

The regulars are hilarious entertainers.  Not only will you get a few good singers that will put on a show at karaoke, but you will get some very good laughs at the bad ones.

**To mirror what the guy said below, this review is strictly for the bar not the restaurant or the food.

YES.  First crack at this place.

Let me first put it out there that I am NOT writing a review on the Restaurant.  This review deals with the BAR ONLY.

There is really only one reason to come to the greenery at night, but its a pretty good reason.  The reason being...karaoke.  The Greenery was recently voted by Diablo Magazine as the top karaoke bar in the East Bay area and for good reason.  Its amazingly fun.

You'll find all kinds of people coming together at the Greenery for their weekly karaoke.  From the 80 year old man singing Sinatra to the 22 year old douche bag rapping "Baby Got Back."  And frankly thats what makes this place so fun.  Its a melting pot of talentless singers (thats not fair, some of them are good).  Even the bartenders get involved.

Oh yeah, and as the bar is out of the downtown area of walnut creek the drinks are about half the price.
