went here recently for a quick lunch with a few friends. we were the only people in the place... at 12pm even the bar was empty. I found this strange but we sat down anyway. We ordered mozzarella sticks, the bf got two hot dogs and fries and I got a hamburger with fries. While ordering the waitress didn't ask how I wanted my hamburger cooked... (minus one star). What if I wanted it well done? It came to me medium and that was fine.. but they should really ask. The bf's hot dogs were on the cold side, he figured his were cooked first before the rest of our meals were done (minus one star). The other people we were with seemed to enjoy their meals. refills came occasionally.. service was okay. overall underwhelming.. but a decent place for a quick bite.
Review Source:My experience here was pretty strange. When we went in for a bite to eat, it was mid day on a Sunday. When we walked in, there were a few people at the bar and that was it. I never like to eat somewhere where I am the only person dining because it makes you wonder if the waitress went to tell the chef what to cook, or if she is going back there to cook it herself.
We split an order of potato skins and a cheesesteak sandwich. I could have made better. The cheesesteak was skimpy on meat and cheese and the roll was VERY blah. The potato skins at least seemed home made and not frozen, but I would not have been surprised. The french fries that came with the cheesesteak were probably the highlight, since they were seasoned well.
The food wasn't awful, but the atmosphere was just too weird. We wanted to walk out the minute we walked in, but felt like everyone in the whole place was staring at us. We will not be back.
Went in for a noon time breakfast on a Thursday. Looking for a midday brew and a plate of eggs.
I decided on the "Daily Double" 2 eggs, bacon, sausage, french toast, a side of toast, and homefries. I ordered a tall glass of Guinness as well. The Guinness is in cans so about halfway down it gets tinny as heck not my style.
The plate on the other hand was nothing impressive. The eggs were cooked the bacon was too. The sausage was cooked on the flattop so burnt on one side fine everywhere else. Homefries are homemade so that was good.
Where this gets anything good and the one star is the music. On one of these midday retreats, listening to country makes sense. They played popular country the whole time it set the mood perfectly. So well in fact, with a smile, I relaxed even more.
Greg's is the best. Fast service, friendly staff, a neighborhood bar, right across the street from the Verizon Arena. They have a nice pool table and some video games. They have a nice bar too where you'll find some local Manchesterites as well as a few out of towners leaf-peeping or from the hotels or attending an event at Verizon Arena. Good food for the cheap price!!!! Quality Counts in this case!!!!!
Review Source:A convenient place to stop for drinks before Verizon events. Located at the corner of Elm Street & Lake Avenue directly across from the Verizon Wireless Arena, Greg's Place is open everyday for breakfast (8:00 AM-12:00 PM), lunch & dinner (12:00 PM-9:00 PM), and boozing (until 1:00 AM). The menu offers basic American fare including typical breakfast items (eggs, pancakes, French toast, etc), appetizers, sandwiches, chili, soups, salads, comfort food, pasta, and desserts (chef's special). On Verizon event nights, a special menu is served. Upon entering Greg's Place, you've stepped into a dark and very laid back lounge. The place is one open room with table seating, high top tables, seating around the bar, and beer signs on the walls. Holiday lights are strung around the bar. They have several TVs, a pool table, video games (Big Buck Hunter & Bowling), bar table games, and the Internet jukebox.
I stopped here for dinner on a quiet Tuesday evening (no events). The place was empty with only a couple having beers at the bar and chatting with the bartender/waitress. I sat myself at the bar to make things easier. I was ordering food only tonight.
I started out with a Crock of Clam Chowder ($3.25) which was good on a chilly night, served very hot with oyster crackers, not thick, but loaded with minced clams, potatoes, and a creamy savory broth.
For dinner, I ordered the Meatloaf Dinner ($7.25) served with mashed potatoes and niblet corn. The meatloaf (4 slices) was a bit dry, but tasty since it was covered in brown gravy. The mashed potatoes were chunky topped with brown gravy. The side of Linguine Marinara ($2.25) was cooked al dente and topped with a zesty chunky tomato sauce.
For dessert, they had two choices: apple pie or apple crisp. I had some Apple Crisp a la Mode ($4.95), which was prepared the way the bartender likes it, a generous pile of hot apple crisp with a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with whipped cream & cinnamon sugar, a good dessert.
Overall, the service was very friendly and attentive with refills on ice water and timely delivery of the food. The food here was good, but nothing special. I enjoyed my dinner to some groovy 1970s music playing from the jukebox. The atmosphere was a bit dark. I wouldn't recommend this place for a romantic meal, but it's a great place to chill out over some drinks and good homestyle food and to listen to some Barry White. Enough said!
