While trying to grab some lunch in Downtown Manch, I stopped into Maccao Pizza & Subs near the mission figuring I could grab a pizza. The place was empty around 1PM and it's a very cozy bar & lounge with dim lighting, comfortable velvet seating, and seating at the bar offering bottled beer and other drinks. The kitchen is in the back and the older Bosnian woman owner runs the place.
OWNER: May I help you?
ME: Yeah, can I see a menu please?
The Owner gives me a plastic menu (in English on one side & in Bosnian on the other side) which is very simple and (23 items) offers pizza (smoked beef, turkey ham, cheese, mushroom), Bosnian food (grilled meats, sausage sandwiches, burgers, veal steak, veal shish kabobs), Bosnian pie (meat & cheese), salads, cake & fruit salad. The prices range from $3 (salad) to $20 (Grilled Meat Samples).
ME: Can I get a pizza?
OWNER: We don't have pizza!
I looked puzzled and I would've expected to find pizza here since the business has the name "Pizza" in it and there was pizza on the menu.
ME: What do you have?
OWNER: We make Bosnia food.
ME: How about a sandwich?
OWNER: I make you a small Bosnian sausage sandwich, 5 dollars.
ME: I'll have that!
The Owner goes back to the kitchen to grill the sausages and bread, which takes about 7 minutes to be ready. I leave 5 dollars and grab the food!
ME: Thank you very much!
I hurry out because I see the City Parking Robot was outside checking vehicles and I had less than one minute left on my parking slip and I just made it out to my ride in time! Â My car was reeking of onions by the time I got back to the office. The Small Bosnian Sausage Sandwich was pretty good which had small chewy & spicy & salty link sausages (similar to brown & serve) on soft grilled flatbread with sides of mayo & raw onions. I'll keep the Maccao in mind when my group goes out drinking. Bottled beers are $3 here and would go well with Bosnian food.
