We stopped here for breakfast today. Â The service was excellent; the food was good.
My husband and I both had the French toast which I understand to be made from their homemade French bread. Â The French toast was good, and there was a ton of it. Â My son had the short stack of pancakes which was enormous. Â He couldn't even finish one pancake. Â I'm not sure, but I think the pancakes may have been made from a mix, though.
We did purchase a few items from their bakery display, but we haven't tried them yet, so I can't honestly review those items.
My husband and I stopped here for breakfast, on our way to Waimea Canyon. Â The place is small, but cozy. Â The morning before, we had gone to Tip Top Cafe near the airport, which had a lot less charm and more hustle and bustle (not something I want in a breakfast diner), so we were relieved that Grinds Cafe turned out to be such a pleasant surprise.
The waitress greeted us when we walked in and told us we could take the open table by the window. Â All other tables were filled. Â The breakfast was very good and filling, but not in a greasy way. Â Plus, this place got extra points for having my exact omelet already on their menu - bacon, spinach, mushrooms and swiss cheese! Â My husband was happy with his omelet too, although I cannot remember what it was.
Also making it better, was the fact that it is so reasonable priced. After breakfast, we contemplated getting some baked goods for later in the day, but had to decide against it since we had a long day of exploring ahead of us and needed to get on the road.
*****3.5 STARS*****
Grinds Cafe was a lot better than I had expected it to be.
==Service==
They only had one waitress, but she did a great job!!! She explained the the chili burger was pretty popular and that the chili was made by hand! Impressive!
==Food==
Country potatoes: This is basically their fries since they don't have a fryer. The potatoes have that nice char on it and tastes perfect with some Tabasco and ketchup. Try it! 3/5
Open face chili burger: Delicious and humongous! A patty topped with chili, cheese and onions. I thought the chili was pretty good. I had to put on a little Tabasco since I love having some heat on my food! 3.5/5
Philly cheese steak: Your basic Philly that you get back on the mainland. I must say it was pretty good though. 3.5/5
If I'm ever back in the area, I would definitely come back for some lunch and get another burger!
