Kauai Island Brewery & Grill

one of the first things we did after arriving to Kauai for our honeymoon was do a Yelp search for breweries...this is the only one on the island!!  So of course, we checked it out (along with the rest of Port Allan) one afternoon to see what it was all about.

great joint, wide open space and a view of the actual brewery, this place has it all...food, beer, merch, and the scenary of the island, along with great service to boot!  then why does this place pull 3 stars?  as much potential as this place has, after sampling the majority of their brews, the beer kinda sucks.  hard.  im sorry guys...and then I met a local who said "that place sucks" too.  0 for 2 guys, what's the deal!?

they had TWO good beers on tap, both were their lightest beers available I recall.  sadly that's where the memorable beer ended in a good way.  the bad memorable beer was bad, way disappointing.  I was stoked to try their brown ale...what I failed to read was it was a SMOKY brown ale, so when I went for it all enthused, I could barely choke it down.  it was horrible.  the porter was lackluster...they had a taro special beer, it was OK.  i'm used to hoppier IPA's and this one was just another average IPA.

we did not try any food, but the menu boasted some awesome sounding stuff.  hard as I tried to persuade the husband, he couldn't be deviated.  regardless, the server guy we had was excellent, bravo.  but overall this place had such potential and left us disappointed.

Restaurant/Brewry is located within the warehouse. So, during the hot humid days, the place can get hot.

Wife and I really liked the beer and its variety...only wished it could be much colder. Food is typical bar fare which was OK, but nothing great. Service was friendly...

My recommendations, is after a day of touring the West side of Kauai, stop by and pick-up a Growler of beer to enjoy at your hotel room or home...pick-up food or pupu's along the way on your own.

The two stars is for the service. My husband and I decided to eat lunch here since it is across the street from the harbor and we spent the morning diving... Needless to say we were starving. I noticed the service was rated poorly by other yelp reviewers, however, our server/ bartender was good. The food was average nothing spectacular and I can't comment on the beer since my hubby and I don't drink beer. The flies were the worst!!!! If my hubby and I weren't so hungry we would have never eaten there. We sat at the bar and watched the flies land on the straws, napkins, glasses, you name it they were takin up residency..... Completely disgusting. I would not eat here again I would go to the McDonalds up the street before sharing my meal with flies again....
