I could talk about the Grotto all day long. I have never been disappointed by a meal here. One of my favorite things about The Grotto is how many different components they offer to the meals while still remaining so simple. Even the menu is easy to read and simple. You will never question what something is or what it does or does not have. The menu even has a key so you can tell if it is vegan or can be made vegan, gluten free, etc. They have amazing pizzas and even offer a vegan cheese! I've had every option on the menu that can be made vegan and/or is vegan and let me tell you. It is ALL good. They have fresh ingredients and you never wait long for your meal. The only thing I would say is a con for The Grotto is there location. They are tucked away were most people would never know they are there. Although I hear they have a move in the works. Excited to see the new place when I visit Springfield next!

This is such a great no fuss restaurant with delicious food. Simply put, no frills, just right.
The menu has lots of options and a great vegetarian variety.
Personally, I'm obsessed with the veggie sandwhich with pizza dough adn sweet potato fries.
One downside, it can get very busy so even though you already have your food, there are no tables available.

The Grotto is amazing! Finding a wonderful restaurant with great food and fresh ingredients and vegetables with VEGETARIAN OPTIONS in Springfield is a revelation!

I ordered the steak and gorgonzola salad, and when the girl working the counter asked how I'd like it cooked, I swear I heard angels sing. Needless to say it was fantastic. If you're a fan of things like that I totally recommend it.

From what I saw of what other people ordered everything else looks just as good. The Grotto will be a go-to restaurant for me from now on.

Ooooh Springfield!!!  You have a great restaurant on your hands!  Saw the Grotto on Yelp and was nearby and looking for "someplace we haven't been before".  You know, it's late, you're really hungry but you aren't interested in the "usual" places.  The Grotto is perfect.  Had the Bleu Cheese Chips and they were a delightful surprise.  My wife had the Pineapple/Chicken/Teriyaki sandwich and I had the house pizza.  Both spot on.  We took forever to decide on the menu and will be back to make our way through the other items.  Thanks Grotto staff for your friendly Springfield attitude and awesome service.  See you again soon!!!

One of the best all-around places in Springfield.  The menu has genuine variety to please anyone from a ravenous carnivore to a vegetarian.  If you don't mind being a little decadent, have the blue cheese chips, which are one of the finest appetizers I've had in town.  Everything I've had here has been at least solid, and many things excellent.

Service has always been friendly.  There can be a bit of a logjam around the soda fountain/pickup window.  Otherwise no complaints.

We were passing through Springfield with our kids and grandkids looking for a place for lunch. We found The Grotto through an online service and had a fantastic meal.  Our ages ranged from 1-61 years and we all found something we liked on the menu.  I mention this because when I looked on The Grotto's website it identified itself as an "adult" choice.  Actually our grandchildren loved their kids' menu. The restaurant is very clean and fresh-looking.

We started with the Bleu Cheese chips and quickly went back for a second order for our group to share.  The grandkids ate from the kids menu and had pizzas and chicken fingers.  Very good value that included refillable drinks.  The adults had a little of everything: Santa Monica pizza (fabulous), burgers (lots of different and trendy combinations), Mahi mahi sandwich (great tartar souce), soups, and salads (the side salads were a little overdressed).  If we could return, I would get one of the large salads.  They looked delicious.

The food is reasonably priced, fast, casual, and cooked to order.  Order at the counter and pick up the food when ready, but everything is served on real plates and help carrying was offered. The staff was very friendly and cleared plates in a timely manner.

Now I am looking for an excuse to return to Springfield just to eat at The Grotto.

In a town with few vegan options this place makes me smile.

They actually have a separate vegan menu.  I love them.

The only reason I deduct a star is because the last three times we have gotten pizza here it's been a bit soggy.  It could be because of all the veggies. I am not sure.

We haven't called and said anything as my husband just pops it in the oven for a bit longer.  After a drive across town it could stand to be heated anyway!

Wow! Great food, reasonable prices! Just about everything on the menu has a Gluten free option if you're into that, but no need to jump into that! We had pizzas and salads and they were all wonderful! Can't wait to come back!

P.S. Onion Rings.... Get em! They're awesome! :)

I am really happy that I took my family to eat here!   Very impressed with this restaurant.

Started off with the Blue Cheese chips which were very tasty.

My oldest son & I split a large Hamburger pizza & it was really, really good.  My wife had a Avocado, Bacon, Cheese & Chicken sandwich & she said it was amazing.   I've never noticed this establishment before because it is hidden.   Just off of Kimbrough & Battlefield.

Seriously if your tired of going to the same places you need to try this out!

The last two times I have visited this place I have been disappointed with the menu changes and the overall quality. They have seemed to remove all of my favorite menu items and replace them with boring chicken sandwiches or dishes. I was so unsatisfied the last time I went that we haven't been back.

Wow, I was really impressed by The Grotto!

They have a very good selection of pizzas, salads, grill items and some wonderful healthier selections.

I've never noticed The Grotto, it's in a bit of an odd location on the side of a strip mall.  I actually found it on Yelp when some friends wanted to meet for dinner and I was looking for something with healthier options.  Based on the positive reviews and their menu we decided this was the spot.

Between us we tried the teriyaki chicken sandwich, the chickpea burger, and one of the pizzas.  Everything got very solid reviews and everyone agreed they would definitely go back.

We were about the 10th person in line (you order up front and then they call your number at a pick-up area to come get your food) and yet our food was done in just a few minutes.  Very quick, and the service was very courteous.

This is definitely a new favorite and we will look forward to returning!

Being vegetarians, this is one of our regular places to eat. The food is almost always worthy of 5+ starts. The thing that really lets this place down is the atmosphere, which is...........well, a bit austere and noisy. And it's starting to look a little shabby. A coat of paint would do wonders.

The blue cheese potato chip appetizer is one of the best things I've ever eaten. The salads are always fresh. The roasted red pepper soup is such a treat, especially when the weather is cold. And the iced tea is very good.

In the words of my once co-worker Laura (much to the delight of her client), "I was wrong!" Forced to go here on one of those occasions when I couldn't say 'no', I ordered hummus and soup and it was awesome. The hummus was kick-your-bum garlicky and dragon breath was omitted from my lungs the remainder of the day. It was so good. Everyone in my party was very pleased with the food. Items were clean, flatware, glassware and tables all clean.

My first visit featured a perfectly round, pre-fab veggie patty masquerading as a falafal that reminded one of cardboard. The owner wrote me  here on yelp and insisted the falafal is homemade and from an authentic recipe. I'm therefore going to put my experience down to: they ran out of garbanzo, bought something at Sam's club and didn't tell the owner lest someone get fired.

Now, I'd still like to see some whole grain buns but this isn't my restaurant.  ;-)

Great food. Everything I've ordered has been good. Burgers, pizza, hummus and some veggie falafel sandwich thing: all great. Order at the counter then sit down and wait for your food. When it's ready you pick it up at the counter. It takes some time to get the food, but it's because they're cooking it fresh. Salads are great.

Biggest con for me is the water from the fountain drink area. It has an unclean aftertaste, and I always notice it. I was with a friend on one visit and he noticed too. Could be the ice I guess. Pretty minor considering everything else. Maybe just order a beer instead. :)

Ate there on a roadtrip with my grandparents and parents. The pizza was delicious, with a great variety of of choices, and just as good, an eclectic yet inexpensive beer selection. We would go back there again in a heartbeat.

The Grotto has consistently produced maybe the best grilled hamburger in town.  Whether it is the basic Grotto burger or their bacon-cheddar Grotto burger, they are truly great.  I could eat it every day- almost.  It is always so good I have never tried anything else when I have gone.  Eat there monthly and it has always- ALWAYS been fantastic!

One of my favorite places for a meal.  FRESH indgredients and great cookies at the counter.  My husband is a vegetarian and this is the only place in town he will order a black bean burger, claiming it is the best one he has ever had.  The owner of this place is very friendly, I have been going since it opened - never disappionted in an order, so many good things here!
If you don't have much time for lunch you may want to call your order in for pick up because they do get busy and it can takes about 45 min to eat lunch here.
Also a great place to celebrate with friends, they serve wine and beer at this cafe!

Although pricey, some really amazing food. I lover the Steak Gorgonzola Salad and, well...pretty much everything I've had off the menu. The staff are always nice. Willing to give advice should you ask. I do wish they would expand a bit, seating at lunchtime can be tough. Go early or late for your best odds.

My husband and I ate at The Grotto for the first time tonight.  I had the portabella sandwich with a salad...omg, it was SO good!  My husband had the salmon burger and that was excellent as well.  We can't wait to go back.  If you're looking for a healthy meal that won't weigh you down, yet has great flavor, you'll want The Grotto.

The Grotto is nestled into an unassuming short stretch of a strip mall. The location itself is a bit off my typical dinning radar and once inside the establishment I usually forget that I am in Springfield... For me, a meal at the Grotto is like being transported to an indie-like eclectic cafe that would normally belong in a more bustling and hip city. The Grotto offers a pretty expansive and undoubtedly unique menu. I dare say that the offerings are actually a tad ahead of their time here as far as Springfield is concerned. Pizzas, Burgers, Salads, and even some nice vegetarian options... The vegetarian selections alone put them leaps and bounds ahead of other SGF eateries.

The pizzas are one of my favorite items on the menu. These pies are california kitchen style pizzas which are on the thin crispy side and dressed with an abundant heap of toppings. This won't be your boring traditional pizza. At The Grotto, pizza attire can include anything from goat cheese, basil, roasted red peppers, hand cut herbs, italian style sausage, and SO much more. I have had the pleasure of the Haight Ashbury, the White Room, and the Pasadena. All of them were a display of freshness, and showcased unique flavor profiles. The Pasadena was probably the most typical and would be a good launch point into the pizzas for the less adventuresome. A word to the wise: If you like your pies on the crisper side, be sure to specify that. My first pizza experience was a tad soft for my tastes, but when I asked for it extra crisp, it came out exactly to my liking.

A burger will also provide a rewarding Grotto dinning experience. The burger topped with smoked bacon housed between a sourdough bun is easily one of the better burgers in town. It is moist, substantial, and totally lust worthy when had at med-rare... I have even tried the chick-pea burger which is a very satisfying and unique vegetarian option. It is served with a side of taziki sauce, which is an excellent complement to the chick-pea concoction.

I still have a ways to go to fully traverse this enticing and unexpected menu, but everything I have experienced thus far has made me want to come back for more. I especially love that this place has a quality spread of craft beers both on draft and in bottles. This selection includes varieties from both Schlafly and Goose Island among others. I should probably mention that the beer supply can be enjoyed everyday but Sunday. I always forget this and show up on a Sunday though, and then feel a little deflated when I see the tap handles covered up by their no booze on Sunday policy.Though, I can usually manage to enjoy my meal even without the craft beer to wash down a unique feast.

I've got one thing to say for this addition: Burger redemption. I went at lunch today and had a very very nice burger. I asked for Med. Rare, got exactly that. It was hot, moist, sexy and delicious-light years from the last burger I got here. My complaint about the buns being too large and dry for the meat has been rectified; in its place-sourdough buns. Everything was as it should be. Good work Grotto. I'm a little sad to see the bottles of unique beer disappear, but understand that they don't move that well. What keeps it from being 5 stars? Not sure, but after having Kuma's burgers in Chicago, I am an even bigger burger bastard. If you want a good burger in this town-in no particular order-Grad School, St. Michael's and the Grotto. Word.

The Grotto is my favorite pizza restaurant in Springfield. If you're in the mood for California-style pizza, you have very few choices in this town, making The Grotto the defacto leader of the pack. Even if there were more competition in this category, I think this place could definitely hold it's own.

There are many pizzas to choose from, or you can create your own (although it can easily get pricey). If you're not in the mood for pizza, however, they also have a variety of sandwiches and burgers, but I can't speak to their quality as I always get one of their trademark pizzas.

The service is very DIY -- fill your own drinks, pick up your own pizza, find your own table, etc. -- but I don't think that detracts from the experience. The restaurant itself is clean, well-lit, and has a laid-back ambiance. Seating is limited, so expect to stand and wait for a table if you go during rushes (lunch and early dinner).
