Guppy's looks, acts, and smells like a typical neighborhood taproom. Â Then your order food. Â The menu is cleverly disguised as bar food but SO MUCH BETTER! Â Their "Poutine" is straight out of Montreal; hand-cut french fries with gravy and cheese curds. Â Order a burger, any burger; they're amazing.
Review Source:Like most twenty-somethings in the Philadelphia area, I have friends who live in Conshohocken and I've inevitably made the rounds of the Conshy bars- Boathouse, the Pub, Guppys. Â But since starting a new job out here, I've had the chance to try out Guppy's for lunch. Â While it was strange to be eating lunch with my boss in the same place that a 22 year old Jill drank cheap beer and got hit on by drunk ex-frat boys was a bit strange, I'm glad I got the chance to check it out for lunch.
A group of 14 (!!!) of us went down to Guppy's for our ritual Friday office lunch. Â The hostess/waitress/bartender looked like she was going to puke when she saw our large group, but luckily there was space for all us (but we had to sit at 4 separate tables).
The first thing I noticed was that they had a very extensive burger list AND all burgers were just $7 for lunch. Â I'm not usually a huge red meat person, but I was craving a big, juicy burger so I knew what I was getting that day. Â I went with the Caprese Burger, which had fresh mozzarella, tomato, arugula, and pesto. Â This burger also came with fries.
My verdict? Â I thought the burger was really delicious. Â The meat could have been seasoned a bit more, but I loved the toppings and am looking forward to trying out some more of those $7 lunch burgers! Â One thing to note: Â the serving sizes were a bit small. Â I didn't mind, because I really didn't need to be in a food coma for the second half of the workday. Â But some of my coworkers were not satisfied with their meals. Â The burger itself is on the smaller side and the portion of fries is a large handful (which I really liked because I LOVE french fries but I don't want an ass the size of Texas).
Service was a little slow, but I blame that on the fact that 14 of us came in at once. Â If you are a party of 2 or 4, you'd be in and out in no time at all.
Guppy's is BY FAR the best place in Conshy if you're looking for good food, nice staff, and a fun night out. It is reasonably priced with healthy menu choices as well as good music. I have no complaints and dont understand some of these reviews. The owner is so friendly and nice and came up right when we got our food to ask us if everything was OK. Definitely go to Guppy's!!
Review Source:This is by far my favorite bar in Conshy. No one comes close. The menu is fantastic, the bartenders are friendly, and the owner is a hands on kind of guy who will do whatever it takes to make your experience epic. I've seen him run food, make drinks etc. His menu features all local meats and produce. Â If you don't like a crowded, loud, fun bar, then check it out on an off peak night like Monday or Tuesday. Anyone who says anything negative on here does not know the business. Here's a few pointers: 1) if you want a drink and it's Thursday,Friday, or Saturday night, tip well and be assertive.
2) if you've ever met robin, then you should be as appalled as I am at some of these reviews. I've known him for several years, and he is a GREAT bar owner, which I don't say too often around these parts. He's also a great person. Would take the shirt off his back to keep you warm type of dude.
3) know wether you are an off peak type or on peak. Muy importante! Â Off peak individuals like a quiet ambience, and prompt service. Â On peak individuals like to be in the middle of big crowds and high energy people.
I hope these pointers help at least one person out there enjoy their guppy's good times experience(s). I have been in and out of the restaurant business for 14 years now, and trust me, I know a good thing when it comes to food & beverage. In the game of baseball, Guppy's is a home run!

Guppy's
Interesting that it was recommended to me by a nurse following a medical test, but I always listen when someone takes the time to tell me about a food experience they really liked.
I took my wife and 16yo son in the front door and almost immediately left. Â This is a bar people, and it certainly didn't look inviting for a sit-down or a conversational dinner. Â
We didn't leave. Â We found a small table in the back that was removed from the Friday evening revelry and volumes that drive me into my shell.
The menu is simple with a few ambitious items that will interest any foodie.
But the greatest thing about the food was that its patronage of local businesses. Â Meats, vegetables and breads that are local and never frozen. Â
My started off with a chowder that was full of vegetables and chicken, and a flavor that was intense if not just a bit salty. Â I was impressed with the soup, but I couldn't finish it for fear of not leaving room for the burger I ordered.
The burger was superb. Â For burger aficionados this was a few steps above 5 guys or any base-line burger you will find in the area. Â It was juicy, thick and full of delicious cheese, onion rings and a tangy lip smacking sauce. Â Guppy's also puts thought into their fries, which were presented nicely and had that flavor and texture you rarely see at any bar. Â
My wife went for the pork chop, which was thick and tender and had a smoky delicious flavor. Â Even nicer is that I think it came from Maple Acres behind the Plymouth Meeting Mall - a place that I often visit for local produce and meat items. Â Even more sublime than the wonderful chop, was the creamy mouth-watering risotto, a dish I would have eaten as a main course!
I will definitely revisit Guppy's on another day and try some of their other items. I think this, along with the Conshohocken Café, will become two of my favorite new haunts in Conshohocken.
:) Enjoy!
Guppy's is typical Conshocken. The crowd typically ranges from 25-40. It gets younger the later at night you get. The bartenders are generally friendly, but they have trouble handling when it gets packed. The layout is like a shoe horn, so moving around can be tight.
They try to separate themselves from other local bars with an atypical food menu. There are healthy fish and salad choices, poutine fries, bison burgers, etc. The problem is that none of it stands out, so it just averagely different. The atmosphere is a little loud when crowded but fun. I alway enjoy it.
the worse male bartender on jan 11th night. he was very disrespectful.
Tonights experience was worse than what i experienced on 9 11. It is not funny but it is true and not a joke.
20% tip is not good enough as a tip to him, and he is not friendly at all.
He stopped serving people who did not tip him about 120% of the bill.
I also saw him labeling people... I was disgusted by how he labeled people and treated people after labeling them.
if i had to describe or define the word "discrimination", i would use this place as an example.
No DJ on thursday night. They have nothing as their thursday night specials.
I refuse to go back until the male bartender is fired. i am willing to boycott this place and this is how strong i feel bad this place
He was refusing to serve anyone who interacted with. Even strangers that i was having small talks with. I felt really bad for those who were effected by me and the male bartender.
This is one of those night you want to forget.
i wish i could give zero stars if i could, because this is not the first time and many other people experienced something they shouldve not experienced.
I prefer friendly bartenders than good looking bartenders.
If I could give this place zero stars I would. Â I was there last night with my husband, and the service was the worst of any place I have been to in a while! Â They were busy, but had 3 bartenders working, and we sat there for quite a while with empty glasses or no glasses at all in front of us. Â The chef they have there is supposed to be very good, but the food was simply awful. Â The veggie quesadilla was almost all cheese, very little veggies, and the cheesesteak rolls were greasy and tasteless. Â I usually give almost every place a second chance, but this was so bad that I won't be doing that.
I'm editing this review to say that obviously I never have posted a review. This place was so bad that I felt compelled to post a negative experience I had here. Â Maybe it's not like this all the time, but it was really bad last night.
I wanted to get drunk, dance my butt off and have great memories to go back home with. Guppy's served me a few Conshy Crushes (vodka, energy drink with a citrus flavor) and that was when I started my fun. It's tiny inside, the dj area barely fits 25 people but maybe that's why I made some fast friends with strangers---people are friendly and the service is fast. My friends live nearby, love it here and I understand why---simple and easy-going.
Review Source:Going into this place for an after work event, immediately when I looked at it I thought this was the type of place that would get 3 stars from me right off the bat. It's small, the entertainment is as basic as it gets, and the beer selection is moderate at best. It just didn't strike me as anything special.
Since I was hungry, I thought that they would have to really wow me on the food to get that 4th star.
Then a funny thing happened. I'll be damned but they pulled it off.
They have a simple menu with a few interesting choices like bison burgers. I went for their wings, and a chicken quesadilla which was a Wednesday night special for 5 bucks.
Although the quesadilla wasn't overly seasoned something about it grabbed me. It just tasted well made and fresh to me. I devoured it. The wing sauce had a pretty complex list of ingredients on the menu that I now can't remember, but it was sweet and tangy with just a hint of heat. They pleased at least two people in my party. Another person with us devoured a burger and fries and declared thumbs up.
It's a basic and simple place. But in the local area it holds its own on food quality. Stamp of approval given!
Guppy's is a cool little place close to my apartment. Â It is a great place to catch a game, and it has a great local feel to it. Â I have not tried the new menu yet, but I have heard good things, and I am looking forward to it. Â It does get pretty packed sometimes, which isn't always the best. Â Still, it is a college-feel type place (think Manayunk) in a town that is a little older, which is fun under the right circumstances/with the right friends and level of lubrication.
Review Source:I just tried the new menu at Guppy's and it was awesome! They have a new chef from a very well known Philly establishment that has completely revamped the menu to feature all fresh organic items. Nothing pre-packaged or frozen! Personally I really go for all that farm-to-table stuff...you really can tell the difference in the quality of the produce and proteins. That doesn't mean they have strayed away from the style of food that you would expect from a business that is indeed one of the best places around to go get a drink with co-workers for happy hour or meet some singles on the dance floor on a Friday or a Saturday night. The only difference is now that food is really really fresh and really really good. It's clear that the owner is trying to make this a spot that brings people to Conshy. If you're a burger fan I would recommend the Wowee burger. It has this bacon on it that is unlike anything I've ever had. There is also a cheese and gravy french fry dish called the poutine that you have to try with the new hand-cut french fries (like I said, nothing frozen or packaged) so they are some of the best around. Â I think this new menu is going to add a whole new dimension to this spot that is already a local favorite.
Review Source:Run of the mill bar in Conshy. When I was there it was overly crowded, which seems to be the norm there. Personally I don't see what the lore is but some people just love this place. I found myself waiting and waiting and waiting to get a drink from the bar. Thats not really my style since I can just go to the GAP and get drinks right away and not feel like a sardine.
Bottom line; Seems to have its own "cult" following that I just dont get. If you like crowds and slow service, give it a whirl.
Some friends and I went to Guppy's last night for a good ol' holiday weekend bar blitz. The place was packed, but we found a spot in the back near our buddy DJ Dan, who was on fire all night. Killer tunes coming from that guy.
The service was quick and the bartenders were friendly. The only reason they lose a star is for their disappointing beer selection. I'd be back more frequently if I knew I could drink some good, flavorful, maybe even locally made beer. I spent all night begrudgingly drinking Magic Hat #9 last night and I don't want to do that again for a while.
Nice space and decent enough neighborhood bar. The food I got...the Kathy Romano wrap....was terrible. I had a big chunk of chicken skin in the middle of it and had to ask for more ranch dressing that tookTEN MINUTES to get from the bartender. That was after I asked for a second beer from a different bartender but she threw up her hands and said, "I'm done" and wouldn't take my order. At 8pm at night? Weird. My husband's burger looked great and the fries were good but I was seriously disappointed by the food. Funny enough, the lollygagging bartender had a shirt on that said, "the food doesn't SUCK". How wrong that was!
Review Source:Imagine your favorite nice intimate dive bar. Now overcrowd that bar with WASTED 21-25 year-olds. Then turn the music up to 11 and turn off the air conditioning. Lastly, supply everyone with cheap beers and get them on the dance floor. That's Guppies Good Times. Knowing that, you'll either love it or hate it. For me, it's one of my favorite places in Conshy.
Review Source:Someone told me that I should just update my previous review with this posting, so have at it;
I got a VERY angry and irrate message from "Dan.W" from Conshy. No reviews and no friends but alot of hate stemming from my review of http://www.yelp.com/bi.... Not sure exactly which part of the staff sent me such a profanity laced message but now I can become part of the select few that have endured the wrath of a business owner.
I know I said at the end of my review I would be happy to speak with anyone about what I had said but this wasn't even a call to decency on my part. I haven't heard(read) more 'N-words' since the last time I heard Waka Flaka Flame during my time in Atlanta. I would go the route of placing the entire message up here but it would most definately be taken down in a quick second. I will howerever leave you with, which I have to admit I laughed at, the last line..." I look forward to hearing from you in the future and sincerely hope you don't fall into a pile of burning dog shit and choke on it."
I recently moved out of the Conshohocken area, but I make as many excuses as possible to come back and visit so I can stop in to Guppy's. Â I still consider Guppy's my home bar even though I now live over an hour away. Â Guppy's has a great staff and a collection of fun regulars. Â I know I can count on stopping by at any given time and running into people I know. Â Guppy's has a great selection of beers on tap and some really great food. Â The happy hour prices are very reasonable and I highly recommend the breakfast on the weekends.
Guppy's is a must visit spot when you are in Conshy!
I consider myself, as im sure 99% of people on yelp THINK they are, a connoisseur of bar food. Only bar food. So, with that said, I was in Guppys one night because my friends live in Conshi and they live at this bar. I've been here a million times, but never got the food. Anywhere with 2$ High Life Bottles all day and Golden Tee is good in my book.
So I got a Burger because i was hammered and hungry and maybe a little somethin else, just expecting a frozen patty on a bun. What I got, was a VERY well seasoned, juicy, melt in your mouth burger on a good bun that i destroyed in less that 3 minutes. A nice hidden little gem in the heart of conshi.
One of my local favorites. Wide variety of micros on tap and some great food selections. The menus are a little hard to read, but they're printed on recycled paper grocery bags. The bar frequently supports local charities and other fundraising events. Ask for Guppy next time your in and he'll fill ya in...
Review Source:Why did you change your menu?? Â Food is normally good but I've had a few not great experiences. Â Sometimes it's a toss up, but generally good. Â
And why is your live music SO LOUD?? Â I like clubs, but at a local bar I want to be able to at least hear someone if they're yelling in my ear. Â Maybe put your band in the back room??
Quite possibly the best bar in Conshohocken. Â But its truly hit or miss. Â Some nights this place is packed to the gills while other nights you can have the place to yourself.
Friendly bartenders serve up local specialty drinks like "Conshy crush" and always have a decent selection of beers on draft. Â Prices are reasonable and I hear they serve some pretty good food.
avoid ! tried on tues nite based on reviews and web site . what a disappointment ! many things on menu not available ( no soup, many apps and entres/sandwichs) - bartender said they were in process of updating menu (stock answer when place changing hands IMHO) .
drink ok if u want to pay $8.00 for a martini on a tues. night in a hole in the wall bar ( use the term losely) . don't be fooled by the web site !!!
place is cool for a drink or a night out with town. Â since the grande has opened business has really picked up there and the crowd is a cool young "non-hooligan spamps" crowd. Â If u want to have a fun night with cool music good bar service and a mid 20's to mid 30's crowd looking for a good time this is ur place. Â have never eaten there so cant review that but give it a try for some late night drinks instead of being stuck at the pub or spamps
Review Source:You're typical college bar. For whatever reason they keep hours only on the weekend(including Thursday and excluding Sunday). Â They also have your grandfather's beer selection (with the exception of 1 Red Hook and 1 Sierra Nevada). Â The bar was kinda what I expected. Â If I was 18, I might think it was cool. Â Otherwise, the only reason to go to this bar is to get belligerently hammered b/c they don't offer much else in way of selection or quality.
Review Source:Atmosphere is honestly a lot nicer than I expected, they've done a good job fixing the place up. But I was there on a Saturday night and asked for a glass of white wine (probably my first mistake) and the bartender offers me white zinfandel. Strike one. Then I ask for a Hoegaarden, one of their featured beers and they're out of it. Strike two. Blue Moon? Nope. Strike three. Miller Lite it is.....
Sorry, but on a Saturday night, make sure your bar is stocked.
Guppy's was the first stop in a friend's birthday bar crawl this past Saturday. We invaded promptly as they opened (5 PM). This modestly-sized, informal corner spot has cushy seating, appealing decor, and a fun selection of beer.
This place has an awesome name - how can you beat "Guppy's Good Times" - and our bartender (John) was just as awesome. He made us tasty Duck Farts [shots] and even comped one for our friend's birthday.
Recommended for a guppy good time. (It's also a million times better than the Great American Pub, for those of you who've been.)
I've been to Guppy's a few times with some people from my old job and it is pretty good stuff. On Thursdays, during happy hour, they have twenty-five cent Buffalo wings. And they are delicious too! Along with those wings, you could grab a cup of beer for two dollars.
Also, they have poker games occasionally, free to all with cash prizes. The dcor is nice and the atmosphere is mostly a young crowd. Stop by if you are in the area!
