We stopped in here after the other cafe we were planning on grabbing some food in wasn't opening for another half hour.
Our server was extremely friendly, fantastic service.
Unfortunately, my basic breakfast was not very good. There was a small toast debacle; and my entire meal was centered around it. Maybe I'm strange in that it's hard for me to eat over easy eggs without some sort of toast as it's vessel into my mouth. I kind of half ate the meal and half just decided to give up, as I am not the type of person to send something back twice. I find that embarrassing.
My boyfriend's meal was amazing, however. And thus I know their food is generally very good. The croque madame was superb. His mint lemonade was a perfect drink to wash it all down with.
While my food was not to my liking, I'm sure if I returned here and got one of the many other things on the menu, I'd love it. It's probably my fault for ordering something boring off of such a vast, delicious looking menu.
Stopped in based on reviews here and they were right--what a delightful spot! We're vegetarian + vegan and they didn't blink about accommodating us. We have two young children, the youngest has significant Special Needs, and again, the gals who work here made us feel totally welcome and wanted. The rest of the diners were all old white people, so we kinda were different but not so you'd notice it by the way we were treated by the staff. We had breakfast, although the entire menu is available the whole time they're open, and everything was delicious. I had a sausage bowl, minus the sausage, and it was green chile spicy (and the green chile sauce is veg)! The children had and fell in love with the Desert Pear Lemonade, which was outstanding. One of my children and I shared the Gutiz Hot Chocolate and oh my god was it wonderful. It's a funky space, well north of the wee "downtown" hub, but you can't miss its colorful exterior. Totally recommend.
Review Source:Loved this place! We had a super nice server who took great care of us and our food was superb. On her recommendation I ordered the crepe - it was filled with brie, ham and mushrooms and had an amazing sauce. Every bite was heaven. My bf loved his steak sandwich too. We'll visit again if we ever come back to Taos!
Review Source:We stopped here for breakfast the first day we were in Taos. It is a small little cafe the wait staff was really friendly and helpful.
I had the brie omelet and hot chocolate it was awesome! I would also recommend the bowl scramble thing they have my sister got this and it was delicious!
Good food, good service. They were out of the eggs Benedict AND chocolate croissants, which was disappointing. They run out of items on the menu, so get there earlier in the day if your heart is set on something specific. I got the parisian crepe, which was delicious. My husband had a delicious omelette.
The Mexican hot chocolate was like a punch in the face- very good, but spicy!!
The food was great. The parisian crepe and mexican hot chocolate were dee-lish. There were only a few tables occupied and the service was extremely slow. The restaurant only had 1 restroom and it was not kept up (no paper towels and very messy). Overall, great food worthy of 3 stars. The other 2 stars lacking from this review are for the service and messy restroom.
Review Source:Amazing experience! Â We stopped in for breakfast and were delighted by the outstanding service from the moment we arrived. Â The waiter was very friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely personable. Â
The food was DIVINE!!!! Â I wasn't sure what to expect after reading the sign "Latin French Fusion" but trusted other Yelp reviews. Â Good thing because the rice/bean/egg combo I had was out of this world.
Highly recommend to anyone in the Taos area - one of our new favorites!
The kind of place locals cherish. Creative, attentive, well conceived and executed. For my boy, a home made baguette grilled with bechamel and brie topped with granola accompanied with shaved granny smith apples and berry pure. Yum, right?! The coffee a 10 and the patio in the sun a 10 as well. Next time in Taos, I will be looking forward to sampling more of this Latin-French creation.
Review Source:I love this place! The server was friendly, the Taoseno, a bean, veggie and egg concoction sure to warm both your heart and your tummy, was excellent, and the hubby's ham, eggs, and home fried potatoes made him a happy camper. The little salad on the side confounded him at first, since it isn't a breakfast food to him, but he ate it happily.
The baked goods looked tempting but alas, we didn't buy anything. A reviewer wrote that the coffee wasn't too great, but I found it strong, well roasted, and highly drinkable.
First off, they had the best Mexican Hot Chocolate I've ever had - and growing up in FL, and now living in West TX - that's an educated statement!
The food was not only delicious, but the presentation was beautiful. Portions were perfect, not too large or small, and good for the price and given the wealth of Taos. It's a popular spot, and we walked in about 9am on Saturday, just before it got packed. Excellent service, and a laid back environment. We would certainly return.
Yummm. Gutiz is like a big, warm hug. The restaurant is deliciously, charmingly cozy. The earth-toned walls and tucked away tables make it feel more like a breakfast nook than an establishment. Everything is perfectly cooked in a way you could only expect from your mom&dad's kitchen. Things that restaurants normally mess up (unhappy scrambled eggs, dry chicken) face no fault. The Scottish sausage (whatever that may be) is spicy and gourmet, and delicious with a bite of creamy, chipotle-covered scrambled eggs. The velvety poached egg, atop a juicy forkful of peppery chicken saltado makes for a sloppy mouthful and complacent tummy.
There is prickly pear lemonade- fresh and not too sweet, tinted with the flushed pink swirl of chewy pulp. There are spiced home fries, crisp and mealy, and organic coffee, freshly ground, dark and bottomless.
There is what my friend describes as "the Immaculate French Toast" (and immaculate it is) -- Â a battered & bruleed sweet bread, with the caramelized fragrance of orange, cinnamon and mint. It's topped off with sweet fruit & sweeter, golden maple syrup.
Though the bill is not as light as the french toast, it won't wipe the fuzzy smile off your face. If you wake up to find that your kitchen is too intimate and not clean enough for breakfast, here is your saving grace. The kitchen's warmth and the dishes' easy comfort will serve you well.
Bottom Line: Latin-French fusion colors my day with happiness :)
This is my third attempt to eat here.  One should note that they are not open mondays nor after 3 pm  I walked in and the place was packed at 1pm  by 1:40 I was the only one here  I sat down  scanned for wifi but discovered that this place doesn't have WiFi. That's a minus 1 in my book. The coffee is nothing to write home about.
I reviewed the menu and as always I asked the server what their best recommendation would be for a meal. I planned the sandwich with my server and told her when I order I'll ask for "the Usual". This was a bit of a prank on my lunch companion. Like, I'm a regular even though this is my first visit. So I ordered the Ham and Brie sandwich.
It was ok but again nothing to write home about. Over all the staff were great and this maybe a better place to go for breakfast. Â Maybe next time.
I had the most awesome breakfast here yesterday!
This cafe/bakery shop specializes in a fusion of French and Southwest cuisine meaning omelets with Green Poblano Chillies served with toasted baguettes and salad.
In typical Taos style, place is painted in vivid colors and has that Southwest abode look and feel. Service was friendly and place was super clean. I had the basic breakfast of eggs and meat and toast, but it came with salad and the best home-fries I've had in ages.
I couldn't help but notice their tantalizing cakes and pastries on display beside the cash and also ordered a Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese icing to go. It was excellent. Â I 'm in Taos for another few days and plan on coming back here again before I leave, that's for sure!
Dynamite spot! Â My wife and I had the pleasure of grabbing lunch here while in town and I'll definitely be going back on my next visit. Â I noticed the coffee was really really good and upon inquiring learned its roasted locally and was originally obtained through old school bartering -- great minds think alike (great coffee/great food). Â The highlight was most certainly the Paella...holy smokes. Â If you are at all a foodie and bask in the delight of things done well-- try it. Â I could best describe the experience as one in which the flavor reinvented itself over and over. Â I didn't grab the owner's name but he was really cool and could be over heard telling his chef that things were looking great as they came out-- I loved that! Â
Gutiz is the real deal.
The triple latte and fresh-warm croissant with orange marmalade made my weekend. Even if the croissant was a little over-proofed, the latte was thick, rich, and hot. It almost overflowed from the cup, and was very welcome site in the area. In fact, i had a hard time finding a good Latte in Taos (pueblo area), but this helped me stop looking. This Latin-French inspired (fusion?) restaurant offers breakfast, tapas, and plain old entrees.
As far as breakfast we had the Taoseno and the Eggs Benedict. Let me start off saying that the Taoseno was very good, and packed with rice, beans, garbanzos, scrambled eggs, and red sauce. Served with a warm tortilla these flavors melted together wonderfully. The tender beans with the sweet and smokey red sauce melded well, and the tortilla cut the richness of it all. It all came nearly simmering in a clay pot; a very welcome site on a cold morning.
The benedict eggs would have just been pedestrian benedict eggs had they not been served in a bowl over crispy-tender potatos. The garlic - bechamel was a perfect complement and change from the traditional hollandaise sauce. It brought out the flavor of each ingredient, amplifying their flavor instead of overpowering them; and mixed with the perfect yolk running over bread and potatos and you've got a delicious morning! Definitely recommend this place and these dishes.
